My brother has the Go Pro Hero2 camera and I just bought this one so here's the differences:

PROS:

this camera is almost as small as the Hero2 but it has a built in screen which the Hero2 does not. So if you added the screen accessory to the Hero2, then this camera would be smaller.

the picture quality is great with less fisheye distortion than the Hero2 camera

this camera floats, unlike the Hero2, which is good if it falls off somehow

the headmount does have a quick release and the Hero2 does not

this camera costs hundreds less the the Hero2!

this camera has more buttons and is easier to navigate the menus than the Hero2

the owner's manual is on a mini CD and has about 15 pages and is easy to udnerstand

the case is made of high quality material which resists scratches (I know because I bumped it twice against rocks)

the lens does not fog up in cold spring water (72 degrees)

NEUTRAL:

this takes a micro SD card unlike the Hero2 which takes a regular SD card

CONS:

the back opens up to access the mini USB port and SD card, but you will need a butter knife to gently pry it open because a vacuum seal forms when closed

this camera does not have an audible beep when it starts or stops recording, unlike the Hero2

the head mount sticks out far from your head, which makes it easy to wobble; the Hero2 headmount is very compact and doesn't have this problem

the buttons are stiff and hard to press, after some time the buttons might even stick down

the audio has a high pitch tone or ringing sound in the background; it also doesn't pick up sound very good above water

I frequently had memory card errors when recording 1080p video; I bought a new memory card and still had the same problems. Basically, I had to erase all data on the card and record 1 long video, because I would get an error trying to record any more videos.

this camera slowly leaks water! I greased the O-ring but it still happened.

I am a technology geek. An early adopter. I also work in the outdoors, shooting wildlife photographs. I used to use film cameras, and unfortunately was spending far more money in developing costs than groceries! So I made the early move to digital with a little point n' shoot Olympus. Many times I was so frustrated that the camera was almost thrown overboard. Then came the Nikon D70, a digital SLR. I was hooked. I loved being able to shoot 6 MP shots, 3 frames a second. Being able to preview pics and throw away what I didn't want. But soon my D70 was looking long in the tooth so to speak, so I began researching and prowling around for a new camera. My boss also used to shoot a D70, and had just made the jump over to a Canon D40 as the lenses were cheaper. Me, I'm a pretty loyal guy, so I gave the D300 a hard look.

I looked at many websites and forums that compared the top DSLRs. And I kept coming back to the D300. Even Macworld gave it their recommendation, so I went online and bought a package that included a D300, a 70-300 VR lens, a 2GB card and shipping for 1999.99. The camera arrived, and here are a few observations after only a few days use:

1. This is a heavy camera. Very solid. Heavier than my D70, but the weight is balanced feeling.

2. SPEED!!! Wow! I am using a Lexar 2GB 300x card, and when I hit burst rate the other day, I shot nearly 13 frames in about 2-3 seconds.

3. LCD display is incredible! At 3" in size, it really enables you to get a good feel for how the camera is operating. Live View is a new feature for when you are using a tripod or having to hold the camera at strange angles---it seems to really work well.

4. In camera processing---some features that I used to wait to process in Photoshop I can do in the camera now (red-eye reduction, etc.) Very helpful.

Now for the things I don't like (which is a very short list at this point):

1. Getting CF cards that really take advantage of the camera's lightning speed are expensive!

2. Lenses for this camera are expensive!

3. Owner's manual leaves something to be desired in explaining how to use the camera.

I am an intermediate user, and so I feel a bit lost trying to figure out all the options of this camera and how to best utilize them. But fortunately for you and me, there are lots of books, websites, etc, to help you take this Ferrari and use it to its' fullest extent! If I had to choose a camera again, I would DEFINITELY buy the Nikon D300 again.

OK, after reading all the online reviews and professional reviews and stewing over it for a few weeks I jumped on this one with the "kit" 18-200 VR lens. I am not a pro, although I have considered doing some pro work, but I take my photography seriously. My subject is mostly family/grandkids and local scenery. I am constantly experimenting with settings and never used the standard icon selections on the mode dial on my D50, so this camera seemed a natural upgrade to me.

