This reviewer is new to DSLR camera technology. This camera came highly recommended by several hobbyists and professionals to whom I spoke and this is a great price for everything that is included in this kit. The product arrived on time in suitable shipment packaging. All components in the kit were as stated in the product description. The Canon products: the Rebel T3i body, 18-55 IS II lens, and 55-250mm IS lens, are the highest quality components in the kit. The shutter remote, lens cleaning kit, 16GB class10 mem card, card reader, mem card storage wallet, spare battery, and LCD screen protectors came in handy for someone who is new to the field. I have not tried the external flash yet but the head can be articulated for bounce flashing to offer the user more overall versatility than the built-in flash on the T3i (a diffuser is not included however). It's a nice accessory to be included in the bundle. Similar Canon Speedlite flashes, albeit with more bells and whistles, are priced in the $450-$500 range. I got additional reflections from the sunlight when using the Vivitar UV filter and didn't see much improvement in color saturation so I haven't made much use of these. A camera lens hood, unfortunately not included, may have helped to reduce the reflections off the additional surfaces from the filter. I didn't have much luck with the 0.45 wide angle macro nor the 2x telephoto Zeikos lenses and found my photos came out better with just the Canon lenses included in this kit. Also, if you are new to the field then I highly recommend purchasing "Canon EOS Rebel T3i/600D For Dummies" by Julie Adair King along with this camera. You will get much more out of your camera in a shorter amount of time than by simply reading the manual and learning from trial and error.

After looking at this model camera for months, I finally found this great bundle for a really good price. Camera and accessories all arrived really fast and I was able to take amazing pictures at a cookout during Memorial Day weekend. The box was a little beat up when it arrived, but the items were packaged pretty good, so everything inside was protected. Haven't used all of the accessories yet, but so far so good. I'm very happy with this camera, for a beginner I would not expect more. The kit lens is very versatile, and the total amount believe that the kit had already been paid. Accessories resolve well and you could not demand more, the package tends to be self explanatory and puts photography lovers, but still in beginner status with various tools to grow!

Fujifilm FinePix A600 6.3 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

I have many cameras, including a Nikon D50, an Olympus SP-500UZ, a Canon Powershot A540, a Fuji Finepix A360, a Nikon Coolpix 5700, and of course this one, the Fuji Finepix A600. My favorite compact is the Canon A540, BUT its just a bit too big to carry on your belt 24/7, which is what I do with this Fuji. What I like about the Fuji cameras is the color. Fuji colors just seem to pop off the screen to me. I can usually tell when browsing Flickr, or other photo sites, which pictures were taken with a Fuji before I look at the specs.

I would give this Fuji 5 stars if they increased battery life a bit, improved the rather crappy preview screen, and added a few more manual controls. But the pictures I've taken with it I love and I love its portability, and the fact that it uses AA batteries. (I hate proprietary batteries...) I'd recommend it, particularly for a carry everywhere camera.

I bought this camera because I wanted a smaller, lighter, digital camera with a larger LCD screen. I am very pleased with the quality of this camera for this price range. I find it simple to use and just right for someone who enjoys a point and shoot camera without too many confusing buttons on the outside. The movie mode is great for capturing those special moments when you do not have your cam corder handy. It takes great pictures and is easy to carry around with you.

I have a 35 mm Nikon and love the quality of the pics. So, I was skeptical to purchase a digital camera and be dissapointed by the quality of the pictures compared to the 35mm.

I was not dissappointed. This camera is easy to throw in the glove compartment/jacket pocket, etc. The quality of the pictures is great. Dowload to the software, is fast and easy (I use various softwares) and print at home.

I have enlarged pictures to a 8x10 and had no pixelated pics.

The colors are sharp and the Super ccd has a lot to do with it, the mega pixels does not determine the quality of the picture.

I use rechargeable batteries and always carry a charged spare. It does eat up the batteries quickly, but with rechargeables around, it is not a problem.

I shoot a lot of pictures and this has been extremely easy to use and download. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the battery issue, but I could give it 5 because even and 8 yr old could use it.

The learning curve is intuitive is you don't want to use the manual.

Firmware upgrade found easily on Fuji's website.

Toshiba PDR-2300 2MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optcial Zoom

I just bought this camera from Circuit City for a 150 bucks during the friday after thanksgiving sale.. It is a great value.. It has 3x optical zoom (something you will find only in expensive cameras) as well as 2x digital zoom. As far as the picture quality it is great, with crisp colour images especially in the highest resolution..

