I have purchased other cables to connect my D800E to my monitor, but this is the first one that worked. Picture quality is excellent.

Also, dCables is great do do business with. The first cable was lost in the mail despite having a USPS tracking number. dCables promptly sent me a replacement without hassle.

Optex iVision Wireless 2-Way Video Door Intercom System

Optex iVision Wireless 2-Way Video Door Intercom SystemA previous reviewer stated, inaccurately, that the product descriptions for this unit are misleading. This is not the case. I am submitting this review to (hopefully) correct the misperceptions created by that review. (If said reviewer happens to see this, check the last part of my review to see how to correctly use your unit. I think you will be pleasantly surprised to see it will, in fact, very easily do exactly what you purchased it for, based on your stated needs.)

Here is the Amazon.com product description (my comments added):

"The new iVision achieves both by giving you the ability to not only know when somebody is outside your home, but to view and talk to them from the safety and comfort of any location in the house. The iVision package includes a convenient hand-held wireless receiver with 2.25" LCD monitor and battery operated doorbell/camera unit with over 300ft. transmission range. (Specifies that the door unit can be battery operated, which is accurate.) In addition, the doorbell/camera unit can be hardwired into existing doorbell power supply to allow the user to utilize a "browse" feature on the handheld unit. (Very clearly specifies that ***IF*** you wire the door unit to the existing doorbell power supply, ***THEN*** you can do more things with it. Note that this says nothing about wiring it directly to AC power this unit operates on low voltage only.) This feature allows the user to monitor the view from the doorbell/camera unit on the LCD display. (States what the addition capability is. Monitor simply means to be able to view the camera at will, versus interacting only as a two-way video intercom when the doorbell button on the door unit is pressed. It should be noted that this product is called a VIDEO INTERCOM, not a full-time surveillance camera. And it really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that the ability to sit around viewing the camera whenever you want, for as long as you want, would require some additional power source at the camera besides the small batteries it uses. The manufacturer locked that function out when on battery only mode so people wouldn't sit around constantly running down the batteries in the camera unit.)

One can certainly understand if, upon receipt of the product, the purchaser realizes he/she did not fully understand the product description and decides to return it. (My sympathies to the reviewer who apparently went through product return hell.) But to give the product a one star review because you didn't fully digest the words you read is unnecessary. I have used many Optex products over the past 15 years, and I say with complete confidence that they make uncommonly solid, reliable products.

HERE'S HOW TO WIRE THE DOORBELL/CAMERA UNIT, QUICKLY AND EASILY:

Note: This assumes the existing doorbell a) Exists, b) is functional and c) is a hardwired doorbell. The overwhelming majority of homes in the US have hardwired doorbells. Whether they are functional is obviously a matter of whether they have been maintained in working condition. If your existing doorbell system uses a wireless doorbell button (usually done as a quick, inexpensive fix when the hardwired unit malfunctions, rather than having it repaired), you will not be able to use the browse mode on the camera without wiring low voltage power to the doorbell/camera unit. If you don't know what that entails, find or hire someone who does.

Installation: Hardwired doorbells use a transformer inside the house to convert AC power to a low voltage power source that operates the doorbell system. Basically the same as all the bazillion transformers we all have plugged into our outlets to power various things, except this one is hardwired directly to your AC wiring instead of plugged into an outlet. That low voltage output powers two things the doorbell itself (the actual ding-donger), and the button by the door. ALL THAT IS NEEDED TO HARDWIRE EXISTING DOORBELL POWER TO YOUR NEW DOORBELL/CAMERA UNIT IS TO TAKE THE EXISTING DOORBELL BUTTON OFF THE WALL AND ADD A FEW INCHES OF TWO-CONDUCTOR WIRE, GOING FROM THE TERMINALS ON THE BACK OF THE BUTTON TO THE POWER INPUTS ON THE DOORBELL/CAMERA UNIT. REATTACH THE OLD BUTTON, SCREW THE NEW UNIT TO THE WALL, AND YOU ARE DONE.

