Now some folks may be upset with not having dual SD slots. Lets think about this: On a 32GB card you have over 2 hours of video.. The standard battery that is supplied won't even last that long. You can get a 128GB card as well, now that's 8 hours!

I am extremely satisfied with the 24 Mbps video it captures and all the goodies in this kit fit the bill immediately. I even enjoyed the mini tripod where I can use it on the fly if I forgot my main tripod.

The lens set doesn't fit just right with it zoomed out, you see the ring in the video, both the telephoto and wide angle.

Sharp VL-AH60U Hi8 Camcorder

i upgraded from 8 to hi-8. this camcorder is really easy to use and transfer to vhs tape. editing is a snap and alot of fun to do. i'm paralized from the waist down and i created a couple of movies from my perspective ( i fastened my vl-ha60u camcorder on my shoulder ) and just filmed my goings on. all my family / friends thought it was pretty cool! everyone i've played a recording for were suprised at the quality of the film. i use the vhs tapes that you get 5 for 4.99, so you don't have to pour out alot of monies just to operate it. i have only 2 gripes about this camcorder...#1needs a better lens cap...mine pops off every time, always before i'm ready to shoot! #2the gadget bag that comes with it is a piece of junk! they shouldn't even bother to send it. by sending along such a cheap/chintzy/crummy gadget bag, it's like Sharp condones shoddy, cheap, even "ugly" craftsmanship. neither of my gripes reflect on the main issue...the high quality and performence of this camcorder. i give it 4 1/2 stars with-out hesitation!.....ENJOY!

The best thing about the VLAH 60U is that you don't have to worry: the lighting doesn't matter, the acoustics don't matter, the person shooting the scene doesn't matter. It always seems to come out great.

We had a christening, and my mother in law came from Lithuania to be part of it. She speaks virtually no English, and my Lithuanian could be called pathetic. I gave her the camera, and with a few gestures and a minimum of words, she was able to get some great shots, despite the fact that the church was dark and the PA system sucked....That is good in a family camera.

The only problem is that ..., and it has no remote or in camera charger. Those two things are very desirable and would make it even better. I'm hoping to find both someday.

I have been doing lots of amateur photography and occasionally have a need for all kinds of angles. The design of this camera allows you to set it on the floor and have a stable picture. That one quailty has endeared me to this model. Earlier models had the flaws of only being able to sense the remote control from front or back, and the battery did not recharge internally. This model allows remote control whether you are in front of or behind the camera for start/stop and adjusting wide/narrow focus. The only knocks I have on this camera are the lack of a light, for poor lighting, and durability (repair) issues. I have gone through two of these models, but will always try to own at least one, as long as I can find them...even though I also have other more advanced cameras with independent light sources and low maintenace/repair issues.

For an artist, it is all about getting the right shot.

Optoma PRO350W, 2800 lumen, XGA, DLP Multimedia Projector

long story short, I had it for a month and it broke. By itself I wouldn't consider that an issue products are sometimes faulty. It happens. But over a week after receiving the RMA'd projector, Optoma now tells me it will be another 3 weeks (they "hope") before they can get the parts to fix it.

It's unfortunate, especially considering that this projector really is awesome I loved it while I had it. And as I said, I don't consider it a fatal flaw that it broke; that's why we have warranties. But if the company is going to spend a month repairing a nearly brand new projector rather than just replacing it, that's what I consider terrible support.

I have this projector in a bright living room adjacent to our sunroom which lets in tons of sunlight. I can still run this projector and get a very nice picture in the middle of the day. It has the expected DLP "pop" to it and is surprisingly sharp for a 720p model. I actually have a newer 1080p LCD projector that cost twice as much and I still go back and forth trying to decide which one I like best. I am running this projector on a grey 106" screen from about 12 feet back. I did have to put some work in trying to get the picture to fit the screen correctly as there is no offset (as with all but the most expensive DLP units). I've got a HTPC hooked up to watch 3D blu-ray and I can tell you if you like 3D in the theater you will LOVE it on this projector! The only star I can take off is for the price. You can actually get a newer model Optoma for less. However, if you can find one of these (possibly refurbished) at a deep discount don't hesitate to pick one up!

