I wanted the older model with the I/O ports on the back as shown in the pics, however they sent me a FI8918W which is newer, but I would prefer the model as shown. I have also read that the Fi9818W did not have a mounting hole that was threaded the same as a camera, however on mine it is the same and I can mount this on a tripod if I wish. The camera works OK, video quality is not spectacular, but if you are familiar with inexpensive security cams this should be no surprise. The 2 way audio which was supposed to be improved over the older model is hit and miss, which really makes it pointless. Additionally for firefox the vlc (videolan) plugin needs to be installed to get sound (IE can get it with a plugin from the manufacturer). The pan and tilt functions do work well, though I have not found a way to set it up to patrol regularly.

I can verify that this works with IPCamViewer on an android device, only bug with that app was that the L/R buttons were reversed (not a ding against Foscam however).

Overall a cool toy, but the lack of I/O ports and the sound quality (or lack thereof) bring it down a couple stars.

I use this for our vacation house to serve several functions. When idle it is aimed at the front door including a view of the big screen TV. In the event of intrusion, it is set to email me multiple pictures giving me a better sense of security when we are away for weeks at a time. Also it comes in handy for a quick weather check. Mounted in a window frame, I can pan to the deck to see how much snow to expect on the way up in the winter. Only complaint is it creeps out the kids when they borrow the house. Whenever cabin in use I just aim it at the ceiling and shut it off. Overall very satisfied with the purchase.

First of all, you do not get the webcam shown in the photos. You get the Foscam FI8918. It looks pretty similar but it doesn't have the alarm ports on the back.

Set up was easy enough. I didn't install the software that comes with this cam. I simply plugged the cam into my router, found the IP address on my network and used a browser (Google Chrome) to log in. There is a lot of setup you need to do on your router if you are going to view this webcam from outside your house. You will need to set up a static IP for the cam and then setup port forwarding. You also should use a DNS service if your internet provider changes your modem's IP address from time to time (most do).

Image quality of indoor images is good even in the dark. Outdoor images are very washed out and the colors aren't that good. I have since learned that if you want good outdoor images, you need to buy a web cam with an IR cut filter. This cam does not have an IR cut filter. I have this cam sitting in a window. You can't use the night time illumination (IR LEDs) to light anything outside because the LEDs just reflect off the window. Indoor image quality is good when lit by the IR LEDs.

If the outdoor image quality were better, this would be a 5 star cam. If all the stuff about the router set up sounds difficult to you, that is really the nature of any IP based web cam and there are some good tips and a forum on the Foscam site that should help

I'm impressed! The IP cam worked better than what I expected, good range of movement, nice night vision and sound and audio that works well with IE7. Our first experiment for the Foscam was a petcam setup ...we always wondered what the dog did while we were away. I can even turn-on the speaker and call to our little critter... got him all confused lol! Easy to setup, I didn't even open the manual nor use the install disk... just followed hints from other reviews. First, plugged the cam into the router and opened router configuration to find the cam's IP address. Next, I logged onto the cam, configured user accounts and WiFi settings, disconnected the lan cable and presto... wireless cam found the router! Then, I setup the cam with a free account on "no-ip.com" to view our petcam on the internet. After allowing internet propagation of our new host setup on no-ip.com and port-forwarding, we now have petcam anywhere... fantastic! Highly recommended and a great buy!

Update7/22/2012; after 6 months of 24/7 use, the camera has an issue, locks-up about monthly and needs a power cycle reboot... somethings several to get the router to see the cam again... Which means reset the cam before leaving on vacation so the it stay up and running for as long as you are gone. I have two foscam but this cam seemed more problem pronged than the fixed foscam. Also, sound, mic and video record requires activeX to work... Meaning Windows only! Not a big issues. I like the alarm setting where the cam will email you clear pictures when it detects movement... Great for posting around the streets... "Do you know this guy???". So, stlll works but with issues.

i bought this to monitor a panel on my boat and it has exceeded my expectations. As others have pointed out the setup is definitely not plug and play. Unless you configure routers for a living setting this thing up so you can look at it from anywhere is going to take you some time. But reading the instructions over and over again and getting on Google, it can be done. It is worth the time and the second one you do will be real easy.

If you have a new Macbook from April 2010+, and are looking for an adapter for HDMI W/ audio THIS IS THE ONE. I spent 30 minutes looking through Amazon to make sure it would be the right one, so let me save you the trouble and say it is!

Make sure you go to settings and switch audio to "HDMI out".

Now the problem... It's not a problem with this product at all (thus the 5 star rating). The Macbook won't control the volume with the keyboard through HDMI out, you have to control it from the TV/Monitor/external speakers. Not sure why, I guess that's just how Digital audio works. This was a surprise to me, so I wanted to let you all know that.

The audio sounds fantastic!

Edit 6 months later:

I had to replace it (see my comment) already. I was transporting it back and forth only a few times and it just stopped working. I replaced it, it's been about 3 months so far. No problems. If it remains working for a while I will put it back up to 5 stars, but it seems I am not the only one with this problem of it lasting. Still it is far cheaper than the Apple version.

Edit 1 year later:

Taking another star off. I think I have to replace it already, it shorts out on an hourly basis now. When a phone rings it will either mess with the picture or go totally to black. I am disappointed with the fact that I'll have to buy one every 6 months at this rate

I kept the one from above, it would have intermittant trouble but it was mostly good. It just died (see comment). 2 stars now. If you're thinking about buying this, honestly buy two. It's still pretty cheap, and you'll have an extra for when the first inevitably fails. I am not really sure there are other options out there in this price range. If you do buy something else, make sure it sends audio out, about 4/5 of all the adapters don't seem to.

