DXG USA DXG-535VP HD Riviera 720p High-Definition Camcorder Luxe Collection, Pink

DXG USA DXG-535VP HD Riviera 720p High-Definition Camcorder Luxe Collection, PinkFor the price and design, my fiance loved it. It was perfect and the price can't be beat. Hi resolution is what we needed for our time away from each other. I got her a 32G memory card and it was perfect for easy transfer to a computer to put on a dvd disc. Highly recommended for just the casual or regular video maker=-)

I absolutely love this camera! First off, it is too cute! Pink with rhinestones!!! The carry case is also adorable! I've gotten so many compliments on the look of this camera! And it takes pretty good video too! Love it!

This is a gift for my 9yr. old daughter. She loves the studded design, color and case. She used it for Christmas and loved the picture quality and easy handling. She loved being able to connect the camera to the TV, PC, and her labtop. The CD disk with a video editing program was great as well.

I have had issues with DXG in the past. Item functions great, then malfunctions or stops working after a few uses and nothing to explain why. No bumps or drops, they just stop functioning. I advised against the purchase, but my daughter wanted "pink". Now she's unhappy and I have to scramble for new "satisfactory color" camera before vacation.

Pentax X-5 Megazoom 16.0 MP Digital Camera (Silver) with 32GB Card + Batteries/Charger + Case + Fle

Pentax X-5 Megazoom 16.0 MP Digital Camera with 32GB Card + Batteries/Charger + Case + Flex Tripod + Accessory KitI bought this before a trip overseas. There is a car museum I like and I wanted better pictures on this trip. WOW. This camera behaved fantastically. I took photography classes years ago, and could fuss with the manual settings, but the point and shoot capabilities of this camera makes me not bother. I shot just shy of 1000 photos in 5 hours with pretty awful lighting and it did great. Most were taken without the flash and its image stabilization was spot on. The controls are pretty easy to figure out.

This is the perfect camera between the Point-and-shoot range and the wiz-bang range. To me, it was the deal of the year. The Free Bag in the kit was not all that great. It is well made but not shaped well for the bulk of this camera.

Big plus, long life on the batteries. Bigger plus, AA batteries!!!

I ordered this Pentax X-5 camera kit as a Christmas gift and have been very impressed with the camera & the accesory kit. We took it to Gatlinburg TN for New Years Eve and took some outstanding pictures of the ball drop. I was also very happy with the quick delivery before Christmas. Great job Amazon & Cameta Camera. I will gladly recommend this camera & distributors to anyone.Pentax X-5 Megazoom 16.0 MP Digital Camera (Silver) with 16GB Card + Batteries/Charger + Case + 2 Tripods + Accessory Kit

Nikon D3S 12.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD and 24fps 720p HD Video Capability (Bod

Nikon D3S 12.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD and 24fps 720p HD Video CapabilityUpdate: Images up to ISO 51,200 have very acceptable levels of noise (very little). Worst case, I touched up with Dfine 2.0 (noise reduction software) and they look nearly perfect. I experimented with the movie mode. The camera took some very nice looking videos in extremely low light. I don't know what ISO it used, but it must be hitting ISO 102,400 at times. The video and sound using the internal microphone are really good. I may add an external stereo mic in the future if I shoot video. I should have known, you can't shoot movies in vertical format -of course -but I did take some that way before I realized that format doesn't work when you play back on a TV.

I've now got a growing collection of images in various conditions and remain extremely pleased with this camera.

-----------------

I received my new Nikon D3S only a couple of days ago, and my early testing of this camera has already proven it to be much more than I expected. I took a few dozen test shots in nearly complete darkness and with relatively little noise the shots look like they were taken in fairly bright lighting. I am very impressed. In fact, I would even say they are unbelievable.

I love the new "info" button. I passed over the written material before the camera arrived thinking: who cares. Well, I find it to be an extremely helpful feature. When you press the "info" button, it shows not only the exposure settings, but gives you immediate access to several of the relevant menu options that you can then immediately access and make changes. I find this to be very quick and useful.

The D3S seems a bit bigger than my Nikon D2Xs and other professional bodies I use, but it feels like it's built absolutely solid. Of course, since the D3S is an FX (full frame) sensor, I have heavier lenses attached and in my bag too. I love the D3S ergonomics and the programmable function and other buttons (programmable AE/AL and Preview button). I hate to fumble with menus in the field (sorry Canon 1ds Mark III and 5D Mark IV and others, but Nikon has you beat here), and the Nikon gives fast access to all the key settings.

I haven't done extensive image tests yet, but my first impression is the images are superb, color is very accurate and auto focus is very fast and accurate, even in what I'd call "no light." I have usable images at ISO 102,400 (an amazing seven full stops better than other pro-bodies I use). At this point, I still can't believe how good images look at ISO 102,400, and images at ISO 51,200 and 25,600 look nearly perfect with either no high ISO NR (noise reduction) or standard NR.

Looking at my images at high magnification and they appear much clearer than even higher megapixel resolution bodies I use. I am now finally convinced beyond any doubt that megapixel is more of a marketing ploy than meaningful for professional photographers and other factors are more important.

As a pro who uses high end digital bodies, this is my first choice (maybe my only choice) for most assignments. I do a fair amount of studio work and thought I might opt for the Nikon D3X or even a Canon body since high ISO is not important, but this camera is so good I may use it for all my photography work in all conditions. If I really need high-end studio shots, I'll perhaps use my Mamiya with a digital back or even rent a Hasselblad.

The Nikon D3s is an amazing camera and I love it. The vast majority of people looking at buying this camera are talking about it's ISO and low light abilities. Even though there is alot more to this camera than it's amazing new ISO abilities, lets start with it's most unique feature and major selling point.

How good does it's ISO get? How about 12,800! The ISO can be pushed up to 102,400 using the Hi ISO settings.

My tests Nikon D3s combined with the Nikkor 24-70 2.8 Lens.

