I just ordered this camera and got it today. I was a little nervous ordering a camera that was just released and had no reviews, but the fujifilm finepix z20 had such good reviews, that I decided to take a chance on the newer model.

So far everything is perfect. The battery charged quickly and setup was very simple. This camera is so easy to use, which is important to me, since I'm kind of technology-challenged. With most cameras, I have trouble navigating the menu, but this camera is very simple to work. Also, the screen on the back is very large, to make viewing the pictures easy. There is one great feature on the camera that I really like. There is a setting that when activated, will always take two pictures every time you snap a picture. One with a flash and one without, and store both for you to view. This way you never have to worry about your pictures being too dark or too bright. The pictures are crystal clear, and I'm very glad I've purchased this camera.

I can't comment on the software, as I haven't used it yet, but everything else has been great.

Bottom Line: Great value for a quality feeling budget compact camera. Image quality is fine, I see no problems with smaller prints up to ISO 800, this is far better than my previous point and shoot that was half the resolution. My favorite features are the weather sealed buttons (the camera isn't weather sealed, get the Z33wp for that), but the buttons are rubber covered and liquid can't get in around them, and my other favorite feature is the high frame update on the LCD. As long as you set the menu option for high performance, the rear LCD updates very rapidly, any motion is updated instantly. This is much improved over most of the competition, but no reviews I see mention this.

Some people are complaining about the quality of the images, but either they have a bad sample or are just viewing the images at 100% on a computer monitor. Prints are fine. I will comment that the rear LCD is sometimes grainy appearing, but the final images are great. This is because the rear LCD has a high frame update, about 60 hz, and it needs to set the sensitivity very high in low light in order to show you an image at that rate, so the display comes grainy. When you take the picture it is fine.

Overall this is a pretty average performing camera that is inexpensive. It has a semi manual mode for setting your own ISO, EV compensation, but it lacks a few other options. The aperture just uses a couple values, and can't be selected manually. If you can pick this up for about a hundred bucks it is a bargain. If you get up near one hundred fifty there are probably better options available.

Update: I found the condition people must be getting grainy pictures. This camera doesn't have a powerful flash, and in a large room trying to take a picture of a subject maybe 15 or 20 ft away the flash doesn't have the power to illuminate them adequately. If you use this indoors in a dim room, it is fine at close range, but not great for a Christmas program or a picture of a presenter across the room. In these situations you might try disabling the flash.

This camera is perfect, exactly what I wanted. It looks even better in person!! I've used it out on the town, inside with flourescent lighting, and outdoors, and it's definitely 10.1 megapixels of AWESOME. You can read about all its details above (it's red-eye removal, video capabilities, etc).. but here are the items I wasn't sure about when I ordered the camera from Amazon, but was proved wrong:

1) The camera looks expensive, NOT cheap. I was worried about the little stones looking feminine or cheap, but they're very tiny and does NOT make the camera look "girly".

2) The sliding door is a great idea, because it protects the lens, and makes the camera ready to GO once you open it! Normally cameras take 10 seconds to ready to shoot (power.. ok, adjust, click, hold, wait..) Not this camera! You open the door, click the button, and view the picture within 3 seconds. It's so nice! Plus, it's ready to go AFTER taking a picture much more quickly.

3) The sliding door has a nice "click" so don't worry about it opening up in your purse/pocket... really. It's fine.

4) I love the buttons on the back of the camera--they're larger than other cameras, easy to read and press, looks more modern, etc.

So... BUY THIS CAMERA! You'll love it!

I just purchased this product, turns out it did not come with an Owner's Manual or Installation CD. When I first saw it I loved the color (Orange) and small, sleek style. I snapped a few pictures which looked grainy on the LCD screenI quickly turned to the online reviews and found out this is a common complaint of this camera.. HOWEVER, once you download them onto your computer they look amazing. Well worth it for the price!

I love the flip open cover seeing as our last camera got sand in the zoo lens and ended up never working the same. This added protection is great!