After several frustrating purchases, I finally found this. YES, IT TRANSMITS AUDIO through the mini-display port in the most recent generational updates of the Macbook and Macbook Pro lines. Great product. Affordable and effective. Recommended.

The first one of these that I got only worked once before failing. I contacted the seller and -to their creditthey shipped out a replacement immediately. Problem is, the second one just failed on me too. It has been less than a month and I've only used it 3-5 times max. I understand this is not an "Apple Approved" product, but it should still last longer than a handfull of uses. I would contact the seller again, but... what's the point... are they gonna send me a new one every time I want to watch a movie?

I think the problem is where the cable connects to the larger rectangular piece. It seems that moving/handling it with even the slightest pressure breaks/disconnects something in the rectangular part of the device.

Now, I'm gonna spring for the Moshi since it's worth the extra money to know that when I want to watch a movie with my lady friend... it's gonna work.

Also, I should note that I have a late 2010 MBA 13.3 and both sound and video (720p and 1080i, but no 1080p) worked on my 42in Samsung (1080p)... when the product was functional.

long story short, I had it for a month and it broke. By itself I wouldn't consider that an issue products are sometimes faulty. It happens. But over a week after receiving the RMA'd projector, Optoma now tells me it will be another 3 weeks (they "hope") before they can get the parts to fix it.

It's unfortunate, especially considering that this projector really is awesome I loved it while I had it. And as I said, I don't consider it a fatal flaw that it broke; that's why we have warranties. But if the company is going to spend a month repairing a nearly brand new projector rather than just replacing it, that's what I consider terrible support.

I have this projector in a bright living room adjacent to our sunroom which lets in tons of sunlight. I can still run this projector and get a very nice picture in the middle of the day. It has the expected DLP "pop" to it and is surprisingly sharp for a 720p model. I actually have a newer 1080p LCD projector that cost twice as much and I still go back and forth trying to decide which one I like best. I am running this projector on a grey 106" screen from about 12 feet back. I did have to put some work in trying to get the picture to fit the screen correctly as there is no offset (as with all but the most expensive DLP units). I've got a HTPC hooked up to watch 3D blu-ray and I can tell you if you like 3D in the theater you will LOVE it on this projector! The only star I can take off is for the price. You can actually get a newer model Optoma for less. However, if you can find one of these (possibly refurbished) at a deep discount don't hesitate to pick one up!

Ive had this Projector since March this year, and I have been loving it ever since, It has superb picture/color quality, and where I have it positioned I have a ~100" screen. The great thing about this projector is that it is "future proof", meaning it wont become obsolete in 2 months, it comes with a built in HDMI port, and it supports full 1080p. Also for computers that are connected to it, it supports all resolutions up to 1920x1080. It has 2 audio ports, one in, the other out, I have my cable reciever plugged into the HDMI port, and because HDMI also has the audio channel, I connected a 3.5mm jack cable from the projector to a 5.1 home theatre system, and the audio quality is superb, no static or interference. It comes with a standard AV video output for all devices/consoles ect. without an HDMI or VGA connection. It doesnt, however, have the composite input(red blue green video, white and red audio). I also have my computer connected via VGA cable, and the picture again is awesome, where I am sitting(about 10-11 feet from the screen)I cannot see the individual pixels on the wall, the lamp lasts about 4000 hours, if set on standard brightness mode, or 3000 on bright mode. I set it on standard and the picture is still superb. It comes with a sleep timer built in, also a security passcode feature, letting you set a 4 digit code that you have to input when you turn the unit on. As far as sound goes, I sit right below the unit(I have it mounted on the wall with a universal mount) and I don't hear a thing. The only problem that I have is that since the unit is not being manufactured anymore, I had to contact Optoma directly because all of the "authorized dealers" did not carry a replacement lamp, after 4 months of using it almost every day, I am up to 965 hours, so about 1000 hours, every 4 months, the lamp should last about a year. I was able to find a replacement lamp directly from Optoma for about $180, not to bad considering how good the projector is and how long the lamp lasts. Overall this projector is very good quality, I havent had anything break or had to have it repaired. I would definitely recommend this projector to anyone who is a first timer like I am but perhaps also for people who have had other projectors as well. The price for this, $700, is by-far the best price I have seen for this, when I purchased it from Best Buy back in march it was going for $999. $700 for a projector this good is the best its going to get, so I definitely recommend you by this if you are considering it.

This is my first video projector and it has met my expectations. I am using it for a home theater and have only connected it to a computer for testing. I have it set up across the room to project a 10-foot wide image on a wall painted with regular white paint. With the bulb on the lower setting, the image is still bright. The focus makes a sharp picture, limited only by the projector's native resolution. If you walk up to the wall (or screen), you will see the pixels, nice and sharp. (Because of its oddball "16:10" aspect, watching 16:9 material will give you 720 pixels high, though its true vertical resolution is 800. If you watch 4:3 material, you can use the full 800 and waste some horizontal resolution instead. It's a compromise that ensures the corners of the image area will rarely be used.) It is possible to max out the saturation and brightness settings, but if this happens, you can just turn them down. I don't have a point of comparison for the color and contrast, but I am satisfied.

Now here are all the limitations you should be aware of. None of them keep me from recommending the projector, but you should take these things into account.