I tested the camera at 400 ISO, 800 ISO, 1,600 ISO, 3,200 ISO, 6,400 ISO, and 12,800 ISO both inside in low light and outside at night. I have also tested the Hi 3 or 102,400 ISO setting

The ISO settings look really great up through the 3,200 mark. After that one can a little notice grain/noise up to the 12,800 ISO point. I would not hesitate at all running this camera at 1,600 or 3,200 ISO. BTW Pictures taken at 12,800 are usable. They look really good. But there is a little noise as I said. The 102,400 setting creates all sorts of noise/grain, but that should be expected. So far the pictures I've take at the highest setting basically turns this camera into your own "night vision" camera. It can see in very dark surroundings.

More on the D3s

This camera is rugged. Over the holidays, I had it outside in snow storms, rain, and sub freezing temperatures. It performed flawlessly.

Info button New to the D3s and really nice. It displays information such as f-stop, shutter speed, mode, and remaining pictures on monitor/display screen on the back

Live view there are 2 setting here. One for a tripod and one for handheld use. Turn this on, and you have a view of what you see through the viewfinder on your back monitor. I personally don't use this alot, but can see why others would.

Accurate and fast auto focus using the 24-70 2.8 lens and my 14-24 2.8 lens

HD Video at 720p

Amazing 9 fps. Yes, I tested this, and I love it. I shoot motorsports and was hampered by the slower D2Xs as well as the smaller buffer on the D2Xs

Sensor cleaning done through the menu system on the back monitor.

Quiet mode (Which isn't that much quieter than the default sound)

51 point Auto Focus system

FX metering system (remember if you use a DX lens on this camera, the FX sensor with crop your photo. It appears like a gray box inside the vewfinder cropping your edges)

My Favorite addition (actually useful and I love it) The Virtual Horizon. This looks like something you would find in the cockpit of an airplane and not a camera, but here it is in the D3s. It is a line that gives the photographer the correct horizon. Why is this so cool? Imagine anything from nature photography in the mountains (like standing on a slope) to photographing motorsports on a banked oval track (that would be me). Here is the function that allows photos to have proper alignment. I could see this function being used both on a tripod and hand held.

*Update on pictures*

Having spent more time photographing in low light, the 12,800 ISO setting is mind blowing.

Pictures outside at night I took pictures of dark lawns, streets, and some holiday lights. Contrast is good as is saturation. There is some grain/noise, but it is uniform and not that bad.

Pictures in dimly lit rooms less noise and the colors and saturation are great. These images were sharp too. I toggled between manual mode and program mode to fool with the depth of field and bokeh. The brighter the room, the less the noise/grain. (Again these are ALL situations that would have required a flash with any other camera)

Pictures of stars Yup. Stars in the sky. I was actually able to hand hold this camera, aim it in the sky and snap a picture of stars. The picture didn't look that great, but considering I did it on a whim it was still really neat. (The camera picked up alot of haze in the sky. I think away from the city, the photos would be a lot better)

I've now taken well over 1,000 pictures with the D3s and it is easily the best camera I have owned. I am really impressed

---------------------------

Update on one D3s issue DPreview forums have reported numerous instances of D3s with a slow focus problem. They say it is a firmware bug. I have NOT had any issues and I am 2,000+ photos into my D3s. That includes many lowlight shoots.

I initially started this comment as a reply to someone who asked why anyone would need a camera that goes higher than 12,000 ISO unless you wanted to take pictures in a closet, especially since you can get a much less expensive consumer-level DSLR with more mega pixels and higher resolution video. I decided to post my response here with the hope than someone else might find it to be useful:

For the past couple of years, I have been using a Nikon D80, which from all the reviews I have read competes fairly well with other cameras in this class. I am not a professional photographer, but I enjoy photography enough that the limitations this consumer-level DSLR seems to have became a source of frustration to me.

I recently upgraded to a D3S, and I am absolutely amazed at the difference between the two cameras. The D3S is ten times the camera--and not because of the marginal difference in mega pixels.

It's not all about being able to take pictures in near darkness either. I take a lot of wildlife pictures with a solid, f 4.5 70-300mm zoom lens (popular because of its good price/performance tradeoff), and with my D80, if I am zoom out much at all, it has to be a bright sunny day to get really good pictures. Cloud cover and even shade results in quite a bit of color noise and a loss of detail, even at ISO settings as low as 400, and I almost always have to shoot with the aperture wide open to mitigate these problems, which, of course, limits my flexibility in terms of depth of field and tends to wash out bright areas. It is also very difficult to stop the motion of things like birds in flight with the low ISO settings that are required to avoid color noise and loss of detail. This is a very frustrating tradeoff to have to make.

With my D80, I have also noticed that the shading gradation of things like fog and shadows in snow is fairly limited--to the point where pictures of things with subtle shading almost always look washed out or have very little detail. The D3S, on the other hand, has an amazing amount of detail no matter what the subject is, no matter how subtle the shading and despite poor lighting conditions. (For the first time ever, I have been able to take pictures of things like fog rolling over a lake and have it show up just the way my eyes see it! No more blending of subtle shades into a single patch of white.)

My D80 also struggles to be consistent with color balance and metering. The D3S is almost always dead on in terms of color balance and metering and is faster and more consistently accurate with its auto focus.

The fact that the D3S's image sensor does such a great job in low light situations has opened up new possibilities for me. I can even stop down my slow f 4.5 300mm zoom lens significantly at any focal length and get outstanding results, even on a cloudy day. Think about the possibilities this opens up in terms of lens choices. As an amateur, I simply cannot afford the 10K-a-pop, fast professional lenses, but now I can get great pictures with slower, less expensive lenses, and I can actually extend the capabilities of the lenses I have with things like teleconverters and still get good results. In this sense, the D3S is a bargain.

