I've never owned an SLR camera, just basic point-and-shoot digital cameras, so my review is coming from that perspective, rather than someone used to the features available on most SLRs.

First off, the "intelligent auto" is by far superior to any automatic mode I've ever experienced before. I've had a tendency to use "programmable auto" or even "manual" mode on my previous cameras any time I really wanted the color balance, shutter speed, and ISO settings to end up the way I'd want. I probably never have to do that with this camera, other than for low-light, slow-shutter photos (the default for the camera is to up the ISO instead of slowing the shutter beyond a certain point). That's not to say that I don't like playing around with the manual settings anyhow -I do -but I really don't have to in order to get good photos. Many of the other automatic-type features are also great, such as the facial recognition (which works great about 80% of the time -has trouble with faces turned at an angle, though) and the smile-detecting auto-shutter.

The video quality is phenomenal, and I like that there isn't some unnatural limit on the length (I want to say the limit is about half an hour or so for HD quality, but I've never come close to reaching that). This will basically serve as my camcorder, and unless I'm planning to record a play or something, I think it'll be more than sufficient for that purpose.

The only downside I've encountered so far is tied to the lens more than to the camera -I didn't realize how much I'd miss the ability to zoom in and out. There's only so much you can do with cropping, and sometimes getting closer to the target just isn't feasible. So, I'd probably suggest buying the camera with one of the other lenses if you're torn between this one (for compact/portability) and another, more flexible lens. This lens is the smallest, but it's still not really going to be pocket-sized (unless you have massive cargo pockets or something). I'm almost certainly going to get another lens sometime soon, and once I do that I expect I'll be using the other lens a lot more than this one.

Other than that... the battery life improved greatly when I downloaded the firmware update from Sony. Make sure you do that -it's not clearly explained in the product manual, but it's pretty straightforward if you look it up on the Sony product support website.

In sum, I got this because my wife was going to be giving birth to our first child, and I wanted to be able to take good-quality family photos for the next few years. So far, I think I made the right choice.

im not professional, but i know how DSLRs work and how to take some decent photos, i will say for the price you might as well get a DSLR, but i wanted something more portable. This definately works.

it is very small and has the same sized sensor as a regular sony SLR (let alone nikon or canon) not full frame but its large meaning photos turn out great. i got the mount adapter and a portrait lens and wow, the bokeh is wonderful. the pictures are very crisp and clear. Battery life was not too great because you always have to use the LCD screen to take photos, but i wasnt too into view finders anyway. when i want to i might sell this one in a year or 2 to get a sony SLT camera but those have some issues too. for now this is the best small form factor camera around. hands down.

new lenses are coming out in 2011 as well with the emount system.

This is a great little DSLR. With the 16mm F2.8 wide angle lens, it fits in our pocket and acts like the best point and shoot camera ever--it also shoots hi-def video.

This camera really shines when you change the lenses and do some serious shooting. It has all the functionality you want in a DSLR in a small package. Best of all, if you already have a DSLR and are looking for a good back up, or you shoot 35mm and want to use the lenses from your non-digital SLR, you can buy an after market adapter for your lenses that will mount them to the NEX-3 and its big brother the NEX-5. The drawback to this camera is that the Sony lenses can be more expensive than the camera and they don't offer the same performance as other lenses.

I am LOVING the camera for its picture taking skills. Low light pictures turn out great and the colors really pop, the depth of field offered by the large sensor make the picture really come alive.

As a trade off, obviously, zoom lenses are expensive to come by. Lucky with a 14 megapixel sensor cropping has decent results.