If your original doorbell was working, then the new one should now be ready to go. Note that this means the unit is intended to be mounted next to the door (just like your existing doorbell button), not on the door directly. If you don't care about the extra capability gained when hardwiring, and just want to stick with battery operation, slap it right on the door if you want to. Keep in mind that if you choose not to wire it to the existing doorbell, the existing doorbell cannot activate the video intercom, as a previous reviewer noted. But that really shouldn't seem like rocket science to anyone smart enough to get online and order products. :-)

I am not affiliated with Optex in any way. I am self-employed in a service industry. I just ordered one of these units for my mother, who is about to have hip-replacement surgery. It's a brilliant design, easily installed and operated, and from a good, reputable manufacturer.

We purchased a device advertised as a two-way intercom security system. However, it only works if communication is issued from one-end thus not fully making it two ways. This did not suit our needs and we contacted Surveillent via phone four times over a period of three weeks to initiate a return authorization prior to the 30 day return window and received no response whatsoever. We then contacted the company via email through Amazon.com and finally received a response. They made no apology for lack of customer service in returning our initial phone calls and proceeded to tell us that it was our fault we purchased the wrong product even though the product description is very limited and reads as follows:

Technical Details

* 300ft transmission range, line of sight

* Two way Intercom 2.25" LCD Color Monitor

* Live browsing feature when door / camera unit is hardwired

* System can store up to 163 images

* Day/Night Operation

I explained that there was no way we could know how this works without seeing the product. What then ensued was the single worst online shopping experience I have ever had. Surveillent told us that we had abused them by "trying to using their products as our own research facility," mocked our "inability" to do proper research and subsequently harassed us through seven different emails. They threatened us with a "dream team of lawyers" that they had $30 million in sales and they were going to "teach us a legal lesson." Clearly at Surveillant not only is the customer not always right they are to be abused while shopping. If you want to by this product do so through a different Amazon seller in case it doesn't suit your needs.

There is not too much to say that isn't already mentioned by Andrew. I took off 1 star because this is a half duplex system. Meaning that if the person outside is talking and you start talking from inside then you can not hear the person outside while your voice is transmitting to them. For 200+ bucks full duplex it should have been full duplex. Conversations are limited to 60 seconds. The device does store snapshots of the individuals that ring your doorbell so that you can see who may have stopped by while you were out. The camera works great in darkness but not very good when the suns brightness is reaching the camera.

I think some way of communicating with the person at your door without opening it is important to have. Being able to see them and automatically snapping a picture is a huge plus.

Heres how we installed the device on my house that has Vinyl siding. We removed the doorbell then removed the 2 wires that was hooked up to the doorbell. we then drilled a hold from the right of the doorbell (where the vinyl meets the lip thats next to the door frame) hole into the doorbell hole then attached those 2 wires to some wires in a flat telephone line. We then hid the flat phone line in the lip next to the door frame (where the vinyl meet the lip) and we mounted the intercom right next to the lip. Looks great but right now my intercom is only being held by the vinyl so its not as secure as I would like it to be. Perhaps I need longer screws or maybe needed to find a "stud" first. We are newbies at this kind of stuff.

Product does as it represented. Communicates around 100 feet through an exterior wall, three interior walls and up to a second story in the house.

The only real draw back is if you mount the exterior unit to utilize an existing door bell connection the camera has no upward adjustment. At that mounting height you get a picture of a waist.

This thing is great! After getting quotes from local alarm dealers I decided to look in to this because it was hundreds of dollars cheaper than what I was quoted for wired systems. I was a little unsure if this would work since I live in a 4 story row home but after getting it setup it works just fine. My only complaint is that when people press the button it only rings on the unit itself. It would be nice if it would also send a signal to the rest of the doorbells in my house as well.

What I did then is put my original doorbell button right below this unit, spliced in to the same doorbell wire. When people see this unit, most of the time they press the regular doorbell since it's not immediately noticeable on the unit where the button is. Using this setup all of my doorbells ring which alerts me to somebody outside. Then I just go to the remote viewer and press the answer button to activate the camera. The security this provides me and my wife is excellent because my front door does not have a viewing hole to see who's outside.