The projector is inconsistent when faced with an interlaced video signal. Sometimes it seems to attempt a reverse pulldown or bob deinterlace. Often it does nothing and combing is visible. There is no manual override for this. The best bet is to adjust the settings on the device creating the signal. Most Blu-ray players, DVD players, and cable boxes have settings to choose the output format. If you're watching VHS, you may be out of luck.

Component video can be connected, but a component-to-VGA adapter is needed. These are not easy to find in stores, so plan ahead and order online if you want this. HD15 (VGA) Male to RCA x 3 Female, D / Shield, (HD15 to Component Video) Adaptor, 1 ft -Not For Computer Use If you plan on connecting a Wii, you want this, since the Wii will only give you an interlaced signal over composite.

Consider the 1/8-inch mini audio in and out jacks as a utility convenience only. I tried all kinds of configurations with different cables and adapters. Even when I only routed the audio signal through the projector, it ruined the sound, making it painfully tinny. Connect your audio to a separate sound system if at all possible.

This projector is advertised as being capable of "PC 3d." If you want to watch 3d Blu-rays, you can, but you need to pay a bit extra to get a signal converter box. I purchased the View Sonic 3D HD Video Processor (VP3D1), and confirm that it works together with this projector and a 3d-capable Blu-ray player.

The image quality esp the color is quite good. I'm pretty picky about this, and found I had very few adjustments to make right out of the box. The size and portability are a plus. I'd seen this brand recommended on a reliable 16mm film collectors' forum.

Nikon Coolpix S7c 7MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

This camera is stylish, thin enough to be comfortable to carry in a pocket for entire day, has a large screen, but the performance is overall disappointing.

Battery life was hardly 100 pictures.

Focusing and taking a picture is very slow...usually more than 4 seconds when it has to use the focus assist light indoors. Everyone comments on that when I'm taking their picture. In addition, unlike most cameras that have multiple focus points (7,9,11,etc), this camera only focuses on the middle point of the picture by default. There is a nice feature that lets you manually move the focus point around to anywhere in the scene, but it takes a lot clicks and time so I don't bother using it.

The lens is not wide enough for daily use and most pictures come out very soft in the center with bad chromatic aberration and a lot of distortion at wide angle.

WIFI is slow and useless in all but the most rarest of situations. They should have just used Bluetooth so that anyone could use their phone to email the picture or at least be able to email/ftp directly to any email/ftp you want.

The screen smudges very quickly, but it's easy to clean and can't see the dirt when the back light is on.

The camera decides when the electronic VR (image stabilization) gets used and most of the time doesn't activate it. And even when it does activate it, it just increases the noise and the picture still comes out soft. There is an option to clean up the image after it's been taken, but the camera tells you that it's not able to do it for many images.

The camera corrupted my Sandisk ultra II sdcard, something that my former compact digicam didn't do in two years.

The movie mode, on the other hand is very good. The movie files do get fairly large...about 1mb per second, but very smooth, very stable and have good color. There is a constant buzzing noise in movies though.

The scroll wheel is fantastic and should have been incorporated into many other cameras. It makes browsing pictures and menus extremely fast and easy. It really saves thumb fatique. The camera is quite fast at switching between pictures, modes, etc. So that...(plus the movie and style factor) are the ONLY redeeming features.

It's also very hard to get used to not having an actual switch to switch between movie and picture mode. Having to go trough though the menu can sometimes make you miss a photo opportunity because the camera is set in video mode and switching to photo is not a one button operation.

Overall, I don't think it's worth the price. What am I getting to replace this one?.....the Canon SD800.

Pros:

-Small size and weight; Can fit into pocket or purse without feeling you are carrying a brick. Sleek design and large 3" LCD has 230,000 resolution, which means when you take a picture you can actually see how clear the picture is and you don't have to zoom in to see what it looks like. Not the case with SD 600/630. The new canon model coming out soon has highter resolution.

Takes great snapshots with flash or without flash with plenty of light. Not for those that love to play with tons of settings and I would agree with previous reviewer that ISO settings worsen the quality of the picture. Adjusting the exposure isn't difficult and you would need to click through the menu to adjust it, but that's something that all digital cameras require.

-The color of the picture is more true to color than what I've experienced with Canon powershot A70, SD 600/630 and the flash isn't so powerful that it creates an unrealistic brightness or whiteness to people's faces. The flash creates an even brightness throughout the entire picture as opposed to just adding light to your face and leaving the background pretty dark

-Very easy to use; Very easy menus

Cons:

-The picture isn't as sharp as the Canon SD600/630 when you take a picture inside without the flash and don't have adequate lighting, but it is perfect with the flash on.

-You have to hold camera steady and any slight movement might blur the shot, which is true of other digital cameras, but the Nikon s7c is a little more sensitive to that. Same thing with moving objects.

-Smaller buttons, but the camera is small and thin to begin with, thus, you can't expect to have a tiny little thing with large buttons.

-No viewfinder, which didn't bother me, because I don't use it to take a picture, but some people prefer to have it.

-Lithium ion battery doesn't last very long (other digital cameras use a lithium ion battery as well, but there are some that use double AA size batteries so when the recharecheable batteries die, you have an alternative. Those would be larger cameras, of course.)

Overall, this is a camera that takes great snap shots. If you are in low light, use a flash, don't bother with iso settings. It's just not meant for those things and when I go to any event, I really don't have the time to play around with settings and just want a good quality picture without pushing too many buttons. I was looking for a camera that takes true to color photos with a flash that adds flattering light as opposed to overexposed faces that make people look frighteningly pale.

I love it, but no camera is perfect with every feature.

Try it out and compare it to others and look for the features that matter to you!