Pros:

1. Great picture quality

2. Very cheap (Relatively good brand) I tried a camera called Argus before The difference is huge!!

3. The LCD is very good.. I recommend a screen protector (you can buy one from those sold for PDAs and cut it to fit the LCD).

4. It uses SD cards (better than CF cards)

5. Nice case!

6. Super Easy installation , Windows XP detected it without even using the installation CD.

I gave it 4 stars because of the following drawbacks:

1. The lens cover is not automatic (You have to put it and take it off manually everytime you want to use the camera and it looks bad when it hangs of the camera (like the 50s style).

2. It uses non-rechargable batteries, 4 batteries are included though.

3. A little bit bulky (not like the more expensive sony and cannon).

4. 8MB is OK however 16 MB would be better.. I have a 128MB SD card so that solved my problems...

In short:

This camera is good if you care about the functionality and don't care about the appearence. (It is not worth spending a [X] to get a better looking sony or cannon). If you have rechargable batteries and an SD card, I think you won't have a problem with this cam.

I purchased this camera about 3 months ago from Circuit City on a store special for [money]. It was my first digital camera (though I have used friends digicams before and I own a camcorder) and I am very happy with it. I initially did not purchase the memory card and just shot pics with it and uploaded them to the computer before the batteries died (held about 30 800x600 high res pics) but I bought a 64MB memory stick after about a month and it was well worth the [money]. I use the 800x600 mode (high res, the camera supports both 1600x1200 and 800x600 in three resolutions; high, medium and low) and now get about 300 photos per memory card, far more than I need. The 3x optical zoom is an excellent feature as is the manual override for lighting, flash and white level. I have not used the video mode since I already own a camcorder, but for still images, this camera is great. It presents the internal photos to the computer as a removable disk drive (under Windows) which is also awesome ! I strongly recommend this camera for first timers or those who want a cheap digicam they can tote around to the beach, etc. Battery life is usually about 100 pictures (if you turn off the LCD) which is quite good. You can also view internal photos on the LCD and zoom then 2x and 4x which is quite handy. Picture quality is very good.

The picture quality is nice and this camera is really easy to use. The only withdraw is that it guzzles batteries. But you can solve this problem by buying rechargable batteries.

I got this camera for Christmas and so far I am pleased. As soon as I opened the box I began taking pictures. I found this camera very easy to use. The 1.6 in. tft lcd is great and I was surprized by the quality of the images. If you want a good 2.0 starter digital camera this one is definitely worth considering.

I bought this camera 2 years ago and have not been disappointed. I haven't had any problems and I'm very pleased with the quality of pics this camera gives. I have had no problems with grainy pics, or taking pics indoors or out. It also has a great red eye reduction feature and I never have to do touch up to get the red out of eyes.

I did purchase rechargable batteries because it does go through regular batteries quite fast. But since I've started using the rechargable batteries, I've had no complaints!

I really believe it's how you use it and what you're using it for on how you'll feel about this digital. I'm very glad I purchased it.

I bought one of these for an indie film that I am working on. I bought it one month early so that I would have enough time to learn everything about it. At the end of the month the right side of the screen started appearing a shade darker than the left side when viewing on an external monitor / TV (recorded to tape). I returned it to amazon and purchased a second camera... which also had the same defect (only this time it was much worse and visible on the LCD display). I spoke with a friend of mine who had the same camera and he had the same problem after his warranty had expired which cost him $1800 to fix. After the warranty for that work had expired it started doing the exact same thing again and now he doesn't even use that camera.

Needless to say, I did not purchase a third camera but bought a Sony HVR-Z7U instead. It's a little more expensive but well worth the money. I noticed a significant increase in picture quality right away and it has many other features that I like much more. Recording direct to compact flash cuts my editing time in half.

I really wanted this camera to work because it has some pretty great features for the price, but it wasn't worth the hassle for me.

I bought this camera (almost) when it first came out a few years ago. I paid 5 grand for it on amazon and now that it has dropped to 3500, you should definitely buy it.

Like all the other reviews state, it's an incredibly great camera. It shoots native 720p HD and in 24 fps so it's great for up and coming young filmmakers that want to produce movies that "look" like film. The lens is amazing and probably the reason why you should get this camera. The zoom ring is smooth and can zoom in and out much much quicker than most other cameras as well as focus quicker. It's really filmmaker friendly in that sense and you can detach the lens if you wanted to sub it with another. the picture quality is almost exactly that of film (depending on how you set it) as well.

The only negatives would be that I wished that the camera would also display the f-stop reading on the monitor but they seem to be different elements unlike cameras built by Canon and Panasonic. Also, it doesn't do so well in low light so make sure you are in a well lit area especially if you set the gamma settings for film-like output.