I have mostly mentioned the quality of the pictures this camera takes, and I do not intend to go into its rich feature set and build quality (other comments below have already done this), but I did want to tell you about some of the considerable advantages I have found with the D3S and tell you about the outstanding results that I have been getting. I am amazed at the quality of the pictures this camera takes, and I am thrilled with the way this camera performs! This camera is in an entirely different class than the consumer-level DSLRs I have used in the past.

I was using a Canon 5D Mark II camera for over a year but became more and more disappointed with it as time went on. The focusing system used on the Canon was poor and the high ISO was good but not great.

Finally tiring of the soft focus of the 5D Mark II, I decided to either upgrade to the 1D Mark IV or the Nikon D3S. The decision was a very painful one to make and I dwelled on the subject for weeks before making a decision.

I finally decided on the Nikon D3S because of its full frame sensor and how its relatively large pixel size would be an advantage in low light situations (i.e., High ISO). Also, it didn't hurt that it was available right away through Amazon and I needed it for my trip to Europe at the end of December.

Now, after having used the Nikon D3S for around 2 months in a variety of situations I can say without hesitation that this is the finest DSLR available. Its ability to shoot sports action in low light is stunning and the focus is very responsive and always spot on! The lenses which I have purchased have all been superior to their Canon equivalent counterparts. Although, the Nikon does have some wholes in their lineup, most notably the the 85mm f/1.2.

While I believe that the filming features of the 1D Mark IV are likely superior it was a mute point for me after a year of experiences with the 5d Mark II. Unless you are very serious you will not get good results filming with any DSLR so I did not consider this when deciding which camera to buy.

In conclusion, I was very nervous about buying the Nikon D3S instead of the Canon 1D Mark IV. However, after using the D3S in a variety of situations I have absolutely fallen in love with this camera.

Having shot with Canon for the last 15 yrs, moving over to Nikon was not an easy decision. I had a decent collection of lenses and the 1D Mark II was beginning to show its age. The mark III had its issues and the mark IV had shown promise.

Many friends asked why switch now? Simply put, low light is where I shoot most of my jobs. Nikon at the moment has the advantage. Selling my Canon gear was the big question. I ended up selling ALL my gear (1D Mark II, 135L, 28-70L, 70-200L IS, 35L, 85, 100 macro, and 580EX) in 1 week CASH... It covered the D3s, 24-70, and most of the 70-200 VRII.

While I waited for my gear to sell, I rented the D3s for a week along with Nikon's recent additions -14-24, 24-70, and 70-200 VR II. The images from the D3s with the aforementioned lenses were quite simply just amazingly sharp with minimal noise.

One can read the many reviews of the D3s out there.

Here's what impressed me about the D3s:

1. Ergonomics -well designed button placements, easy to nagigate menus, buttons for metering/shooting speed/autofocus.

2. Image quality -AMAZING images at high ISO. Check out Rob Galbraith's images.

3. 9 fps full sized RAW files/11 fps DX files

4. Screen size (a big change from my 1D Mark II)

5. Autofocus is stellar even in low light. I've not had issues like others have described.

6. I like 2CF cards vs 1 CF and 1 SD. Using Photofast Plus 32GB ($250) and no problems.

7. self cleaning sensor

Other things that impressed me about Nikon:

1. 5 year lens warranty vs Canon's 1 year

2. 24-70 images are sharper than my 28-70 Canon

3. 70-200 VRII images better than my Canon 2.8L IS

Suggestions for improvment:

1. selection of autofocus point with the back button. I think Canon's method appeals to me better.

2. Battery life is not the 4000 shots as advertised. Not sure if these are done with jpeg images, but I gotten ~ 1500 shots with 14 bit RAW images, a fair amount of chimping, and occasional video.

3. Focusing on video mode needs improvement. Its clunky and slow.

4. Video -meh...great in a pinch, but its not a high priority for me. Others I'm sure feel differently. Canon's got the upper hand for now.

I like the direction that Nikon has choosen. Image quality over megapixels. Its a balanced camera with more than enough features for me. If you do advertising or need high resolution, the D3x is for you. This is a professional camera inside and out. Its worth every penny I've put out for the body and Nikon's lenses. I have no regrets!

---------------------------

Update Dec 22, 2010:

The D3s continues to impress. Took it to the Billabong Pipeline Masters surf competition a few weeks ago. Pared with the 200-400 VR, I was able to get some fantastic images. If I could do things better the "next" time, I'd take a 500 or 600 VR. AF was spot on tracking was not a problem in the least.

Auto ISO has been a hidden surprise when I moved to Nikon. My 1D Mark II didn't have it, but the new Canon models do. I like Nikon's version as it allows me to be in manual mode (allows me to set the shutter and aperture) and the ISO changes to keep the SS and aperture fixed. It allows me to control DOF and stopping motion in sports! This allows me to focus on composition and being a photographer rather than on the technical aspects.

Konica Minolta Dimage G600 6MP Digital Camera with 3X Optical Zoom

Konica Minolta Dimage G600 6MP Digital Camera with 3X Optical ZoomOpinion

Fredrik in Sweden.

I had a 3 Mpix Olympus D-550 (C-300) for 12 months and it has been very difficult to find a better camera when it broke.

I first bought a Casio QV 5700, a semi-big and very sophisticated camera. It had all the features I wished for, bright optics, manual settings etc. but the size and ancient slow action bothered me. I swiftly returned it.

I realized I wanted something pocketable with great performance. Since no reviews on the web met my demands I finally went for the G600, the heir of a test winner, unreviewed until now.

---

The G600 with a spare battery and 512 Mb is a good setup. After the first charge of 14 hours the battery was good for 250 images (no flash, always display and 3 unloads) The very first charge also charges the onboard memory battery so it will perform better after that. It also takes 10 cycles before the battery is ripe. I expect 300-350 images.

Charging takes 2 hours with the bundled charger, neat.

---

A normal image in fine mode takes up about 1500-2800 kb of space. => 240 images on my SD card.