Ive had this Projector since March this year, and I have been loving it ever since, It has superb picture/color quality, and where I have it positioned I have a ~100" screen. The great thing about this projector is that it is "future proof", meaning it wont become obsolete in 2 months, it comes with a built in HDMI port, and it supports full 1080p. Also for computers that are connected to it, it supports all resolutions up to 1920x1080. It has 2 audio ports, one in, the other out, I have my cable reciever plugged into the HDMI port, and because HDMI also has the audio channel, I connected a 3.5mm jack cable from the projector to a 5.1 home theatre system, and the audio quality is superb, no static or interference. It comes with a standard AV video output for all devices/consoles ect. without an HDMI or VGA connection. It doesnt, however, have the composite input(red blue green video, white and red audio). I also have my computer connected via VGA cable, and the picture again is awesome, where I am sitting(about 10-11 feet from the screen)I cannot see the individual pixels on the wall, the lamp lasts about 4000 hours, if set on standard brightness mode, or 3000 on bright mode. I set it on standard and the picture is still superb. It comes with a sleep timer built in, also a security passcode feature, letting you set a 4 digit code that you have to input when you turn the unit on. As far as sound goes, I sit right below the unit(I have it mounted on the wall with a universal mount) and I don't hear a thing. The only problem that I have is that since the unit is not being manufactured anymore, I had to contact Optoma directly because all of the "authorized dealers" did not carry a replacement lamp, after 4 months of using it almost every day, I am up to 965 hours, so about 1000 hours, every 4 months, the lamp should last about a year. I was able to find a replacement lamp directly from Optoma for about $180, not to bad considering how good the projector is and how long the lamp lasts. Overall this projector is very good quality, I havent had anything break or had to have it repaired. I would definitely recommend this projector to anyone who is a first timer like I am but perhaps also for people who have had other projectors as well. The price for this, $700, is by-far the best price I have seen for this, when I purchased it from Best Buy back in march it was going for $999. $700 for a projector this good is the best its going to get, so I definitely recommend you by this if you are considering it.

This is my first video projector and it has met my expectations. I am using it for a home theater and have only connected it to a computer for testing. I have it set up across the room to project a 10-foot wide image on a wall painted with regular white paint. With the bulb on the lower setting, the image is still bright. The focus makes a sharp picture, limited only by the projector's native resolution. If you walk up to the wall (or screen), you will see the pixels, nice and sharp. (Because of its oddball "16:10" aspect, watching 16:9 material will give you 720 pixels high, though its true vertical resolution is 800. If you watch 4:3 material, you can use the full 800 and waste some horizontal resolution instead. It's a compromise that ensures the corners of the image area will rarely be used.) It is possible to max out the saturation and brightness settings, but if this happens, you can just turn them down. I don't have a point of comparison for the color and contrast, but I am satisfied.

Now here are all the limitations you should be aware of. None of them keep me from recommending the projector, but you should take these things into account.

The projector is inconsistent when faced with an interlaced video signal. Sometimes it seems to attempt a reverse pulldown or bob deinterlace. Often it does nothing and combing is visible. There is no manual override for this. The best bet is to adjust the settings on the device creating the signal. Most Blu-ray players, DVD players, and cable boxes have settings to choose the output format. If you're watching VHS, you may be out of luck.

Component video can be connected, but a component-to-VGA adapter is needed. These are not easy to find in stores, so plan ahead and order online if you want this. HD15 (VGA) Male to RCA x 3 Female, D / Shield, (HD15 to Component Video) Adaptor, 1 ft -Not For Computer Use If you plan on connecting a Wii, you want this, since the Wii will only give you an interlaced signal over composite.

Consider the 1/8-inch mini audio in and out jacks as a utility convenience only. I tried all kinds of configurations with different cables and adapters. Even when I only routed the audio signal through the projector, it ruined the sound, making it painfully tinny. Connect your audio to a separate sound system if at all possible.

This projector is advertised as being capable of "PC 3d." If you want to watch 3d Blu-rays, you can, but you need to pay a bit extra to get a signal converter box. I purchased the View Sonic 3D HD Video Processor (VP3D1), and confirm that it works together with this projector and a 3d-capable Blu-ray player.