I don't get all of the negative reviews about the S7c. I got one for Xmas and find it great. I had a Pentax Optio S (circa 2002) and the Nikon is a major step up in quality and features. I'm no photo geek, so I have pretty realistic expectations what a point-and-shoot digital camera is for and what it's limitations are.

I did tons of research and narrowed my choice down to the Nikon and the Canon SD630 (both have 3" screens). Among professional reviewers, the Canon did come out a bit ahead (e.g., cnet), but all of the professional reviews of the Nikon were very positive (and I don't have nearly as a discerning eye as the pros). I went with the Nikon because it has 7 megapixels (the Canon has only 6), I liked having fewer mechanical parts (no mechnical retractable lens), and the wifi seemed like the next big advancement in photo sharing.

Pros:

1. Great photos in most conditions.

2. Large screen size.

3. Simple and intuitive menus.

4. Small # and good placement of essential buttons on camera.

5. Wifi is the best. It took some effort to get it set up (Nikon tech support was great), but once I got it going, downloading to my PC is fast and easy. I've also used the Coolpix Connect to send email to family and friends, and it worked seamlessly. Every camera should have wifi!

6. Pictmotion is a great and fun feature.

Cons:

1. In some indoor light, the flash goes off when it doesn't need to, causing overexposure.

2. Nothing else to speak of at this point.

I have been searching reviews of the Nikon coolpix s7c to make sure that it wasnt just me and I am finding that indeed countless other reviewers are having the same problem, and many have taken it up with Nikon only to be told 'sorry'.

In a nutshell, I am a professional photographer and have owned about a dozen digital cameras ranging from the early elph to nice new SLR models. I purchased the Nikon coolpix s7c for my wife, and it is by far the worst one I have owned for many reasons, but the chief problem is they have simply screwed up the way this camera does things automatically and the result is HORRIBLE PICTURES.

The 'electronic VR' is simply digital image sharpening, the ISO adjustments in low light are terrible, and what I simply cannot believe is how terrible the autofocus is. Couple that with the design of this camera that makes it difficult to shoot steadily, and you literally end up getting more than 50% blurry pictures.

Is somtimes difficult to understand some of the reviews for that camera. One review for instance says that the quality of the pictures is fantastic and the next one says that it's terrible. This camera is (like most cameras of this kind of any brand) basically a point and shoot camera and it will of course never have the performance of a Nikon D 200 or even of a D50. It is not the same range and not the same price. But for what is is, it's an excellent camera that takes great pictures. I bought one to update my "old" S1 and to take everyday pictures, I am quite satisfied with it. It takes great pictures , great videos, is fast enough for a "normal" use, the display frame is one of the best and wifi works well.

I wanted a camcorder that was reasonably priced, not too large and with the ability to use a VCR tape that could go directly into my VCR. This camcorder more than met these requirements. The VCR-C tape goes into an adapter and can be immediately viewed on a VCR. You can dub a tape directly to the normal size VCR tape directly from the camera. There are great digital effects possible fading in and out of the picture in a number of different colors and shapes. It has both optical and digital zoom for a total of 70x. There is an image stabilizer for use when riding in a car or walking. Plus more features. Great LCD view screen.

With the newer digital and DVD recorders, this one may seem a bit out of date, but it is much more reasonably priced and is VERY EASY to use. The manual can be a bit unclear, but if you read it carefully, a few times, everything becomes clear.

Excellent product.

I am from the old school. So I not only loved the VHS recording format, but if I wanted to dip into modern day technology the photo feature on this particular model will allow me to. Compared to other camcorders under $250 the picture isn't as great but good enough! Remember you get the best of both worlds with this one!! It's easy to use and it's cheap!!!!!!!!!

I bought a Panasonic Camcorder a few years back. I continually got a Dew Detected message. I bought this model and it worked fine again for about a year or so...Then, Halloween comes around and the sound is not there, then there, then so low you can barely hear it then static then back. We bought this camcorder because we were going on Vacation to Disneyland and our other camcorder would not work. This camcorder is so much better than our other one was. When ever you moved the old camcorder to get various shots, it had to refocus, which took a few minutes. This one does not need to refocus. This camcorder is a little bit heavier than our old one, but it is easier to use. And the better quality makes up for the weight difference. This is a very good product and I will recomend it to a lot of people.

What a mess!! Last summer, I tried to tape some very special events and there was no sound. The very frustrating part was that it was a spuratic problem. One day it would work and the next day I got no sound. YOu never had any idea if it would work, which meant that some super special moments were lost forever. There was always a picture, but half the time there was no sound. I finally got so frustrated that I quit taping anything. Repair would be $175, so it is not worth fixing. I was glad to see that other people were having the exact problem, so I know it is not just me. My camera is going in the trash can. Don't buy this camera. YOu can't recapture those lost treasures.

The service from HandHeldItems was excellent and I will buy from them again, there is one problem and it is not their creation. It is my tablet, I have an Acer A501 and it turns out that Acer has done something to the micro hdmi port so that only their $30 cable will work with it. I didn't return this because one I waited to long and two it was not HandHeldItems fault and no need to deprive them of income. I highly recommend buying from them if your in the market for cables and such.

The user's manual is very easy to follow and understand, and the camera functions are extremely simple to use. I am very pleased with the picture quality, and had gorgeous pictures even on the very lowest image quality settings! This camera is worth every penny I paid for it, and I'd highly recommend it! It's definitely a superb quality camera!