One other thing that made this a 4 out of 5 star rating is having to use the USB cable to upload pictures onto the computer, which I do quite frequently. And the fact that it does not take a "normal" battery, so make sure you order an extra and keep the one it comes with charging when not in use.

Overall a wonderful camera for the price and style.

Just received this camera for my teenage granddaughter so I charged up the battery, set the camera to its highest and best settings, installed a 4GB SD card and took some sample pictures and a sample video. The picture taken outdoors was very good, sharp, clear and colorful. The picture taken inside using the flash was more grainy than it should have been as compared to my other cameras of this general P/S type, hence the loss of a star. The video this camera takes is another story, its first rate, clear, colorful, and very smooth with very good sound. Its a good camera, not great, but very small and easy to operate.

The Hdmi part works but the dvi display has green lines running through it to the point that you can't use it.

I teach photography and Photoshop in a variety of venues. In small, mentoring classes I set up 2 monitors instead of a projector to get better viewing. This adapter allows me to use an older DVI monitor with a new HDMI monitor and save a few $$.

The hdmi to dvi works fine, but I could never get a signal through on the hdmi to hdmi part of the splitter. I had a use for the hdmi to dvi part of it but could have just used a hdmi/dvi cable without the boxy splitter.

Star-up is quite fast, the camera is ready to shoot at just 2 seconds.

The lag between shot and shot is slow, u have to wait no less than 3.5 seconds before taking the next shot.

The Nikon S5 is made of metal, the look is really good very stilish and pocketable (super slim).

IMHO a huge limitation on the S5 is the lack of manual controls to set the aperture and the shutter speed. Also the built-in flash is quite weak

Easy to use. The battery life was pretty good I used it for 6 dives and 2 snorkelling trips, as well as some pictures on land, and the battery was still going strong.

For the price, this is a great buy! The underwater settings could use a bit more red, but it did it's job in capturing our dive trip. My one concern is with the battery reader it will go from 3 bars to none in one picture. Sometimes it will tell you the batteries are dead and turn off, but if you turn it back on it's working just fine on full batteries. One time it was flashing low battery and continued to work for another half hour. Other times fully charged batteries would not read at all, so we missed pictures on a few dives due to this. VERY frustrating, always carry an extra set (or 2) of batteries with you when using this camera and never trust the reader to tell you if the batteries are low.

Updated I have since uploaded the photos to my computer. A small complaint, but I normally organize my photos by day. I set up my camera to the correct date and time. When I uploaded the photos, they were all dated 6/1/2012, despite using the camera for a full 2 weeks. The times were completely random as well, so I couldn't use that to figure out which dates I took which pictures. With underwater pictures, it's very hard to tell one day from the next unless I had some land photos in between to use as a reminder.

Having just returned from a 10 day sailing and snorkeling trip in the British Virgin Islands followed by a week of scuba diving in St. Lucia, I must say I am very pleased with the quality of my underwater pictures! This is one great little camera! Unfortunately, the above water pictures (land) are not as clear as I would like. So I don't recommend using if for that. The rechargeable batteries that come with the camera don't seem to last even 20 minutes before you get the low battery warning and the camera goes dead. I recommend the use of Lithium batteries instead. They are the only way to go! One set of those lasted more than a week. I like the wide angle lens for use underwater as it allows you a greater field of vision. Unfortunately mine did acquire some moisture inside which caused it to fog up so I could no longer use it and will need to replace it. The camera comes with a 32 GB memory card but the instructions advise you to not use more than an 8 GB memory card! I enjoyed the simplicity of this camera, it's very easy to use underwater!

Nikon D2Xs Digital SLR Camera

An amazing construction the D2Xs is a paradox in itself. Strong as an ox and yet as delicate as a butterfly this camera is control and power in one rock hard package. Simply the finest Pro camera you can buy without needing a 2nd mortgage. In the words of a Mr F. Bueller "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

Nikon D2Xs 12.4 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera

The Nikon D2Xs is truly the professional (or very serious amateur) photographer's dream machine. My previous and current equipment includes Mamiya 645 Pro TL, Zenza Bonica ETRSII, Canon EOS 850 film (retired), Konica film (retired), Olympus C3030 (point and shoot donated) and various other equipment over the years. I still own and use my Nikon D70s and find it to be a wonderful tool, but the D2Xs is the ulitmate machine at this time, in my opinion.