Setup was a cinch too! All you have to do is remove your old door bell, mount the bracket, and attach the wires to this unit. Then put the unit in to the bracket and lock it in via a screw on the bottom and you're set! If you want to plug in your original door bell like I did, just get any thin wire and attach the additional wire to the back of this unit and run the wire to your old door bell. Should work just fine. Since this works off of low voltage wiring, it's also nice that you don't have to mess around with fuses and such at your fuse box during installation.

Nikon COOLPIX S9300 16 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 18x Zoom NIKKOR ED Glass Lens and Full HD 1080p

Nikon COOLPIX S9300 16 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 18x Zoom NIKKOR ED Glass Lens and Full HD 1080p VideoI'm sure I either have a bad copy...or some of the reviewing users here haven't put it through it's paces.

My problems:

1. S9300 will not lock focus when zoomed at or near it's maximum.

2. Selecting one of the Auto ISO ranges...125-800 ISO causes the camera to select very low shutter speeds, so that even with vibration reduction, if you are shooting people, the imgages are soft...appearing OOF...out of focus. (Unacceptable for this price range.)

3. The facial recognition feature, if used on anything but faces...will most often select something other than what you want to focus on...and since this is a menu driven feature, if you're switching between sceens, like at a birthday party, it's a pain to use.

4. Generally speaking, the images leave a lot to be desired across the board. And, this is the general consensus of online reviews...rating the camera a "C" as very average. I have to agree.

5. Portrait mode is way too cool...and there is no way to adjust the color temp in any mode except Auto. Or from the menu when in Auto...again, for the price, this is unacceptable.

6. And this is a biggie...I have lost confidence in the camera's ability to capture the shots that I want.

I tried to like it...I shot over 200 images...and very few were keepers. I had a Canon Elf S600...and it took better images than this model...and the Canon S600 is 4 years old.

I have called Nikon and asked for an RMA and am returning S9300 for a refund. Bottom line, for $349.00, this camera is a poor to average performer...yeilding good to mediocre images.

I don't disagree that if you are outside in bright light that it takes pretty good images...but, still not up to my expectations for the price tag.

I cannot in good conscience recommend this camera to friends or anyone else.

Like I said in my opening statement...I may have a bad copy. These are just my findings on the copy that I received...

Not a happy camper here...

UPDATE: Going on vacation soon and wanted a better point and shoot. Purchased the Nikon P7700 compact point and shoot. I am thrilled to say that this is more like what I was looking for when I bought the S9300. There are lots of external controls...more is better...such as a thumb wheel to adjust your exposure on the fly...way cool.

Image quality is first rate at this price point($399.00.) It is bigger than the S9300 and doesn't have the zoom range...but it does zoom optically to the equivalent of 200mm. Nice.

Just check out the P7700 here at Amazon...you won't be sorry.

I see Nikon has yanked the S9300 and replaced it with an S9500...so, reviews weren't wrong...to bad for current S9300 owners. I wonder if Nikon will be offering a discount on the new S9500, if you send in your S9300.

Bought this camera since i lost my canon powershot sd900. I only buy canon products but since nikon has been advertising the heck out of their products i thought i give it a chance. Overall this camera takes awesome photos. The in camera features are great as well. My only problem is that in order to review your photos you have to turn on the camera you just can't press the review button. When you do take a photo it takes forever for the preview to disappear. You can either have it on or off. With canon it gave you the option of 1,2 or 3 second preview. The last thing is that the flash is in an awkward place but as i was looking at the canon website every company is going to that format. I would recommend this camera to someone though.

Rcubed.

Being a happy user of Nikon dSLR's and also my camera of choice for most stuff, there are still certain benefits in a good compact. My last compact being an olympus, which was a very disappointing experience. All the nikons I have owned in the past have always had a good build quality so that's what swung it for this one. When I purchased this camera it was brand new to the market so there was limited reviews but mostly positive. The Lumix zs20 nearly got my money as it is also a fantastic compact with similar spec but i'm a sucker for the nikon brand so I took the plunge. First impressions were that it is smaller then I expected, which is a good thing to me as that is the point of a compact right. The build quality seems good as do the ergonomics. Have taken a few hundred shots with it and am very impressed. Low light shots are particularly good with very low noise. The 18 x zoom is silent, quick and very smooth with decent optics, my only complaint being that at the maximum reaches and the camera being so small it is hard to hold steady enough for a sharp image but that is probably the issue on any small camera with a long lens. Great glove box or travel camera that can be recharged from anything with a USB. Very pleased with it so far.