Overall, 5 stars for me. The positives totally out-weigh the negatives. Just get it now.

Panasonic VDR-D210 DVD Camcorder with 32x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom

This is a very nice 'palm'corder. I've put it through its paces the past couple of days. It does use more than just the Panasonic mini-disks . . I'm using Maxell. Their website says it will also use Sony and TDK disks. Of course, you can't play the mini-disk on an outside DVD player until you "finalize" the disk while still in the camera...just like if you were using a regular DVD Recorder. Then it played on both of my DVD players just fine. It pays to take an hour or so and read the book, which was very clear. The movies are clear and bright. I'm particularly looking forward to reducing the hand shakiness on zoom with the OIS. It did not have the capability of using a USB cable to go to a computer, or have a video light, but if I wanted those features, I would have bought the higher-end model. I'm very satisfied. Can now pass down my older 8mm camcorder to one of my children!

This is an awesome camcorder, especially for a first time user. It is very easy to use. The picture quality is awesome. I just got it so I'm still playing around with it. It also takes still pics, which is a good feature if something really cute happens and your camera is not handy, but I try not to waste my disc space on pics since I already have a digital camera. The only thing I do not like about the camcorder is you can't delete pictures or video from the disc once you taken them (like you can with a digital camera)or record over them. Once it's on the dvd it's there for good. Now if there is another dvd like a dvdrw that you can do this on, I don't know. I will look into it.

Sure this camera was good for 4 months and about 12 uses. Then when we used it the last time, the battery died. The camera shut down and we were never able to power it back up again, even plugged directly into the wall itself, bypassing the battery. I called Panasonic and they gave me some verification number and an address to get it fixed, they also said they'd send me some papers which I never recieved. I sent it to the service center and they just called me and told me that they need a flat rate of $211 before they even touch it! I only paid $198 for it. I am so mad, I cannot afford to give them $211! I am at a loss here. Why do these companies make junk! I will NEVER BUY PANASONIC AGAIN!

I own several photo equipment and nothing will suit every situation. For huge enlargements needed for professional work nothing beats medium and large format film. Which is not what these cameras are made for. In the 7MP range the V3 is the best choice. Fairly priced and very good quality picture in a reasonably compact body.

Canon G6 may have a little better quality image, but what is also important for snapshots is shutter lag time, that is the time between the moment you press the button and when the picture is taken. Here the V3 is unbeatable with less than 0.1 sec. This means that you won't loose the photo or have a blur instead of your children recorded. This is why I bought this camera, it is better to have a little less detail looking through a lupe than loosing the picture. Despite the startup time, 3 sec, which is not too long I think that this camera beats the other 7MPs because of the smaller shutter lag.

Another thing that helps is that it accepts Compactflash. the only problem is having to buy a MS pro to be able to record high quality video, but I can live with that.

When I can carry heavy stuff I bring film equipment or my Canon 10D. Otherwise the V3 is my choice, the ultra compact ones just don't have good enough picture quality for printing and the shutter lag is usually unbearable, so I think it is better to carry something a little bigger.

If you want very high quality pictures, film like quality, you have to buy bulkier equipment like the Canon 20D (US$1,500.00). And for professional work Canon 1DS Mark II or a medium format digital, but then you have to spend from US$8,000.00 to US$25,000.00.

So there is no point in people complaining about picture quality in a compact US$700,00 digital camera that delivers pictures with about the same quality as its competition. Sony makes very good digital cameras, not miracles.

I Own a Sony DSC-F828, and really wasn't looking for another camera, but the fact of the matter is that since the 828 is essentially a SLR camera, once you had the flash Etc. you got yourself one heavy piece of equipment!So seeing as we had a new baby coming along I found my self in the market for something lighter, but I was determined that it have as much of the power and capabilities as my 828.This was a tall order! The first camera wasn't a Sony at all it was the Canon G6 wich all in all was a fine camera and one I considered seriously until I saw the V3 on sony's web site. I sell camera's at BestBuy as one of my many jobs and I can tell you that that for every G6 we sell we sell 4 V3's heres why. First of all is the general design of the body, the G6 is essentially a box with a lens stuck on it! While the V3 is smaller and more contoured in shape and feel. One minus here, and I'm sure you've heard about this before... the eye piece on the V3 is poorly placed, and virtually useless, but with that big beautiful 2.5 LCD screen on the back you wont need it! As far as optics the G6 and V3 are just about dead even both having 4X optical, I give this one to Sony also because next to Canon I fell Ziess lenses are superior in optics and quality. (just an opinion) Next moving to flash ability, as far as on board flash this one goes to the Canon, the onboard with the V3 is useless for anything more than 5 or 6 feet away the Canon fared slightly better, both cameras equip with a hot shoe for an external flash, an when you slap the Sony X-32 flash on the V3 the results or nothing short of astounding again blowing the G6 out of the water! Another quick note on the V3 flash, if you plan on buying the V3's lense hood from Sony or here at Amazon include an external flash in your budjet! The hood does cause shadowing!! Word to the wise. As far as function the V3 has a extremely fast start up time, 1.1 or 1.3 seconds,The G6 was a little slower. Getting into speed hear me when I tell you this...if you want a camera faster than this you need to start looking at SLR's. This ain't no Nikon 2600 or a Canon A85, the V3 and G6 are both extremely fast cameras, again I found the V3 to be faster ( remember because of my job I get to do hands on comparisons) On virtually every other score I found the V3 to be the better of the two cameras heres a quick list of some of the biggest advantages the V3 has:

