Lorex LW2001 Digital Wireless Portable Color LCD Surveillance System (White)

Lorex LW2001 Digital Wireless Portable Color LCD Surveillance SystemPreface: This is my first ever wireless camera, which I am using as a baby monitor, one of the uses advertised on the product packaging.

Color reproduction is extremely poor, even in a well lit room. I do not expect the video to be as vivid or natural as the photos shown on the product packaging, but the color is very washed out, noticeably worse than any webcam that I have ever seen under similar lighting conditions.

Placing the monitor unit anywhere near (i.e., within 3 feet of) my notebook computer completely disrupts the 802.11g wireless network transmission, making wireless networking impossible.

Thus, although this product works adequately as a security camera, it is totally unsuitable for use as a baby monitor.

Ignore the previous review, as its comment has no relevance for use as a baby monitor. Yes, the color quality isnt great, but you dont need to see your baby in high def vivid colors, just need to see your baby clearly, day or night, and it does that great. The range is great. The only flaw is the noise sensitivity alarm. The handheld receiver doesnt turn on from sound until your baby is virtually screaming. The sensitivity can be adjusted, but it doesnt help much. It does turn on however, so it is still usefull.

The video works well in both color and black and white, but the device emits a high-pitched whine that drives my husband and I crazy! Also, when we run the fan in the baby's room, the camera doesn't pick up the baby's noises until he's being loud enough that we could hear him without the monitor! So, overall, I would recommend a different model, like Summer Infant.

I used this monitor last night and will be returning it tomorrow. The sound quality was terrible. It cut in and out. The picture during the day was just fine but was a little fuzzy at night. I would keep looking around if your using this to monitor a baby and want to hear them.

The product is ok. Image quality and sound are good for it purpose. In my case the only cont. is that the display has turned gray in several occasion without any explication, being at the same room as the camera. I have turned off, and wait a couple of minuets an when I turned back on, then everything works fine. I have tried to find why it doing this, and I haven't found anything yet.

The rest is good.

Panasonic VDRM50 DVD Camcorder with 2.5-inch LCD w/18x Optical Zoom

Panasonic VDRM50 DVD Camcorder with 2.5-inch LCD w/18x Optical ZoomI've had this camera for a few weeks now and have filmed over 10 hours without any problem. I film a lot of kid's sports (football, sailing, etc.) and the picture quality is excellent. I went with the Panasonic over the Sony because of the 18x optical zoom and I just don't think that the Sony name is not what it used to be. The last two Sony products I've bought had problems (computer is a piece of junk and the camcorder's viewfinder stopped working after a year).

If you are going to buy a DVD camcorder, I would recommend using a DVD drive to transfer video to your computer. It's simple and fast. I bought a LG burner and it works great. Editing software programs are a different story but this is a problem with and digital camcorder you buy.

Panasonic's technical support is definately not the greatest but neither is Sony. In conclusion, I'm very happy with this camera and love the DVD concept. I gave the camera 4 stars because of the lack of support from Panasonic and the included software is useless and the instructions are unclear. The software that came with the DVD burner is better but not perfect. At least I could edit and produce a video with music.

As far as DVD players, even if you buy a Sony, not all players support DVD rw, so you have to do your homework no matter what you buy.

I bought this as a gift to my husband before he was deployed to iraq so that we could take dvd's of the children for him to watch. The manual is useless. It is very vague and difficult to follow in most areas. Using the camcorder was easy but when we went to use it with the PC we had all kinds of trouble. The usb cable is really nonfunctional. Panasonic reccomends that you back up your discs to pc...we couldnt even get the hardware to work right on our pc (the tower is brand new) and after calling tech support for help..well..he gave up too and we lost all of the video in the process. (so my husband went to Iraq with just pictures and a major let down.)Then we couldnt uninstall the hardware that was installed improperly and tech support could not help. I am so disappointed with this product that I am returning it to the store where i bought it and trying a different brand.

In short..if your not mechanically/or computer inclined this product will be difficult to use and the directions even harder to follow. And dont dvd record anything you want to keep on this product. It has a problem with erasing or locking you out so you cant get to the images and those precious moments are lost.....

The camera functioned well, but is in no way compatiable with Vista or and newer systems. Drivers are not available, so thusly this camera is an peice of junk. Would never recommend it or Panasonic to any one.

PROs: Very easy to operate, even my wife handled it well :). Using DVD-RAM disks saved my budget since I've used a single DVD-RAM disk (app 20CAD$) for the last three years. Software that came bundled ('DVD Movie Album SE' and 'My DVD') is easy to install and easy to learn. Battery life could be better, but it works fine for me (about 1-1.5 hours, screen was on all the time). All cables (TV connection, PC connection, charger) are nicely marked, no confusion here. They even included an S-video cable for TV, so you have a choice of composite or S-video connection. Neat. I like that I can put the small DVD-RAM disk in my laptop, and do all the editing, I don't need to daisy-chain the camera itself to my laptop.