I am a handicapped man whose balance is almost nonexistent, and whose hands have a pretty bad tremor, but even I can take wonderful shots with this, and when I loaned the camera to my able-bodied friend the results were truly painterly. The automatic focus features are really easy to use, and the results are very, very nice. The only reason I wouldn't say "stop looking and buy this,"is the flimsy and badly designed flash attachment. This camera's sensor does take great shots even in the twilight, but it's not magic and needs the flash when it's dark. The flash attachment hooks tenuously via pins into some holes on the top of the camera concealed by a lid that feels as if it may break if used much.(As does the lid over the USB port.) The flash attachment falls off at the slightest tap, and often if the camera is merely hanging from my waist. It is just a matter of time before it falls into the sea or somewhere else where it's irrecoverable. I have complained to Sony about this, but stunningly I received no reply. Sadly, I cannot recommend this otherwise nice little camera until Sony fixes the flash. (If one spends the best part of $500 on a camera, one should expect a decent flash.)

(ipdate, Dec. 21, 2011) I have been told the flash has a thumb-screw, and so it does. Small and hard to reach, but it's there. I was prepared to completely re-write this reveiw, without any negative comments, but the thumb-screw had no discernible tightening effects whatsoever. (Maybe mine is just defective.)

I have owned many IR Color Cameras over the last few years. I live in an area of some extreme weather conditions and most cameras have failed within a short persiod of time. When I pulled this camera from the box I knew it was different, it has a solid build and professional weatherproofing. The camera mount is also very heavy duty and easy to work with. The picture is outstanding both day and night. Now I only hope it will stand the test of time and elements. Stay tuned.

I purchased 4 of these cameras last fall from a seller here on Amazon. I installed them and already one has failed. I call Speco to get a return authorization for the 5 year warranty on the camera to find out that the person who I bought them from on Amazon is not an authorized seller of the product and my warranty is not valid. By buying their Product, you are not granted the warranty unless you buy it from an authorized Speco Dealer. No Warranty and a dead camera in under a year. I asked the Speco returns agent if they knew about this happening and he said yes it happens a lot. I said why don't they stop it and his response was this: "we want our cameras to sell and we are not concerned about who sells them..."

But they are very concerned when it comes to using the awesome 5 year warranty.

Lesson from this: Speco does not care about their product, only just selling. Buy another Product or call Speco Warranty Number 1-800-645-5516 and find out if the seller you are about to get a great deal with is an Authorized seller.

CAMERA AND LENSES:

The Camera and lenses (obviously) are the key points in this package; They are brand new, genuine (I've registered them with Canon), and covered by a limited warranty.

The camera (and kit lens) is definitely something I don't regret as it takes great pictures (in my opinion) better than the Rebel Xs AND it takes HD video. These qualities make it a great starter camera for me (before I decide to go pro).

The 75-300mm lens is also a great addition, as it helps you get closer to wildlife and to those "Out of Reach" objects.

THE EQUIPMENT:

The Equipment set is great for a beginner as it includes items that are essential (such as the Extra Battery, SD Card, tripod, UV filters, and case). You'd be buying them elsewhere, but on the flip side...

The case isn't recommended, as it has buckles and not a zipper for the main compartment. It is frustratingly inconvenient to try and get your camera out in a hurry when you have 4 buckles to undo. Buckles also mean that there are open gaps in between each buckle that make you worry that something (like a lens) would fall out.

The tripod is okay if you need one, as it works and that is about it (it does have a level on it, for what that's worth). If you are looking for a great tripod, I'd say go and buy one elsewhere for $100-200; you are just getting your money's worth in this package deal tripod.

The 16GB SD card I received was a Transcend, so a decent name-brand. It's size makes it ideal for video; your still pictures will not fill this up if you are emptying them after a shoot.

The Memory Card wallet is only needed if you have more than 1 SD card. The card reader is useful if your computer doesn't have a built in card reader.

Screen Protector and UV filters are very, very, very advised to have. They protect the camera from yourself (finger smudges, facial oils, etc) and scratches and the actual lens from scratches, finger prints, dust, etc. also...

IN SUMMARY:

If you just want to get started and have a budget, this is for you.

If you have a bigger budget, buy the camera individually and buy some quality equipment using this set as a reference for what you should put on your checklist.