1.BIG LCD screen!! At last you can see what your shooting! Don't bother with the eye piece however, it just about useless!

2.Easy to read and navagate menus. If you want to start messing around with shutters and apatures this is your camera.The scene settings are great too, but I recomend using "P" mode for most of your picture taking! (just remember to have a tri-pod ready in low light!)

3. Video, video, video Sony is the undisputed king of on board digital camera video! Great sound, great Resolution It aint DVC, but it ain't bad either! You can get upto 44Minutes worth on a 1GB card (stick)! NO MORE CLIPS!!

4. Decent battery life. About 220 minutes per charge. Im not sure about the G6 (A friend of mine owns one, and he said he got about the same.)

5. Dual memory capability! A huge plus here! The ability to carry twice the memory ready and available right on the camera!Just flick the switch!If you are a volume picture taker this is a Gift from above for you. One minus however the V3 can't use Micro-Drives. (Maybe on next years model!?!?) The V4?

6. Picture. The V3 takes clearer shrper pictures than it's counterpart, bottom line. Not to mention the fact that you can crop your shots within the camera, and even select the resolution of the new image!! Fantastic! Beat the snot out of the G6 in ambient and low light settings. The G6 does have better ISO response, but not by enough for me to reccomend it over the V3.

7. A sane, Useful array of shutter speeds, and apature settings. I hate it when a camera adds a 40 or 60 second shutter delay, or a 1/2000 shutter speed, and then charges you 300 or 400 bucks for your trouble! Most mortal picture takers like you and me don't need these! (hell Im a professional photographer and I rarely do) the V3 shutter speeds range from 30 seconds all the way up to a scorching 1/1000, the apatures are set up likewise, It's a nice selection of speeds, allowing the use some really nice creativity options!

Sony has again set the new standard for so called point and shoot cameras, by increasing functionality and power while maintaining a compact size.Just search through Amazon here and you will be astounded at all the extra's available for this little camera! I like to call these new cameras Hybrids because they combine a little of both worlds. Sony proved they are the masters at this when they released the DSC-F828 which in my opinion is one of the most amazing digital cameras ever made! Tempramental but amazing! And that is where I can best describe the V3, It has many of the features and most of power of its predacessor (F-828) but is much more user friendly and tolerent of misgudgement on the photographers part. With the G6 like the 828 I found I have to work for great shots (not that I mind working) but with the V3 they just seemed to happen. The camera seems to act like an extension of yourself, and that is what any great camera should do. So to Sony I say Bravo again!! I bought one for my father, one for me and every damn accessory for it I can lay my hands on! If your ready this could be and will be the last digital camera you'll ever have to buy. To the Canon people out there don't get mad, the G6 is a fantastic camera in every sense of the words, but the V3 is an experience in photography not just another tool for taking snapshots!Sorry!

This is (if you'll excuse the pun) the best buy!

V3 has lot of advanced features professional photographers demand like those found in F717 while having all the auto features needed for normal family photographer.

For someone trying to move from V-1 to V-3, you will be glad about the higer capacity battery and larger LCD, while you will miss the compactness of V-1. If you prefer smaller pocketable size, this will not fit your needs. You should consider DSC-W1.

I feel V3's main strength is it's capability to take excellent indoor pictures. As a dad of two, I take most of my pictures indoors at parties and home and this camera stands up to the best digital camera I used for indoor photography namely, Sony's DSC-F717.