I am a Grandma and not very adept at figuring out new fangled cameras expecially with printers. The printer is VERY easy to use and it's been nice when grandkids and friends come to our vacation house-we take many pictures and can send relatives and friends home with as many photos as they want. No going to the store to get them developed! A wonderful advantage to this camera/printer set! The printer has an included electric cord, or you can purchase a battery to run the printer without electricity. This camera takes several different quality photos depending what you set the "MPs" at. Even I learned how to set the MPs! The greater the "MPs," the clearer resolution of your photo. This model M517 goes from 3MPs to 5.2MPs, but I found that the lower MPs take VERY acceptable quality pictures. The higher the MPs, the less pictures your camera memory will hold before you'll need to delete some if you want to take more photos. So I purchased a 1GB memory card that can store several HUNDRED photos even on the clearest resolution. This is wonderful for vacations, weddings, etc.! It is very easy to delete "red eyes" in your photos before printing them and you can also "crop" the photos if you want a closer-up photo. The only "con" I have is that the rechargeable batteries do not last long-a few days depending on how often you have the camera on. The camera batteries are recharged when you "dock" (set the)the camera on the printer. I purchased a 4 pack of NiMH rechargeable batteries so I could always have spares on hand. The recharger charges the camera batteries in ONE HOUR. Charging batteries when the camera is docked on the printer takes several hours to do. The whole package has what you need to start taking pictures immediately-even ink and photo paper. Cables to connect to a computer and to a TV to view photos are all included. All in all, this Grandma is VERY satisfied with my new Photo Studio!

I got this camera a few days ago and I must say that I am very, very satisfied. The price is great for a 5 megapixel, it is easy to use, very user-friendly. Its size is perfect: very small. The 2" screen is wonderful and the pictures this camera takes are surprisingly good. It comes with an internal 32 Mb memory, but I got a 1 Gb SD memory card. This memory card can store 618 pictures(5 megapixel) and more than 300 pictures at 5 megapixel best mode. It also comes with a rechargeable NiMH battery and an AC adapter to recharge it. I think HP should also include in the whole package a case for the camera, once there is none in the box. Finally, I am not sorry at all for having bought it...

Easy to use and takes great pictures. You can edit on the printer or use a PC and the included HP Image Zone software for more advanced editing. Camera has all the features a casual user would need plus a few I'll probably never use. Printer produces excellent quality 4 x 6 prints. Printer is small enough to take on trips so you can have prints immediately. Can also show pictures and videos on a TV.

Wrist strap was missing from the box but HP had one delivered 3 days after I called Customer Support. I'd give this 5 stars were it not for battery problems. The rechargeable NiMH 'AA' batteries included will not hold a charge. They're rated for 150 shots but discharge within a day. I'm going to replace them with non-rechargeable lithium batteries, which are rated for 300 shots.

Overall an excellent camera and printer. I recommended it for anyone wanting a digital "point & shoot" camera.

Sony HXR-NX3D1 NXCAM 3D Compact Camcorder, Dual CMOS Sensor, 10x 3D Optical Zoom, 3.5 inch LCD, 96G

I've do a bit of aerial photography, and recently I decided to take the plunge and try it in 3D. Although I tend to use Canon video gear, it looks like Sony has made a significant investment in 3D. Sony seems to have the greatest range of products on the market so far, and the NX3D1 seemed like the right product for my needs.

There's a lot to like about this camera, from the overall construction and "feel" to the quality of the videos you can produce. Although I haven't used Sony camcorders in a long time, everything felt comfortable to me, from the placement of the controls to the overall balance. In my aerial photography ventures, the camera rides attached to a small radio-controlled helicopter in a custom housing that gives me remote monitoring, as well as pan, tilt and zoom capabilities. Adapting the camera and remote to my (admittedly unusual) needs has been pretty simple, so I give Sony high marks in this regard. Sony customer service went above and beyond to get me wiring diagrams and information about the remote control protocol so that I could adapt the NX3D1 to my needs very impressed with their service.

Originally, I was somewhat torn between this unit and its big brother, the PMW-TD300. While much more expensive, the TD300 gives you up to 35Mb/s bitrates substantially more than the 28 Mb/s on the NX3D1. My Canon 2D video equipment produces 50Mb/s, and I was worried that the NX3D1 would reveal compression artifacts or have other quality issues related to the lower bitrate. Unfortunately, the TD300 is heavier than my equipment can lift, so in the end, the NX3D1 was my only choice. In the end, I suppose for 2D video, I'll keep using my Canon but the stunning 3D videos you get from the NX3D1 make it easy to overlook issues like bitrates.

When used in still image or 2D mode, image quality is good, but not terrific. Exposure is spot-on, the lenses are sharp and contrasty, and the autofocus system keeps up with whatever you point the camera at. Still, the relatively small sensors used in camcorders don't have the dynamic range, low-light performance or noise qualities of larger cameras (say, your DSLR in movie capture mode). Of course, you probably buy this sort of camera for 3D, and so 2D or still picture performance is no doubt of secondary importance.

Sony does an excellent job with image stabilization on the NX3D1. Even in my aerial photography setup (which tortures most image stabilization solutions!), videos are generally smooth and fluid probably the best I've seen on any brand of camcorder. Sound quality is likewise quite good, whether you use the built-in microphone or the XLR inputs. The 96GB storage capacity is plenty for me, and Sony makes it fairly painless to offload to an external drive or simply carry lots of SD memory cards. Battery life is reasonable I get about 2-3 hours depending on whether I have the microphone attached or not, and there's a larger capacity battery if run-time is important to you.