CONs: As you know, DVD-Ram disks need cartridges. For many people this is a hassle, but I'm used to it. I love the additional protection that cartridge offers. Original recordings are in 'raw' DVD format: .vro and they need to be reformated to .mpg. Not a big deal with DVD Movie Album SE, BUT: the size of finished movie in MB is huge. A 2-minute movie takes well above 100MB if you keep the default settings in the software. The price of recordable DVDs keeps dropping, but anyway, the movies could be smaller in size.

Overall, this is an excellent camera if you are an average computer user and know how to get around with movie encoding/decoding.

Simple to use, great picture quality, and overall a good camcorder for amateurs! I've found the tiny dvd's that it uses to be compatible with most other systems, although not all. You can also re-film over the dvd's and use them as many times as you want before "finalizing" them. I would recommend this camcorder, even for users today. Great product, long-lasting and durable.

Shows a pretty good image on my tv from my kindle fire hd. Keep in mind, the screen of the kindle fire he is larger vertically than true 16;9, so it will be letter boxed. It looks super crisp though!

The cord itself is fine. Sturdy, well made, long enough not to be a bother, and easy to plug / unplug on both sides.

I plugged one end in my Kindle, the other end to the HDMI port on the TV, selected the corresponding HDMI port setting on the TV and got great picture and sound for movies.

I love that I can start a movie on my Kindle away from home and finish it up at home on the "big screen", and of course it works great for "Movie Night" with the family at home.

I leave the cable hooked up to the TV for quick-connect and have my movie going just a few seconds.

Sony DCR-TRV130 Digital8 Camcorder

Sony DCR-TRV130 Digital8 CamcorderI bought this cam-corder because of budget constraints. Even tough I wanted a unit with many more features I find myself very pleased. I sold camcorders and known about home versions since they first became available. And of course Sony was number one then. The 130 is my third unit I owned, the others being VHS. Having a zoom up to 560, night shot, steady shot, I-link, many fades, and filming features are a big plus. I had it for about a month and find it lite and easy to use. The built in light is also a plus (eats batteries). Lot's of accesaries are available from Sony. All it lacks is a micrphone socket, wich will help zoom in on sound while elimnating background noise. Other than the mike jack you get A LOT OF BANG FOR THE BUCK.

I'll be honest and admit that if you want to spend a thousand dollars on a camcorder than you will definitely find something better. However, if you are somebody like me who had limited funds to spend but wanted all the everyday features a ... person would want, then this is the camera to buy! All the basics are included (still photo shots, fantastic zoom abilities, picture stabilization, ability to film in complete darkness and amateur picture manipulation capabilities).

It also hooks up to a PC using a fire wire cable (IEEE1394) and a video capture board, which I recommend buying the StudioDV from Pinnacle Systems that includes both for ... then getting sucked for ... by purchasing Sony's brand. Also I found the Laser Link feature to be the best features, allowing me to play back my tapes on the TV without having to hook up the camera to it every time.

Overall, the DCR-TRV130 is a great camera for what you're going to spend on it.

The Sony DCR-TRV130 is a good cam for the money. Two things that you should consider before you buy: Your computer may need to be upgraded to allow you to download digital images... and don't expect Sony to help you out with software issues. I got the Belkin firewire card... which came with VideoWave III software and a HP CDR to store images..., I also had to upgrade to Win 98 SE. But once you are set up its a breeze. You don't have to shot any digital photos with the capture button on the camera just export individual images from the video. Also, the camera itself is simple to use, which is great for our family because my wife can use it and so can our nieces.

I've bought my camcorder about a month ago and find it to be a dream. This is an upgrade of my 5 year old Sony camcorder and it has all the useful features that you would expect. It also includes a Lithium battery, a built-in light and a night-viewing system that allows you to shoot in total darkness.

I would fully recommend this to anyone looking at camcorders.

This camera is excellent. Excellent Price, excellent features. Picture quality excellent with Stereo Sound. Digital8 holds it's own against MiniDV. And for the price I paid for this Sony CamcorderYou will not be disappointed. Believe me. Nightshot is Off the hook. Super Nightshot is unbelievable. Digital Stills on tape is good, would of perferred a memory stick but for [money], can't complain. To sum everthing up, If you want a guality digital camera for a cheap price, do not overlook this camera. You would be a fool if you did.

