I use this microphone with other professional mics for bird and wildlife audio as well as general security. Please note LOUDNESS is determined by the gain (think volume control) of the security unit circuits not just this microphone. More about that below if you wish to read on. For now I will say that this mic, being "powered", has a low noise level and a high sensitivity in a 60 degree cone to the the general direction it is pointing. It is very transparent but does not have (or need) outstanding fidelity. It has AGC (automatic gain control) to even out the loud and soft sounds and that is a good feature. It is ideal for security uses and the price is right! Is it loud enough to capture the elusive noise you WANT to record with your security DVR? It depends on you DVR audio circuits and how quiet of a noise you EXPECT to record. You will just have to try it but I suspect that most "powered" security mics will record at about the same loudness. In a nutshell, this one seems to be a very good value.

Details My microphones all go through an audio mixer before patching into the security DVR or other recorder. Yes, I have meters to monitor and adjust loudness too. Also, I listen with headphones to avoid any chance of feedback loops. If I want any mic to be louder (more sensitive to faint sounds in the lingo of an audio engineer) I turn up the mixer's gain. In theory the more you amplify a microphone signal the fainter and more distant the sound you can hear but there are always limits in the real world, huh?

Turn any mic way, way up and you may hear the rumble from your home's fridge motor, furnace, AC, cars on distant roads, etc (a general low frequency rumble). Also, the more you turn it up the more "line noise" you hear. Line noise sounds like static and can become so loud that it drowns out the distant noise you want to hear. WARNING: Opening a door or speaking anywhere near the mic with the volume cranked up will blow the headphones right off your head and probably ruin your hearing too. Please note that most security DVR systems do NOT have an audio gain control or volume knob. Audio gain in a security system might be useful to folks who complain that a certain mic only recorded things a few feet away!

They do make expensive, professional microphones for videographers and film makers that are very sensitive to distant, quiet noises while keeping background static and noise to a minimum (think about recording roaring lions from 500 yards). Some use a parabolic collector (like a satellite dish) and some called shotgun mics are long, skinny things that listen to a very narrow tunnel of sound much like binoculars or a zoom lens that looks far away but at a very small area. Search Amazon for "parabolic microphone" to see such toy and professional microphones.

Back to this security mic. Actually this "powered, active electronics" mic has less noise and is better for security recording than some professional microphone costing hundreds of dollars. You see, security mics have high gain, low noise and AGC. For any audio geeks out there, this mic is much quieter with MORE gain than any dynamic mic but with less dynamic range. I would have to use a phantom powered or active electronics professional mic to get as much sheer gain with as low a noise floor as this cheap security mic!

In conclusion, for it's intended use this microphone is very good all that you need. But, can you record a grasshopper burp in the next block? Nope! Once again, your mileage (and mic sensitivity) will vary depending on the security DVR you hook it to but I suspect that most security mics will record at about the same "loudness". Try this one and see if it doesn't fill the bill for recording sound around the area your camera covers.

We hooked the audio up to the security system we bought for our home. It works as others said it would. Picks up sound well.

I think this is the best camera I have ever owned. It is a little old school looking, but I personally like it. The image stabilization is great, it's got a built in wide angle lens, it zooms without the lens moving on the outside, it's a very nice camera. I did my research before I bought this one and went to consumer reports and this camera had the highest ratings for the portable point and shoot cameras. Plus it is very affordable. Highly recommend this camera

Takes pictures extremely fast. Can take a picture within ~1-2 seconds of turning the camera on. Consecutive pictures come very quickly, even when charging the flash. One of the few point and shoot camera's that will allow you to zoom in and out while shooting 720P video. I used to buy Canon camera's exclusively, but I wanted to start shooting quick video clips of my kids, so I was specifically looking for a great point and shoot that takes acceptable video. I shoot video when something is happening, which usually means you would like to zoom to keep the action in frame. Takes great quality pictures. 4.6 optical zoom is also above average for this price point. Great for super close ups as well.