I read many articles and reviews about professional level digital SLR cameras, and I was a little aprehensive about the D2Xs because I wasn't sure I could justify it. I find this camera is actually easier to use than other equipment I've owned. If you're an amateur stepping up to a pro body, remember there are no pre-programmed (i.e., landscape, portrait, night landscape, etc.) settings like on the D70s or the Canon. That forces you to use the M, P (most automatic settings) or aperture/shutter preferred options. I find it pretty straight forward, since the pre-programmed settings can be a little confusing in their own right.

This camera is big but feels very steady to use. Ergonomics are supreme, and the menus (not used that often since every key setting is selectable with a button) are easy to read in bright sunlight.

This is a very well done product that takes pictures capable of being blown up to poster size without a problem or loss of quality. This is a beautiful piece of gear if you can afford it. I chose it between the Canon Mark's and other options in the 12+MP range because I liked it best of all.

As an enthusiast, i was really impressed with the image & build quality of the D7000. I still own this camera & still love to use it for indoor work, low light performance is still impressive.

The D2XS was a choice for it's speed of handling, although the megapixel count is now ancient, the image quality is truly a beautiful thing & only shooting with it can relay it's images on a personal choice level.

The build quality, function structure, performance, focus speed, battery life, viewfinder are all reason enough to pick up this machine & enjoy photography.

For the used price of around $1000 (with 5K shutter count) i feel lucky to have encountered such a deal.

Between the D2XS & D7000, my investment was minimal to continue taking pictures with some decent gear.

I replaced a Fuji S2 Pro with a Nikon D2Xs in 2006. The D2Xs is in an entirely different league. Mostly, one has a lot of superlatives and a few quibbles to say about the D2Xs. The one drawback to the D2Xs is that as a Nikon professional product, pretty much everything that is an accessory specific to the D2** line is priced professionally, too.

The Nikon D2Xs uses a 12MP Sony imager. The color performance of the imager is neutral and has good color accuracy. If you like eye-popping color, be prepared to do a fair amount of post-processing. The dynamic range is good, being slightly wider than one may be used to from shooting slide film. Even Fine JPEG output results in files that withstand fair amounts of digital editing without horrid artifacts. The custom color balance facility is excellent, and should be used for any situation that does not fit one of the preset color balance options. The automatic white balance works for some mixed lighting conditions, but not others. Checking a test shot is prudent for any critical work.

The D2Xs has reasonable noise characteristics, though outdone by the D3 line. I commonly use up to ISO 800 for shooting action without qualms. If shooting for enlargements over 8x10", though, you will likely want to use lower ISO settings. The ISO range above 800 produces prominent noise, requires careful attention to exposure, and noticeably reduces resolution of images.

The D2Xs has a "crop mode" that yields about half the currently-set megapixels per image. I have found this useful for dog sport action photography, as the maximum frame rate increases from 5 fps to 8 fps when in crop mode. When one does not intend maximum-size enlargements, crop mode becomes a handy tool. The reduced taking area is masked in the viewfinder with selection of crop mode. Essentially, Nikon obviated most needs for the D2Hs camera by providing crop mode on the D2Xs. It provides a frame rate on a par with the D2Hs in this mode, though it reduces the view angle of whatever lens is attached. The D2Xs can thus perform almost all the functions of the D2Hs as well as its own.

The D2Xs has typical Nikon pro build quality. This means environmental seals to help deal with inclement weather and bad locations, a strong metal frame, and heavy-duty user control interfaces. It also means it is a heavy camera. I'm 6'3" and about 200#, and this camera is a bit taxing to carry around for me. Especially when paired with a killer lens like the Nikkor 70-200mm VR, one is talking about serious weight. I commonly use at least a monopod if I will be taking photos for any extended length of time.