Overall the T-3 is a great camera to begin digital SLR photography with. It is very easy to pick up and shoot with. As you get more familiar with how all the settings affect your photos it makes the transition from auto mode to full manual an easy one. The start up time is fast which helps when you're in a hurry to get a great shot and the auto focus seems pretty quick. I was really impressed with how great all of the pictures turned out after the first day of shooting with it. The only slight downside I found was that it feels a little light and doesn't have much heft to it. While this makes it great to lug around all day it does feel a little unbalanced with a longer lens on it. I bought the full package with case, tri-pod, card, filters and lens cleaning kit. I didn't expect to get top of line accessories but was really un-happy with the quality of the case and lens cleaning kit. They were of very poor quality. My advice would be to get the T-3 with body and lens and skip on the kit with accessories and buy your own.

Has everything needed to start shooting right away. the lens combination provides a wide range for shooting, and the extra battery, UV filters, memory card and case provide what most users will need. The camera is a good starter digital SLR, easy to use, affordable yet sophisticated enough to get some very high quality shots. I like the included tripod: it's stable, with a quick release mount & bubble levels for ease of use, and a built-in handle & case w/strap for easy portability. I'm not as impressed with the case. It's a decent size, but leaves little room for additional accessories. Also, I'm finding that small bits of lint attract themselves from the interior to the lenses, so they need to be checked & blown/brushed clean when swapping lenses. Overall I'm extremely happy with this kit. It replaces an old 35mm SLR & accessories that were stolen and the insurance settlement paid for nearly the entire kit: not bad considering the vast difference between a 25+ year old manual focus film camera and a modern fully automatic digital camera.

There are a number of T3 camera accessory kits available from Cameta Camera. The Canon T3 is a great camera. Tripod is good but not the best. It is light-weight, has multi-segmented legs that allow you to set the camera at variable heights. It comes with a zippered case and shoulder strap. The extra battery is top quality. The camera carry case is fully padded with adjustable panels to customize the internal pockets to your requirements. There is an external, front, zippered pocket as well as another zippered pocket built into the underside of the case cover. Memory card is a class10. There are 2 Vivitar UV filters, one for each Canon lens. Battery charger is compact and light-weight. Both camera lens are Canon original products with full warranty coverage. You register the camera and lens at the Canon website. This camera and accessory kit from Cameta was perfect for me. Delivery was on time. Everything came in a large box with the camera, lens, and each accessory individually packed in the original manufacturer's packaging. Cameta Camera did a follow-up email to ensure I was pleased with their offering. They seem to be genuinely interested in your satisfaction. Great package and a great value.

This is my first "real" camera and its ease of use is great. The quality of the pictures is great, the kit that included the camera with lens, the big lens, two filters, 16GB card, a card reader, card holder, carrying case, camera strap, tri-pod, cleaning kit, spare battery, battery charger and lens protectors was the most complete kit I have seen for the best price. I was at another large discount/warehouse store the other day and saw the same camera and lens, a 4GB card and a cleaning kit for $75 more than this one.

I would recommend this to anyone!

Purchased this cable and installed it for my second bedroom, works great, one small problem I reordered it without ferrite cores as the hole it was going thru was small, they goofed and sent it with cores!!still used it no complaint so far, excellent picture.

I got this cable back in May, but never had a chance to test it. I never had an HDMI display until Christmas. I finally got a chance to test the cable and it doesn't work at all. I have a 50' composite cable that ran along this one and with my roku was able to send out video through both cables at the same time. The composite has no problem at all, but the HDMI flickers on and off. And when it is on you see horizontal lines that ruin the picture. Even if you change your resolution to 720p you still have the problem. These cables are not tested and I guess I was unlucky that I couldn't test it within the return window. Do not buy.

Canon EOS Rebel T3i 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Zoom Lens + 10p

BEFORE YOU START READING: This is a pretty comprehensive review of the T3i and some lenses at the end of the review. Be prepared to read a lot, or just skip to the other reviews that say things like "Great camera, takes pretty pictures of babies!" if that is more your style. I have tried to offer an unbiased and comprehensive review of the T3i.