---

The shutter lag is ok, but not as awesome as I got the impression of. (with focus lock it is pretty instant)

I flung a stick into the evening air and shot it while it fell and the result was really neat and sharp. (See sample)

Startup time is really quick.

---

The size is dreamy. You can hardly feel it is in your front pocket on a pair of tight jeans. The metal gives it a sturdy feel.

The blue LED's on the front are a nuissance. They provide extra light for focusing etc. I don't know when they are activated, or if I can turn it off.

---

I have some sample images for you here.

All handheld on a grey spring evening in Sweden.

this page.

Problems

I dislike using flash, as a result indoor images turn up dark.

Some are VERY dark with the automatic setting in spite of normal illumination.

I somewhat enhanced this by increasing ISO to 200.

Still not as good as my Olympus D-550 (C-300) in low light. I feel it necessery to switch between ISO modes for indoor and outdoor shots. Requires clicking in the menu.

The G600 wants to use flash at all times indoors. Flash make the pictures flat and boring. I want to capture atmosphere, not cold hard vectors.

---

The Automatic "focus depth" was very tight.

If I focus on my face, the eyes look great but the nose gets blurry. (My nose isn't huge). I am not sure how to compensate for this. (still learning)

In macro mode this is apparent when shooting a fat larva where half the larva is out of focus. Unless you only photograph coins... this is a problem.

---

In the evening, the automatic light control make the images a tad less bright and less in contrast than real life. Increasing brightness and contrast +25 and +25 in Pshop helps evening pictures.

I suspect this can be adjusted in the white balance settings.

Much of this can be compensated for, with internal tweaking, once and for all. The colors overall are very natural and life like.

---

The multi spot autofocus tend to pick the items in the background and not the thing I want to shoot.

I saw no reason to use spot metering until I got the G600.

---

The amount of "flawed images" are less than with the Casio, and I think that when I get used to this one it will perform as well as the point and shoot Olympus. I am well on my way.

---

I would love it if it had a "speed dial" to chose

between different scene modes.

The sound and avi format works very well.

16 seconds amount only to 2800 kb.

---

I'd rather they had two compartments for batteries than two for memory cards. Running out of juice is a bummer when you are to shoot the sunset from the top of a hill.

---

Some would say that the zoom is too fast.

It is, like the Borg would say, ...efficient.

---

It could be easier to record sound and movies. The menu system requires clicking... clicking...

---

I need to test the lense and ccd more, with some colorful sunsets, but so far the quality is really nice. I can count individual strains of hair on my head on my images. I'll keep this one, because it is portable and creates great images under the right conditions and decent images under strain.

A third battery may be an investment.

Manual settings will work out some of my problems.

(Most shot with the Olympus, but that will change.)

I love this camera. I wanted a small camera. I looked at the Cannon Elph. After reading negative comments on the internet about the E-18 error problem and knowing a friend who had problems with the E-18 error right out of the box I decided to pass.

I have a bigger camera with many features, the Sony F717, and I love the pictures it takes. I guess it spoiled me because after seing another friends small Sony camera the picture quality was not as nice even with the higher megapixels. I had to purchase Sony Memory cards and after purchasing several(expensive) I wanted a small camera that could use them.

My old small point and shoot which finaly died used SDcards. I was resigned to switching but still wanted to be able to use my SDcards because I hate to waste money.

This camera seemed to be the answer to my dilemma. It uses the two media cards I alreay own. It has a sturdy metal body. The layout/design of buttons is easy and simple. I love the fact that opening the lens turns the camera on and off. I purchased an extra battery and keep it in the charger. The charger comes with the camera and charges fast.

It is a great point and shoot and has many features if you want to do more. It is small and fits in my evening bag but is not so small/delicate that I worry about damage.

It has an optical viewer as well as an lcd screen. I thought this was critical. If you need to take a picture in bright sun or want to conserve battery life use the viewer. One of the things I did not like about my old point and shoot was it only had an lcd screen. I was very careful with it and damaged the screen while on vacation and could not use the camera. I had to buy some disposeables and send it for repairs when I got home.

Konica makes a great product. It may not be as sexy looking as some but it is great and I have yet to take a bad photo. Two media cards is terrific. I was at a good friends wedding and went to visit family and with both cards in the camera I had enough space to take pictures for the week. I took 800 pictures a couple of movies and still had plenty of space. I put in two 512MB cards and did not have to worry about carrying extra cards.

I love this camera! Hope this helps you in your search, happy hunting!

Good points:

1. The price is magnificent...you can get it for about $244.00 for 6Megapixels!(as of Jul-11-2005);

2. The quality of the pictures is excellent;

3. Battery Life is fairly good (about 280 flash pictures);

4. Takes BOTH SD and MemoryStick memory types;

5. Optical Zoom at 3X is about normal and works fine;

6. On-Off system is nice and simple;

7. FAST shutter speed (time from moment you press button to picture actually being taken); Canon is awful at this.

8. Very FAST Flash recovery time (picture-to-picture): about 1.5 seconds.

The problems are few, but very real:

1. Video is really limited to 30seconds no matter how much memory you have or what resolution you choose;

2. Doing anything other than taking pictures is a MESS...you have to go through the menus and the complicated button sequences...forget about my MOM using it for anything other than taking pictures;

3. Even VIEWING the pictures you took is a mess...having to go through the menus. If you're a gadget freak or a techie, you'll be just fine...but if it's for your mom or dad and they can't program their VCR, then look for a user-friendly camera (not this one, sorry!); they WILL end up erasing pictures they're trying to see...

4. The USB transfer cable is NOT standard...good luck if you travel and leave it at home (better have lots of memory and not lose the camera while traveling or you'll lose your memories before you get to transfer them!!);

5. Zoom controls could be better located.

Summary:

If you are a techie and don't need videos longer than 30seconds, this camera is great.

Cameras may be connected by video cable or wireless.

This system includes an audio intercom function.