The image quality esp the color is quite good. I'm pretty picky about this, and found I had very few adjustments to make right out of the box. The size and portability are a plus. I'd seen this brand recommended on a reliable 16mm film collectors' forum.

Sony Cybershot DSCT33 5.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Includes Docking Station)

I own the DSC-F828 (8 megapixel) Sony...and do a lot of varied work, usually taking it everywhere. But it's a bit slow out of the bag sometimes, for a simple snapshot. Therefore I purchased this camera (the T-3 Euro version) as an adjunct to the big brother.

Frankly, 5 Megapixel appears a bit less sharp now that I'm used to 8 Megapixel ....and the lens CAN be a tiny bit soft focus in low light. Yes, there's relativly few manual adjustments, too.

Flash is not bad, works well as a fill in sunlight, a bit harsh indoors. But then I shot a lot of no-flash, as slow as an 1/8, handheld. It works well. Nice colors, too,

However, this little devil powers up FAST as I draw it from the Sony leather belt holster. Red Eye reduction, 3x zoom, *HUGE* view screen (really impressive for showing off to your friends what you just shot...), neat carry strap.

This thing is really HANDY....not as your ONLY camera but as the all-day, EVERY-DAY camera. It fits on your belt in as little space as a cell phone with the abilty to shoot all day long....

I bought a travel charger & spare battery (these can charge while I shoot), extra memory (came with a 32mb I bought a 128, then a 256. You buy a 512.), and the nice Sony leather belt case. Look for a USB memory stick reader, like the wonderful SanDisk MobileMate MS (the size, literally, of a USB flash drive, i.e. keyring-able), and you're ready.

You can afford this. Think about it. Super small, excellent quality, out of the way...but ALWAYS there. Get it. Or, let me put it another way, "Can you afford less?".

PS What I REALLY like about this camera is that my big 828 scares the pants off my subjects because it's seen (to them) as "professional", yet no one runs away when I pull this little guy out. You can see the differences in their attitude right away.

I get more intimate pictures, with minimal quality loss, using this camera far more frequently, now, than the 828.

I bought this camera about a month ago and have been truly impressed. I know a bit about digital cameras having owned a few over the years and this camera presses all the right buttons for me. The camera is small, about the size and weight of a pack of playing cards, smaller even. The styling is great and the build quality is top notch. The camera has many features normally found on larger format cameras. The video quality is superb and nearly does away with the need for a camcorder for those holiday videos, works best out doors and in daylight. There is no set limit to video length except for the capacity of the memory card. A 1 Gig card holds about 13min of highest quality video, long enough for any take I can think of. The general picture quality is very good for a compact and the prints I've made to A4 paper are spot on. It is fast to start up and "reload". The LCD screen quality is the best I've seen on a compact. The macro/magnifying mode is a revelation, allowing for some "microscope" type close-ups. The interface is intuitive and user friendly. In conclusion this camera is perfect for the average user who needs a highly portable quality digital camera. Recommended upgrade would be a 512mb or 1Gig memory card for that high quality video.

We purchased this camera as a replacement for our bulky Sony DSC-P52, which stopped working after year or so due to a problem with the lens mechanism. Naturally, only time will tell if this is any different, but in the meantime, here's what you need to know about this baby:

The Good:

1) Size and weight Fits almost comfortably in any pocket. Much thinner and lighter than any previous digital camera I've owned, thus encourages one to carry it most anywhere. The size is also pretty comfortable for one-hand shooting.

2) Big LCD screen You didn't need me to tell you this, right? Makes previewing images and taking shots much more satisfying, though sometimes it does not appear very clear, especially if the subject is not static. However, it is bright and rich in color.

3) InfoLithium This is Sony's name for a battery that tells you how much time it has left only approximately, of course. If use is consistent, will provide you with a good idea. If you use one function then another then another, it tends to vary much more and is not as useful.

4) Integrated charger/USB station A flimsy plastic cradle takes care of charging the on-board battery as well as providing a USB hookup for downloading images and video into the computer. Minimizes wires and removes the need for a separate charger, though the bright white color is far from a match.

The Bad:

1) Focusing problems The camera cannot focus on objects that are relatively close to it. I am not speaking about macros, but simply the function or lack thereof to focus on small, near objects, such as coins, stamps, or text. Quick focus on objects farther away, though.