Have been extremely happy with this camera, once I sent the first one back to J&R due to a spec of dust internal to the camera. I would give them one out of 5 stars for the extremely slow handling of my RMA.

I spent a lot of time looking at the ratings on this camera. Consumer Reports recommends it, and the reviews on every other website I checked out seemed very positive. I was not disappointed. Once the power button is turned on, the camera is ready to take a picture in 2-3 seconds (great for those spontaneous shots). There's a feature that automatically detects the best settings to use for every shot you take. It's compact and lightweight. The screen is very clear and plenty large, and the controls are simple to understand. All in all, this was a great purchase, and I highly recommend this camera.

I decided on the DCM-FP8 based on a couple of previous Lumix models I have had. This model caught my attention for 2 primary reasons; 1) the 12.1 MP quality and 2) the image stabilization feature. I use a camera mostly on the job and take quick and spontaneous shots (image stabilization becomes very important.) This unit does not let me down! The picture quality is superb and the portability is exactly what I was looking for--I highly recommend the DCM-FP8 if you are looking for a simple to use, high quality, and portable "point-n-shoot" camera.

I am a big Canon fan. My last camera was a five year old G2. It gave me years of quality service. I almost went with the Canon Elfs as I was now looking for a pocket camera. But I after researching I decided to take a chance on the FP8. Really happy I did. It came when it was supposed to. Everything was there.( also bought extra memory and battery)

It was supposed to be used, but I couldn't tell; looks brand new to me: in the original box and packing.

Took a bunch of pics and video in several modes and environments.

I expected the pic to be really good and they were. In fact, even better than I expected. I don't expect to take much video with it, but I tested it anyway. Wow! Did not expect the video to be so great. I cant believe these little pocket point and shoots have this kind of picture and video quality. Camera, extra battery and 8GB of extra memory for $200. I took the free shipping. Took like 6 days to get to me, I was in no rush. I'm happy.

I am now a fan of Canon and Panasonic. Also, if you don't take much video,only pics, 8GB memeory card is over kill. But it was so cheap I bought it anyway. With the ease of use, and quality, of the video I may start taking more video. If I do, I have plenty of room for it.

I bought four of these (prior version) cameras for school and one for the school auction/dance (auctioned off with 4 hours of my time for photo instruction, etc.).

Anyhow I LOVE these cameras. AA batts so I don't have to worry about whether the camera is charged or not. (I have a PowerShot SX210 with two lithium batts, personally. But for school, recharging batts is no good the cameras might sit on the shelf for a while and lose charge and I don't want to buy extra $60 batts for them.)

So...kids use them, mostly, to shoot videos. Being able to take the SCCard out of the camera and put it into a small SD Card reader is just so easy. Forget about the USB cable. Most laptops now come with SD slots in them so you can pop the card out of the camera and into your laptop how much easier is that??

TENVIS Wireless IP Pan/Tilt/ Night Vision Internet Surveillance Camera Built-in Microphone With Pho

This might be the first review on Amazon of the Tenvis JPT3815W. I originally wanted to go with the Foscam since it was the most popular of the same type of IP camera, but decided to take a chance with the Tenvis. The little booklet manual was easy to follow and has good illustrations and photos. Set it up first with the ethernet cable before attempting wireless setup. The software auto-detects your network and puts the camera in the same IP address range. I got it all working and was viewing over the LAN in under a half-hour. With some port-forwarding knowledge, you can set the camera up for remote view on your smartphone, which I did with the excellent Android phone app, TinyCam Monitor Pro. Picture quality is good and focus can be manually adjusted by turning the ring around and night-vision works very well.

When operating, a green LED flashes continuously but unfortunately there is no way to turn it off in the software and hopefully the manufacturer will have a fix for it sometime in the near future.