First, I am absolutely enthralled. This is an absolutely fabulous equipment combination. There seem to be few settings, options, or configurations that I could have dreamed of that would have made me happier. Things I love:

The 18-200 VR lens; I have taken pics at 1/30 of a second at full 200mm zoom that I wouldn't have thought possible. It really does prevent most motion blur. Besides the actual camera this was the best part of my purchase. I rarely miss a shot for need of changing lenses, my former lenses being an 18-55 and a 55-200. With the flexibility of the camera itself and my second lens being a faster 30mm f1.4 this is pure photography fun for me. I know that some pros have dissed this lens as being less than pro, with distortion at certain extremes and some blur in the midrange 135mm. For the photography I do this is not important. When I do notice some distortion it's not important and I have not seen any blur, though I may not be looking close enough.

Auto-ISO: Still playing with this feature but the cool thing is that you can set it the minimum shutter speed you want and it will step up the ISO to keep that speed when needed. 1/30 seems a good speed with the VR lens, though there is sometimes subject motion blur (not camera motion blur), but this is also fun to play with. It can always be bumped up to 1/60 or more.

External controls: Most of the commonly-changed options are at your fingertips which means you don't need to visit the menus as often. I have a friend with a D40x and most of the options are in menus and my D50 has some on external buttons. The D300 seems to have a good balance. You very clearly could not have put all the menu items on external buttons on this camera!

Speaking of menus; I have a great fondness for the help feature available on this and on my D50. Not sure of other maker's cameras but if you don't know or don't remember a feature the help button will nudge you.

The customizable individual lens focus adjustment feature is the cat's meow. My aforementioned Sigma 30mm lens has never focused properly and I was able to quickly adjust this in-camera. Henceforth, all my pictures taken with the Sigma lens will at least be properly focused!

OK, one of my favorite features; the intervalometer. Ooooo, Ahhhh. It can be used by itself or with multi-exposure. By itself you can set it up to take pictures at whatever interval you like. This can be great fun. I set it up on a tripod at our reunion to take a picture every minute while we were playing cards, even catching my brother with Easter eggs over his eyes. This almost makes up for the lack of an infrared remote capability, though I guess they could not have included everything and to be fair, it is available with external added equipment. Multi-exposure is also pretty cool. More stuff to play with.

Some observations; if you have an event coming up get the camera early and play with it. I was still figuring out the settings when I went to a family reunion and took 1500 pictures. Many of those were multi-shots of the same subject so I dumped the extras and ended up with around 500 good pictures. I took some group pictures and some were blurry because I misunderstood a feature or two.

I take a lot of profile pictures and the only way to properly focus on these is to spot focus on the nose or eye. I would have liked a feature that recognizes a profile and focuses properly without changing settings. I guess that is asking a lot! Maybe in the next generation.

The weight of the device is off-putting for some, though not for me. I have big hands and the camera fills them nicely and the "balance," the way it feels in one's hands when it is turned different directions, feels just right to me, similar to the way a well-balanced 18v cordless drill feels. Though heavy, the weight is evenly distributed and it can be turned and manipulated without strain, at least not for me.

The battery life for me has been less than the 1000 pictures others have been getting. More like 500 or a little more. I'm not sure if this is because of the VR lens because I have not used my Sigma much yet. 500 is still a lot and I am not unhappy with this.

The only other "issue" if you can call it that is the front aperture dial; My finger sticks to the rubber around it which makes it more difficult to turn it. Just a nit-pic (pun intended) and something I will get used to.

Overall, I can truthfully say I love it. It doesn't get much better than this!

This is one heck of a camera. I have had Nikons (F5, F, 8008, F4), Canons (Rebel), Leica (M3, IIIc), and Hasselblad (500 CM) and I think this is the best I've had in terms of feel, features, and picture quality. I'm slowly putting it through its paces and find the camera to be responsive and easy to use. I thought that I would be intimidated by the controls, but am picking things up pretty quickly. It's getting me back into photography and makes it all fun again!