This camera though very similar to the Canon G6 comes out ahead in some aspects:

1) Cool Sleek Black Body with a nice feel and made out of metal and plastic;

2) Several Night shooting modes including a very nice laser hologram focus tool;

3) Dual memory slots for CF and MS;

4) This one is the killer: Full Screen VGA video (G6 does not even come close);

5) Pictures are more detailed and sharper than G6.

6) Great 2.5-inch LCD which auto-brightens in low light

7) Full on high speed USB2.0. Canon G6 has the older slower USB 1.0.

I have always found the Sonys to be more reliable than the Canons.. So as far as this one is concerened..I went for the Sony

Took about 100-150 photographs before realizing this camera needed a little help with both indoor and outdoor photographs.

Indoor: The onboard flash is just not sufficient. Large amounts of redeye, pets eyes looked like something off a horror movie and picture colors weren't the quality I was expecting. I spent 3-4 hours touching up my first set of pictures with photo software (not included). I purchased the HVL-F32X flash and the whole indoor world changed. Redeye almost totally disappeared, my pets look friendly again and colors were much richer and fuller. So add $140-150 to the price for an external flash, don't go cheap here.

Outdoor: Pictures weren't as crisp as expected. I believe it was caused by sunlight glare and the cameras aperture choice, so I added the VAD-VHA adapter and a Circular Polarizer which helped along with opening the aperture a little. Other online reviews can explain how to do this.

So my second set of photos needed almost no editing and I am very impressed by the quality. The camera is solid and time from shot to shot is amazingly fast. I am using a High-Speed MSX-512N Sony memory stick and a 256MB SanDisk Ultra II CF Card. I noticed the write speed on the memory stick are slightly faster than the CF card. But to be honest, I don't think the difference is that much to justify the extra cost of the memory stick.

This is my first projector, so I cannot really give too technical of a review. However, here are the things I've noticed in the short time I've had it so far...

Like others have said, it's bright. I can use it in the middle of the day with blinds open and see perfectly fine. From what I understand, the image will gradually get dimmer the more hours it has, but for now it's superb.

It's very easy to use. I've never operated one before and was able to use it right out of the box. Plugged it in, connected my ps3 or laptop, and turn it on. It automatically detects everything without issue.

The image can get quite large. So far I've been using it to generate an image about 8 ft wide with a good picture. The projector is 14ft away from the wall. Definitely much larger than any LCD or Plasma!

I purchased this projector for a short term relocation. I didn't want to have to ship a TV and figured if I bought a projector I could take it home with me in a few months. It's easily portable, and this one comes with a case (unlike some others. I also looked at getting the Optoma hd66 which is in the same price range, and I don't believe it came with a case and the viewsonic had a few more features).

I haven't used 3D yet since 3D glasses are still quite expensive, but one day I hope to try it.

If the lamp lasts 4000-6000 hours, I will be perfectly satisfied. That should give me several years of usage, and at that point it'll be time to upgrade anyways (technology flies these days)! Or, I could replace the lamp, although I still haven't found any bulbs online yet. I use ECO mode as well, and the difference in ECO mode and standard is hardly noticeable. ECO mode is plenty bright enough.

UPDATE: Be sure to check the contrast settings if you don't see a proper picture. The contrast setting automatically switched to 0 for HDMI input somehow and I almost returned it thinking the jack had become defective (only saw blank screen). I'm not sure why it changed, but be sure to check if the image seems off even if you didn't change anything yourself.

Let me start off by saying that when i buy something i study it hard before i buy it to make sure that i make the right descion, i settle on the viewsonic pjd6531w, and am i ever happy i did!! right out of the box the picture looked awsome!! and i received it in the morning at work so when i got home for lunch the first thing i did was set it up, even on a beige wall the picture was sharp! when i got home i put it in the spare room on a white wall , setup the surround system and popped in a bluray into the ps3, and i was blown away!!!! the colors, the sharpness, and the jaw dropping size of the screen was simply breath taking! i seriously had to do nothing , not one adjustment but to the keystone due to angle on bookshelf, if you are looking for a projector you will not be dissapointed with this one! oh and the 3d is great too!! i feel like i can jump into the screen!

3000 lumens gives amazing brightness with a projection on my wall about 8-10ft across. HDMI input so you don't have to worry about signal quality issues from analog VGA cables. Web browsing is crisp and easily readable from across the room, and movies look great also. Lots of features in the menu system including digital keystone correction, detailed color controls, captioning, customizable start-up splash-screen and more. And the default settings are good, right out of the box.

The price is very competitive, many projectors on the market are years-old models, not this one. I was shopping for a projector for months and consistently dissatisfied with the price vs features until I saw this model and immediately pre-ordered it.