2) Integrated Battery I listed the InfoLithium as a positive, but the fact that you cannot just pop-in a couple of AA batteries means you will always need the station or the plug to charge up if you need some juice. I don't know if the battery is universal, but even if it is, it will cost substantially more to purchase a replacement.

3) Incompatible Memory Sticks I will not complain about Sony's desire to make consumers pay more for its cards than adopting a standard, but this camera uses the MemoryStick Duo, which is about 1/4 or so smaller than the "regular" MemoryStick. This means that the hundreds you may have invested in memory cards for previous Sony digital cameras are pretty useless, as they do not fit into this or any other device using the smaller cards.

4) Ineffective Flash The flash is tiny, thus does not provide adequate illumination in the dark. Within a few feet is okay, but farther subjects are not touched.

5) 3x Optical Zoom C'mon, this is 2005! 3x optical zoom is pretty pathetic for such an expensive camera.

6) Slow Write Speed There is a decent pause between pictures, meaning you not be able to shoot at a rapid rate. You can certainly take pictures in bursts, but it takes even longer to write to the memory stick. Previewing the images is also slow. This is also disappointing, as it's not faster than my older P52.

7) No Tripod Hookup If you wish to use a tripod, you have to mount the camera on the plastic station, then connect the tripod to the plastic dock. This is far from ideal.

Well, there you have it. The negatives I listed may be insignificant for you, in which case this could be a great value for you. I am certainly happy with it, but I only wish Sony would stop treating its customers like cash cows with changing standards, compatibilities, and dubious long-term quality.

This is a great camera for travel and everyday events because of its small and convenient size. We bought it to replace our bulkier Sony DSC-F707. The large screen is wonderful! The video feature is a lot of fun but due to the small size it is hard to take a steady video. The battery meter is very useful as it tells you how much time you have left. The main downside with this camera is the flash. It doesn't work well in very dark conditions for distant or even slightly distant shots. If it weren't for the flash, I would have given this a rating of 5 stars. This is overall a good camera.

For more serious digital photography, we prefer to use the Sony DSC-F707 as it has a better flash and zoom. However, it is too bulky to carry around.

We were early digital camera adopters so this model is now our 5th or 6th camera. A requirement for us when we buy a digital camera is the availabilty of an underwater housing since we use these camera during scuba trips. We have a larger Sony DSC-F707 with an Amphibico housing which does a great job for us but requires a crate when we take it diving. This camera was purchased with the Sony brand underwater housing which is tiny and neatly organized so the entire package and is very compact to travel with. Sony has made some significant improvements in their underwater housings since the first generation including double o-rings and ability to support the deepest recreational dives. Camera and housing fit in a tiny backpack and easily goes under an airplane seat. For serious underwater photography you will require heaps of external light and I'm not a fan of Sony's underwater lighting solution but other choices exist.

My favorite things about the camera are the large 2.5" screen which allows me to easily see which shots I want to keep. The small, thin and light size also makes it easy to use. The big selling feature for me was a 640x480 30 fps mpeg movie capability so we can email clips that people can actually see. The docking station makes sure it is always charged and ready. I've been very pleased with the battery life. As far as "cons" go there are few. I would like to see a better flash (which seems to be the case with most digital cameras) and more than the 3x optical zoom. Again, a larger zoom seems improbable in a camera this size. On land, the unit is a bit inconvenient to use with a tripod since it must be in the docking station to mount. I consider all of these to be minor since my primary goal was to have a small underwater-capable camera that would do 640x480 mpegs and bright 5.1mp shots. For me, Sony met those goals in a small form factor and at an attractive price.

Even due I am not very good at this, but I will give my opinion about this camcorder. Let me tell you first before I even begin. money very well spend. It's worth it.

Now let me tell you if you are a die hard, deep driver, hardcore outdoor person who is into hiking and cave crawling, let's move on to something else that will hold up your adventures, but if you are kind of married and have kids and got tired of having a camera and being fearful around the water which will destroy your camera, and living on zero disposable income, here is it. You got yourself a great deal. With around $130.00 you got the best camera/camcorder that money can buy.

