C2G / Cables to Go 40575 TruLink HDMI over Coax Receiver, Black

C2G / Cables to Go 40575 TruLink HDMI over Coax Receiver, BlackProduct functioned as advertised. Took a couple of tries to find the right refresh rate @59Hz. There was nothing in the instructions that told us to check the output rate. Once we got it set up, it's been great to have.

Also, good to note that the ends are BNC and not F-Connectors.

This is a great product! Easy to use and set up, but make sure and pic up some F to BNC connectors from RadioShack. It needs an IR repeater with it...

I have 2 of these. Tried the first one to connect Hdmi from a matrix in the pool house to the main house. That run of cable is over 250ft and it works great. Ordered a second one t feed to the Master bedroomover 300ft. It has a little ghosting on my old CRT TV, but it looks great!

This did not work for me, as the audio would not sync with the video, as well as every 5 or 10 or so seconds I would get a very brief audio dropout. The audio was 3 to 5 seconds out of sync.

Before hooking up everything I tested it with the following set-up:

DirecTV HR-24 DVR

3 foot HDMI cable

C2G Transmitter

6 foot RG-6 cable

C2G Receiver

3 foot HDMI cable

Plasma TV

This hookup is about as simple as it could be. I tried several different HDMI cables and RG-6 cables. I also used it with a second generation Apple TV as the video source with the same results.

I contacted C2G, and they said they had never heard of such a problem, and suggested that I replace the units. I ordered the replacement from Amazon (very easy!), but the replacement has exactly the same problem.

I have an RG-6 cable and a Cat-5e cable going to where the TV that I want to remote from my DirecTV box is located. I really wanted to be able to use RG-6 coax to remote my HDMI connection to my outdoor SkyVue TV, as I wanted to use the Cat 5e cable in the wall where I want the TV to connect it to my Internet service. Too bad.

I guess that was not to be. I am returning the replacement C2G boxes and am going to try the Altona AT-HDTX transmitter and AT HDRX receiver which is the latest Altona HDMI over single Cat-5e system because other, older Altona systems have all positive reviews. I will post a review for the Altona system once I have received and tested it.

Update, May 18, 2013

Instead of trying the Atlona, I bought a set of the Cable Matters HDMI over HDBaseT from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005H4Y6TA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They work perfectly, straight away, over a run of about 150 feet of Cat 5e cable. See my further review on this product's page

2-Pack X10 AirSight Wireless IP Camera, Network Cam Wide Angle Night Vision XX41A

2-Pack X10 AirSight Wireless IP Camera, Network Cam Wide Angle Night Vision XX41AAlthough one of the original cameras was faulty, the vendor quickly replaced it when the bad unit was returned. After installing them and getting assistance from their technical support, we were up and running with no problems.

I needed the help of their IT service to get these configured to connect to my WiFi, but they work well. they take photos when the motion detector is tripped and emails them to you. That is all I use them for. I wish they could handle outdoor service, but they are indoor only cameras. if anyone breaks into the house, it takes 5 pictures of them (per camera) and emails the photos to you (up to 5 email addresses).

So if a burglar breaks in, odds are he will get identified and arrested shortly afterwards. For the money, everyone should have a couple of these. You can also remote dial in to the cameras, but I find it is not worth the hassle, since the subnet mask or whatever keeps changing, so the last IP address doesn't seem to work reliably. I am sure some smarter people know how to fix this, but I am happy with just the email photo feature. If you have a messy house like me, and don't put the cameras in the obvious places, the bad guy will likely never even find the camera to destroy it, and get dozens of photos taken of himself.

Buy 2-Pack X10 AirSight Wireless IP Camera, Network Cam Wide Angle Night Vision XX41A Now

The Camera's work great and can interface with an existing alarm system. I bought it for the motion activation capability, but it fails short. It will only take 5 pictures, one per second. I would prefer a video clip for about a 1 minute (preferably user defined) duration upon activation.

JVC GR-AX760U VHS-C Compact Camcorder

JVC GR-AX760U VHS-C Compact CamcorderBought mine at a university surplus auction a couple of years ago. It is a good camcorder with lots of nice features. You can buy optional remote control on ebay, and control the camcorder basic functions with wireless remote control up to 25 feet away. Uses standard VHS C cassette. Two recording speeds SP and EP for extended recording time.

Snapshot function allows you to capture a digital still shot on tape for 5 seconds. Stabilizer feature allows is an anti jitter technology which helps keep recordings smooth and professional even with shaky hands. Built in battery charging system with charge indicator, charges battery when camcorder is plugged in and turned off.

RCA audio and video outputs allow for connection to TV.

Special effects. Only thing I would change, is the camcorder has a short battery life. Battery only lasts four hours on continuous use before it needs recharging.

Overall compact, light weight, good quality, and ideal as a good travel camcorder.

Canon PowerShot N 12.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 8x Optical Zoom and 28mm Wide-Angle Lens (Black)

Canon PowerShot N 12.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 8x Optical Zoom and 28mm Wide-Angle LensJust received the camera....so far all I can say is that I purchased the white version and it is a gorgeous little camera! BUT please be aware to purchase a microSD card! It doesn't mention this anywhere in the description so I need to get one before I can test out the camera...stay tuned...

Update: May 5, 2013

Camera takes pictures just as good as my Canon S90. Totally different experience though...it is more like my iPhone. Intuitive but requires being open to a camera that handles differently than any before it. The camera is small and subsequently the buttons are small also. Even though the buttons are small they are easy to hit and because of their location, do not get pressed accidentally. The touch screen works very well, only requiring a very light touch. Being able to touch the screen to focus on the area you want to be in focus allows for very quick focus targeting. Also, using the screen to sweep through the pictures is very convenient. The zoom is very quick and the swing out screen is very handy. The creative burst feature has been a favorite of my high school age daughter. She has borrowed the camera quite a few times to take pictures and post them to her social accounts. I found the slow motion video to be a addicting...there are two speeds to choose from...taking slow motion video of my son's golf swing allows us to see everything very clear and in very cool slow motion. I have used it to capture my other children practicing gymnastics, bike riding and trampoline jumping...it gives us all a good laugh. Most importantly, and the reason I bought the camera, is the wireless capability. So far for me it has worked great. If I want to post something or want to send a friend a picture I start up the CameraWindow app on my iPhone and I can view all the pics on the camera. I then select what I want transferred to my iPhone. The transfer has been quick and effortless.