I bought this camera to use as a point and shoot camera when I didn't want to carry my SLR. Given that I have been so happy with my Nikon DSLR purchase, I thought I would by happy with this purchase. The design of the camera is terrible and the flash is located in a terrible place that is very inconvenient. The biggest problem that I have though is the fact that this camera takes mostly blurry pictures. I would think the idea of a point and shoot is that you can grab it out of your bag and just take a picture. I recently took a trip to colorado and took a bunch of pictures only to find that most of them had awful color balance and were extremely blurry. I really couldn't be more disappointed in my purchase and I am going to try and figure out if I can return it.

So I bought this camera 6 months ago and have used it steadily ever since. I've been a photographer for over 40 years and its a good quality device.

There have been no failures and I've had relatively little trouble learning to use it on the fly. (Although I admit I used the instruction manual once!) I've used the camera in below zero conditions in the snow, backpacking, in low light, in the rain as well as in bright sunlight. It performs excellently in all conditions, giving good crisp and clear photos. Of course, this means that you've actually taken the time to compose the shot ahead of time. No camera will compensate for poor set up. It has never froze, or given me an error message.

As with any new camera there are some things you have to learn to do differently. I've adjusted to the fact that the flash pops up under where I usually put my left index finger and never think about it.

I'd recommend the camera as a good all around camera.

Nikon COOLPIX S4100 14 MP Digital Camera with 5x NIKKOR Wide-Angle Optical Zoom Lens and 3-Inch Tou

Nikon COOLPIX S4100 14 MP Digital Camera with 5x NIKKOR Wide-Angle Optical Zoom Lens and 3-Inch Touch-Panel LCDI purchased this camera as a replacement while on vacation. After less than a month it would not charge. When I contacted customer support I was told I needed a new battery because most likely I had overcharged the camera and should not leave it charging more that 2 hours. I purchased a new battery and it worked ok for 2 months. I removed the memory card to upload photos to my computer and now the Nikon S4100 won't power up again. Not work the trouble to get yet another battery. The Casio Exilm I lost was much, much better.

I have been really happy with this camera. The first one I ordered stopped charging correctly after the first day, but I was able to send it back for a replacement, and my new one has been working great. Sure, the night pictures aren't the best, but you're not going to find much better in a camera in this price range.

The camera turns on very fast which I like, however if you're using flash sometimes you have to wait a bit before you can take the next picture. I also had some trouble with blurry pictures at first, but I discovered the non-hand shake mode and once it was turned on my camera took great pictures.

I really like the simplicity of the buttons, especially the video record button. While it takes a couple seconds to actually start recording, it's fun to just be able to hit the record button to start a video. Some people had problems with the touch screen, but I think it works great. My phone is also a touch screen so I may just be used to how to use them, but I think it is very responsive. Plus, I think the plum color of the actual camera looks really good.

While the camera does have a few time-to-shoot issues (which is why I give it a 4 and not a 5), all in all, I think it's a great, fun camera for this price range.

I love my new camera! I haven't finished reading the user manual because it has so many features. I went to Universal Orlando and everyone was impressed with not only how easy it was to use the camera but how beautiful the colors were. The zoom feature is great. The best part is how large the screen is. It is so slim and I love the stylus that comes with the camera so you can see your pics. The only problem I had was that I didn't purchase a memory card so after 4 pics, I had no memory left and had to purchase a memory card at the park (ouch at the price!!) I would highly recommend this camera to everyone who is looking for an affordable yet high quality, beautiful pics!!

I bought the S4100 3 weeks ago to take on a vacation to europe. It looked small and had a touch screen and the picture quality was ok. I wasn't looking for anything special.

Out of the box the touchscreen seemed unresponsive but once again not a deal breaker. I had a small camera with a solid zoom and decent MegaPixel quality

However, I stand here 3 weeks and day later in Rome with a useless hunk of junk.