While I'm new to 3D, I didn't find it especially difficult to adjust and configure the 3D settings to get topnotch video. The 3.5" LCD is clear and bright, even in daylight, and the "no-glasses" 3D mode gives you a good idea of what the final product will look like. The one challenge I had with 3D was in editing and post processing. My 2D equipment and Adobe-based software just doesn't cut it for 3D, and to be honest, I still don't feel as though I have a great solution here. Of course, this isn't Sony's fault I need to upgrade to 3D capable monitors, software, etc.

Overall, I like the Sony NX3D1 a lot and I'm glad I gave it a try. Although I feel like 3D is a big step and there are still some missing pieces, the Sony NX3D1 is a big part of the equation, and I don't think you'd regret going with one.

I've been shooting with the Sony 3D NX Cam since 8-2011. I took 2 of them to Africa to film a safari. The camera is lightweight with great image quality. The touch screen view finder allows the user to control all aspects of the image settings. You can switch from 2D to 3D shooting modes with the flick of a switch and it has great low light capabilities. So far I've shot stunning footage of Nature, wildlife, people, buildings etc: I promise you will fall in love with this camera too. Welcome to the new age of 3D cinematography.

I'd recommend this. Though, I can't tell how durable it is until after years of use but operation and controls are very good, color is as good as LCD monitor, and brightness is ample even at lower intensity setting.

What makes this camcorder nice is the fact that it is very easy to use. You can keep this as simple as you like, or you can spend some time and learn the more advanced features - but they are optional and learning them will not get in your way of making great home movies.

With no knowledge of camcorders and a basic understanding of how to connect the power to the cam so that you can charge the battery, you can start making movies.

Video quality is superb and the sound recording works very good. When compared to my old analog tapes the quality of a digital recording is amazing.

Once you master the basics (which is all you ever actually need to know) you can advance at your own pace and learn how to fade in and out and add great titles. Sony provides a number of easy to use titles that overlay on your recordings, or you can make your own.

The instruction booklet is thick with detailed explanations of what, why and when but the first few pages use pictures and simplicity to explain how to use this unit right out of the box.

One great new feature: Sony has made it easy with scroll wheel that also depresses and allows you to navigate many menus with only your thumb.

I connected my TRV730 directly to my new desktop using the Firewire cable (included with your camcorder!) and loaded the software (Studio DV) that came with my computer (HP Digital Video Desktop System) and within minutes I was controlling my camera from the computer. There is also a USB port if you do not have Firewire capabilites.

I was able to upload several hours of old movies up and into the computer with no problems at all. This unit is backwards compatible (the TRV130 and TRV830 are NOT!) so you can view all of your old analog based recordings.

These new Lithium ION based batteries are great because you can charge them anytime you like without affecting the "memory" and you can charge the unit without ever removing the battery.

I have other cameras that use the first generation lithium-ions and found them to be great batteries that lasted and lasted. These next generation ones are simply smaller with the same amount of power.

Nightshot works great in low light conditions and SUPERnightshot makes it possible to record in virtual darkness. I walked outside on a pitch black night and zoomed in on the license plate of a car across the street and it read perfectly. No way could I read that plate with my own eyes and I have great vision.

The Steadyshot is seamless and works well. My last camcorder (the analog one) did not have this feature and you can tell the difference in my recordings. When you are zooming in, the effect of Steadyshot is increased.

The bottom line is that this camera has a lot of nice features that make it worth the price. The most important feature is that it is easy to use and the controls are intuitive so you can start using your camera as soon as it is charged.

I am a pro-Sony consumer and have spent thousands of dollars on various Sony items. I do this because they WORK and when they don't, Sony stands behind their products with a warranty.

You REALLY don't need those expensive in-house warranties sold at Circuit City and Best Buy, despite what you may read in other reviews. The only decision you should be making is where to save the most money.

I purchased this camera over a week ago and have time to thoroughly test this camera. I have tested every feature and am ready to review. I took this camcorder on a ride to Daytona Beach for Biketoberfest and didn't miss a single item that I wanted to film thanks to this camera and the accessories I purchased. If I could give this camera 4.5 stars I would.

Video Quality: 4.5 Stars

The video quality is great -good light or bad. There is a slight delay in the auto-focus if lighting fluctuates or if there are items close and distant from the camera. This is especially noticeable immediately after you turn the camera on. Once the camera has done its initial focus it is pretty quick. Of course, you are welcome to try to use manual focusing but it too would take you that long to switch to manual focus and then adjust the display.

Night Shot: 4.0 Stars

Night shot is better than most cameras. However, it appears as if you are shining a green flashlight into the dark. The "Super Night Shot" feature is worthless to me. The sample rate is slow and the video unfocused 75% of the time. This feature could have been exchanged for something else useful. I will say that the regular night shot is crisp and clear as opposed to snowy / grainy like other digital camcorders.

Zoom: 4.0 Stars

The zoom is steady and crisp.

Sound Pickup / Microphone: 4.0 Stars

The microphone picks up the zoom button if you "flick" it on and off rather than "ease" it. Play with it for a while and practice before you start taking video that has important audio with it. The microphone is otherwise good. It picks up all the sound you want and keeps the unwanted background sound to a minimum. If you think it needs improvement you can purchase the external microphone kit or use your own mic plugged into the external mic port.

In-Camera Video Editing: 3.5 Stars

The in-camera video editing options are nice to have if you blew all your money on the camera and don't have the $$ to spend on the firewire card to do your editing on the computer.