So far I have not explored all the capabilities of the camera but I can say I am very happy with the camera. I have also had positive reaction and have shown the camera to a number of interested people who have seen me while using it public. For the price it has exceeded my expectations.

Update: May 10, 2013

Still enjoying the camera! I want to add some additional thoughts on this camera. I have not altogether replaced my compact point & shoot with this camera. This camera is for someone willing to try something unconventional and is not looking for a replacement for their S95 or G10. It does not have the traditional manual functions of an enthusiasts camera but it has more capabilities than a camera phone (does use a similar sized flash however). The camera is more of a curiosity that lends itself to the fun picture taking. There is a dedicated button that allows you to shoot a quick succession of shots (some randomly of the background and not the subject!) and adds creative filters to them. This is the type of customer that I believe Canon is focused on. My teens love it and get a kick out of it when sometimes a stranger in the background shows up as the main subject of one of the random creative shots. Also, if you do not want to upload your pics via WiFi to your phone then this probably isn't the camera for you. ... Just some thoughts if you are looking for a serious point & shoot camera to replace an old favorite...

So on a lark I bought the Canon Powershot N . It is a nifty piece of technology but a great photographic tool. Its small size and ease of use makes it a perfect pocket camera that you will actually carry in your pocket and take out and use!!. I am a professional photographer in New York and have bought several pocket cameras over the years in the hopes that I will carry and use the thing..Finally I have found that camera. I have not been happier with a pocket camera and use it more often than I thought I would. I have to say the semi articulating screen is a definite plus allowing you to shoot from the hip or even lower. And the any way up allows you to shoot above your head and still view the screen. I would recommend this to any other photographer and even plan to buy a couple more as christmas gifts to family and friends.Canon PowerShot N 12.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 8x Optical Zoom and 28mm Wide-Angle Lens (Black)

Buy Canon PowerShot N 12.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 8x Optical Zoom and 28mm Wide-Angle Lens (Black) Now

I usually shoot with professional grade equipment but there are always times when you want to carry a very small camera for shooting casual pictures. I have tried several over the years but the results were never satisfactory, or the camera was slow and not responsive enough. The PowerShot N is the perfect machine! Its very fast, images are excellent sharpness across the zoom spectrum and low light or odd light images are very good.

You have to spend a little time getting accustomed to handling the camera as it is quite small and the shutter is on the lens ring. However in a very short time it all makes sense. Overall its very simple and intuitive, and the wifi feature is an extra bonus. You don't have to accept smartphone quality pics if you have this camera (which is smaller than a phone). Its also very well built, quality materials and finish, feels good in your hand. Some will be turned off by the price but if you want a really high quality very small camera that can shoot high quality images, this is it!

Marshall V-LCD-MT Monitor Adapter 1/4" Mount Adapter To Video Camcorder Hot Shoe For LCD Monitors

Marshall V-LCD-MT Monitor Adapter 1/4' Mount Adapter To Video Camcorder Hot Shoe For LCD MonitorsI'm using this item with the combo Canon T3i + Zoom H4n.

As suspected before buying it (just had the other reviews to trust), it works!

Not only the adapter is sturdy enough (as far as you could expect for the price) but it fits both the DSLR and the recorder perfectly, and holds them in place quite nicely.

Easy to use and small enough to carry it around with your other equipment.

Now, since a former reviewer seems to have gotten a different item... I got this one from Tie Photo & Electronics and fulfilled by Amazon.

Very good product for my LCD and I just ordered one for my mic! It makes things on a busy set a lot easier to just twist and tilt, literally two easy steps! And for the price of 9 bucks, you just ant beat that! Thanks! I would recommend to a friend!

I bought this for my Canon 60D SLR camera and my Zoom H4n recorder. Even though I probably won't use this set up a lot it's a great way to get my recorder onto my camera when I need to. It adjust the recorder so that the shadow of the recorder isn't on my camera. I think for the price this is not a bad addition to my equipment bag. It is so small and extremely useful tool in my kit. I'm really glad I have it.

This is a great product, a friend had one that he purchased from b&h photo video. amazon has it for few dollars cheaper. This unit is very good and make sure you screw in object and secure tightly. This product is flexible and it has a swivel. The only problem i do not like is the company shipping. takes to long. i prefer b&h photo video for future products. I like fast shipping tired of receiving products at the last shipping day.

SecurityMan Remote Control Pan Base for camera (PANBASE)

SecurityMan Remote Control Pan Base for cameraThis Securityman Pan base had me surprised as it exceeded my expectations, I've owned cheap pan remote controlled bases in the past, this one is better than them by far. I do not own a Securityman camera that the mounting bracket was designed for, but it didn't matter, I used a Uniden UDWC23 Wireless Video Surveillance Accessory Portable Indoor Camera (Black)& I affixed the wireless camera to the Securityman base and it works perfectly. I just bought a new home that has a 77' screened in lanai in the shape of an L and I wanted to be able to watch my cat while at work to make sure he didn't try to escape from the new home. (indoor only cat) I had two options, buy another uniden camera for $100, or buy a pan remote controlled base, I made the right choice as this product worked perfectly for my needs, no more rear of the home blind spots my security cam can't see.

Not to mention, my cat loves his new 77' lanai, my old lanai was 12' long, the Securityman has 370* coverage, I can remotely look at whatever my cat is looking at from my home office. This is a good product well worth the $29 plus shipping

We purchased two of these and have attached them upside down on the corner of the overhang of the roof. Had to drill holes and attach the hanger on the bottom to make it the top. The camera swivels great and reverses great, we can see all of two side of the house and yard for each camera. Biggest problem is the remotes are prone to break. The switch is a small spring and doesn't last long. We have had to buy another unit just to get the remote. Company needs to make the remote better and sell it separate.