The T3i / 600D is such an excellent buy. Let me get this out of the way first though, it only has a few small advantages over the T2i, so if you don't need the things I'm about to list, then save some money and buy the T2i. For me though, I absolutely needed the following:

T3i advantages over the T2i

*Flip out LCD screen

*Digital zoom in video mode

*Adjustable Audio levels in video mode

*Built in flash control

*In camera guide (Ok, I didn't need this feature but it is great for beginning DSLR users)

The T2i will still offer the exact same image quality and processing. The only main difference is that the T3i is much better for video as a result of the things listed above. My review will be on the T3i, but if you are only plan on using your Camera for still images, you can save $100 or so with a T2i. I use my camera a lot for video so the T3i was an essential upgrade for me.

Ok, now on to the T3i full review! Excellent image quality and potential movie quality HD video (it's all about the lenses). The camera shoots pretty sharp images with the 18-55mm kit lens. It has amazing sharpness and contrast with the 50mm f/1.8 lens that I bought additionally for $107. (Prime lenses, i.e. non zoom lenses will always offer sharper images and perform better in lower light settings due to a wider aperature.) If you are dissatisfied with pictures from this camera, then get a better lens or learn how to use it better. It is definitely NOT the camera itself. The T3i is capable of world class quality images/video if fitted with the proper lens and in the hands of a good photographer.

The botton layout and overall camera functionality is a 10/10. I have no complaints at all and everything just makes sense with the location and useability. It has dedicated buttons for almost every fruntion and the menues are quick to access and it is very easy to adjust settings. It has good locations for all of the ports and the battery/memory card slots.

The LCD is super bright, detailed and the best in the Canon line at this time. The flip out feature is amazing if you are shooting overhead or have your camera low to the ground. It may help you avoid crawling in the mud for that great shot. It is also nice for self portaits and any other time you won't be directly behind the viewfinder/LCD screen.

The quick burst mode allows me to take 8-9 photos in rapid succession, so it is great for action / sports photography. The 18-55mm kit lens that it comes with is great for non professional photographers and offers amazing image quality compared to my old Canon Powershot S5. Eventually if you want to get into more serious photography, you will want to upgrade the kit lens to something better with a lower aperature rating. (aperature essentially means how much light your lens takes in. This has two benefits, it allows you to shoot in darker settings, and allows you to have a faster shutter speed set.)

The 1080p HD video can be shot at 24fps or 30fps. It also has standard video recording options as well. The camera has a dedicated video mode selection and can be set to manual mode in the menu for a full customization of settings including shutter speed, aperature, ISO, ect. The video this thing shoots is just stunning. A small note though about the T3i and all other DSLRs on shooting video. When using them for video, there is a max video size that SD memory cards will allow you to use. When shooting in 1080p HD video a typical limit to videos are either around 12 minutes or 4GB, whichever comes first. These are the stats for this camera, but all DSLRs have similar numbers. You can extend the time by shooting in standard definition, but it still has a cap. Most videographers shoot in shorter sequences anyways, so this isn't really an issue. It is just something to take into consideration if you want to do interviews or other long scenes. Again, this goes for all DSLR videography though, and not just the T3i.

The build quality is good for what it is; a pro-sumer camera. It doesn't feel cheap by any means. It is a lighterweight DLSR and does not feel as solid as the pro level DSLRs but it costs MUCH less. The T3i still has a solid construction. Though, I would not want to drop it or leave it out in bad weather. I got a Delkin Pro Skin for the T3i, and a battery grip and it feels much more like a pro level camera now and feels better balanced with larger lenses. It is not sealed, dustproof and waterproof like the 7D or the 5D. The 60D has a better build quality and not much more expensive. It is also worth checking out. The 60D is slightly better for stills photography while the T3i is slightly better for shooting videos. You can see a number of reviews and comparisons on youtube.