The fan noise is present but very reasonable, during any movie watching one will quickly forget that it is there. Eco mode is just a small step less bright than full on, so I am using that most of the time since its plenty bright and gives a longer lamp life and slightly less noise.

It comes with a carrying case also, a nice touch.

No idea about the 3D performance yet, as I don't have anything that generates 3D content.

First thing this is an excellent 3D projector working with a "pc Nvidia 460 gtx, LG 3D internal Blu-ray player, Nvidia 3D vision kit"

Second thing after reading a lot of blogs about problems with the projector. Let this be clear "there is no problem showing 3D in 720p".

Third if you are running at least fifty (50) feet in ceiling, forget about HDMI 1.4 ,1.3 cable. It just to long. Use a DVI to vga adapter with a high end 50' vga cable because it will work in 3D at 120Hz without crackling noise or sparkles.

Fourth, go through Nvidia 3d setup with "Test stereoscopic 3D" by running setup wizard. You need set the resolution at 1280x720 @ 120Hz. Set your projector Menu,Picture,3D Sync set to DLP-Link if using with the Viewsonic PGD-150 or any DLP Link glasses.

Fifth you do not need a firmware update to make it work in 3D Blu-ray or any 3D media files. You can test from this website You just need the hardware like what is shown in the first line.

I researched projectors to death before I bought this one. I new I wanted one that was bright because I would be using it in my living room for general viewing (computer and playstation hooked up to it). I also new that I wanted one with a not so long throw, meaning that I wanted something between a theater projector and a short-throw presentation projector. This one is right in the middle (distance from projector to screen is 12 ft. and screen size is about 90-110", 16:10 ratio, which is perfect for me). It is brighter than most projectors significantly more expensive. It is widescreen, 16:10, which allows the watching of 16:9 movies with only small bars at the top and bottom. I don't know why so many projectors are 4:3, everybody wants widescreen. The pixel numbers of 1280x800 (WXGA) allow 720p resolution movies to be played at exactly 720p, and not have to be modified to fit other pixel numbers; this is assuming you will not have to 'keystone' the screen, which you probably will. The screen is watchable with lights on due to it's brightness, the only problem is that light make the black less black, and no projector can fix that.

Cons:

-The fan noise is semi-noticeable, but any decent amount of volume makes it unnoticeable.

-The project automatically points the screen up since it is more designed for presentation from desk height; this might be a good thing to you. For me, however, it is not. I mounted the projector about 9 ft high and have had to prop the back of it up about 3 inches in order to get it to display at a good level on the wall. I will soon be mounting it upside down to eliminate this.

Summary: Good price, easy to use, very clear and crisp, great colors, very bright.

The Pentax Optio H90 is my eighth digital camera. I've been shooting digital since 2003 and have owned several Fujifilm and one Samsung. I still own a Fuji 8mp and a Samsung 12mp. This background is so that you know I've purchased and learned to use a number of digicams.

The Optio H90 is a wonderful little camera. It has great product design and is easy to hold and use. It has the softest shutter of any camera I've ever owned and that is a plus. The controls are very well laid out. It's internal menus are the easiest, most logical and well thought out of any I've ever looked at or used. There is surprising depth to what this camera can do. My favorite feature is what Pentax calls "Memory." This function allows you to set and have the camera remember, each time you turn it on, an extensive list of settings. The coolest of these items is the ability to zoom the camera to any focal length and have the H90 recall it. So if between the 28 140mm (35 equivalent) focal lengths you'd like to maybe start around a 50mm lens equivalent, you can do it. There is also a "Green Button" that allows you to take your favorite variable function and bring it out of the menu and onto the green button. I use mine to bracket exposures.

The photos are of very good quality, but perhaps just a bit soft in low light. Pentax has a post shot stabilization system, Pixel Track SR, that actually works quite well. There is a slight delay when it functions, but no more so that other cameras "fix" computations. The menu and mode functions offer an enormous variety of settings. The "OK" button sets what information you can see on the LCD screen. You just push it to see more or less information. The Optio H90 comes is three color varieties, I got the silver and ceramic white job, a very clean looking product. The screen is quite good, even in bright sunlight, but you will probably want to brighten it some to shoot is direct sun. The camera doesn't have an automatic brightness mode. It's very reasonably priced, as well.

Of course, it's not perfect. I wish it had a bit more battery life, it's about average for its class I would say. In the review mode the lens does not retract. I wish it would, in order to protect against accidental touching of the lens or possible damage. The camera batteries don't charge in the camera. That would be nice, too. I bought a $6 SD/USB reader and upload photos to my Macs using it, thereby saving a bit of battery life.

