I just got this microphone today for my Vixia HF R10 camera. I did a test of it, comparing the recording quality of this microphone with the on-board microphone and must say the difference is quite astonishing. The only reason I see why this is labeled for the models stated is likely just because of the mount used. As long as the camera you plan on using this for has a 3.5 mm plug for an audio input (like on a standard computer) it doesn't matter what camera you have.This is a shotgun (directional) mic as the product's name says, and it does a pretty good at ignoring the sound that comes in from the background too. Making it a perfect choice for anyone who doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a product. The two modes (90 and 120 degrees) allows you to change the range at which sound can be detected by the mic.
Although the mic can be a bit awkward to use as a handheld mic, like the street interviewers on the mainstream media news outlets and those you would see at concerts, it is a perfect choice for someone wanting near professional sound quality, at a low cost. The only downside that the LED indicator only blinks once to let you know that it's on, and according to the product description, flash when the battery is getting low on power.