Now let's begin with this: it is digital camcorder, meaning you need "light". It's not designed for indoor or low light, but for outdoor and lots of light. It's a first time that I got to see my kids diving into pool and how they do and look like from inside the pool, vs having to shoot from the distance zoomed in. The movies came out great with 1080i resolution crystal clear and the Pictures are awesome when they are viewed on our HDTV. Now there is a lots of difference between the pictures that I took inside of the house vs the one I took outside. The inside shots are not so great. But the one with lots of light it came out very good. There are not too many buttons on the camcorder and it's easy to operate. You can even take picture when you're recording video. I had mine in my swimming trunk pocket all the time during our visit to the pool and I beat it in and out the water. No sign of water anywhere inside the camcorder and no fog on the lens either. But I did not cannon ball into the pool with it either. Somehow I think that impact will force the water into the camera.

Bottom line, if you are wants to have your memories with kids/wife/family, documented, then don't let the water stop you, me personally lots a lots of picture for lack of ability to snap a shot in or around the water. I do recommend this little camcorder.

Zooming even at any level makes the entire picture grainy. Any or all pictures taken without the zoom are clear and nice.

PROS : The camera is as waterproof as they come, we took it to a water parks, a wave pool, etc and all the videos and pictures (those without zoom) turned out great.

So, be warned, the video camera is nice, but you need to know its limitations and downsides.

I was concerned that this camcorder would leak after reading some reviews, but I took it snorkeling several times, and I dropped it in muddy water once. It never leaked a drop.

I had a great experience shooting underwater 1080p video of sea turtles in Hawaii. The built-in screen looked a little dark and blurry while I was shooting so I was concerned, but the actual video was bright and focused and looked great.

This is a sport camera so don't expect the highest perfect quality video or stills, but the quality surpassed my expectations. You can take still pictures while recording video as well.

The internal rechargable battery lased all day with heavy use. I charged it every night, but I suspect it could have easily lasted 2 or more days of heavy use. Now that we're back from Hawaii my wife keeps it in her purse and the charge lasts a week with very light use.

The only negative thing I have to say about this camera is that it takes several seconds to wake up when you press the power button. If you need to catch a very quick shot, you may miss it while the camera boots up. Other than that I have nothing bad to say about this neat device.

Just received my new BW10 and went swimming; excellent quality photos and video above and below water. One feature that I appreciated was the ability to take photo shots during video recording. Interestingly those photos are only 2M, rather than the larger 5M photos possible stand-alone.

The book is lacking on some details, and don't imagine you can see the buttons or icons underwater even with goggles (they could have made them large splashy colors so as to know with certainty) thus only 4 stars, but I'm very pleased so far.

Took this camera on a trip to Israel. The camera took pictures for 9 days without a charge, and weeks after. The pictures came out very acceptable for an inexpensive camera with good clear HD. I found the settings should be all set to "on". I am not a camera buff so this worked for me in most kinds of lighting. The choice of still or video was clear and convenient. It is also water proof. I did not buy it for water shots, but is was great in the rain and humid conditions -you have both in Israel during the winter. It came with a 4 gig card cables and pouch. All in all it was a treat to use.

We just got this and it took less than 5 minutes to get it up and running. the picture quality is super clear. we have it setup to look outside and there is a bit of glare on the image since the glass shows a reflection, but its not really a problem for viewing the image. looking forward to seeing what happens in low light....

follow up: night viewing is pretty good. better than i expected. also should note that the images on my phone are about 5-10 seconds delayed from real time. not sure if thats due to a slow wi-fi or the camera, but thought i would mention it in case real-time access is important to someone.

Bought one of these cameras to use with my iPhone. Wanted to use it at home for security purposes.

Took forever to get it to set up with my home wireless network. Like another reviewer, I went through the exact same process many times. Finally on the 10th try, the camera was working. Just seems that the process takes a lot longer than 10 minutes to set up, so be patient.

Once I got the camera up and running through the regular setup process, it added another "instance" of what appeared to be the same camera on the iPhone app, which it then tried to register, and both were somehow deleted. The "register" process seemed to hang a lot. So, I started over. Again. And this time I went through the "Manual Setup" process -three times before it actually worked.