THE PAN SYSTEM WOULD NOT WORK. SO I CONNECTED THE POWER SUPPLY THAT CAME WITH THE PAN SYSTEM AND THE CAMERA WOULD NOT WORK WITH OUT LOTS OF LINES AND RAINBOW SPOTS ON THE SCREEN.

I bought this a few years back and forgot to do a write up. I got this to increase security down the side of my house. With having roommates I had a lot of people invited over that could not be trusted...and later they came back to rob me and everytime my system has helped from me getting fully cleared out. (Had my video setup hooked up through a proxy to send picture messages of event triggers of possible break ins)

I loved the fact that it was on a remote so when i heard something outside I could stay put and just look over at the security screen and watch as the camera is panning over the yard and side yard. I had multiple cameras setup but this really helped close all the gaps were there was no coverage.

The one thing I did not like is the casing design. make sure the base sits flat and is not going to get rained on or have water run down the wires and feed into the Pan Base. Every once and a while the camera would stop panning. once I moved and uninstalled it i realized that water ran down the cord and into the housing...which filled up with water and would short everyonce and a while. Still works! just make sure its in a dry location. Oh and the range on the remote is pretty good. I would guess its equal to any 900mhz wireless transmission range.

I used to like it, but this is my 3rd purchase and I am tired of forgiving my purchases. I pay extreme postage, then I wait and wait only to receive the items for them to work for a brief moment, then freezes up on me. Pentax K-r 12.4 MP Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD (Red Body)

Pentax K-r 12.4 MP Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCDI really love it. It is a little smaller then the K10d. So it fits better in my hands. I like that I can assign the RAW button to the green button to one on off push and that it will go off if I wish after one picture, and the positioning is not where I will be hitting it by accident like on the 10 D that was a big problem for me.

The menu is easy to scroll though and pick the items you wish, changing fields is simple.

I think it has better range in focus in lower light and that is wonderful. I take a lot of low natural light pictures. Great!! I have really been enjoying it.

And I love the RED color!!! makes it mine and easy to find if I lay it anywhere.

I recommend it for beginners and hobbiest and enthusiast a like... I feel it even has great features for a Pentax K-r 12.4 MP Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD (Red Body)for a pro on the run.

I learned photography back in highschool using an excellent Pentax K1000 35mm camera. Still have it and use it to this day. When I was ready for a real DSLR camera I did like most people and did my research and narrowed it down to a couple options. I chose the Pentax K-r because of Pentax's reputation for quality, affordable products that are easy to use. It only took me a couple of hours of messing around with this camera and I was shooting great photos that I was proud of and posted them online (which is super easy to do).

I also chose Pentax K-r because I did NOT want only a black color option. The K-r's come several different color options. I fell in love with the Red camera body and I've always been happy with Pentax products, so this was not a hard choice, especially considering the cost. I am extremely happy with this camera and would highly recommend it. In fact my girlfriend loved it so much she bought the exact camera but with the Blue body color.

Who knows what will happen to Pentax or Pentax products in the future now that they were bought by Ricoh. So if you're considering this camera then who knows, perhaps it could be a collector's item someday????

Digital Peripheral QT474-411-5 Q-See 4-Channel Video Surveillance System with 4 Weatherproof Night

Digital Peripheral QT474-411-5 Q-See 4-Channel Video Surveillance System with 4 Weatherproof Night Vision Cameras and 500 GB Hard DriveJust as described it works great and has added a sense of security to our business. Easy to install and use

I purchased this DVR system after someone managed to get into our garage. I have another Q-See system that included a built in monitor that I use as a mobile IR camera set up. I was happy with Q-See for the most part so I trusted them again. My system is actually the QT474-452-5, the difference being the cameras included with the package

This DVR is very compact and small compared to the 4 channel I purchased a few years ago. However, the interface is improved, and the BackUp USB port is on the front so I don't have to lean and reach over the DVR or turn it around with all the wires attached to get my zip drive into the port.

I have a new Cable Modem, and new Router so I have all of the latest technology updates. This system almost installed itself including the remote monitoring. Q-See includes a few large instructional posters with the unit, one to do your basic set up and one to configure the remote monitoring.

I chose a spot in my basement, and was set up and running with remote monitoring in a little over an hour (Camera installation took more time.). Because my equipment was newer, the Plug N Play feature worked and automatically set up my connection to my router. All I had to do was test it using the supplied web page URL and grab the DSN number and I was pretty much done. I was able to log in remotely from all PC's in the house. The first time you attempt this on each machine it will prompt you to install a web interface program from Q-See. It says its compatible with Firefox, but I never got it to work with Firefox on my PC's. It needed a plug in that I never found. I just used IE instead. I was also able to get in using my iPhone by simply downloading the correct app from the app store and entering in the IP and password.

My only issue was that when you want to shut down the system, you go into the main menu and select Shut Down, wait a minute or two and you'll get a message that it is OK to power down the DVR. This requires you to pull the power plug from the back of the unit or unplug the power brick. My other Q-See has a little power switch on the back, that would have been nice to have here.

With this system you will need to invest in a monitor or a TV so you can set it up and view the menu or video streams from your security center. The DVR includes the RCA to BNC connector for TV hook up, and a HDMI cable. When you buy a monitor, it should include the VGA cable or you'll need to purchase that too.

All of the cameras worked perfectly out of the box. My cameras are the 500/100 where these cameras are the 400/70. This refers to the IR power and distance they can see. The higher the numbers the better. Installation was not too hard. I wanted to avoid mounting to my siding or soffet, so I mounted them to the downspouts under the soffet and ran the cables down the C channels on the corner and then tucked it under the siding and through a hole into the basement.

So far I am pleased with the ease of set up and installation. My other system I never did get the remote monitoring set up and working as the interface is rather crude, but I don't need to use that feature as its not a permanent installation use system. We'll see how this system does at capturing things going on at night while we are asleep.