First it started with the lens errors. Then the battery became exhausted even though it was showing that I had a full battery. I took pristine care of this camera and made sure that I never charged it too long or let it drop anywhere.

Now the battery won't charge and the camera won't turn on. Absolute lemon and if you don't believe me read through some of these other reviews and you will notice a theme.

Save yourself the time and trouble.

This a nice camera, however I think the Touch screen does not work like it should. It doesn't sense the the touch of finger as well as it should although the camer does take good pictures and the touch screen settings takes a little while to get used to.

Sony DSCP72 Cyber-shot 3.2MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom

Sony DSCP72 Cyber-shot 3.2MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical ZoomI have always put off getting a digital camera because I did not have much faith in the current "at home" printing technology. But I changed my mind when I discovered I can have digital pictures printed profesionally. I bought the Sony DSC-P72 in August this year and have not regretted my decision. This is my first digital camera. I like that it takes clear and crisp pictures. It's flash and AF illuminator are powerful. Allows some manual control over the settings to give help me get better pictures. Menus are very user-friendly. It took me only less than 2 hours to figure them out. I also like the rechargeable batteries that came with it. But if you're planning to go on trips better have an extra pair or two ready. It also takes normal AA batteries. Only two things I didn't like, the measly 16MB memory stick and the "slow" battery charger. Get a 256MB memory stick and you're on your way to taking tons of pictures and a (fast) travel charger. For those who are complaining that the camera cannot take multiple shots in quick succession, read the camera's instruction manual again. You can either shoot in clip motion, multi-burst mode, or burst mode. However, the picture quality will suffer if you use one of these modes. Better shoot with a film camera since we all know that as of now, film cameras are still faster than digital. Overall, I like this camera and I'm glad that I got this one as my first.

Pro's

1. Has all the desirable features like video out, only 2 AA batteries, decent movies w/sound etc.

2. Nice build quality, the battery compartment door is the best I have seen so far.

3. Bundled rechargeable batteries and 4hr world charger are excellent.

4. Smart Zoom is useful feature and works much better than digital zoom on other cameras.

5. Fast shooting time (with option to take a burst of 2 pics), if you turn flash off.

6. The lens retracts itself when you are in view mode for a while, very sensible feature to protect the lens.

7. Very good battery life inspite of bright LCD.

Con's

1. Not really pocketable, thick/bulky/long. Included errata says the correct thickness is 37mm. Sony P8 or Nikon 2100/3100 or Canon S200 are smaller in size.

2. Only a superfine 1.5MB size available in auto mode for 3MP images.

3. Proprietary MS/MS Pro is 2 to 5 times cost of CF cards. And still can't be used even in many Sony devices which need MS MagicGate or MS Duo version.

4. White balance and colors for indoor/flash pics are bad.

5. Very less control over what camera will shoot. No action mode for fast shutter. Most flash or low light pics are blurry because camera chooses 1/40 sec or slower shutter speed.

6. Lens is noisy and a bit slow to startup/zoom/shutdown.

7. Colors are very saturated and many pictures are not crisp.

If lens was brighter and took low light/flash pictures better it would have been a superb camera. Every digital camera has its limitations, choose the one you like the best and enjoy!

Buy Sony DSCP72 Cyber-shot 3.2MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom Now

I bought the camera 2 months ago, never failled. It takes very good pictures, good quality, EXEPT at night

CONS:

1 the shots come up blury and with a low definition. I actually couldn't recognize myself in a picture that was taken at night.

2 The memory stick that is included doesn't have much storage room (about 10 pics in 3.2 mp)

3 Zoom is not that great.

4 In pictures taken with flash, takes to long to reactivate for use again. AND the long time between the pressing of the botton and the actual picture being took makes the "moment" you want to preserve not possible.