My conclusion is that the Pentax Optio is a great camera for beginners through advanced amateur photographers. It is a camera you'll want to keep on your person at all times. The H90 delivers quality images in a huge varietiy of shooting situations. I've taken great macro photos as well as scenics with it. I recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced and very capable digital camera.

I'm not a professional photographer nor am I an amateur. I bought this camera knowing that it isn't the BEST point-and-shoot out there. I wanted an everyday camera that's practical, stylish, and takes decent shots. People say a camera is just as good as the person shooting it.

I love the camera. It's simple to use and is loaded with features. It's not an SLR, but it's handy and fits in my pocket. The only thing is that it would've been better if it used AA or AAA batteries. I guess I have to buy a backup battery for emergencies. I like the different shooting settings. It can even take clear pictures in low-light settings. I was able to take some nice shots of the total lunar eclipse although I just got the camera a couple of days before. You can edit pictures on the camera without the software and it creates a second copy, leaving the original intact. You can stitch 3 pictures for panoramic view, right on the camera and it's easy to do it. It basically shows you the edge for the first frame, which you can superimpose over the object and take the second frame then repeat for the third frame.

What I don't understand is why different color models have vary that much in price!!!

Olympus VR-320 14 MP Digital Camera with 12.5x Optical Zoom and 3" LCD (Silver)

I currently own an Olympus DSLR (E-410), along with a Olympus SP-550UZ super-zoom camera. I decided to buy this camera because I wanted a pocket camera with a nice zoom lens that can take decent quality photos and I received an email from Olympus saying I could get $50 off at select retailers. Disclaimer: I have only had this camera for a couple days thus this review is only based off of a small amount of time of hands on time with this camera.

First -Image quality. If I compare this to my DSLR; the DSLR will beat this camera and my SP-550UZ hands down. There really is no comparison. But if I compare the image quality to other camera within the VR-320's class my opinion would be that this camera easily succeeds the other cameras in terms of image quality. The color is outstanding; oranges are ORANGE, blacks are BLACK, blues are BLUE, reds are RED, etc... Detail in the photos is also great. I don't really know how to describe detail but I will try. Ex) Took a photo of a person holding a Cheeto. The person's face, clothes, Cheeto bag, and Cheeto were all extremely crisp and well defined. The photos I took that achieved this image quality was on a moderately cloudy day with plenty of light. ISO was set at 80 and white balance was on Auto resulting in the camera using an exposure time of 1/1600th of a second and an F-stop of f/3. Jacked the ISO up and took some pictures at ISO of 400, 800. Well, I'll just say that you should never use an ISO of 800 or more on this camera unless you have a program to remove all of the noise. Even at an ISO of 400 there will be plenty of noise to be concerned about. Also, even if you have a program to remove the noise you will lose most if not all of the sharpness/crispness of the photo. (Neat Image works pretty well to remove the noise)

Second -Ease of use. Well, this is purely opinion so I won't elaborate. Since I own two other Olympus cameras I found the menus to be well thought out and easy to navigate. Much better than my 4 year old SP-550UZ and my 4 year old E-410. I really like how when given the option to change the Exposure Compensation and the White Balance it has a real time view of the current setting along with a real time view of the other settings right next to the current setting. That's just pretty sweet! Body is very nice and small. Great pocket camera.

Third -Video quality. Wow, just wow. In a bad way. 720p HD video at 30fps. Sounds pretty cool. But no, it really isn't on this camera. As a previous reviewer mentioned; yes, the colors were there. The quality was atrocious though. I'm on a college track and field team and we videotape each other usually using my SP-550UZ. Decided to try this camera due to the 'HD'. Just downloaded the videos, so much "noise" within the video itself. Not sound noise but just artifacts within the video. My blues are blue and so on but the quality of the "video picture" makes the video basically unusable. This was on a bright sunny day. Looks like it was a lower resolution video just unconverted by the camera itself to 720p. Not good. But, I bought this camera to take pictures, not video so I will only knock a single star off for this inconvenience.

Fourth -Performance. Right around 1 second from power button to ready to take a picture. Nice. Focus was much better than I expected; thus it was very fast for a point and shoot camera. Once you start zooming in focus will start to take a little longer but this is understandable. Zooming is pretty fast. Really like how you can change the Auto Focus Mode to AF Tracking. Position it on the subject, press OK, and the camera will do it's best to continually keep the object in focus. Pretty neat. Position of the flash = horrible. That is right where your finger goes so be careful. Outside in bright sunlight the screen works remarkably well. Still pretty crisp and vibrant and not too washed out. Very easy to use outside and achieve great photos, inside will be difficult due to keeping the ISO down. This is where you would use the flash, which seems to work pretty good resulting in decent pictures. Image stabilization works, not much to elaborate on here. Works pretty good taking action shots, wouldn't buy it just to take action shots but it works.