Aqua - Vu Micro AV Underwater Camera System

Aqua - Vu Micro AV Underwater Camera SystemThis is a handy and very portable device that helps you better understand what is happening in the water. It is very simple to use....just turn on the monitor and start watching "the show". The camera takes good quality images and has a very wide field of view. Winding and unwinding the cable is easy to do due to its small diameter. Because of its size, the screen is not very big and under bright sun light, it is difficult to see any screen image so you need some kind of shade producer. If there is one capability that I would like to have added, it is the ability to send the image to a video recording device. Depending on water clarity, you will be able to see what a "fishfinder" is actually marking.

Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR CamerasI have to say, "Wow I love this lens."

I'd recommend this lens for three kinds of people:

1) People who want to get a taste of the L-series lenses who need a lens in the 70-200mm focal length relatively inexpensively;

2) People who already own the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens who have to lug that huge thing around for a long time;

3) People who want a L-series 70-200mm lens who don't NEED f/2.8 or IS.

Call me a wimp, but shooting 1000-2000 shots a day in the field with the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS gets tiring, especially if you're hand-holding. This lens is relatively inexpensive for being L-series glass, the difference in optical quality is almost imperceptible from the f/2.8, and it's sturdy and ergonomic enough to use all day long.

When I plan on shooting the whole day, especially over the course of several days, this is the lens I take with me, NOT the f/2.8 IS. It's shorter, narrower, and lighter. While you may not feel the difference when shooting for a couple of hours, take two people of equal endurance and strength and give them the f/4 and f/2.8 IS and send them out for a day and you know who is going to come back with the sore arms when the day is over.

On a 1.6x FOVCF body, the 70-200mm focal range makes this lens a little tight; but at 1.3x or 1.0x FOVCF, this focal length range is quite awesome. When I travel, I like to pair this lens with the 17-40mm f/4 and use my feet to fill the gap between 40 and 70mm (I also take along el-cheapo 50mm f/1.8 so I can shoot in low light, and the 1.4x teleconverter to give myself an effective 450mm reach) -all of this is a good, lightweight, relatively inexpensive package. Also, while being quite a chunk of pocket change, this lens is nowhere near as expensive as the f/2.8 versions, and so it's a lot less of something to worry about when traveling or shooting under adverse conditions.

As so far, I have found NOTHING that I do not like about this lens (well, except for the one-stop loss from f/2.8).

I have to say that if you are looking for a single lens to do General Purpose work, this is not it. This lens is for specfic purposes. This lens works best as one-half of a pair, taking the upper useful focal lengths, while you use something like the 17-40mm f/4L or the 24-70mm f/2.8L to handle lower range of focal lengths. If you're looking for a carry-everywhere never-change lens, try the 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. It's a great value, the focal length range is in the sweet spot, and the optics are not bad.

Otherwise, if you fit into one of the three categories at the beginning of this post, I would highly recommend this lens to you.

In my opinion, this Canon lens provides the best value in Canon's entire line up of "L" glass (lenses). If you have never used an L lens before, this will open your eyes to what you have been missing. Very fast focusing, very sharp images, very little chromatic abberation, and consistent quality through the entire zoom and aperature range.

One note; with a widest aperature of f/4 and a long focal length, you will not be able to take indoor photos without excellent lighting or a flash. I've tried to take photos of ice hockey, where the rinks are notoriously poorly lit, and had very little success. Even with a tripod it is a challenge to maintain a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the action of a kids game (yes, even with ISO at 800). But in good lighting or outdoors in the daytime, this lense rocks.

Great sports photos. Great nature photos. This lense is extremely versatile. I have even used it with flash indoors for portrait photography.

There is not too much to mention on the negative side. Its size and color do make it stand out a bit in public, and people may thing you are a professional photographer. I've also noted that the depth-of-field with a wide open aperature, especially at f4, is very narrow. As long as you've been careful to focus on your subject, the background will be blurry. But focus on something other than your subject and you may find your subject to be blurry.

All in all, this is one great lens that will let you take very sharp photos. And it is a bargain price compared to its f/2.8 and f/2.8IS sibliings.

Buy Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras Now

Like many people my decision on a telephoto zoom lens came down to buying the Canon 70-200mm f/4L or the Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. The trade offs seemed clear at first. The former performs slightly better (see Canon website for MTF data), is better designed & built, is faster and has the "L" lens status. User comments and ratings (at more than one site) are slightly more favorable for the L lens. The 70-300mm has an improved IS and of course a longer focal length. Both cost about the same so money was not a factor in my decision.

I eventually decided on the L lens and was initially disappointed. Photos ranged from wonderful to not very good at all. In fact, I almost returned the lens. Eventually I figured out the problem. My yard is heavily shaded so most of the initial photo's were taken in low light and I had selected shutter speeds that were too slow. To avoid camera shake you need to shoot at the reciprocal of the focal length or faster. Sounds simple but with the Digital Rebel XT (which I was using) you need to consider the camera's 1.6 multiplication factor. So at 200mm you need a shutter speed of 1/320 or faster not 1/200 like I initially thought. Once I made the speed adjustment things changed for the better.

Still I have some mixed feelings about my decision. When the light is good this is a fantastic lens but with the IS feature offered on the 70-300mm I would probably get photos that I will miss with this lens.

I can't fault the performance of this lens for its limitations and I have given it 5 stars. In other words it does what it is supposed to do very well but my message to other buyers is to consider where you are most likely to use the lens before buying. Remember IS becomes increasingly important as you extend the focal length. If your camera is already extending it by a factor of 1.6 you may find IS a very attractive feature.

(Note the 70-300mm has a recall on certain model numbers because of problems when using the lens in a portrait position.) By the way, I purchased from Amazon and it was a flawless transaction!

I love this lens! Every year, I shoot a two-day 4-on-4 flag football tournament. With this lens, I consistently capture better photos than the other photographers with longer lenses. At f/4, it's fast enough to give you all the flexability in the world. Since it's a constant aperature throughout the length of the zoom range, your focus remains almost constant, so that you can cheat and get away with changing the zoom after you've got a focus lock.

While it's true that this lense will never "grow up to be" the f/2.8 70-200, at half the wieght and half the cost, it's worth it if you're looking at lugging around your camera for hours on end.

...P>One Warning: If you've never shot with a Canon Professional lens ('L' series lenses), you're in for a real treat. You'll have a very difficult time justifying buying anything for your Canon's in the future that's not an 'L' lens, and that can get VERY expensive.