5 I don't like the software that's included, but is user friendly and VERY easy to use

PROS:

1 Very good quality pictures (with daylight)

2 Very easy to use

3 battery life is amazing

4 High conectivity PC (UBS) or TV (very easy to do so)

I would recomend to buy this camera if you are not professional, 3.2 is MORE than enough for the size of pictures you would need-

After searching for months and reading many reports I purchased the Sony DSC-P72. The camera was a snap to use for this first time digital owner. Menu is excellent, focus does a terrific job, and the download to my computer was instint. Picture quality after I enlarged to 12 by 14 was superb. Sony supplies you with ni-mh batteries and charger, plus can use regular AA batteries. With Optical zoom, 3.2 megapixels, charger the $329.00 was normal but with sony quality. Memory stick media is getting cheap too, I purchased 128 m for $40.00 and 256 is available. I don't need more functions or 4 or 5 meg after using this camera!

I also compared with our Canon A-70 to her Sony P-72 and I still love my A-70 though. Her P-72 was the same price and takes great shots as well. It just lacks manual aperature control and shutter control against the A70's ability to do so. However, the P-72 takes sweet shots too for the person who just wants the camera to do all of the work. Sony is top quality as well. But hey, this is a camera, not a camcorder! What are you waiting for? Get it now!

Want Sony DSCP72 Cyber-shot 3.2MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom Discount?

I bought this camerata yesterday on the strength of the other customer reviews here, but today it went back to the store. My picture files had lots of pixels, but mediocre contrast and only so-so sharpness. I have owned both a Fuji Finepix 2400 and 2800, and both of these cameras took much sharper pictures than this Sony. My guess is that the culprit in the Sony camera is the lens -all the electronics seemed to work OK.

Update, May 17

Since writing the above I have purchased a Canon A70, which is comparable in size and price to this Sony...with the same number of megapixels.

The Canon gives the photographer a lot more potential control, including, if one wishes, the ability to set f stops and shutter speeds manually. Most important, the lens is much better than the Sony's, and my pictures are much sharper, with excellent definition and contrast. So in my opinion the Canon A70 is a much better value.

SANOXY® Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Female Adapter Cable for Apple Macbook, Macbook Pro...
  • Support Mini DisplayPort input and HDMI output
  • Support HDMI highest video resolution 1080p
  • pport HDMI 12bit per channel (36bit all channel) deep color
  • Compatible with MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air with Mini DisplayPort Connection

Bought this worried that the audio would not work, and I can confirm that sound and video both works with this adapter. I am using the latest Macbook Pro 13 with Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz, the mid 2010, model MC374LL/A. Once connected, the macbook will auto detect your tv and will show both monitors. Just go to system preference, sound, output, and select your TV as the output for the sound. You will then have audio and video on your TV. You could also mirror the screen to the TV and assign the video output for the TV to 1080p, under system preference, displays.

Working great so far!

First of all beware buyers, do not buy from the seller ELMENOS if you want a Mini DisplayPort with HDMI with working video AND AUDIO support, I have read all the negative reviews where people said they are not getting audio from their TVs and such. It is because ELMENOS, one out of the several sellers, are selling the Mini DisplayPorts with no AUDIO support. I was; however, lucky enough to order from BargainCell which sent the correct Mini DisplayPort to HDMI that is displayed in the picture. However, my friend who I referred to buy this adapter also bought this item from ELMENOS and they sent him a different adapter than what was displayed in the picture. When he emailed ELMENOS, the seller told him he bought the wrong item, and it does not come with audio support and referred him to a more expensive Mini DisplayPort. All in all I am very happy with my purchase from BargainCell which provided me with AUDIO and VIDEO on my 2010 Macbook Pro; however, my friend is not. It seems that there are many sellers for the same item and when I sent my friend the link to the item I purchased, Amazon randomly shuffles the seller who are listed as selling the same product when it is now obvious that they are not..

Bottomline: BargainCell has the Mini Displayport with Audio Support and ELMENOS does not because they send you a different item then on the picture displayed.

Unfortunately if your macbook pro was purchased before the summer of 2010 then this adapter will not carry an audio signal to the HDMI cable that you plug into it. That is easily remedied by purchasing a mini-toslink to toslink cable or adapter and running two cords.