What Nikon has provided over the years are ergonomics suited to the professional photographer. Most of the things that are needed for shot-to-shot adjustment on the D2Xs have operable controls or at least dedicated menus, as in the ISO, quality, and color balance controls on the rear of the camera. The menu system allows a plethora of tuning adjustments to the behavior of the camera and how the images are produced and processed. Despite the ultimate complexity, I was able to get acquainted with my D2Xs within a couple of days and successfully shot a day-long event with it. Thus the four stars on "ease of use" reflects the steep initial learning curve and the ready-to-hand character of daily operation.

One of the deciding factors for me on going to the D2Xs back in 2006 was the presence of a voice memo function. There is a dedicated button on the rear of the camera and a microphone there as well. One can choose whether the camera automatically starts a voice memo with every picture or whether a memo will be taken only when manually requested. The recording shares the name of the image it is associated with and the "WAV" extension. For anyone who is taking a day's worth of event photos, this is a godsend, and was only available at the time on the Nikon pro "Dn" line, not any of their pro-sumer and consumer DSLRs. Nor had Fuji carried over voice memo from the S2 to the S3 or S5. If I take photos at, say, a Vizsla dog show, where every dog looks more or less like every other dog there, the voice memo can let me say the name of the current dog or capture an announcer doing that. The audio quality of the monoaural recordings made by the voice memo function is surprisingly good, and the microphone is pretty sensitive, allowing one to capture background sound easily.

While an inspired photographer can make art with a Holga point-and-shoot, the inspired photographer will find in the Nikon D2Xs a complement to achieve images with the highest technical perfection as well. What it takes away are excuses for sub-par performance.

I know how to get good deals on the D2x and D2xs. I will not sell it. This will soon be my back up camera when I get a D3 or D3x.

I had a D60 then D80 and then D2x and now for a year now, the D2xs. D2x and D2xs are about 90% the same. It is a top of the line camera and also the last of the professional DX cameras (maybe for now).

You can not go wrong with this investment. You can get a D3 for 4 or 5k so if you are buy a D2x or D2xs above 3k, you are crazy.

I've been an aspiring photographer for most of my adult life and always striving to get that better shot.I'll never be a pro, but always striving for a better photo. I used to have a nice 35mm outfit with multiple lenses, but then the digital age came into play. I've had a few digital cameras, but nothing with the capabilities of a true SLR. Finally, with much thanks to my Wife, I have a new Canon Eos Rebel t1i and couldn't be happier and am very impressed with the image quality of this camera. If you want simple, just run in full auto mode. After that, the capabilities with the various modes are as flexible as your imagination. I'm just getting started (had it for 3 weeks now), but each time I use it, I'm more impressed. Definitely a great camera for the money. I purchased with the standard 18-55 mm Kit lens and also the 75-250mm zoom. I would recommend doing the same, or at least plan on adding lenses down the road. These two lenses give me a very good range and I'm finding the zoom is great for candid photos and wildlife shots. Time will tell, but so far, I think I made the right choice.

So, I've been using point and shoots and becoming frustrated with the results. This is my first foray into DSLR land, and I have to say, I'm hooked! This has got to be the MOST versatile piece of equipment that I've ever owned. Of course there's a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, you'll have problems putting this camera down. Eventually, I hope to upgrade, but for right now, this is the camera to have. If you're thinking about buying one, stop thinking about it and do it. You WON'T be disappointed, and the time you're spending thinking about it could be better spent taking pictures.

I'm impressed with the pictures clarity and details! The autofocus works amazingly fast. Manual focus is very easy. I'm still learning to use the camera (my oldest brother had an SLR camera 25 years ago, when I was a kid, so it has been a while I don't use one of these). Changing the lense is not confusing. The 18-55mm lens works great for shooting wide ange photos. The 55-275mm lens works very for zooming.

