I upgraded my system and decided that I should upgrade my cables in the process. Besides, I also wanted to use the HDMI connector and avoid a possible signal degradation issue when using an adapter.

This cable has a very well-built feel to it, nice feeling materials. It connects well with the extended screw grips in the DVI side, and the HDMI side plugs in firmly and stays where it's put. I like the matching blue ends to help identify these connectors among the dozens I have due to the several systems behind my desk.

I use this cable to switch between multiple connections on my monitor and it's working great for that purpuse. I can switch to the VGA port to use my KVM and support several systems there, or back to my DVI port and this system. It allows me great flexibility in chosing which device uses the monitor at the time. The length is about right for placing a system on the floor behind a desk and them reaching up to a monitor that's mounted on a arm system like I have. Adapters seem to be the only thing available in stores when you need HDMI to DVI. They jack you on the standard cable and bend you over again for an overpriced adapter. This cable is superior to most adapters because it's Dual Link (which stores don't offer) and provides greater bandwidth which produces a better picture. Where as with a Single Link cable or adapter you will likely get distorted squares or blocks that look horrible. My bet is the stores would rather uneducated consumer buy a new video card instead of a proper cable. To understand more about Single vs Dual link search Wikipedia for "dvi port".

I'm using this adapter cable to go from a dvi connector on my computer graphics card to a plasma tv HDMI input. The picture is amazing campared with the s-video I was using before. Sound is not output with this so you have to add cables for the sound.

I purchased the HDMI to DVI adapter cable to connect my laptop to a second monitor. I was just looking for the cheapest cable that would do the job and found this one.