Video feed can be piped from the monitoring station to other devices (TV, etc.)

Monitoring station permits up to 4 cameras to be attached, and can roll through them or display a 2x2 matrix of images.

Good:

Camera provides an image of sufficient quality for security purposes. If someone you knew walked into the field of view, you would be able to recognize them.

Setting this system up was exceedingly easy.

Video recording to SD card is possible. One SD card is included.

Night vision function works well.

Infrared lighting was more than ample to light subjects at the advertised 40 foot distance.

Wireless hook-up between monitoring station and camera is quick and, in my testing, automatic. Note that the documentation indicates that it may be necessary to "sync" the devices, which should not be hard.

Wireless connection works well, even through approx. 100 feet of wooden-construction house.

Monitoring station is configured via a simple menu system.

Bad:

Monitoring station's menu system could be more comprehensive. (I would have liked to turn down the contrast in the daytime.)

Pay Attention:

The camera housing is "water resistant", but not weather proof. I imagine that a reasonably sheltered mounting location (inside a car port, underneath a deep roof overhang), should sufficiently protect the camera. Just realize that it is not designed to sit out in the rain.

Daytime vision was nearly colorless in my experience.

Infrared LED lamps will create glare on windows and nearby objects, so window glass cannot be between the camera and its subject during infrared operation, and bushes, etc. should not be too near lamps or their "glow" will partially obscure the scene.

Overall, I found this to be a good quality product, which was very easy to set up. The camera provides a reasonable viewing angle and depth of focus for security purposes. Using the system was also quite easy. Assuming you avoid the few potential "gotchas", this would be an easy way to set up video surveillance system for a home or small business.

Privacy Note: One thing I was not able to determine was how hard it would be for anyone else to intercept the wireless video feed from these cameras.

My husband and I live on a 16 acre paradise. Because we are so "remote", we felt we needed a security camera system around our house. After reading up on different systems, we settled for this one. Reasons: it is wireless, records motion, has night vision, and has its own portable monitor. We thought it would suffice, but in fact, we sent it back to Amazon within a week.

Let's be clear: we are sure this system is perfect for others, it just wasn't for us. Here is a summation of our reasons:

Our drive is about 24ft from the house. Although it still sees cars at that distance, the motion sensor only works up to 20 feet for any visitors on foot. Meaning that only if they are (un)kind enough to walk on the grass instead of the drive, the camera would detect them. Moving the camera closer to the drive was not option, so any pedestrians can easily pass the house undetected.

The clarity of the system was certainly not sufficient for our use. Beyond 10, 15ft, simply nothing is recognizable. My husband saw me walk by and did not even know me!

The colors are so washed out and/or distorted, that it is impossible to determine what color an object is. Green grass looks like it covered in snow, and you can't tell the color of people's clothing or cars.

The field of view is rather poor, compared with the system we recently purchased. Our new system can view up to 130 degrees per camera, and the Defender cameras only around 64 or so. We'd need three cameras just to monitor the front of the house, while now we can use 2 cameras to cover the full front and part of one side.

The recording is so slow to kick in, that a car driving by at 30km/h is already 3/4 past the camera before it is recorded. Our new system has some sort of buffer that back-records from the moment the motion starts... thus catching the full motion from start to finish.

Although I mention this last, in fact this is almost our biggest concern. Living in the Rockies, we have frequent power outages. To our dismay, the system does not come back after an outage, it says off until you manually push the power button. When we are away, any glitch in the power means our system is useless until we get back.

We are not putting down the product, it was just not sufficient for our needs. The advertising images were graphically rather misleading and the motion detection range is not mentioned anywhere, otherwise we would never have considered this system. We can certainly see how it may be suitable for people who make use of it as an intercom system, such as in an apartment building or office.

However, if one is looking for high definition, long distance outdoor usage, we would strongly recommend the Logitech Alert system. It is extremely easy to set up, does not require additional cable setups, allows for remote monitoring over the Internet (and thus all your computers and mobile devices). It has flexible and excellent motion detection. The image quality and colors are superb. The system appears to be more pricey, especially with additional cameras, but in our opinion, it is more than worth the difference.

As long term customers this is the first time that we returned a product. We were hoping to order the Logitech system instead, but sadly Amazon Canada does not stock the product and Amazon USA does not ship to Canada, so we purchased it from another company.

Buy Defender Digital Wireless DVR Security System with 7 Inch LCD Monitor, SD Card Recording and 2 Long Now

I bought this product based upon the wireless range. Amazon web site lists it as upto 450 feet. Confirmed this on manufacture's web site, listing the same 450 feet. Product arrived and I confirmed the product number. Box marking states 100 feet. Product manual in box states 100 feet with a maximum of 300 feet. I tried the two cameras and each is at a range of exactly 100 feet. There is one 3/4 inch wood sided wall and one tipical brick and gypsum wall in the path. Both cameras cut in and out. When they are receiving one camera indiates 2 to 4 bars on the signal strength indication, The other camera indicates 2 bars. I would take this to mean that there is adequate room to spare. THIS IS NOT THE CASE! I think the product needs to be honestly specified. A 450 foot range is definitely a joke.

The Defender PX301 is very easy to set-up and use. Small wires are used to power the 9 volt cameras & were easy to pull thru the wall (I followed along an existing tv cable). The included dvr is compact and immediately picked up a strong clear video from both wireless cameras. The day time picture is clear (color somewhat faded), The night picture is extremely clear (black, gray, white). Reviewing the recorded videos is much easier when the sd chip is viewed on a computer. Individual video clips (there are many coded clips) are shown with a simple thumbnail photo for each individual clip (very easy to pick-out the recording of interest). Videos can be paused & converted into still photos (jpeg for example).