Want Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras Discount?

Like many aspiring amateur photographers I've "climbed the ladder" of Canon lenses in search of the lens (or set of lenses) that best fit my shooting needs. I've been leaning toward sports and nature, with only a sprinkling of portrait and macro photos, thus I've bought and used the range of Canon's telephoto zoom lenses. You can almost compare them as if you were shopping for a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), where type of use, speed, price, and durability will be your deciding factors. Here are my summarized thoughts on three of the more popular telephoto zoom lenses:

70-300 IS (Ford Explorer) Big zoom, least expensive of the bunch, handy Image stabilization, great for outdoor sports, but slower AF than the rest. May be "sharp" enough for your needs, though discernibly less so than an L series lens.

70-200 F/4 (Honda Pilot) Pro grade build and optics, fast and quiet AF, lighter and much cheaper than the F/2.8. Great all purpose lens that is light enough to be a carry-around lens for trips and hikes.

70-200 F/2.8 (Porsche Cayenne) Impressively sharp and fast. Can handle lower light conditions such as indoor sports, but heavier and more expensive than those above. My left bicep is discernibly larger thanks to hoisting this lens.

Advantages In the 70-200 F/4 Canon has created a harmony of features making it the all purpose middle of the line lens that is almost as affordable as the 70-300 IS, yet with the weather-proofing, durable build, optical performance, and tack sharpness close to the 70-200 f/2.8.

The 70-200 F/4 focuses very fast, very quietly and very accurately thanks to Canon's excellent Ring USM (Ultrasonic Motor). FTM (Full Time Manual) focusing is enabled. The focus and zoom rings are very nicely sized and turn very smoothly. The lens does not extend during zooming and thanks to its inner focusing system the front element does not rotate allowing easy use of a polarized filter.

Drawbacks If you're shooting indoors without a flash (concerts, some sports), the F/4 may not be fast enough for your needs. Also, the F/4 does NOT come with a dedicated tripod mount but it is available as an option ($60+) either in black or white.

Overall This is the affordable all purpose stud of the Canon Telephoto zoom lens line that should find a nice home in most photographers' bags. Unless you have low light or specialized uses, this lens should be high on your list of "To Buy" items. Highly Recommended!

Ikelite 6328.02 PRO-2800 LED Video Lite Complete Package with Flex Arm

Ikelite 6328.02 PRO-2800 LED Video Lite Complete Package with Flex ArmFor me, the product works great...thanks again Ikelite. However, the seller did a very poor job at packaging this item. The item was quoted as "NEW", but I must have been sent a very old display copy. The dial knob that switches light brightness settings was severely scratched, and there was thick dust everywhere. One of the charger pins was also bent. I'd expect something a little more new out of the box if I'm going to spend so much money on this. Please choose a different seller.

I was looking for a good video light not very expensive, then I realize that if you expend no much money, the result must of the time are poor also no always spending too much guarantees great result. I think the Ikelite pro 2800 is from the best light the must affordable one.

Durable light burning time, great angle of illumination and different power light setting, simply great!

Easystore 4 GB Class 2 SDHC Flash Memory Card

Easystore 4 GB Class 2 SDHC Flash Memory CardI bought two of these 4 Gigabyte cards. I tried them in my HP digital camera and received a "card unreadable" error. I tried putting them into my computer thinking that maybe they needed to be formatted...and both cards crashed my computer. I can understand that maybe one card every now and then might be a dud, but what are teh odds of me getting two duds? I guess you get what you pay for.

Worked in two different products, no issues. For the money, it's 5 stars. Works as designed.

This is a cheap quality card. I would not trust this card with take pictures or anything that cannot be easily reproduced.

I tried 3 different SD card readers, none can read it although all 3 can read a Kingston 2GB card, and one card reader can read my other 8GB SDHC card. This is the first SD card I have problem with.

Though my ASUS netbook (which has a built-in reader) is able to read it, it is still inconvenient.

Anyway, go with other brand like Kingston, Sandisk, Transcend, A-Data etc.

Want Easystore 4 GB Class 2 SDHC Flash Memory Card Discount?

This card works great and stores alot of pictures and video on my digital camera. The only con is that the card reader on our computer won't read a class 2 card. But that was easily fixed. I got a card reader with a usb cable that hooks up to the computer for about 1 4. No big deal. And now I can use that to upload photos on my laptop which doesn't have a card reader but does have a usb connection.

Just note that you may need a card reader especially if your computer's a couple years old.

Olympus TG-310 Tough 14.0 MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Wide Optical Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD, (Blue)

Olympus  TG-310  Tough 14.0 MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Wide Optical Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD,We bought this as a wedding gift for our best friends. The reason we chose this item was because it was damage resistant and bright to find if set down outside. {The bride lost her first camera, so we needed something to help combat that.}

They took it to Cancun and had it in and out of the water for 7 days straight. The camera freezes if it goes past 10 feet, they learned, but if you follow the cleaning instructions, it'll come out unscathed. Which to me, is amazing and totally worth the money!

It has several features they've found awesome and helpful, the slideshow when looking for a specific picture, the option to take several pictures at once and have it merged together as one was another.

The reason for only 4 stars is the battery life. The camera dies after about 150 pictures, and that is honestly a downer. Especially if you want to take it anywhere that you'll be snapping several pictures...usually vacations.

However the quality of the photos, the amazing durability of the camera, and the fun color options, can outweigh the one negative. Just charge it often, or buy a second battery to keep as a backup.

I am going to buy one for myself, I'm that sold on it!

This'll be my third model and fifth camera of the Stylus Tough series. Already had this same one for six months, took it too deep skin diving. NOT a dive camera, but truly tough and weatherproof. I've lost three cause they go where a camera should not go. A high end card helps a lot with recycle speed. I'm trying orange to help with losing it problem. If you've ever drowned a camera in the rain or ruined one with dirt, think about this oneit's impervious, I would hand it to a three year old in a mud puddle!

Bought this camera to take on a cruise to the Bahamas. Took a couple of pictures before the trip just to make sure it worked, and all seemed good.