I have this running from my Late 2008 Macbook pro to my Pioneer VSX-1020-K then to my LG 42LH90 and it looks amazing. I will probably braid together a 15ft HDMI cable, a 15ft TOSLINK cable, and a 15ft network cable to use when I want to hook the Mac up to the big screen.

I know it was really cheap, but it wasn't even worth it. worked about 3 or 4 times and then just gave out. I was extra careful with it and yet it just stopped working all of a sudden.

I went through all kinds of trials & tribulations trying to find the correct cables / adapters for my new 17" Aluminum Unibody MacBook Pro: MacBook 17-inch 2.53GHz which I also purchased through Amazon a couple of weeks ago along with a MiniDisplay Port to HDMI cable: Mini DisplayPort Male to HDMI Male 32AWG Cable 15ft . While this cable worked great for video, the audio continued to play through the Mac's speakers. I had several posts going in different discussion groups trying to figure out exactly what I needed to enable audio along w/video output through the MiniDisplay Port. Long story short, after a lot of research I figured out myself exactly what standards and specifications were needed to accomplish this; mainly VESA 1.1a for the adapter & HDMI 1.3b. Obviously, the Mac needs to be able to support audio passthrough via the MiniDisplay Port, which is easy to figure out in the System Profiler.

Anyway, I was going to purchase another brand for 35 dollars, but after the price was raised I looked into this one & it seemed to me that there was no reason that it shouldn't work. Plus it was under 5 bucks! I also bought a 25' HDMI cable for under 20 dollars. I finally got the adapter today; I had received the HDMI cable a few days ago. After unpacking, it took me under 3 minutes to connect everything, change a setting or two and presto: I had my Mac's video & sound going through my HDTV & Audio systemI have 1080p on my 42" Sanyo LCD w/Dolby Digital and everything looks & sounds amazing.

I obviously can't speak to the longevity of the adapter as of yet, I just hooked it up a few hours ago, but so far so good. It looks a little... well, like it costs about 5 bucks. Not exactly cheap or anything, but from what I can see of it, I gave it a 3/5 for construction. It's made by CE-Link according to the Details page & I ordered mine from Eforcity. Plus, if it did happen to give out, I could actually buy 7 more of them for the same price as 1 of the other brand. Not that you can tell much from pictures, but the 2 brands look almost exactly the same, although the Moshi brand does look a bit more solidly put together. But again, that's just from the pics. The other brand "Moshi" is the one sold at the Apple Store, just in the interest of full disclosure.

Bottom line: in my humble opinion, if you need one of these adapters (PLEASE make sure your Mac supports Audio through the MiniDisplay Port first!), save yourself some cash & buy this one! I hope this review helps someone out!

Swann SW211-DSC Do It Yourself DIY Security Camera

Swann SW211-DSC Do It Yourself DIY Security CameraI recently upgraded all my cameras in my business to these (I previously had the Swann B&Ws which lasted without problems for 6 years). An excellent color camera for this price range much better picture quality than many of the others (Q-see!) of similar cost.

It is very small and discreet and my B&W Swanns were very reliable for a long time. Very easy to connect and produces a very good quality picture. Only issues (1) definitely needs a lighted area don't try in darkened areas (2) not a real wide angle on the lens(although changeable lenses are available like the wide angle and the fisheye though not cheap!) (3) audio mic is not great.

Still a very good camera for the price. A reasonable quality option for home and small business.

This camera is useless unless you are right in front of it and even then the picture is just mediocre. Definitely not usable for security purposes.

Our business had an old security camera in one location that just wasn't cutting it. I was looking for a cheap alternative to expensive replacements from our national supplier. I came across this unit from a known company in the security camera business, and for the price, I figured, it's gotta be better than what we've got, I can't even tell who's on the camera now. I got this unit hooked up and the resolution's as good as the ones our security company set us up with that cost more than four times as much. The other managers are stunned as well. Everyone wants to grab one of these for their homes. It's great when you can find a quality product for a reasonable price that does exactly what it's supposed to. You just can't go wrong with this one.

You are paying for a small size not picture quality. It works ok. I am using it to backup a larger camera

This product works great. It has a good picture with good sound. It is also very reliable. I have used other such cameras and they usually do not have such a good picture and sound.