Included Software: 3.0 Stars

The software does the work easily but lacks some features. I recommend trying a few other shareware versions of other products before you settle into the provided software.

This kit is called EZ Editor. The kit gives you an internal PCI two-port firewire card, a firewire cable, and Pinnacle Studio 7 SE. The software is very easy to use, and very effective. You can upgrade the software to a more professional feel for about $49 online. The installation of the card is easy, the software is simple and has a multitude of features and is 100% compatible with the camera.

Summary:

This camera is great all around. It has every port for input and output that you would want (under current standards). The instructions are GREAT. Thank goodness they finally developed a manual written in English -and English only! Now you don't have to flip around trying to find the portions that you understand.

I know I have pushed a few accessories here. I'm not a salesman or a Sony representative. My feeling, however, is that accessorizing makes the camera. This camera is nice by itself but is much more convenient once you add the things that make your life easier.

Each person may need different accessories (which is why they aren't included in the camera package) so use the information provided here to help you decide if you need these accessories or not.

I would recommend that you take the time to step through the owners manual and test each feature that they walk you through. It will prevent you from introducing yourself to the feature at a time when you'd rather be filming. If you purchase the carrying case, the manual fits snug into the front pocket. Keep it there and reference it.

Lastly, I recommend buying a warranty with your camera. Cleanings are recommended every 6 months, this is still a new technology and the warranty doesn't cost that much. I purchased my camera at Best Buy with the warranty. I can bring my camera into Best Buy for a free cleaning as often as I like. I have unlimited repair or replacement of my product should it need replaced. I don't usually buy these warranties, but when you spend this much on a camera, consider this insurance!

This camera obviously has great features at its reasonable price. The night vision is a very creative (however unnecissary) feature that I found to be fun to show to your friends however not needed for filming very often. Unfortunatly, you may find yourself using nightvision often because as you take stills in lower light conditions the quality decreases. This decrease is only noticed when looking at the pictures on a computer or on paper (or when looking at movies on a TV screen). However, this camera tends to be cheaper than most others because it records in a Digital 8 format. In other words, it records digitally on to regular Hi8 tapes which are generally cheaper than most miniDV tapes. However, keep in mind if you buy a 120 minute Hi8 tape, this camera will only record 60 minutes on to it because the data takes more room. The camera, however, is very user friendly and can run almost completely automatically as well as manually. The autofocus is very efficient along with an excellent optical zoom and an oustanding digital zoom (although quality does decrease with digital zoom). The camera acts extremely well in brighter conditions and clearly out performs many other cameras, it's the indoor low light coniditions that still need plenty of work.

I bought this camcorder 10 days before.

Earlier I had Panasonic PV DV800. I returned that one because I wasn't happy about video quality.

I liked TRV 730.

Pros :

Day light video quality is superb. Except night time it is not quite good. Mega Pixel digital photo is quite satisfactory.

USB support is very useful. You can just connect to computer and your camcorder will become virtual disk. It is pretty sleek and data transfer is fast.

Cons.

Memory is just 4 MB. I could hardly take 5 photos with high resolution. Separate Battery charger could be better. At night time even there is plenty of light, picture seems little dark.

Final Word:

There are many DV camcorder cheaper than this one. I will still recommend this based on quality. I found this digital 8 better than other DV's. Overall this is best bet.

My comments on this camcorder are to help those who are not into specs but just plain English about this product.

First, my dislikes about this camera is

1. Black/White electric viewfinder but the view is bright and clear

2. Don't expect to take great clear 35mm quality still pictures. The print quality is a bit grainy. You are better off buying a separate camera for still pictures; but at times, it adds excitement having a still shot here and there on your video recordings.

*Now, the good stuff* this is why this camcorder is rated a 5 (Best) *PICTURE QUALITY

This is the best video picture quality camcorder that I have owned. I previously owned a Canon UC20 with 410,000 pixels (great picture quality). This Sony DCR-TRV730 has at least 1,070,000 (according to the manual) pixels, which produces great color, clear and sharp video quality video recordings.

*Minimum Illumination needed is seven Lux/ zero Lux NightShot modes*

I was most impressed with the "Infra-Red NightShot" capability. Again, clear, sharp pictures. I put this camera through a test and I did not use my optional "HVL-IRH2 Video Light" by recording in a room (with people inside the room) that was very dark all lights were out and no sunlight. I was amazed with its quality and the clearness. The built-in infrared light was sufficient for a 20' X 30' size room. Note NightShot will produce monochrome color. When I turn on my optional "HVL-IRH2 Video Light" (which has the capability of using its infrared or halogen lighting) the distance shooting was even greater and brighter, sharper picture quality. I advise purchasing an optional video light for inside recording, so you will get brighter, truer color and clarity. Even without the video light, normal room lighting still produced nice quality, clear video pictures. With the NightShot turned off and no optional video light, you will need sufficient room lighting in order to have excellent picture quality.

*Built-in 18X Optical /500X Digital Lens*

I also purchased the optional Sony .7x 37mm Digital Camcorder High Resolution Wide-Angle Conversion Lens (VCL-HG0737X). This added additional width and depth to my recording. The built-in lens did not have sufficient "width" for my recording in small close areas inside my home.

The supplied Infolithium battery pack with the Accupower meter system is rated for approximately 2.5 hours of recording. I was only able to get approx. 1.3 hours due to the way I take pictures I work the camera focusing in and out and using the fade mode, giving my video more of a professional appeal. I also make use of the Still Picture mode and use the Memory Stick to save those still pictures. I then transfer the pictures onto my computer. This battery communicates with the camcorder. It tells you how much remaining power in the viewfinder and on the back of the LCD display. Great tool and accessory.