It has great auto settings, though I CERTAINLY recommend learning how to really use your camera and you can take your photography to a whole new level. Having said that, IF you choose to only use the full auto / creative auto settings, you'll have a jaw dropping quality point and shoot camera. Again, I would recommend learning the settings, but for those of you who want great quality photos for birthdays and family get togethers, the T3i will exceed your expectations and is still very easy to use, thanks to the "In Camera Guide." If you really want to use your camera to the best of it's abilities, spend some time reading through the manual, watching how to videos on youtube and read online articles on improving your photography. There are an incredible amount of resources available online for free. spend some time, do the work and it will definitely pay off in the long term.

The accessories that come with this package are great for beginners too. I'll eventually be upgrading the tri-pod and the camera bag, but they will certainly be in use for a while until I decide to spend the big bucks on nicer gear. The 16gb card is great, the gear bag is decent quality, the screen protectors were a nice touch and the extra battery is an essential item for any photographer.

Overall, the T3i was the perfect camera for my needs. Of course I would love to have a 7D or a 5D, but it is much smarter to spend money on better lenses than to get too hung up on the camera body. Overall, I would recommend the T3i 100%. I am completely satisfied with my purchase, how much I spent, and the value I really recieved from such a great quality camera.

Here is an bonus list of lenses worth buying to build your collection. I will provide a list of lenses that are great for the value, and a list of my want but will probably never be able to afford lenses.

Great lenses for the value (notice I didn't say cheap, but excellent for the value):

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II SLR Zoom The kit lens that comes with this package. (The only reason not to buy this lens if if you are upgrading to a more expensive lens pretty quickly. This is probably THE BEST value lens around, Period. It has good contrast, sharpness, and overall image quality. There is definitely room for improvement, but at the price, this thing is a steal. This lens will suit many peoples needs for a long, long time. For photographers on a budget, this lens is a must have.)

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II $110(BEST lens for the value aside from the 18-55mm kit lens)

Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM Standard & Medium Telephoto $390 (A super great lens for indoor and darker settings. More expensive the than 50mm f/1.8 but if you have the money, this lens is worth the upgrade).

Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM FLD Large Aperture Standard Zoom $670 (MUCH better than the Canon 18-55mm kit lens. Not cheap, but an excellent substitute for the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 and about $440 cheaper than the canon with only slight differences in image / video quality. Some people even prefer the Sigma. This is a great lens with excellent walk around ranges. This will be my always on lens for probably 90% of the time. This or the Canon 17-55 are a must have for video users).

Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM $400 (Great 30mm prime lens at a decent cost.)

Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Medium Telephoto $400 (Great for macro photography and a decent telephoto distance.)

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM $570 (One of the best lenses for micro/macro photography)

Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom $675 (One of the top rated telephoto lenses around and a must for sports photographers.)

A lens that isn't quite as good but definitely deserves some attention:

Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD SP Aspherical (IF) Zoom $460 (A cheaper alternative to the Canon 17-55 and the Sigma 17-50mm. It is still better than the Canon 18-55mm kit lens. It has great image quality but lacks the Image stabilization that the other two offer (which is essential if you want to use your camera as a handheld often). Tamron offers an IS version of this lens, but tests have shown that it isn't quite as sharp and it is slower than the Sigma and Canon and the autofocus isn't as good. Based on the research I've done online, I'd prefer to buy the Sigma for $50 more than the IS (well Tamron calls it VC) version of this lens.) All that said, this is an excellent lens at a good price if you plan on using a tripod most of the time.

Amazing lenses that are expensive list:

Tokina 11-16/2.8 AT-X 116 PRO DX $720 (Best wide angle lens around, in many people's eyes.)

Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Standard Zoom Lens $1600 (One of the best lenses on the market if not THE best. Great image quality, excellent contrast. The only thing this baby is missing is Image Stabilization.)

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM $1075 (Excellent range, Image stabilization, contrast and picture quality. One of the best lenses after the Canon 24-70mm. For some it may be the best, if they need the IS.)

Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM $1100 (Not to be confused with the 18-55mm Canon kit lens. Many people consider this to be THE best lens available for APS-C body cameras, i.e. T2i, T3i, 60D ect. The only downside is that this lens CANNONT be used on full frame cameras. i.e. 5D, 1D.) It is essentially an L quality lens as far as image quality goes. Amazing quality sharpness, contrast, minimal fringing and flaring, and just a fantastic lens. It does lack the L lens quality build though.

