So, my husband (a videographer) and I looked at the more expensive cameras (Sony, Canon), but since this was just to be my "fun" camera, we went with something a little cheaper. It has a lot of great features for a casual-user camera nice size screen, easy to use menu and controls, good stability, face recognition, etc. In my living room, with lower light, still not bad quality video. For the camera function, it's a little more touchy. Best photos are going to come by using the tripod that came with it (or another one). Otherwise, the photos tend to blur. And whatever you do, don't use the flash in anything other than the dark if you do, it will totally wash out what you are shooting. It's just too powerful of a flash. Also, we thought that the light could be used on the camera to spotlight things in video mode. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case (unless we just haven't found the right control yet.) But, all in all, if you're looking for a camcorder or camera to shoot home movies and casual photos, it's a great camera for the price, and you'll enjoy the product.