I was looking for an inexpensive way to monitor my house while away and this product exceeds my expectations. While the setup can be challenging, the Tenvis technical support was very prompt! This product allows me to monitor my house (and pets) where ever I may be through either 3G access from my smartphone (either android or iphone) or internet access. The Pan and Tilt functionality of this camera allows me to monitor my entire living room with just one camera. Therefore, I'm able to sit at work and scan my living room to make sure my everything is ok. Also, it has 2 way audio where I can hear what's happening at home and also talk through the camera. You can also record through the camera (to your pc) and take "snapshots" of moments in time. I've looked at other surveillance systems and for the price of just one camera, this could not be beat. You can add up to 9 cameras and monitor your entire house. There is also an "alarm" function that will email you if there is "motion" in front of the camera. It takes "snapshots" of the motion and includes them in the email. This amazes me for the $60 price range. To get the most functionality out of the camera remotely, you must use Internet Explorer, but you do have limited functionality from other web browsers. The "smartphone" functionality is much more limited than using a web browser, but to be able to view your house through your phone is pretty impressive. I've just ordered two more cameras for my house which is still "cheaper" than many of the other surveillance systems I've seen that ultimately have fewer bells and whistles. I've very impressed with the camera!

I have 3 JPT3815W cameras (plus 1 of a different brand). These are about as easy to install within a LAN as any other wireless device. However, setting them up for access from outside a LAN is more difficult. To be specific, I happen to have an Actiontec DSL Modem and I was able to achieve remote viewing only after configuring the modem to allow 'port forward' for each of the cameras. To accomplish this, I assigned port numbers of 8080, 8081, 8082, and 8083 to each camera respectively. After this I signed onto the Actiontec and created a port forwarding table. (I did this by entering each one of these numbers as well as each cameras IP address). Then, because my Internet service provider uses Dynamic IP addressing, I signed up with a DNS service provider. I elected to sign up with NO-IP at a cost of $15 per year. (Note that DYNDNS charges $20 per year). However, if only one domain is being setup then there is no cost to sign up. After obtaining my DNS account with NO-IP, I was able to create 4 separate hostnames and to then associate each camera's IP address and port number to that particular hostname. (Tenvis offers technical support if it is needed).

These cameras are nice when they work, but they don't work very long. Ordered 2 of them. First one failed the second day it was in use. Second failed 2 weeks after the return window closed, which means I get to deal with warranty support via Tenvis. Both cameras were mounted inside the house. Meanwhile my Foscam, which has been abused by being mounted in a cold garage, is still going strong more than a year after I bought it. Tenvis appears attractive because it's about $25 or so cheaper than the Foscams, but the failure rate has been unacceptable.

We've been upgrading our security system from Logitech cams to IP cams, and let me tell ya, the difference is stark. Logitech's security cams have always been wonky, but now with the addition of these new IP cams, Logitech's shortcomings have become stark. Do yourself a favor, and get these IP cams instead.

> Foscam vs Tenvis

This Tenvis looks to be identical to this older Foscam FI8918W. Tenvis performs just as well as this old model Foscam, but has a slightly narrower Pan & Tilt range:

Tenvis: Horizontal 270°; Vertical 90°

Foscam: Horizontal 270°; Vertical 120°

That 30° difference in the vertical lens movement can be a big deal, depending on the environment where you're using the cams. A little extra coverage is never a bad thing.

> User Interface

Tenvis just doesn't even come close to Foscam in this department. Foscam is much more refined, pleasing to the eye and just downright easier to use. Tenvis, by contrast, appears much cruder and rudimentary. The UI is loaded onto each cam itself, so all you need is a web browser to view all the options. Tenvis basically has the same features, but just not laid out as nicely as Foscam.

> No IR LED Control

One stunning omission with the Tenvis' functionality, is that you can NOT turn off the infra red LEDs manually. This is important, because IR LEDs will NOT work through glass. Even though IR isn't visible to the naked eye, the cam certainly sees it, and if you try to place this in a window looking outside, all the cam sees is a white spotlight reflecting off the glass. So in that instance, turning off the LEDs would be helpful. Also, there's some cam locations that have plenty of light, even at night, so turning off the LEDs would help make the cam more stealth. As it is, this is just not possible with Tenvis.