I bought the wireless PX301 camera system, but Defender told me that the extesnion cable (if you need to locate the camera more than 6ft from power source) to go to a electronic store since Defender does not offer it for this particular system; that would be fine but all the stores that I went to says it is not available and I would need to get it from the mfg. The mfg was not helpful at all rather suggested that it is my problem. In addition, the quality of the picture is not very good. Another disturbing thing is that they provide an "important information booklet" that provides a customer support contact telephone number that redirects you to a sex hotline; their response was sorry it is an out dated booklet. It's interesting since I just received it 2 weeks ago.

JVC GRH-D1 High Definition MiniDV Camcorder w/10x Optical Zoom

JVC GRH-D1 High Definition MiniDV Camcorder w/10x Optical ZoomI bought this camcorder on September 28, 2003 when it was still fairly new on the market and more expensive than it is now. By July 2004 both the LCD screen and the viewfinder just went black. No image but I was still able to record audio. I reported it to JVC. They told me I had to send it in for repair, which I did. It seems that this was a common problem. They didn't ask too many questions. The warranty had already expired so I had to pay a couple hundred dollars. Six months later, the same problem again. I called JVC again and told them the problem. The technician who attended to me suggested that I turn it off and disconnect all power for about an hour and then try again because "that usually works." Now what kind of advice is that? I need this camera to shoot footage of events. What am I supposed to do each time this happens? Turn it off for an hour and ask the event organisers to postpone their events for an hour? Anyway, even that super solution didn't work, so I called again and they said I had to send it in for repair again. So I asked, would I have to be sending this camera in to you every six months? "No," she responded but "thank you for calling JVC."

The words I would like to use to describe this camera and JVC cannot be expressed here but do not buy this camera!!! For the short period of time that it did work, it was great, but I will never buy this or any other JVC product ever again.

I thought about fixing it and then selling it used but then my conscience wouldn't let me pass this problem on to someone else. So I decided to write this review.

At first I loved this mini HDV cam but, after it broke the first time it was the main button. Now the CCD is F-ed up. When I bought this unit I was offered the 5 year Mac cam warrinty. This is saving me the cost of a new one.

The JVC GRH-D1 was released two years ago as the world's first hi-def camcorder (at least the world's under-$5000 HD camcorder). It utilizes the new HDV format, developed by JVC and enhanced by Sony, JVC, Sharp and Canon. The GRH-D1 is by now the "granddaddy" of HDV camcorders but it's great for those aspiring to shoot HD video. It has a comfortable grip, great image quality, and loads of pro features. The iamge quality is definitely excellent. Shop around to find this for around $2000.

I got the JVC GR-HD1 on 2003. The camcorder still work OK. My only complaint is the camcorder is capable of recording in HD only on the tape but not on the memory card! Why?

Sony DCR-TRV730 Digital8 Handycam Camcorder with Built-in Digital Still Mode

Sony DCR-TRV730 Digital8 Handycam Camcorder with Built-in Digital Still ModeWhat makes this camcorder nice is the fact that it is very easy to use. You can keep this as simple as you like, or you can spend some time and learn the more advanced features - but they are optional and learning them will not get in your way of making great home movies.

With no knowledge of camcorders and a basic understanding of how to connect the power to the cam so that you can charge the battery, you can start making movies.

Video quality is superb and the sound recording works very good. When compared to my old analog tapes the quality of a digital recording is amazing.

Once you master the basics (which is all you ever actually need to know) you can advance at your own pace and learn how to fade in and out and add great titles. Sony provides a number of easy to use titles that overlay on your recordings, or you can make your own.

The instruction booklet is thick with detailed explanations of what, why and when but the first few pages use pictures and simplicity to explain how to use this unit right out of the box.

One great new feature: Sony has made it easy with scroll wheel that also depresses and allows you to navigate many menus with only your thumb.

I connected my TRV730 directly to my new desktop using the Firewire cable (included with your camcorder!) and loaded the software (Studio DV) that came with my computer (HP Digital Video Desktop System) and within minutes I was controlling my camera from the computer. There is also a USB port if you do not have Firewire capabilites.

I was able to upload several hours of old movies up and into the computer with no problems at all. This unit is backwards compatible (the TRV130 and TRV830 are NOT!) so you can view all of your old analog based recordings.

These new Lithium ION based batteries are great because you can charge them anytime you like without affecting the "memory" and you can charge the unit without ever removing the battery.

I have other cameras that use the first generation lithium-ions and found them to be great batteries that lasted and lasted. These next generation ones are simply smaller with the same amount of power.

Nightshot works great in low light conditions and SUPERnightshot makes it possible to record in virtual darkness. I walked outside on a pitch black night and zoomed in on the license plate of a car across the street and it read perfectly. No way could I read that plate with my own eyes and I have great vision.

The Steadyshot is seamless and works well. My last camcorder (the analog one) did not have this feature and you can tell the difference in my recordings. When you are zooming in, the effect of Steadyshot is increased.

The bottom line is that this camera has a lot of nice features that make it worth the price. The most important feature is that it is easy to use and the controls are intuitive so you can start using your camera as soon as it is charged.

I am a pro-Sony consumer and have spent thousands of dollars on various Sony items. I do this because they WORK and when they don't, Sony stands behind their products with a warranty.

You REALLY don't need those expensive in-house warranties sold at Circuit City and Best Buy, despite what you may read in other reviews. The only decision you should be making is where to save the most money.

I purchased this camera over a week ago and have time to thoroughly test this camera. I have tested every feature and am ready to review. I took this camcorder on a ride to Daytona Beach for Biketoberfest and didn't miss a single item that I wanted to film thanks to this camera and the accessories I purchased. If I could give this camera 4.5 stars I would.

Video Quality: 4.5 Stars

The video quality is great -good light or bad. There is a slight delay in the auto-focus if lighting fluctuates or if there are items close and distant from the camera. This is especially noticeable immediately after you turn the camera on. Once the camera has done its initial focus it is pretty quick. Of course, you are welcome to try to use manual focusing but it too would take you that long to switch to manual focus and then adjust the display.