Hi all... I'm an enthusiast photographer from Sri Lanka. I got my D300 about a month back from amazon through a friend in USA. It's my 1st DSLR and I'm completely blown away by it and the photos it takes. Almost everything about this camera is nothing short of amazing.

There's only one downside worth mentioning and it's the Live View. Once you turn the shooting mode dial to LV, nothing appears on the screen. You have to press the shutter release once to lift the mirror and have the view on the LCD. But after taking the picture it goes blank again and you have to press shutter release to get the view back. This is an inconvenient and time consuming process. And I think Nikon have been a bit ignorant in this aspect. But this doesn't put me off at all because live view is something that I use very rarely.

I won't talk about any of the plus points of this cam because I want to keep this review short. Let me just say that everything other than live view is nothing short of brilliant.

About the 18-200 mm VR lens: In my opinion, this is the best kit lens out there. The quality it delivers is exceptional for a super-zoom and also for a kit lens. Unless you do macro or extreme telephoto work this is just about the only lens you need.

GoPro Tripod Mount for HERO Cameras

An essential piece to my camera bag, since I plan to do as much video production with my GoPro as possible.

However...

I've heard people complain about having to pay for this tripod mount. Since GoPro is mainly used for action sport/activities where the camera is attached to the person or vehicle, it wouldn't really make sense to add this piece to the already generous slew of mounts that come with the camera. If you're planning on doing videography where the tripod is the camera's main resting place, then the GoPro camera isn't really for you in the first place. This is just something handy to have if the need arises. Not all will use it.

The tripod mount is made of the same high quality plastic as the rest of the mounts -not much to tell. It does what it does.

However, I have reduced the review from 5 stars to 4 stars because it does not come with the nut you screw into. All the other mounts have their own nut, so I'm not sure why the tripod mount does not come with one.

Do yourself a favor, and buy a couple of 5mm Hex Nut caps from your local hardware store (my Home Depot had them in packs of 2 for ~ 50 cents, you'll find them in some drawers in the hardware section). The mount doesn't come with the bolt (but you can use the one you already have), but real issue is that it doesn't come with the nut, which all the other mounts have (hence the previous recommendation). Including this nut would have saved me the trouble of going to a hardware store, and getting it on my own. Although, you could probably pull it off one of your other mounts, but that is more of a hassle to pull that tiny thing off, and risk dropping it and losing it.

Anyway, it seems like it will be pretty decent. Pretty overpriced for a plastic adapter to convert it to a tripod mount. It'll definitely do the job, but could have been more handy with the nut, and cheaper would have been better too.

First, this cost me $7.99 at Best Buy and it just made too much sense to not buy it from there. The mount came with the nut some people are complaining about not getting but perhaps its because GoPro listened to their customers and began including it or fixed whatever manufactoring issue was occurring. Don't know.

As far using this, I did not use it to attach my GoPro to a tripod. Instead I screwed a Ram mount with a treaded stud onto the other side of this adapter piece and now I am able to use any Ram Mount with my GoPro. I sometimes ride my motorcycle with a GPS mounted to my triple tree with a Ram Mount. Now I can utilize the GoPro in that location which is good because theres really no good place to mount the camera anywhere else on my triple. This little guy is worth it's weight in gold because the Ram Mounts do not allow for any movement when you have the pieces tightened down well and you can angle it quite well.

For some reason GoPro believes this little jewel is worth it's weight in gold because that's about what they charge for it. And I wouldn't object so much but it even doesn't come with a nut. Adding a nut might raise their total production costs all the way up to what, 15 cents maybe. So at nearly eight bucks, the price is totally absurd. But then again, it's the same will all their accessories. They sell the camera cheap and then stick you for the accessories you need to get the most out of it.

Edit: Since the original review, GoPro has seen the error in their ways and is now including a nut. In response, upped rating to 4 stars. Still shouldn't be more than five bucks though.

With many HDMI cables costing well over $50, I was very happy to see this one reasonably priced. The cable came promptly in the mail and does just what it is supposed to do. I am enjoying my 15.1 megapixel pictures from my Canon EOS in full HD 1080p on my 40" LCD flat screen.