MANUAL SET UP WAS THE KEY!

The help guide that's located on the IZON app isn't the same as the one on their website. Also, the steps are not the same. The online version is far more comprehensive. I find that to be a huge issue with product companies. (Do you really think customers will give your product a great rating if it takes hours of repetitive steps and Googling on the Internet to get it set up?) The suggestion to disconnect your home wireless router was silly because the app will tell you that you need to have an active wireless connection to set up the camera. If the app crashes, it will ask to send a report back to STEM. Each time I got a response back from the STEM Help Desk, it was the exact same set of instructions which were not working. Being the stubborn IT professional that I am...I was sure going to figure this out by myself! And I did.

Once I got the camera up and running, it did exactly what I needed. I can view from my iPhone 5 and iPad while on my home wireless network, and can also view while on 4G or LTE service through AT&T.

I'm probably being very kind by giving 3 stars considering the time it took me to set up and the constant crashing of the iPhone app and "network congestion" errors (is that MY network or is it the Internet?).

Although the IZON iPhone app crashes very often, the iPad app seems to be working better. The camera appears to drop from my wireless network every now and then.

I will provide an update within a month. I can't recommend this product at this point. So THREE STARS it is for now.

this camera takes fine videos but you can not share those videos with anyone. they're locked into the app. WTF!!!!!

This little device is amazing! I used to have a Linksys WVC80N home monitoring camera that was a huge pain. You practically needed to be a sysadmin to figure out how to connect it to your home network. And if you wanted to view it online, you had to purchase web hosting from some three-bit company that Linksys partnered with.

I got the Izon Stem setup on my network in less than 5 minutes. And it runs thru an app on my iphone... I thought for sure they were going to charge me to use the app, but it's entirely free! You can only view the video on the iphone you have it connected to (NO viewing on a desktop), but that's not a problem for me. The app may be a drain on battery life, but I haven't used it enough yet to find out if that's true.

Nikon D3 12.1MP FX Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)

The three major factors that, for me, make this camera (2 of them apply to the D300) so incredible are . . . well, the full frame sensor (finally), the outstanding low-noise/high ISO performance . . . and the extraordinary color! The photographer has a greater deal of control over color than ever before and the results are stunning (use Picture Control). And noise (the digital equivalent of film grain) is at least a 2-stop improvement over the previous D2x. Actually, it's probably 3 stops, but say 2 to be conservative. Believe it or not, ISO 6400 is actually usable! (The D300 is one stop less)

While those features were the most compelling ones in my view, there are plenty of others that are a big plus, such as:

~ 9 frames per second

~ 51 point AF

~ Live View

~ 12mp CMOS sensor, self-cleaning on D300

~ A new 3" LCD--about 4x the resolution as previous LCDs.

The list goes on, but you should read the tech specs and professional reviews. Suffice it to say it is loaded with features and handles like an absolute dream!

Compared to Canon's $8000 professional models, this camera has a very clear advantage. Sure you lose some megapixels compared to the MarkIII, but that's not so important for the majority of (but not all) photographers.

Another thought . . . while this is a good deal at $4999 compared to Canon, you can get almost the same camera for $1799, with the D300. If you don't need a full frame . . . or the extra 1-stop high ISO, the D300 offers about 90 95% of the features and performance of the D3 for 40% of the price! If you want to get the best possible picture quality for the lowest possible price, consider the D300 and put the difference ($3200) on some of Nikon's great new professional lenses.

As of this January 2008 writing, this is listed on Amazon at $6399 through Cameta Camera. PLEASE DON'T buy at this price and allow yourself to be exploited by the backorder situation. Instead, pre-paying $4999 for it at your local camera store puts you ahead of everyone else on the waitlist who merely put down deposits on it. Or wait until it comes down here on Amazon. Again, $4999! That's the price. There is no need to pay an extra $1400 "sucker fee" for it just to have it a few weeks or maybe a month or two earlier. You survived until now without the D3, so you can make it a little longer--just don't pay more than retail. $4999! $4999. $4999. Get the point? :-)

I notice this is now being sold by 17th Street Photo, who I've not done business with, but at least they are charging the *correct* price of $4999. First it was a $1400 markup, then $500, and it's good to see the price gouging attempts appear to be dying down.

