To be direct, I love this camera. I am just getting back into photography as a serious hobbiest (the last time was 35mm so much has changed). Others can review with fine detail, I will state my experience as a DSLR newbie.

First I chose Nikon as my product line. this is important for anyone to think about before jumping into a camera like this. Choose which brand of lenses and which camera layout, menus, etc make sense to you. You will own this camera for a very long time. Even if the body eventually is replaced the lenses if cared for will last a lifetime and fit on other Nikon cameras. Like Nikon glass, good

Next, are you professional? see other reviews, if not, are you upgrading or jumping in? Upgraders should consider their starting point and choose accordingly. Jumpers, this is the camera for you. If you can afford more, ok, but if you are not a pro do you need more? I've taken wonderful photos and blown them up to 30x20. Awesome quality, but you have to know what you are doing to really get that awesome shot. Study the craft not just purchase the toy.

All the features a hobbist is going to need. Intuative menus. Serious power in the software. I do make 2 suggestions for companion purchases. Buy a large fast storage card~ continuous shots are so fun, and a good book. I found From Snapshots to Great Shots series on the D5100 to be excellent. The manual isn't horrible, but if you want to see what this baby can really do spend few extra $.

Very good camera, easy to use. In addition has many features you can explore. I recommend for all Amazon's customers.

A very good camera for a family to capture special events, with a very good sized LCD display you can rotate to any angle.

The down side is that it requires learning and geting use to the many functions in the camera

I was a little skeptic when I bought this camera due to the price of this camera, I was not sure that the photo quality will be this good. I already own a Pentax DSLR and wanted a quality point-and-shoot camera to carry around with me without the excess baggage (lenses) of a DSLR. So far the photos I have taken are exceptional in terms of quality and the zoom factor is definitely a winner. Highly recommended this point-and-shoot camera for fun photography.

This camera is so versatileI'm still learning all the functions. I love how I can zoom in so easily and get great shots. I really appreciate how I don't have to carry around three other lenses like with my SLR. Other reviews tell of the bells and whistles and stuff the one drawback for this package was the unusable camera bag. I had to spend a bit more to get a real bag that will last and will hold all that came in the package. All the other components of the package are of good quality and worth the price.

Excellent zoom, much lighter than my old Canon Rebel XT, and a lot more practical without having to carry a bunch of lenses in my bag.

Sure you can weigh the pros and cons of buying this Leica D-Lux 4 Titanium or saving money and getting it's cheaper counterpart. If you have the money...just do it...splurge a little, you won't be disappointed. Filled out the warranty online, which gives me 3 years total. Updated to the newest firmware 1.20 which was very easy using my SDHC card. The average person doesn't know the beauty of this camera, but those who know will instantly praise this beauty. Beautiful pictures and surprisingly really good HD video in 16:9 aspect ratio. There are many settings that are easily accessible with the quick user interface. A large and bright LCD makes taking pictures very easy. Compared pictures with this and my fathers Olympus, this blows it away, the light that this lens brings in is truly amazing. With it's matching case this is CLASS all the way around, you will get compliments from those that know.

Looks Amazing and build quality is perfect. Even in snapshot mode the photos all look very good.

A few minor issues though.

1. You'll have to get a cord for the lens cap. Putting it in your pocket every time becomes a hassle.

2. When shooting video, the camera will constantly adjust the exposure. So if you pan across an area with shade and sun it will go up and down as you pass different areas. This may just be a setting I have not figured out yet though.

Apart from that this camera is perfect. I haven't even used my SLR in months.

Things you need to know:

1. This takes INCREDIBLE pictures. i can take professional quality pictures and have to lug around.... essentially nothing.

2. The learning curve was a little rough but once you get it, everything is perfection.

3. It is beautiful. stunning. it was worth the extra money when I bought this.

mine was stolen from my house during a home invasion. I got it back because in searching craigslist and ebay, etc., when the limited edition popped up on my end of the state, i gave the cops the serial number and had them pick it up. i had had tons of stuff stolen (laptops, jewelry and so on)and it was the one thing i actually had cried over. I was elated to have it be the one item that was ever recovered.