Works perfectly at 1080p HD and in all other Canon EOS 7d modes. Costs less than 1/4 the price of the Canon equivalent. Expensive "high end" cables are a scam. It would be crazy to pay more. Tip: If you have never tried displaying your HD video or stills on an HD TV through an HDMI input, you will be shocked by the magnificent quality. Absolutely no comparison to the lousy pictures you got with the old analog inputs.

Looks like this cable will do the job I need, but be aware:

The cable I received is 6' 7" long (2 meters), not 10' (3 meters) as described. The label on the bag it came in also says (incorrectly) 10'. I have no problem with that, but someone needing that extra 1 meter will be disgruntled.

The description implies it's a Canon-branded cable. It's not, but construction seems good-quality and it works fine. The description also does not make clear the cable has one mini-HDMI plug and one standard-HDMI, though the photo is accurate and a sharp eye can spot the ends.

Sony DSCP8 Cyber-shot 3.2MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom

Sony really got everything right on this little camera. My wife and I already own the higher end DSC-717 5 megapixel Sony. That camera is unbelievable in its own right, but I do home inspections and wanted something I could slip into a shirt pocket. This little Sony does that well, but it does so much more. I still can't believe all of the features they packed into something this small. It's 3.2 megapixels which is more than fine for 95% of the shots you'll take; that will print up to almost 8x10 with no noticeable loss of detail. Flash works very well, offering red-eye reduction if you want to use it. Zoom is very good, offering both digital and optical zoom modes. I personally don't mind the digital zoom, although some people prefer the optical only. In the >3x zoom mode, the digital only kicks in for the last tiny bit of the zoom, so I don't see it as a pro nor con. Battery life is amazing, as it has been for the past two years with all Sony digital cameras. The new Lithium batteries just last forever; well over 100 shots, easily. As we already have one Sony digital camera, I didn't have to install a thing; everything from the software to the transfer cable to the PC worked from the older Sony. Thankfully, Memory Stick prices are coming down; a good 128mb stick will likely be all you'll need. I'm using 64mb sticks and with the resolution set at 2mb, that's over 30 pictures per stick. And since it's digital, you can instantly delete what you don't like, so, literally, all of your shots, in the end, are keepers. Has an incredible movie mode; even better than the over $1,000 DSC-717; it eats up a ton of memory sticks to do it, but I'm thinking about tossing the videocam; it's really that good. Menu options allow filters for sepia (so nice to see interiors in sepia; makes them look turn-of-the-century), solarize, black and white, negative, etc. Plus it offers seven 'scene' modes, such as the beach (which corrects the balance to show the ocean in its correct shade of blue), fireworks, distance shots, etc. Also has a very good macro capability if you like shooting flowers in close detail. All in all, I spent some two hours with the camera when I first got it homeand was truly taken back by how many features it offers. And don't forget the biggest feature: IT IS SO SMALL!!!! Not so small like the new cell phones that are TOO tiny; just the right small so that you can put it in your shirt pocket. It doesn't weigh a thing either (it's in the ounces category). Just a real tour-de-force of what can be packed into a small package, still remain user-friendly, and put a true grin on your face when you use it. There are a ton of under 5 megapixel cameras out today; Sony, Canon, Olympia, Kodak, HP, Panasonic, Leica, Epson, etc. all make cameras that compete with this Sony. Yet I don't see any of them offering all of the features this camera has. I don't give out many 5 stars on products, but this one earns it in every way. If you're just starting out in digital photography, you'll appreciate getting this many features in such a small package and one that doesn't need a PhD in Engineering to operate. If you're a seasoned pro in the digital world, you'll love having this little guy in your pocket, just so you don't have to lug around the bigger equipment. Highly recommended in every way.

Hits:

This camera has the perfect balance of features for those who are "on the go." The durable all-metal body is sleek and small, fitting into most pockets easily. The battery life is excellent (second only to the DSC-P72/92). The 3x zoom is suitable for 95% of travel shooting situations. With the addition of a 128mb Memory Stick (which are very cheap after rebates, see Lexar/Sandisk), this camera at full 3.2 megapixel resolution can fit tons of shots.