Final Note: This is not a comprehensive list, nor am I a professional photographer. I am simply a guy who did a ton of research and wanted to contribute and give people a decent place to get started with camera and lens selection. I certainly encourage each of you to do you own research and find out what suits your needs best. You can certainly find cheaper cameras and lenses out there. I take photography pretty serious and want the best quality images/videos possible for a reasonable price. In most cases, you really do get what you pay for. Thanks for reading.

I received the shipment promptly. The camera is terrific and I'm enjoying it. However, the "Accessory Kit" was seriously lacking the bag was not the one pictured and was no more than a simple foam rubber bag in which you might store a six pack, there was no memory card or "Jumpstart" DVD, and the other items were cheap (among others, a wipe, some Q-tips and tiny unmarked bottle of what I assume is "cleaning solution").

When I wrote to complain about the bag, I received a reply a number of days later that they would send the pictured bag as a "one-time courtesy." A COURTESY? For delivering the item that was advertised? I NEVER received a reply about the two missing items. That was a week ago ... and TODAY I received an e-mail asking for a contact number so that a customer service representative could speak with me. I replied that I would not give them my contact number, I would not be speaking to a representative, and I expected the three items (the replacement bag, missing memory card, and missing DVD) sent immediately. I'm not holding my breath.

My advice ... SKIP this third-party seller and the completely unnecessary "accessory kit" order just the camera from AMAZON.

I would be a fool to say I don't love this camera. However, do yourself a favor and shop around and make sure you know what you are paying for before you click the "buy" button. STAY AWAY FROM ZEEMO DIGITAL:

1. They advertise a NEW CAMERA..... I received a loosely packaged camera and accessories in a brown general box. NOT EVEN A CANON BOX.....

2. The Accessories are great if you are using a small point and shoot camera. for a DSlR... FORGET IT! you will never be able to get the quality shot you want with the tripod they deliver. and you will NEVER be able to carry all your goods with the bag they offer.

3. The Batteries are NOT (at least in my order) CANON batteries. and drain so fast you will barely get 100 pics per charge.

4. The other smaller accessories are not needed for anyone living in the 21st Century. TRUST ME

5. ZeeMo attempted to persuade me from waiving my Freedom of Speech rights by telling me they would send me a better bag and tripod if I deleted my negative add off of AMAZON. Because "a negative ad hurts sales so much". I originally did this then, after the difficulty I was having with the battery I decided, TOUGH! The internet needs to be warned.

I will say that ZeeMo did send me a Tripod and a Camera bag that they thought was better than the first ones they sent. NOT really. neither tripod stands to wind very well and the bags barely have room for the camera and two lenses.

And, they did send me a Canon Battery they say is new. but it wasn't in original packaging (I received it in a small plastic baggie with no packaging at all, for all I know it came from a floor model.

So, shop around and trust me stay away from ZeeMo. (oh, ZeeMo DO NOT CONTACT ME WE. OUR BUSINESS IS COMPLETE!)

Using the camera is fun. I would recommend this camera because it is an excellent camera. I take it most places I go. Pictures are excellent! It is very user friendly and the camera kit pieces are very helpful.

I probably spent a good 6 months researching DSLR cameras before committing to the Canon Rebel T3i. First, I was debating between a Nikon or Canon. After borrowing my friend's Nikon and another friend's Canon and playing around with both for a few months, I decided on getting a Canon and after looking through all my Canon options and price points, I felt like the Rebel T3i was the perfect match for me.

The Canon's lighter than Nikon, which I prefer. I like how the keys/buttons are situated and it feels comfortable on my hands. I also love how the LCD display screen can be moved around. Not only does that make it easier to shoot some difficult shots, I also like to swivel the screen around to face the inside of the camera to protect the screen while I'm not using the camera.

This kit is also great! I've used everything in the kit and it's great that I didn't need to go out and buy things separately.