This camera is simply wonderful. The quality of the images captured belies its size and format. Highly recommended. I can shoot fully manual, RAW. The bokeh of the lens is sublime. I have a full Canon SLR setup with all 'L' lenses and a 5D mark II, and as much as I like that, I will often take this one out because of the way the camera draws the images.

DEFENDER 21005 Ultra Resolution Outdoor Security Cameras

I have a SVAT video surveillance system. The cameras that came with the system worked good but it was hard to identify someone unless they were standing on a pre-marked spot with their name in a string around their neck.

I looked on the internet for a better camera that would not put me in the poor house, and I settled on this one.

After it came, I put it on a portable mount and played with it for several days. I must say that I was impressed.

The color is a good as any portable video camera that I have ever owned. The night vision is great. It might not illuminate someone in dark clothing at 100 feet but it does show movement in lighter clothing well beyond 75 feet.

It is now permanently installed watching one of my entry doors. It hasn't caught any suspicious activity as of this writing, but I am sure if it does, we will be able to identify who it is.

I purchased a $700 8-camera system from Defender 2 years ago and installed it myself during new home construction. It has worked fine, but I never thought the 420TVL cameras looked as good in real life as they looked on the Defender website. I just ordered 2 of the 21005 cameras to upgrade to 600TVL. The problem is the new cameras use a totally different connection than the old ones, which is not clear at all here or on the Defender website. Worse, there is no way to contact anyone there for assistance or to see if an adapter is available. I found a telephone number, but it is never answered. When I filled out the online customer service form and submitted it, I received a "page not found" error. I got the same result when I clicked on the "Live Chat" button.

I cannot recommend any company that works so hard to avoid customer contact. I am returning these 2 cameras and when the original system needs replacement I will not consider Defender again.

Amazon is a great company to deal with, so I know there won't be any problem with a return, but Amazon should consider dropping Defender products until they do a much better job with their non-existent customer support.

I purchased this camera for two reasons, Amazon's price was way below the manufactures price and because I wanted a middle of the road unit. I would not consider this a high end unit but it is a LOT better than their bottom of the line units. Works well at night. Well it's just my luck; the camera quit sending a color image after a week of use. S**h happens and I do not want to give this manufacture a bad review because of one camera not working. I have 4 more of the same cameras and they are working fine. Good resolution and night time viewing.

Installed a set in the front yard (the hard part is determining best location) connected to a video server (http://www.amazon.com/IP-Network-Server-Broadcast-without/dp/B000HBVTCA) and running 'motion' on my Linux server and liked the results so much that I bought another set (and another video server) for the back/side yards. The daylight color looks quite good, the nighttime black/white IR is also sharp (for about 25') and then fuzzy but recognizable shapes (cat v human) until about 50'. I liked the idea of no moving parts (i.e., less chance of breakage) so choose the Defender brand. I'm glad I did, they are metal (no plastic) and fill solid, hide the cord and perform well for my needs.

I ordered this camera to replace an older and much smaller bullet camera that doesn't have IR lighting. The Defender camera has excellent video quality and appears to be built to last. Excellent weather resistant design. For my particular application, I had two problems with it. First, it's big, much bigger than my old bullet camera. Second, it only adjusts left/right and up/down. You can't rotate the camera (and the image) independently if you need to mount it upside down. If these two things don't affect you, you will probably like this camera.

I just got this microphone today for my Vixia HF R10 camera. I did a test of it, comparing the recording quality of this microphone with the on-board microphone and must say the difference is quite astonishing. The only reason I see why this is labeled for the models stated is likely just because of the mount used. As long as the camera you plan on using this for has a 3.5 mm plug for an audio input (like on a standard computer) it doesn't matter what camera you have.

This is a shotgun (directional) mic as the product's name says, and it does a pretty good at ignoring the sound that comes in from the background too. Making it a perfect choice for anyone who doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a product. The two modes (90 and 120 degrees) allows you to change the range at which sound can be detected by the mic.

Although the mic can be a bit awkward to use as a handheld mic, like the street interviewers on the mainstream media news outlets and those you would see at concerts, it is a perfect choice for someone wanting near professional sound quality, at a low cost. The only downside that the LED indicator only blinks once to let you know that it's on, and according to the product description, flash when the battery is getting low on power.

There is no top mount on the Canon Vixia HFR300, so although this microphone does attach with the correct jack, in order to mount it on the camera you need another mount.