Night Shot: 4.0 Stars

Night shot is better than most cameras. However, it appears as if you are shining a green flashlight into the dark. The "Super Night Shot" feature is worthless to me. The sample rate is slow and the video unfocused 75% of the time. This feature could have been exchanged for something else useful. I will say that the regular night shot is crisp and clear as opposed to snowy / grainy like other digital camcorders.

Zoom: 4.0 Stars

The zoom is steady and crisp.

Sound Pickup / Microphone: 4.0 Stars

The microphone picks up the zoom button if you "flick" it on and off rather than "ease" it. Play with it for a while and practice before you start taking video that has important audio with it. The microphone is otherwise good. It picks up all the sound you want and keeps the unwanted background sound to a minimum. If you think it needs improvement you can purchase the external microphone kit or use your own mic plugged into the external mic port.

In-Camera Video Editing: 3.5 Stars

The in-camera video editing options are nice to have if you blew all your money on the camera and don't have the $$ to spend on the firewire card to do your editing on the computer.

Included Software: 3.0 Stars

The software does the work easily but lacks some features. I recommend trying a few other shareware versions of other products before you settle into the provided software.

Recommended Updates:

Sony Handycam Camcorder Value Kit ($80) -

Includes Sony Carrying Case and an Extra Battery

The case will keep your investment protected. The extra battery allows you to keep filming while your other battery charges.

Ambico Lithium-Ion Battery Charger ($49) -

This kit allows you to plug the battery in the car charger or at home in a standard outlet. If you are going to be filming for an extended period of time, consider purchasing at least one extra battery and the charger. The Sony Kit provides the extra battery.

Sony DV Editing Kit ($89) -

This kit is called EZ Editor. The kit gives you an internal PCI two-port firewire card, a firewire cable, and Pinnacle Studio 7 SE. The software is very easy to use, and very effective. You can upgrade the software to a more professional feel for about $49 online. The installation of the card is easy, the software is simple and has a multitude of features and is 100% compatible with the camera.

Summary:

This camera is great all around. It has every port for input and output that you would want (under current standards). The instructions are GREAT. Thank goodness they finally developed a manual written in English -and English only! Now you don't have to flip around trying to find the portions that you understand.

I know I have pushed a few accessories here. I'm not a salesman or a Sony representative. My feeling, however, is that accessorizing makes the camera. This camera is nice by itself but is much more convenient once you add the things that make your life easier.

Each person may need different accessories (which is why they aren't included in the camera package) so use the information provided here to help you decide if you need these accessories or not.

I would recommend that you take the time to step through the owners manual and test each feature that they walk you through. It will prevent you from introducing yourself to the feature at a time when you'd rather be filming. If you purchase the carrying case, the manual fits snug into the front pocket. Keep it there and reference it.

Lastly, I recommend buying a warranty with your camera. Cleanings are recommended every 6 months, this is still a new technology and the warranty doesn't cost that much. I purchased my camera at Best Buy with the warranty. I can bring my camera into Best Buy for a free cleaning as often as I like. I have unlimited repair or replacement of my product should it need replaced. I don't usually buy these warranties, but when you spend this much on a camera, consider this insurance!

Buy Sony DCR-TRV730 Digital8 Handycam Camcorder with Built-in Digital Still Mode Now

This camera obviously has great features at its reasonable price. The night vision is a very creative (however unnecissary) feature that I found to be fun to show to your friends however not needed for filming very often. Unfortunatly, you may find yourself using nightvision often because as you take stills in lower light conditions the quality decreases. This decrease is only noticed when looking at the pictures on a computer or on paper (or when looking at movies on a TV screen). However, this camera tends to be cheaper than most others because it records in a Digital 8 format. In other words, it records digitally on to regular Hi8 tapes which are generally cheaper than most miniDV tapes. However, keep in mind if you buy a 120 minute Hi8 tape, this camera will only record 60 minutes on to it because the data takes more room. The camera, however, is very user friendly and can run almost completely automatically as well as manually. The autofocus is very efficient along with an excellent optical zoom and an oustanding digital zoom (although quality does decrease with digital zoom). The camera acts extremely well in brighter conditions and clearly out performs many other cameras, it's the indoor low light coniditions that still need plenty of work.

I bought this camcorder 10 days before.

Earlier I had Panasonic PV DV800. I returned that one because I wasn't happy about video quality.

I liked TRV 730.

Pros :

Day light video quality is superb. Except night time it is not quite good. Mega Pixel digital photo is quite satisfactory.

USB support is very useful. You can just connect to computer and your camcorder will become virtual disk. It is pretty sleek and data transfer is fast.

Cons.

Memory is just 4 MB. I could hardly take 5 photos with high resolution. Separate Battery charger could be better. At night time even there is plenty of light, picture seems little dark.

Final Word:

There are many DV camcorder cheaper than this one. I will still recommend this based on quality. I found this digital 8 better than other DV's. Overall this is best bet.

Want Sony DCR-TRV730 Digital8 Handycam Camcorder with Built-in Digital Still Mode Discount?

My comments on this camcorder are to help those who are not into specs but just plain English about this product.

First, my dislikes about this camera is

1. Black/White electric viewfinder but the view is bright and clear

2. Don't expect to take great clear 35mm quality still pictures. The print quality is a bit grainy. You are better off buying a separate camera for still pictures; but at times, it adds excitement having a still shot here and there on your video recordings.

*Now, the good stuff* this is why this camcorder is rated a 5 (Best) *PICTURE QUALITY

This is the best video picture quality camcorder that I have owned. I previously owned a Canon UC20 with 410,000 pixels (great picture quality). This Sony DCR-TRV730 has at least 1,070,000 (according to the manual) pixels, which produces great color, clear and sharp video quality video recordings.