The video mode is what sold me! Imagine taking 640x480 resolution video, with sound, for as long as the Memory Stick can hold... (Heck, I returned the DV camcorder I just bought, and waited for a month for this camera to be released.)

Good selection of accessories (although pricey). Best accessory? Two words: Underwater Housing.

The controls are VERY easy to use! I haven't look at the manual yet... but I will soon... there are probably many new tips/tricks to learn.

Quality of photos:

The wonderful thing about this camera is that on full-auto mode, the shots are outstanding. Are you in a tricky shooting situation? Take control with "Scene Modes," making those snowboarding pictures come out awesome!

The camera does lack fully-manual control over exposure, whitebalance, and f-stop, but my wife does not have the patience to learn photographic theory, nor does she have the patience to wait for me to tinker with the shot. Most of the photos I've taken have been in full-auto mode, and I'm very pleased at the results.

Misses:

No remote control... I love this about my Canon film camera. You don't realize how handy this is until you don't have it. Also, the add-on lenses require a plastic snap-on adapter. But that's the price you pay for unbelievable portability.

Slow focusing in low light (especially outdoors). Sometime you have to hold the shutter release button down for five seconds before it will fire. Set to (P) program mode and manually set the focus distance to speed up the process.

Conclusion:

Excellent camera for the price. Resolution is more than adequate for my shooting situations, and it fills up the Memory Sticks slower. Video mode is the best out there. Portability, durability, reliability.

This is my first digital camera, however before I purchased it, I did a lot of research and tried the various ones available in the market. Ok first off, if you are not planning to enlarge the picture greater than 8" by 10" [inches], then you dont need a camera with more than 3 MP[mega-pixel] resolution. The greater the MP, the more you can enlarge a digital picture without causing to blur. Just for comparison, the 'old' film [35 mm] camera took a 1 MP picture, so practically with a 3 MP camera, you can enlarge it about 2-3 times without causing it to blur, so make sure you keep that in mind before going for the 8 MP camera. Next, the zoom....consider only the optical zoom of a camera to get a great picture. The digital zoom, is a computer enhanced image, which is not so great.

Having said all this, this camera is unbelievable! The results are incredible. It allows you to take pictures in an email mode, which stores two copies of the same picture, one for emailing and one for printing[full size]. Also the flash is quite extraordinary. The best is the result with movie mode. The movie is with sound which is also incredible. However you would need at least 128 MB memory stick to get a 4 and a half minute video. Dont get fooled by the 90 min video advertisement, that is only in VGA mode, and quite unacceptable for viewing or showing it to friends. Other than that, the camera works great, results everyone will enjoy and you will cherish. Sony ROCKS!!

The camera has superb picture quality. It has SCN modes, that takes amazing pictures at night, snow, beaches, and in very bright condition. Live Histograms helps in taking good pictures and setting light focus. The camera also shows shutter time for its current setting. Its a good feature for doing good photography.

P8 has MACRO mode that takes superb closeups. For the naive photographers, it has auto option. You can take movie of 640x480 with sound till you fill up your memory. It is a superb option. The movie is very clear in daylight.

No other camera with this specification, in market can take better quality of indoor pictures as Sony Cybershots.

The camera is small and light in wieght. Sony has once again come up with the product that rocks in the market. I think its worth paying for this camera.

Camera comes with lots of options that helps in taking good pictures at different times. I recommend you to take tripod and extra memory stick.

I looked for months every website out there that compares cameras, has user reviews and etc... Finally decided on the DSCP8 and am SOOOOO happy I did. I've had the camera for six months and didn't want to write a review till I took it on a trip. I'm now back and must tell you the only problem I had with this camera was trying to get night shots really need to have the tripod for a serious shot. Everything else about this camera is amazing! I have the 128mb stick and can hold over 100 photos at the 2m setting.