The first 5 days of the cruise (including 2 snorkeling expeditions where I didn't get near to 10 feet underwater), it worked great. Good color rendition, and the panoramic feature was so much more simple than other point-and-shoot digital cameras that I have had. The pictures were nice, and it worked great under water. Sadly, towards the end of the 5th day, the view screen stopped working. It would come on for a couple of seconds and then go blank. I recharged the battery a couple of times, and even tried our spare battery, but that didn't help.

The camera didn't leak in the battery compartment, so if it was caused by water leaking in, it came from some other part of the camera.

Fortunately, we had our Kodak digital camera with us on the trip, so we were still able to take lots of pictures of the Bahamas and Key West.

Sadly, the Olympus went back to the store for a refund. If it couldn't hold up on a fairly tame cruise, I just couldn't justify getting a new one for potential future vacations like white water rafting that I would want a waterproof, shock-friendly camera for.

I have a good Canon DSLR for serious photography. We bought this camera to take snapshots on the cruise, and for future vacations. The camera has nice features, and worked great while it worked. Sadly, since it didn't last 5 full days, I really wouldn't recommend buying one.

I purchased the Olympus TG-310 on a cruise when I dropped a broke my camera. It was my first waterproof camera and I was really impressed with the price and what it could do. WARNING: Make sure to LOCK the camera when you are using it in and under water. I did not and the second day of owning it I got it filled with salt water and couldn't use it for the rest of the trip. Thankfully, Olympus stayed true to their warranty and when I arrived home from the cruise sent it in to get fixed, free of charge. Good company and good camera! Very happy with my purchase.

I bought this camera and floating case prior to a cruise with some friends and it is WORTH EVERY PENNY. We swam with stingrays, snorkeled, explored caves, kayaked, and hung out in the pool and got terrific pictures without having to worry about damaging the camera. Features are easy-to-use and can also do panoramic photos; battery life is a bit limited but I solved this by buying a second battery--extremely afforadable on Amazon. Takes great pictures EVEN UNDERWATER (I used a 8gig memory card and saved all photos on the highest resolution so they'll print out suitable for hanging up at home later) and good indoor/non adventure kind of pictures. Downside: lengthy time between when you push the button and when the photo actually takes.

Polaroid Wireless LCD Display Performance Battery Grip For Canon Eos 7D Digital Slr Camera - Remote

Polaroid Wireless LCD Display Performance Battery Grip For Canon Eos 7D Digital Slr Camera - Remote Shutter Release IncludedThis vertical grip works very well.

The vertical grip has:

a cassette for two batteries

a tripod socket on the bottom

a place to attach a hand strap on the bottom

all the standard buttons for the right hand/finger (m-fn, af-on, af-select/+ */-, scroll wheel)

a switch to turn the vertical grip buttons off

Intervalometer!

LCD w/ clock that's always on (when not showing intervalometer settings)

Button for illuminating/back-lighting the LCD (It's a weak backlight -probably good for preserving night-vision.)

The box also includes an RC-5-like remote.

Overall, the grip and action feels pretty good. Good definition to the half-shutter press. The grip snugs up tightly with the 7d body -no looseness at all.

You can use one battery and leave the 2nd space empty, if needed.

It appears to be powered by a coin-cell battery.

The intervalometer has worked well in my limited testing. I set it to take 1 shot every 30 seconds for 180 shots today -no issues. I even modified some settings in the 7d menu between shots and the sequence kept going.

I found the intervalometer directions to be useless -misleading actually -I had to experiment to figure out how to use it. Here's a quick guide based on my experimentation:

Delay Amount of time to wait before starting the entire sequence (HH:MM:SS)

Long Length of the shooting burst (HH:MM:SS)

Intvl Length of each interval (HH:MM:SS) between each shooting burst

N Number of intervals (maximum 999?)

I usually set "Long" on the intervalometer to 1 sec and the drive mode on the 7d to one frame/single shot -not 3 fps/8fps. This results in one shot per interval. If you use 3fps, you'll get 3 quick shots in that 1 sec.

Update:

After having this intervalometer for a few months now, I've had no real issues with this grip or the intervalometer. The "OK" printing on the center intervalometer button has worn off, but who cares?

If you hold (for three seconds) the */L button (lower left), the intervalometer buttons will be locked, preventing you from accidentally hitting the "play" button and starting your intervalometer sequence at an inopportune time. The duplicated camera buttons will still work, of course. Press again for three seconds again to unlock the intervalometer buttons. I've accidentally started the intervalometer sequence (the buttons aren't recessed), so this lock button is handy.

The grip is a great value.

i contemplated getting the canon grip, but the close to $200 price tag made me unsure.

i ordered this grip expecting a value grip and thats more or less what i got.

---

build:

the build quality seems to be fine, nothing close to the 7D or the authentic canon grip(which i believe has a magnesium chasis), but it seems solid enough.

it attaches to the camera securely, although there is a very slight gap in between the grip and body, but i would be surprised if the actual canon grip didnt have this same gap.

also note that the batteries load in from the side as opposed to the back. your camera's battery door is stored on the grip itself so you dont need to keep it in your camera bag and risk losing it.

---

grip:

the rubberized grip is a little softer and slightly more slippery than the 7D's grip but its functional.

if your hands are big enough to warrant getting the grip, i doubt you will have the camera slipping out of your hands.

i wouldve like to see something a little grippier, but at $90, its not a deal breaker by any means.

---

buttons/LCD:

the buttons are actually decent, although different from the canon buttons.

the shutter button is a little firmer and it has a very well defined half-press. i actually prefer the grip's shutter button to the camera's.

the other buttons are ok as well, although they are "squishier" than the canon buttons.

the LCD was a nice touch. it constantly remains onrunning off its own small coin-type battery.

the backlight is a little weak, but it should be bright enough to do its job in the dark.

---

intervalometer:

again, its not something that blew me away, but it is functional.

i've only spent an hour or two messing around with it, but it seems to work fine, although setting it up was a little confusing to me at first.

as other reviewers have said, the directions were a little hazy, so i relied on the reviewer above and his/her directions.

here are the directions from H. Kaiserhahn:

"I found the intervalometer directions to be useless -misleading actually -I had to experiment to figure out how to use it.