> Performance

The wireless range doesn't appear to be as good with Tenvis compared to Foscam. However, adding a longer external antenna seemed to help the issue. I got this one: WIFI 10 dBi 2.4GHz Antenna and they work quite well. About 3.5x longer than the antenna that came with this Tenvis. Definitely worthwhile.

> Value

We got this Tenvis for about half the cost of the new Foscam FI8916W New Housing. At that price, we just couldn't pass up on adding another cam to our system. This cam is excellent for the money, but Foscam is better constructed, IMO. This one just feels a bit cheap by comparison. However, once it's mounted, none of that really matters, since it functions just fine.

> Not As Many PTZ Presets

Foscam has 8, Tenvis has 6. No stark difference, but certainly worth noting.

> Works With Blue Iris Software

We recently upgraded our software to Foscam Blue Iris Professional, and let me tell ya, it's fantastic. Puts Logitech to shame for sure. Blue Iris works with almost every webcam, USB cam, and IP cam on the market. Setting up this Tenvis on it was quick and seamless.

**Note** You can use EITHER Foscam or Tenvis settings for this cam. Both work. Just good to know, in case some unknown conflict arises.

> Picture Quality

The images from the cam look fantastic. Seems to be on par with Foscam in this dept. Nice, crystal clear images, and very detailed. Almost looks HD, even though it's the old standard of 640x480.

> Pan & Tilt

Tenvis isn't as smooth as Foscam with the pan and tilt movement. The motor works fine, but the images can be a bit jerky. This might be related to wireless range. Nothing terrible, but worth noting.

> Iffy Mounting Bracket

By far, Tenvis is inferior to Foscam in this dept. Their mount just feels cheap by comparison, and like it could easily break if you over-tighten your screws. Plus, the angle adjustment knobs just don't stay in place as nicely, or clamp down as tight as Foscam's mounting bracket. If you bump your Tenvis, or don't handle it gingerly, the bracket moves from where you've set it and you have to make readjustments.

> Loud PTZ Motor

If you're planning on recording audio from this Tenvis, be aware that the mic picks up the PTZ motor while it's moving. When the PTZ motor stops, you can hear audio just fine. But once that motor kicks in again, you won't hear much, other than that PTZ motor whirring quite loudly into the mic.

> Setup

You'll need some knowledge of IP addresses and basic routing, but nothing difficult. A few paragraphs of reading at most. Very easy to setup and get going. Mine was up and running within 15 minutes. Granted, it was another day or 2 of tinkering to refine everything exactly how I want it, but the initial setup took no time at all. I didn't even read the enclosed material; just jumped right in and got it all setup in a snap.

Bottom Line -This is a fantastic IP cam for the money, but the user interface isn't as user friendly as Foscam. If I need another budget cam, I'd definitely get another Tenvis. However, if there's a deal to be had on Foscam, I'd pick that one over Tenvis for sure. We're quite happy with our Tenvis, particularly at the price we got it for. Hands-down it kicks Logiteh's arse; very nice to finally be dumping WiLife. Happy! ;oD

Birthday Present from my mom~ My very first personal camera (I usually use my aunt's canon) and I love it! I'm not a professional photographer but this camera takes really crisp pictures! Zoom is pretty good and the face tracking is really accurate~ Pixels are not all mashed up when you zoom in it warns you when you zoom in too much and you notice the increasing blurriness of the photo. Pictures in low light look really good also as though there was a light source present. I have yet to experiment much with the videos but it from the little videos i've shot, the video is pretty clear.The fact that I don't have to go mad looking for AA or AAA batteries is a SUPER PLUS! Miss perfect picture moments because of batteries and nobody loves that~ You do have to buy a memory card because the camera doesn't come with one.

Terrific camera! I don't know how much she paid for the camera so I cannot comment on the price.

I picked up the S3300 at a Sam's Club because my S8000 started acting up while on vacation. I thought by staying in the Nikon family, all would be well. Big mistake!!! The extra $100 to get you into the next class of cameras is well worth it if you are more than the occasional photographer.

CONS

It's S-L-O-W. Painfully slow....so slow, that I returned it and got my money back.