I was able to shoot over 500 pictures before recharging the battery.

This is the best camera I have ever owned. The pictures are super sharp, even in low light. The only negative comment that I have is the movie mode. It does not work as well as a camcorder. Every other mode works really well and it is super easy to use.

In reading about this product before purchase, it was not entirely clear whether it had a continuous zoom capablity. The answer is Yes, it does have continuously variable magnification, although not in the same manner as the zoom on a digital camera. By simply turning the focus knob, one can adjust the focal distance from infinity to approximately 6 millimeters. At the infinity focus setting, the field of view is roughly the same as a simple hand-held digital camera, and the image across the room is fairly good. As you rotate the focus barrel, the field of view continuously decreases as does the focal distance. You can stop at any point in the rotation and find the focus point for that particular setting. At the opposite end of the focus rotation, the focal distance is roughly 6mm (1/4")and maximum magnification is reached. The effective magnification you get is dependent on the size of computer screen you have. At maximum magnification, a 1.00 millimeter gradation (included with the unit as a calibration tool) measured about 150 mm on a laptop screen, for a magnification factor of 150X. The same image on a 23" monitor would be pretty close to the stated 300X magnification capability.

As with all microscopes, the depth of focus gets smaller as the magnification increases. At maximum magnification, the depth of focus is extremely shallow, which means it is very touchy to focus the microscope (and stay in focus). The included tripod stand is not really satisfactory at high mag. since there is no focus knob, just a gripper through which you must slide the body to adjust focus. The plastic tripod is too flexible to provide a repeatable height as you try to make tiny adjustments to the microscope position. I've seen a knob-adjustable stand on EBay which was purpose-built for the Super-eyes Digital microscopes, but I have not yet tried it out to see how stable it is. It is reasonably priced, so I'll probably order one to try it out. At lower magnifications, the tripod stand is fairly OK, such as taking a macro photo of a stamp, or looking at a bug.

The software that comes with the microscope is OK, but very basic and not particularly intuitive. I'm still playing with it to understand its capabilities, but it does at least have a rudimentary on-screen measurement capability, and comes with a little plastic strip with a calibration scale printed on it. Of course, calibration is magnification-dependant, so if you change the mag (focus), you must re-calibrate. I have not yet played with the video capability of the software. The instruction manual is written in pigeon-English and not very useful. It does not even describe how to install the software on your computer (you have to copy over a folder from the disk to your desktop and start Supereyes.exe from that folder.)

There is a thumbwheel illumination controller which is spliced into the USB cable. It works well to control the level of illumination given by the 4 integrated LEDs. The issue with the thumbwheel is that it is located only ~10 inches from where the cable enters the microscope body, so with the rickety lightweight tripod stand, you have to be really careful not to disturb the positioning of the microscope when you want to change the illumination. On the other hand, the camera software has an auto-brightness function, so changing the illumination is not often required.

In the photos of this microscope, the pencil-shaped body looks like metal and it is; apparently anodized aluminum. The unit is very sturdy and the focus barrel moves very smoothly through its range. There is no strain relief for the USB cable where it exits the body, so you will probably want to take care to not bend the cable very often.

The camera sensor is a CMOS chip, not a CCD chip as in most digital cameras, so the color rendition is not quite as clean as your typical digital camera. However, for its intended function, price, and compactness, it serves the purpose well enough. I have read that some other digital microscope manufacturers fudge the actual resolution of the sensor by claiming the extrapolated image size. I do not believe that is the case, here. It appears that the actual sensor resolution is 1600x1200, or 1.9 megapixels, although I have not dug very deeply to verify that.

In summary, it is a nice little microscope with adequate software and a poor stand. If you could buy it with a sturdy knob-adjustable stand, I'd recommend that.

Using it for school projects. Amazing clarity picture. Software was a little tricky. Downloaded newest software and everything works great.

I bought DrMeter's microscope but didn't work on my mac.

Therefore, I return the item and bought suspereye's microscope which is absolutely the same product with this.