And lastly just my 2 cents. Even knowing these faults I believe that I would buy this camera again, there would be a slight hesitation but I would buy it. I was looking forward to the HD video but all's that I wanted was a point and shoot pocket camera with a nice zoom lens. Which the VR-320 fulfills very nicely. I am a very experienced photographer and always shoot in full manual. Going from being able to adjust everything to only being able to adjust the ISO, White Balance, and Exposure is not fun but this is a point and shoot camera period. Truthfully, it's kind of fun just taking this out and taking a picture that you know will be good! Hopefully this will help you make a decision as to whether or not you will purchase this camera. We all have different needs and wants and this camera fit what I needed and mostly of what I wanted.

I currently have a 5 year old Canon Digital Elph and have been looking for a compact megazoom. My knowledge of camera features and operation is very basic. I don't know how to use manual controls and am not interested in learning. My needs are simple compact, easy to use, at least 12x optical zoom and no frills with decent picture quality that I can point and shoot. Set up was a breeze and I didn't need the manual. I've been playing around with it out in the yard and indoors. The pics look very good to my amateurish eyes. Price is also right. I wasn't able to find a comparable camera with similar features in this price range. All in all, I'm quite pleased.

I finally had a chance to use the video mode. Using 720P, the colors were very sharp and true in color. Using video is very simple. There is a red button on the back of the camera and just pressing it will activate video and pressing a second time will end the video. If you need to use zoom, it must be enabled prior to depressing the video button. Once video is activated, zoom is disabled. Although, not in stereo, sound is very good and not "tinny". It picked up the chirping birds, my footsteps in the grass, a neighbors dog barking, etc. I can't comment on action videos as I've not had a chance to use it for that purpose.

For the price, this camera is a real deal.

9 May edit/clarification: Optical zoom can be enabled during video recording without sound, i.e., microphone must be turned off.

I just bought one of the Olympus VR-320 silver cameras to try it out at my niece's Upward Football game today, and I am more than pleased with the results. It is very easy to use (which is great for a point and shoot camera I don't really want to have to take a lot of time fooling with one when I just want to take a quick shot) and the menu is laid out nicely. The time it takes to turn on and to be able to use is very fast, too, as well as when I want to take a shot of anybody in motion the camera is very responsive and takes shots quickly (another reason I wanted a camera to keep up with my niece running and moving!).

The pictures come out sharp and with great color, and the 720p video is a bonus with nice sound. I can highly recommend this camera, and I'm glad I bought it!

This camera is very basic, and does not cost a great deal. The selling point is the 24mm equivalent lens. For those of us that have been shooting pictures for 4 or 5 decades, the wide angle lens is one of the most forgotten items in new cameras, and maybe it is because, as one reviewer said, it is basic and I'm not interested in learning anything beyond that (I paraphrase). A 24mm equivalent which is about 86 degree angle of view will give the user one more option for creativity. At the price, I would buy this camera if it only had that lens and nothing else. As far as the review stating that the higher ISO rating (800, I think) is bad, it usually is for most digital cameras, and when that rating was applied to film, it didn't produce great results either. I'm rating this camera at 5 stars because I believe the rating should be tempered to the product. One cannot expect miracles at that price. When this camera is used as a camera, and used with a low ISO rating, which I do most all the time, it produces excellent results. Olympus does not put out, as one reviewer stated, pardon my language, CRAP. They also stand behind their products, and always have.

I was drawn to this Camera initially by the File Size it was capable of. Also, the extreme zoom range....WOW! I am not a fan of video. I owned a Handycam once.Yawn. Too complicated. This Bad boy has HI DEF VIDEO in the camera. Push the red button to begin filming...push it again to stop. Creates awesome/tack sharp/true color .AVIs. I'm a convert! Did I mention the zoom range. Then, reaches out to 400 35mm equivalent SHARP AS A TACK-NO BIFRINGING and this is HANDHELD-imagine if I had used a tripod. It's got whats called dual image stabilization I think . It works. The filters are pretty cool (I like the Fisheye at Car Shows) Like all Point and Shoots, there is no viewfinder so composing in bright light kinda sucks. I just might make myself a viewfinder shade for about One penny (a paper Coffee Cup with the bottom cut out) because this is one sweet/powerful/COMPACT super zoom with HD Video for basically Chump Change. Swoop on it!!!