It's slow (and difficult) to get all 9 focus boxes to appear for a crisp clear picture.

It's slow to save the picture to the SD Card (class 10)

It's slow to transfer the pictures out of the camera to your computer (at least this can be fixed by taking out the SD Card and connecting it directly to your computer)

30% of my pictures were blurry. Most likely because it takes forever to focus. I shot about 1000 pictures on my vacation. 30% (300) blurry photos, that's a lot.

PRO's

As crappy as the camera is to take a STILL picture, it takes great pictures while you're moving (go figure). It has a "sports" setting allowing you to take pictures of something that's moving, or from a moving car...and they look great!

Being able to see the screen in bright daylight is also a big plus with Nikon cameras.

My mother bought this camera on Amazon for my 10-year old daughter for Christmas. It seemed perfect for her very slim and easy to operate. My daughter loved it immediately. Unfortunately she left it outside on our swingset ... for almost a week ... and it rained/snowed every day. They only reason we found it is that it had sleeted/snowed one night, and the kids were out playing the next morning. I heard my daughter WAILING as she discovered the camera. It was frozen to the swingset, encased in ice.

We brought it inside and packed it in uncooked rice (an old tech trick to dry out electronics) for the 1% chance it might still work. I assumed that was the end of the story, and that we would call this an expensive lesson in taking care of your possessions.

After several days, I pulled the camera out of the rice, popped the battery back in it, and TURNED IT ON!!! It came on just as if it had been sitting in a drawer for a week, instead of outside in winter precipitation! I proceeded to take several pictures and played with some settings and it worked fine. There wasn't even any moisture inside the lens. My daughter was absolutely thrilled and has been snapping photos ever since.

So I have to give it to Nikon they made one heck of a camera here. It's good to know that something that is meant to be taken out into the world and used is sturdy and well made.

If you shop around you will not find a simular product that has the hard drive included for the money. I found other 4 chanel DVR around the same cost but they did not incude the hard drive. The instruction book is badly written, however with a little playing around I was able to hook it up and use all of the features fairly easily. The motion censor works great, it has 10 settings, 1 being less sensitve & 10 being more sensitve. I have been using it for about 2 weeks now and I am happy with the product. The only suggestion I would have for SWAN would be to get somebody else to write the instruction book, it is VERY hard to understand. After about 15 minutes of trying to figure it out from the book I just sat it down and decided I was much better off trying to figure it out for myself.

Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2 Zoom Lens with Built-in Motor + 3 UV/FLD/CPL Filters + Trip

Nice package of goodies for the same price as most places charge for just the lens. The lens itself works nicely. Sharpness is better than I'd expect for a lens at this price point. I have all Nikon lens and needed a long lens (over 200mm) for my kids sporting events. I didn't want to spend alot so I took a chance on this Tamron. Even without the vibration reduction at 300mm the outdoor shots are sharp. Low light, not so good. The motor hunts sometimes when lots of targets are at different distances. I'm used to the quickness of Nikon auto focus and this is slower but still very usable in most situations.

The macro is very good as well. The pix are sharp, edge to edge and color shows little signs of bleed.

The construction is what would be expected for an inexpensive lens. Although it feels good and handles well, I would be careful to not bump into anything. Switching to manual focus is easy. The zoom is smooth. Getting into and out of macro requires you to take your eye off the subject, look at the lens and line up the limits additionally you don't have full range of the lens in macro. The filter is cheap but functional. It also comes with a lens bag and a nice shade.

As far as the rest of the package, the lens cleaning kit and protective covers are OK, probable worth a couple bucks. The tripod is a good solid tripod well constructed, again, for the price! If your looking for top quality your going to have to dig deeper in you bank account, otherwise a very good value.

I bought this for my husband for our anniversary. He loves it, and my wallet loved the price. We are not professional photograpers so we do not need $700 + lens for our camera. This lens has worked great for us. We took our grandchildren to the beach for their first time and we have some great candid shots of them. My husband could be on the balcony of our house while they were on the beach and never knew they were being photographed. I reccomend this lens.