*Minimum Illumination needed is seven Lux/ zero Lux NightShot modes*

I was most impressed with the "Infra-Red NightShot" capability. Again, clear, sharp pictures. I put this camera through a test and I did not use my optional "HVL-IRH2 Video Light" by recording in a room (with people inside the room) that was very dark all lights were out and no sunlight. I was amazed with its quality and the clearness. The built-in infrared light was sufficient for a 20' X 30' size room. Note NightShot will produce monochrome color. When I turn on my optional "HVL-IRH2 Video Light" (which has the capability of using its infrared or halogen lighting) the distance shooting was even greater and brighter, sharper picture quality. I advise purchasing an optional video light for inside recording, so you will get brighter, truer color and clarity. Even without the video light, normal room lighting still produced nice quality, clear video pictures. With the NightShot turned off and no optional video light, you will need sufficient room lighting in order to have excellent picture quality.

*Built-in 18X Optical /500X Digital Lens*

I also purchased the optional Sony .7x 37mm Digital Camcorder High Resolution Wide-Angle Conversion Lens (VCL-HG0737X). This added additional width and depth to my recording. The built-in lens did not have sufficient "width" for my recording in small close areas inside my home.

The supplied Infolithium battery pack with the Accupower meter system is rated for approximately 2.5 hours of recording. I was only able to get approx. 1.3 hours due to the way I take pictures I work the camera focusing in and out and using the fade mode, giving my video more of a professional appeal. I also make use of the Still Picture mode and use the Memory Stick to save those still pictures. I then transfer the pictures onto my computer. This battery communicates with the camcorder. It tells you how much remaining power in the viewfinder and on the back of the LCD display. Great tool and accessory.

Super Steady Shot Picture Stabilization System allowed me to take smooth looking video even when I had the shakes. I put the camera through another test -I recorded a picture while riding in an old vehicle with poor shocks absorbers if it was the excellent sound quality, which allowed you to hear the bumps and dips while riding, but the picture was flawless.

*8 Different Picture Effects*

This camera also allow you to change the picture affects to Black and White, Sepia, Negative Art, Pastel, Solarization, Slim, Stretch and Mosaic. This just adds pure fun to the video recordings.

This camera also allows me to still view my old 8mm tapes. I now record using Hi8 mm tapes.

Overall, I would not trade in this camcorder for another brand. This camera produces crystal-clear Digital8 pictures and CD quality sound. This camera allows an amateur photographer to feel and produce professional quality pictures.

You will also need to purchase another/stronger battery packs for those extended recordings. If you plan to record your Childs school program or take a family trip to Disney World/Land, you will definitely need a stronger battery. I suggest the "NP-FM70 or the NP-FM91 InfoLithium battery pack. Depending on your purchase they are rated between 5.5 hours to 10 hours estimated recording time. You should also purchase an optional video light, such as "HVL-IRH2" (approx [amt]) and an optional wide angle high grade lens, such as the Sony VCL-HG0737X. I paid [amt] including shipping for these lens. The price I paid for this camera was [amt] (new) including shipping and 8meg memory media stick. I got a Great Deal. This camera alone estimated US selling price is [amt] without shipping and only 4meg memory media stick (standard with this model). Be prepared to pay at least [amt] + shipping charges for this model without the optional accessories.

NEC NP-V300W - DLP projector - 3D Ready - 3000 ANSI lumens - WXGA (1280 x 800) - widescreen - High

NEC NP-V300W - DLP projector - 3D Ready - 3000 ANSI lumens - WXGA - widescreen - High Definition 720pI've had this projector for more than 2months now and I absolutely enjoy every movie/tv event in HD. I project to a wall and the colors are excellent. You cannot go wrong with this if you are in the market for a projector. I have not tested the 3D function until I get the 3D glasses. It's the only projector in the market with the specs it has at a good price.

best choice 3D Projector for budget Home 3D. This projector Replaced a Viewsonic projector that failed out of warranty at just 230 hours. The Viewsonic had 3200 lumins but the NEC is brighter at 3000. Used with NVidia 3D Vision on windows 7, it creates stunning 3D effect with NVidia active glasses in my home theater. you MUST use only Power DVD 12 Full (not eval) if you want this projector to display Blue Ray DVD in 3D. You also must have fully updated NVidia drivers or this combo wont work. Get it working and you too can watch 3D DVDs on a screen thats over 9 feet wide at about a 15 FT throw.

Buy NEC NP-V300W - DLP projector - 3D Ready - 3000 ANSI lumens - WXGA (1280 x 800) - widescreen - High Now

PROS

I tried an Acer 5360 before this projector and this projector blows the Acer's 3D & 120hz 2D away. Colors are excellent in 3D, motion is super smooth and there is ZERO crosstalk. Plus, this projectors extra 80 vertical pixels over 720p makes a noticeable positive impact on image quality as well.

CONS

-There is some minor rainbow effect when you shift your eyes really fast but its not a deal breaker and nowhere near as bad as the Acer 5360s rainbowing.

-This projector's zoom ratio is a joke and like most DLPs there is no lens shift so you are very limited if you plan on mounting it.

-This projector is about twice the size of the Acer 5360, but thats not a bad thing as this monitor feels like quality while the Acer was a total toy.

CONCLUSION

If you like 3D gaming and have a 3Dvision capable gaming rig, then this projector is a keeper!

SecurityMan D.I.Y Mini 2.4GHz Wireless Color Camera Kit with Audio (MINIAIRWATCH)

SecurityMan D.I.Y Mini 2.4GHz Wireless Color Camera Kit with AudioI bought two of these units based on the first comment.

They are easy to install and are easily hidden. But I ended up

having to return both units, because the video on both cameras

kept getting a lot of video noise after they were in use for a while.

I could not set the sensitivity on my DVR low enough to counter act

the noise to prevent false triggering, which would result in continuous recording. I just couldn't use these cameras. It's too bad, because

they look like nicely built units, and would be ideal for hidden

security purposes.

Doesn't work as described, every channel has interference. Its going in the garbage. Don,t waste you time and money.