I was worried.

But! this time, it worked on my mac.

Mac recognized the usb microscope right after I plugged in.

I used photo booth to use the microscope.

You can have a bunch of attachments depends on how you want to use.

I like one I can see inside ear.

Very small like a pen, you can adjust the light as well.

But the software was not recognized by mac.

Actually it is fine because you can used photo booth.

USB has malfunctioned and no longer properly stays connected. I have only used it moderately for less than 3 months. It's a shame because it was a handy device while it worked.

JVC GR-DVL915U Digital Camcorder

The JVC GR-DVL915U is a three-way delight. First, it is a top of the line MiniDV format camcorder with nearly every feature you could want or need. I'll mention just two of the many features that stand out. Electronic stablization works as well as those on pro-model cameras. Also, what JVC calls "Night Alive" is a surprise: full color video in next-to-no-light settings. Most other camcorders can't match this ability. Second, the GR-DVL915U works as a digital still camera, storing images on either state-of-the art secure digital (SD) or MMC cards. The resolution isn't what you'll get from a dedicated digital camera, but the 640x480 resolution is sufficient for posting on a website or for digital archives. The final treat: the camera has an analog input, so you can take all of your aging VHS analog videos of important family moments and transfer them to digital and preserve them.

I haven't found another MiniDV camera with all of these assets for this price. The only weakness in this unit is the dated photo transfer and editing software that is included. Thankfully, you don't have to use it. The camera comes with all of the cables and connectors you need. Also included is a multi-brand remote control and JVC even throws in a 16MB MMC card for still photos.

To be honest, I had set my expectations a bit too high and was somewhat disappointed by the image quality. For instance, I had my eye on a digital camera (for stills) as well as a camcorder. So I thought I'd combine the two in a single purchase. Well, guess what! This little baby offers less than 1 megapixel (Mp), while the cheapest digital camera offers at least 1.3 Mp, with many models offering 3.3 and I've even seen ads offering 5 Mp.

Second (incorrect) expectation was video quality. I used to own a VHS-C and after all the hype I'd heard about about digital, I was expecting perfect video, the same quality you get on, say, the Discovery Channel. Wrong again. Although the quality is an order of magnitude better than my old VHS-C.

So, having said all that why did I rate this camera 4 stars? Because it is a great camera for the money. Yes you can get camcorders with 1.5 Mp stills, the Sony DCR-TRV30 for example, but they cost... more. Not worth that extra money...

As for the video quality? Like I said much, MUCH better than the older VHS-C quality I used to have. The colors are great, you can make infinite copies without loss of quality (that's digital for you) and I've been playing with video editing software on the PC and the resulting videos are awesome and fun.

Furthermore, JVC has done a great job on the user interface to set and control its enormous amount of features. They are menu-driven which leaves the camera refreshingly clean of "buttons". This can be a big issue if you have "fat fingers" or are someone who can get lost in too many buttons (check out some of the other camcorders and you'll know what I mean).

So in summary, if you set your expectations right, this is a great camera with solid image quality for its price, is very rich in features and comes at a good price. Four stars in my book.

I bought this camera in 2001 when the fetures available in this model was fairly high-end among consumer models. The picture and sound quality was great and to my opinion better than comparably priced Sony models.

I used the camera very lightly, only in special events and maintained it nicely, taking good care. However, after 4 years it started malfunctioning.

When I power it on for recording, it gives out an error screen asking me to remove and re-attach battery and the unit is in safeguard mode! I have two new batteries (original JVC) and the same problem. When I remove the battery and try to use it with AC Adapter, the error is still displayed. Only the battery instruction is not displayed!

I tried head-cleaners etc with no result. After several trial of removing and re-attaching battery, taking the casette out and putting it back in, sometimes the camera starts working again and abrupty dies after some time of recording.

Additionally, the casette compartment often does not work automatically. Either the casette won't go in or it won't come out upon opening the compartment. Basically, the mechanisms are designed quite poorly as I see it.
