Beachtek MCC-2 Adapter/Bracket Combo

Beachtek MCC-2 Adapter/Bracket ComboSo let's go over the pros for this little gadget first.

* Small

* Simple to use

* Light weight

* Durable construction

* Large knobs

* Did I mention it has 3 cold shoe adapters!

Cons...

* No preamps

* No phantom power

* No headphone monitoring

So who would actually WANT this, that's where the cons come in? I purchased this for run in gun style shooting, to use with my Wieldy Steadicam, 2 X Sennheiser G3 Lavaliere mics, and/or my Rode Video Mic Pro (VPC). That said I'm never going to use my Rode NTG-3 with this setup because it's too big for a Steadicam and it needs phantom power with preamps, which this doesn't have any way! So what about headphone monitoring, that's important, right? Hell yeah it's important and it makes me want to send hate mail to Canon like Andy Dufresne did in the Shawshank Redemption, but I digress. Anyway, you would never want to do monitoring from the preamp/audio adapter anyway because it would never be EXACTLY what is being recorder. PLUS, having a set of headphone plugged into a steadicam can affect the way it "steadies", SOOOOO..... That's when I tell you why it's amazing, well it's amazing because it just works with the way DSLR are and will be! Once DSLRs have headphone monitoring out (and it's coming) this becomes a nearly flawless device. I do wish it had preamps so to over compensate for the DSLRs crappy preamps but for now it's a great solution that is as innovative as it is simple.

So in the end, my only real complaint is lack of preamps but that really isn't a complaint with this device it's a complaint about the state of the preamps in DSLRs. If and when DSLRs start having good preamps and headphone monitoring and shoot at 4K, 8K 20K or WHATEVER this will still be fairly relevant. To me this purchase is as safe as spending money on good glass, you only regret it once, the moment your bill comes, after that it fits what it is supposed to do, a tool to help your life be easier.