I usually set "Long" on the intervalometer to 1 sec and the drive mode on the 7d to one frame -not 3 fps/8fps. This results in one shot per interval. If you use 3fps, you'll get 3 quick shots in that 1 sec."

***UPDATE**

also want to add that you can do long exposures as well. set the camera to bulb mode and set the "long" setting to however long you want the shutter to stay open.

---

remote:

the remote works and thats about it. not much more to say about it.

i tried using the remote to trigger the camera w/o grip and it did work(as it should), but it seemed to work better with the grip attached.

i havent tested the maximum range yet, but from about 5-10 feet it worked for me.

keep in mind that its an IR remote, so it has to be line of sight.

---

overall:

this is a pretty nice grip. dont expect ferrari performance at a honda price, but theyll both get you where you need to go.

the features are great and the intervalometer is a nice touch. The only reason id still contemplate getting a canon grip would be because of the superior build quality.

i mostly shoot outdoors, so the fear of dropping the cam and damaging the grip is a real one for me. not to say that the grip feels cheap, but it's obviously not going to be as solid as the 7D body or the canon grip with its magnesium chassis.

im giving the grip 5 stars because its such a great value.

all of the concerns about build quality and such are justifiable since it is only $90.

obviously the canon grip will be better, but for those who can't justify the $200, this is a great alternative.

*** UPDATE***

as of now, the grip is not showing any problems with power drainage when being left on over time.

ive left the grip in the on position, camera off, for a few days now and the batteries are still at the same level they were at the start.

using genuine canon batteries so the battery meter is accurate.

I received this grip a few days ago, so far everything is ok, the rubberized portion of it has better grip than the camera does, it niceley fits the camera, the buttons feel the same as the camera ones, the quartz display is what it is, a simple quartz display... the intervalometer buttons are a bit tiny (I have big hands)sometimes I end up using my nails but that might be 'cause I'm kinda chunky, It has a metal screw for holding it to the camera (I was worried about this because I read in the web that there are some battery grips with plastic screws).

I would recommend it if you are looking for the intervalometer function.

This is not the Nikon brand grip; that's clear if you directly handle both. However, at less than 1/3 the price, it's not bad. It mounts securely and all of the features operate well. Grip is rubberized and feels substantial. It's only the buttons that tell you that this is not top end.

It comes with a AA battery tray and a tray for a second Nikon battery if you have two. I am an amateur photographer and for what I'll use this grip for, it will do the job.

No comment on the remote. I'm sure it works fine, but I already have a Nikon IR remote and a cable shutter release, so I won't use it.

The five star rating takes into consideration the value this grip offers. If it were priced identically to the Nikon, I'd give the Nikon grip 5 stars and this one 3 stars.

Update: After using this grip for 11 months now off and on (probably 20 times), the "key" that is used to lock the battery tray into the grip broke. This is clearly a weak link as the key is made of plastic and with the amount of torque you apply twisting it to lock, it should be metal. I can still lock it, but it's not as easy. Otherwise, the grip still works fine.

Want Polaroid Wireless LCD Display Performance Battery Grip For Canon Eos 7D Digital Slr Camera - Remote Discount?

This Polaroid grip was a sight for sore eyes with the price tag of $90 when compared to the Canon BG-E6 grip which runs $235 on a good day. Tactile rubber on the front feels good when carrying a 5d mark II portrait. However, the grip has a slightly less ergonomic shape than the Canon BG-E6 grip. The only other thing I've noticed is that when I mount the grip to a monopod, and adjust the fluidhead, the grip and the body have some play, even tightened all the way. It is very slight, not as meaningful when the pricetag is less than half.

The Polaroid grip is made of plastic, but with 2 batteries it adds a considerable weight to the body, which can be fatiguing when handling a long shoot. This is a drawback with any grip. Some find it more convenient to carry another battery and just change it. I have larger hands, and find that it adds more real estate for me to grab onto the camera. It does however, take some getting used to adjusting the thumb wheel as the grip (same with Canon one) puts the thumb wheel of the 5d mark II barely within reach... might even make it difficult to use one handed. These are again commentaries on grips in general as it applies to both the OEM and the aftermarket version.

Overall, it was a good investment especially with the built in intervalometer, eliminating the need to carry another accessory. It offers no weatherproofing, so be careful of using it in any damp conditions or splashes. You'd be better off just taking it off and using the normal body as it is. Again, were it not for the bit of wiggle room between the grip and the body when moving around on a fluidhead (pretty minute detail), it would have deserved a better star rating, but it is not perfect. With that being said, I cannot see a huge benefit to buying another else if you really want a grip, even if price was not an issue. This is a great buy for anyone WANTING a grip. You may not like it, but i bet it is probably because a grip might not be for you.

BenQ MX511 2700 Lumen XGA 3D Ready DLP Projector

BenQ MX511 2700 Lumen XGA 3D Ready DLP ProjectorBenQ MX511 is 3D ready but it does not support HD source for 3D. You can see 3D only using composite (yellow) or s-video cable (advised by BenQ tech support). To see HD 3D you need HDMI 1.4 input and this projector only support HDMI 1.3 input. I hooked up Sony 3D Blue ray player (BDPS470) with HDMI 1.3 to this projector and this combination was not able to project 3D image on screen. It automatically playback to 2D/1080p. Menu Option in BenQ for 3D setup also got disabled/turn off with this setup. I have checked with composite cable to see 3D with DLP link ready glass and 3D was horrible with no depth, seems like 2D.

I am really quite pleased with this projector. Wanted a projector to replace my very old NEC SVGA one with hdmi for xbox gaming and dvd/etc in the basement and i am now projecting about a 5ft high image on a white painted wall. Was looking extensively for months, comparing lamp life, native output, etc, etc, and waiting for something acceptable at the price point i wanted. Found this one for $449, which was well below what i expected to pay, but there is no comprimise.