How times change--the gouging is gone, and so are the backorders. The price has dropped below $4500 I see. My opinion on this camera remains unchanged in the 11 months since I first got my hands on it, and it's as excellent as it ever was, but now, with the introduction of the D700, I would have a hard time spending the approximately $4300 it now sells for, when the D700 is selling for $2699. The D3 is better built, and shoots 9 fps vs the D700's 8 fps with battery pack, but I don't see it being worth the added $1600 cost unless you're a professional who shoots every day.

I recently sold my Canon 1DS Mark2 and the accompaning 14 mm wide angle lenses because after trying out a Nikon D3 I found the Nikons pictures so much better. True, the Canon software is easier but to me the ergonomics of the D3 are better than the Canon 1DS Mark2 while the detail, clarity and accuracy are still better. Even 24" poster comparisons between both camera's have the Nikon winning in every detail. I am now a proud Nikon owner I think although Canon has more pixels 16.3 versus 12.1 the pictures at large a simply not as good. I perform operative photography and am in the process of finishing a book on Female Reconstructive surgery this is were the comparisons became for my field so much more apparent. The colors for the Nikon are just so much more dynamic and precise while the Canon is not as vibrant and demonstrative of detail. I found for comparisons sake that the Canon videocamcorder XL H1 colors versus the Sony comparable model to again lack color precision, depth of field and to simply to the less experienced eye to lack quality needed for surgeons. So I am now going to start to build a Nikkor lens assortment. By the way I took 20000 with my Canon so I know its downside well under all conditions. The Canon was sturdy and never a problem but its performance is only 80 percent of the Nikon and Nikkor lens

Had it a week, the ability to shoot at ISO 6400 without noise means goodbye to flash. All my old manual Nikon

lenses work better on this camera than they ever did before on ones which shot film. Probably because the camera corrects the mistakes I make.

The colors are also wonderful. I like them vivid, and the D3 delivers. The dynamic lighting which tones down the

highlights and brings out the shadows without messing up to colors is also great.

I would recommend this camera to anyone who has the bucks, otherwise the D300 is nearly as good for less

than half, if you don't mind DX format.

After having used Canon for years (from film based EOS -1 to IDMKII, a 5D, and even a 1D MK III), there is just no comparison! This camera handles like it was designed by a photographer, not a tech. It's easy to do everything you want, and the quality is simply outstanding. If you're debating it don't. Just get one and you'll understand!

It has a TON of incredible features, but here are some of my favs:

I know everyone praises the low light abilities and they are outstanding. I am able to get landscapes that would have been impossible before. I normally had to shoot ISO 100, so a tripod was mandatory. Now I routinely use 400 and even 800! I can get into tight spots and hand-hold now! This feature alone has completely changed the way I do photography!

Another feature that I really like was the smaller AF areas. If you're doing wildlife, it makes it much easier to lock on to your subject when the animal is in heavy brush (you know, like all the time). The Canons would always have a hard time in these situations, the Nikon grabs the focus immediately.

One last feature I'm really excited about is the virtual horizon. It makes keeping the camera level just so much easier. It has two ways of showing it the first is a big display on the back that looks like it's out of a 747 and is kind of useless. The second is to set your function button on the front of the camera for virtual horizon. Just press that in with your pinky while you look through the finder and the exposure meter turns into your virtual horizon. Just get it to "0" and you're level. Much easier to do than it sounds. I always thought My shots were level, but I was really surprised how often I needed a little tilt one way or the other.

The camera has incredible autofocus, a viewfinder so good you can actually manually focus with it if you like, an incredible screen on the back you can use to check focus accurately (impossible with any current Canon, at least by comparison), and so much more. Just a fantastic overall camera.

Yes, it's expensive. Yes it's heavy. Yes, it's unbelievable! If you make your living as a photographer this is the camera for you. You can get a very good image in almost total darkness! The images that you get with this camera are fantastic. If you can't afford the five grand, get the D300, it's almost the same camera at less then half the price. I know I own both, and use both. As great as the D300 is, the D3 is even more so. It's like driving a Mercedes Benz as opposed to a Bentley! If you want all the technical reviews and specs go to the Nikon web site.