Super Steady Shot Picture Stabilization System allowed me to take smooth looking video even when I had the shakes. I put the camera through another test -I recorded a picture while riding in an old vehicle with poor shocks absorbers if it was the excellent sound quality, which allowed you to hear the bumps and dips while riding, but the picture was flawless.

*8 Different Picture Effects*

This camera also allow you to change the picture affects to Black and White, Sepia, Negative Art, Pastel, Solarization, Slim, Stretch and Mosaic. This just adds pure fun to the video recordings.

This camera also allows me to still view my old 8mm tapes. I now record using Hi8 mm tapes.

Overall, I would not trade in this camcorder for another brand. This camera produces crystal-clear Digital8 pictures and CD quality sound. This camera allows an amateur photographer to feel and produce professional quality pictures.

You will also need to purchase another/stronger battery packs for those extended recordings. If you plan to record your Childs school program or take a family trip to Disney World/Land, you will definitely need a stronger battery. I suggest the "NP-FM70 or the NP-FM91 InfoLithium battery pack. Depending on your purchase they are rated between 5.5 hours to 10 hours estimated recording time. You should also purchase an optional video light, such as "HVL-IRH2" (approx [amt]) and an optional wide angle high grade lens, such as the Sony VCL-HG0737X. I paid [amt] including shipping for these lens. The price I paid for this camera was [amt] (new) including shipping and 8meg memory media stick. I got a Great Deal. This camera alone estimated US selling price is [amt] without shipping and only 4meg memory media stick (standard with this model). Be prepared to pay at least [amt] + shipping charges for this model without the optional accessories.

COOLLCD HD2 7-Inch HDMI Monitor with HDMI in HDMI out Component in Composite in for DSLR CANON 5D 7D

This is a cool little LCD, (No pun intended) for the price and with HDMI in and out makes it even better. I gave it 4 stars because the zoom function is unusable and locks up the screen to a 480p res. I was able to get it back to 1080 by connecting to a blu ray player, but have not tried it again since with fear that it may happen again. I don't need to use this function since I shoot on Canon SLR's and it has that function built in. I don't want to hassle trying to send it back and thus far it seems to being doing the job.

JVC GR-X5US 5MP 3-CCD MiniDV Camcorder w/10x Optical Zoom

this is a very compact camcorder. However, the 5MP 3-CCD is useless if the lense is inferior. That's what happens to this JVC miniDV. The lense is not from any lense specialist, it's made by JVC itself. You have to look at the camcorder lense carefully to see "JVC video lense". The vidoe quality therefore is limited. There are tiny dots when you play it back on TV. I compared this with Sony DCR-HC96 and Panasonic PV-GS500 and decided that PV-GS500 is the best for the money.

This is a first class microscope.

Excellent value for the money. Excellent resolution, well-collimated. You need to know how to setup a microscope (it isn't terribly hard to do. Videos on youtube can help.

I have used microscopes costing many times this price which were no better. It seems they have other 'scopes with other capabilities.

Absolutely no issues with the Canon 200EG bag. It is as expected.

The accessories bundled with this bag however are not worth your money. Calling it them cheap would be overstating the quality. The tripod was a Precision Design brand and it is so cheap and flimsy, there is no way I would ever put my DSLR on it. The mount is horrible, cheap plastic and there is zero fluidity in the head movement. The legs and bracing are thin and weak such that the tripod has little stability.

The included "screen protectors" were "universal size" and had to be cut to size which was a hassle. Even worse was the "screen protector film" scratched so bad when using the included cardboard wedge applicator that I immediately removed the plastic protector from my screen. A piece of packaging tape could have provided the same level of protection.

Memory Card walletnot worthy of even keeping around.

The spare battery may the only redeeming aspect of this bundle. However, it is not OEM and given the quality of the other accessories, I'm not holding out much hope that the battery life will be all that great.

My advise to youfind the bag elsewhere for around $45 and but the other items separately.

This is a great deal for all new dSLR owners. I bought this mainly for the backpack, but then I found this kit (which was actually cheaper than the backpack by itself).

Canon backpack:

Genuine Canon product who has a lot of space and great protection. It is very comfortable to have on your back, and with tripod straps, it really makes carrying your dSLR a joy!

USB card reader:

A great little gadget that saves you a lot of trouble by connecting your whole camera to the computer. It will also extend the life time of your camera's battery by not having to turn it on and off just to transfer your picture

LCD protection:

3 pieces of LCD protection that has a "ruler" that you can cut out the desired shapes. I have not managed to successfully attaching the protection yet, so I think I will ask someone at our photo store to help me cut out the correct shape, since this is pretty difficult...

Memory Card wallet:

A memory card wallet with space for up to three memory cards

Battery:

A spare battery that really comes in handy when you are going to take a lot of picture and do not have any power outlet nearby.

Tripod:

I was a bit disappointing over the height of the Tripod, since it was too low for my preferences. But by all means, it is a great tripod for having on tables.

Cleaning kit:

A nice cleaning kit for the price of the whole backpack kit. You can get a lot better quality cleaning kit, but it does the work.

Back up software:

I have not tried this, but as all the other products are of great quality, i guess this will be too!

I couldn't believe the deal. I got the backpack and it was legit Canon. The battery works great. I use it as a backup since it doesn't have the smart chip in it....but why pay $100 for a battery??? Tripod was cheap but does the job fine....especially if you didn't have a tripod to begin with. Amazing deal!