DVD quality was excellent as well. I played a few games of Black Ops standing up, and found myself trying to look around corners and up over things. For the price and with 3d ability(which i cannot comment on yet), i could not be happier. Colors are really good with a # of preset and configurable settings via the small remote. Audio is obviously not going to knock your socks off, as i haven't run it through the amp yet, but it is still more than acceptable. Kicks my upstairs HD toshiba picture actually. Great deal and no real compromise for an excellent viewing experience for those not 'needing' it to be the absolute best there is out there.

I have had this projector since January 2012, have put about 110 hours on it so far.

I am including the guide on how to run 3D from your computer onto this projector below. but first pros and cons.

I bought it for 350 from staples canada (toronto)

Pros:

Great picture quality

Great color reproduction

All the standard features + hdmi (at 350 HDMI is pretty good).

Cons:

Loud fan (according to my standards, others may think its alright)

very poor instructions in the 3D department from Benq, and thats where they lost the point.

How to run 3D on this projector.

1Buy the glasses. (I got "Sintron" 3D glasses from ebay for $31, they work very well)

2secure a VGA cable. (HDMI will not work, dont waste your time)

3download the "stereoscopic player" from 3dtv.at (dont buy it yet, just download free first try and see if 3d works for you)

4connect the projector via VGA and go to display properties -> advanced, set the resolution to the highest resolution possible at 120Hz. its important to set it at 120 HZ (may also work at 100HZ but 120 is better)

5Press the menu button on projector's remote, you will see that the 3D is now available, select 3D and turn it on.

6open your stereoscopic player and go to File -> settings -> playback options. in "Viewing method" pick "Software pageflipping" in "glasses control" pick "DLP 3D Ready Encoding". under Preferred viewing methods Stereoscopic pick "Software pageflipping".

7hit ok.

8now play your SBS movie and it should be throwing 3D on the wall.

P.S: if you didnt turn on your 3D glasses. smack your self :) .

I hope this helps

Bought a factory refurbished MX511 about 2 weeks ago. It is very bright and works well even in a moderately lit room. I use it mostly for Xbox 360 and it looks great. SVAT CVP800 Mini Portable DVR Digital Video Recorder with MPEG4 Compression

SVAT CVP800 Mini Portable DVR Digital Video Recorder with MPEG4 CompressionI purchased the SVAT CVP800 with the CCDCO camera. After some minor initial bumps, I am very satisfied. When first received, the camera had a defective video cable. It took a while for me to figure out the problem, but once done, SVAT customer service was very responsive and sent a replacement cable immediately. The only significant negative comments that I have are that the CVP800 does not include or offer as an optional accessory a 12VDC plug-in car power supply; also the instruction manual is not very helpful in several areas. On the positive side, the CVP800 is extremely small (easily fits into a shirt pocket), light weight and consumes very little power (under 1.5 watt). It has a powerful feature not found on other similar mini-portable units that I evaluated, specifically, the ability to loop record, i.e., continuously record, writing over the oldest data when it reaches the capacity of the SD card. This allows the unit to record 24 hours a day forever without any attention whatsoever. If an event happens that you are aware of and want to review and save, simply stop the recorder and selectively play back the last minutes/hours recorded, and if you want to, download the data onto your computer to save it or simply pull the SD card with the recorded data, and insert a new one in the CVP800. Overall, I have found this unit to be well designed user friendly, easy to understand, and highly flexible in both recording and playing back. The only reason I gave the CVP800 a 4-star rating (rather than 5-stars) is the absence of an out-of-the-box way to power the unit in a car other than depending on the internal AA batteries.

There's no other DVR of it's type that I could find. I have it in my glove box wired to a forward seeing sony lipstick cam and microphone for insurance reasons. I set this thing to record at full frames full fps and to always record when powered. So it only records when I have the key in the ignition and save about 3 hours worth on a 2GB card. Hasn't failed me yet.

Seems to work okay but it breaks up the video into ~10 second pieces when recording HQ (708X480?)@12 FPS. This is about an MByte. These files can be stitched together if you want to play them back with software, such as MS Movie Maker, but is a pretty big PIA.

It would be nice to find a file on your SD memory stick that started when you pushed the record button and ended when you pushed stop.

It would also be nice if it could use 12V.

Once I figured out how to work it, it works well. The directions are really useless. I still haven't really got the motion detection thing figured out, but it does work. The pictures are not the best but they do serve there purpose. I think if I had looked around a little more I could have found something a little better, but all in all it does its job.

I've owned two of these for 3 years one in each car. They loop-record anytime the car is in motion. I installed a GPS-overlay box between my forward-facing camera (mounted on my rear-view mirror) and the DVR. This imprints my speed on the video. The insurance this provides against he-said she-said accidents, inaccurate laser guns (check out my youtube video), or rogue police who say one thing on the side of the road, and another in court is priceless.

All co-workers have these installed after seeing how it reveals how 'unimpeachable, trustworthy, and honest' police officer testimony is anything but...

I don't go looking for trouble. It finds me. When it does, it's great to have an unbiased witness ready to come to my defense.

Note: If your state is a two-party consent state, you'll need to warn anyone within audio recording distance that they're being recorded. Otherwise, at best it's inadmissible, or at worst, you could be charged with felony wire-tap offenses. I solved this problem by applying small (3" x 1") red warning labels in the corner of all roll-down windows. They look like alarm stickers, but state "Notice: Any conversations inside and within 6' of this vehicle may be recorded".

I would have given it 5 stars, but I have two annoyances:

1) The A/V in/out jacks are nothing more than a 4-contact 3.5mm stereo jack. In humid environments the internal contacts become 'dirty' causing flicker in the video if the cables are bumped.

2) The video is actually split into multiple 1 1.5MB asf files. They can be spliced back together, but there is about a 2-4 frame loss at each seam. It's barely noticeable, but it is an annoyance. I imagine this has to be the case as the files must be completed and saved before power loss. If the power is turned off, whatever file is being written is corrupt. Each segment is about 4-6 seconds long. So you lose the last few seconds of record when you turn off the car.

Because of the age of mine, I do not have a firmware update option under the SD section of the menu. I have an email into svat to see if there is a work-around. For now, my max SD size is 4GB (non-SDHC).