Canon NB-4L Li-Ion Battery for Canon SD1400IS, SD940IS, SD960IS and Other Select Canon Digital Came

I use three batteries in rotation, as I am frequently travelling in places where there is no electricity. When I traded in my old PowerShot S410 for a new PowerShot SD750 I took a chance on buying two generic batteries ($12 instead of $42).

Both generics were slightly less than perfect, in that they would regularly activate the 'low battery' icon/light even when they were fully charged. Occasionally, they would even evoke the 'change battery' message. On these occasions I had to open the battery compartment, partially remove the battery, then re-install it, in which case I could now proceed to take pictures with the same battery.

My sense was that the total battery life of the generics was not dramatically shorter than the Canon original, although I did not attempt to measure this precisely.

As soon as I was able (about a month after I bought them, as I was travelling at the time) I returned the generics to Amazon and paid full price for the Canon original. Although the generics could be 'worked around' it wasn't worth it to me, as I discovered I was more interested in taking photos than in saving $30 (times 2).

The value of having a second camera battery cannot be overestimated because the battery cannot be charged on the camera on most models. Swapping out batteries gives you continuous coverage and if you have a 2 Gig memory you can take a thousand pictures should you choose to do so. Moreover,the battery has a neat little cap with a built-in indicator which allows you to easily tell a depleted battery from a fully-charged one and eliminates the chance of spare change in your pocket or purse from shorting out the terminals. Strongly suggest you have one of these.

This is not an actual review of the NB-4L battery, more of a warning for potential buyers. The genuine Canon NB-4L, as many should know, performs very well and doesn't necessarily warrant a review. But like many buyers here, I too received a counterfeit Canon battery. I received mine in the white/red Canon package, looks very genuine. But once opened, I could see that the battery itself was scratched and looks used. Compared it to my other original NB-4L batteries and it completely looks different. I can clearly see that the plastic housing was made of some cheap plastic unlike the original Canon ones. The connector pins were not in the same spot and were bigger to accommodate that fact. And the printing on it was a bit blurry and faded. I took it to my local BatteriesPlus store to get a second opinion, one look and the guy was convinced it wasn't a genuine Canon battery. So please be aware that these fake batteries are floating around here in the Amazon Marketplace!

This is the exact same battery that came with my Canon SD200 camera (digital elph). I wanted to have a spare, and while you can find the replacement batteries (generics) for about 1/2 the price I really didn't want to risk anything going wrong by using any other type of battery. It takes a charge well and has a nice life to it, I am satisfied.

It's hard to beat an OEM battery at about half the price you would have to pay at a local big box store. I have experienced satisfactory charge and run time for this battery in my Canon SD600.

One thing to note: This was ordered with the "Super Saver Shipping". No problem, but I did notice like many other Amazon reviewers, that the order was listed as "shipped" almost a week before it actually entered the mail system. Amazon tracking said "shipped" but USPS tracking said they had been notified of a pickup request but that the item was not yet in their posession. And, as it turns out, wouldn't be for another 5 days. Anyway, the point is that there is a slightly misleading perception being generated by Amazon that your order is on it's way when in fact it is really sitting on their loading dock (or elsewhere) waiting for a weekly bulk pickup. And once it is "shipped", according to them, you can't cancel it, no matter how long it takes for a courier to actually pick it up off the dock.

I have these same cameras but rated at 60' of night vision. This camera cost a lot more but I don't see much difference between them

I bought this camera to replace another Q-see camera that had failed, amazingly after the warranty expired it expired. Now this one has done the same thing, but it at least did it before the warranty was up. The housing seems very solid, but the electronics in it apparently are not. The image was blurry on the edges and the night vision is barely 30 meters. The camera started to intermittently quit with out warning.

The only good thing I can say about it, the company normal replaces them with little issue when they are under warranty. Other than that, I would not purchase this item again. Definitely not worth the cost. Next time I will look to buy from a different maker.

Just got it for 1 week and not really satisfied with the built quality, the colors are not accurate, the hdmi out on the bad side of the screen,

My advice... This is the best bang for your buck when it comes to these smaller mountable monitors. And it runs off the same batteries my canon 5d mkiii uses, so it's very convenient and i only need to carry around one carger. great product.