Swann Alpha D02C5 SWA43-D2C5 4 Channel H.264 DVR and 4 CCD Weather Resistant Cameras

Swann Alpha D02C5 SWA43-D2C5 4 Channel H.264 DVR and 4 CCD Weather Resistant CamerasMy husband and I got this security system to protect our home, workshop and barn. Packaging was good, instruction manual and quick start guide were easy to use. Everything we needed to install was in the box including mounting brackets, screws, mouse, remote control, etc.which I appreciate. We had no problem getting the cameras up and running and viewing them on my computer. Picture is really clear-color by day and black and white on the night vision mode. It works by motion detection so hard drive space lasts a long time and it automatically records over when full-30 days and counting of space so far. I had some questions about viewing it on my iPhone so I called Swann Customer service (1-800-627-2799) and I gave her permission to use logmein and take over my desktop and she set up the whole thing remotely while I sat back and watched-cool! Really nice people at Swann California office. I called once after hours to ask about viewing my security system with a Blackberry (yes you can)-and I got to speak with someone at their home office in Australia-they were very cool. Overall very good product and great customer service. I'm ordering another one to put up at my mother's house to help her feel more secure in her home. We saved more than enough installing our own system myself to pay for hers.

These have given us new piece of mind with our security at our business. It was easy to set these units up, and they were operational right out of the box. Quality construction and visibility even at night is very good. We are able to easily view over the internet, and keep recordings on the DVR.

before purchasing this product, I did a LOT of research. the resolution on these cameras is not as good as I was expecting, but then again, it was $500 (or thereabouts) and you get 4 cameras, the DVR and the cables, so it's a pretty good deal. this system is pretty easy to hook up and get running. getting the system hooked up to my home network and available to watch cameras over the network was a little more of a task. I probably couldve called tech support and got it really quick, but I like to figure it out myself, and I did.

the app. in the itunes store that they recommend did not work however, but not a big deal, I eventually found an app from another company that works great with the system. I can't watch the cameras from my phone unless i'm connected to my home network, but I think I just need to spend some more time figuring it out.

also, it's a nice feature to be able to set the motion detection so that a moving tree branch won't set off the record feature, but it's really touchy, even on the lowest setting, and the system ends up recording even the most minor of movements, but again, probably some tweaking needed on my part.

overall, pretty good system.

The purpose to having one of these is having the ability to play a recording back. Good luck with that. If that's not enough, maby all the freezups will change your mind. What a piece of crap.

GE 45231 Deluxe MicroCam Wired Color Security Video Camera with Night Vision, Black

GE 45231 Deluxe MicroCam Wired Color Security Video Camera with Night Vision, BlackI bought this at Lowes home store and I was impressed at first at the value.

Good: Clear video in well lit conditions has microphone that works pretty well comes complete with a 60ft long cable and power supply comes with two mounts

Bad: The box says it is indoor/outdoor the instructions say it should not get wet and needs to mounted in a sheltered location (semi-outdoor?) it cannot be mounted behind a window or screen for nightime use because the infared LED's will reflect back into the camera rendering it useless

This is a great camera for indoors for the money. It is not a great camera for outdoors. You'll need to spend more for that.

GE 45231 Deluxe MicroCam Wired Color Security Video Camera with Night Vision, Black

I am running several of these GE 45231 Security cameras on my Ubuntu/Zoneminder system configured 320x240, black and white. These do color reasonably well, but color is a waste of system resources. They are providing excellent results (reasonably sharp image) during daylight hours. However, "unaided" night vision is severely limited and grainy. With the "aid" of extra outside lighting, however; they are plenty adequate. Facial features are easily recognizable up to 30 feet during the day, although "license plate" recognition will not be possible with these cameras. These cameras are fairly small and are easy to install. They come with a power cube. Video and power is contained in one cable. I had to cut the cable from the camera during installations to past the cable "through-the-wall, otherwise a fairly large hole would be required to pass the video and power connectors. Cutting the cable enabled only a 3/16th hole versus a 1/2in or larger, otherwise. I use these as outside cameras and have crafted a tin shield to keep the weather off them. I have had NO issues with condensation or moisture during adverse or wet weather operations. If you need good night time illumination during operations, these are NOT your cameras. You would be better off spending a few more dollars and purchase cameras with 30 or more IR LEDS. However, if you have supplemental lighting during night operations, these cameras work well. These cameras do have a few IR LEDs, but realistically, are barely useful for anything other than catching critters flying in front of the lens, maximum of 5-10ft distance at their very best. This camera NEEDS good interior/exterior lighting to function well.

2/18/2013

After two years since my last comments on the GE 45231 video camera, I felt I should add a few more comments regarding my experiences with it. I still have the original GE45231 cameras running on my Zoneminder camera system and they are doing exceptionally well to this day. I must confirm that the camera works far better if used in conjunction with some outside lighting source such as a security light. I have purchased several "very" expensive $150+ cameras with 30 or more LEDs. The problem is that the expensive cameras are "far" more sensitive and pick up minute bugs, dust and fog causing excessive false imagery. I have found the back lighted GE 45231 to be far superior in night time operations. Daytime operation has never been an issue. Moral of the story is, if you desire minute detail, then the GE 45231 is not your camera. If, however you wish general video monitoring, the GE 45231 does an exceptionally good job. Yesterday, I purchased two more GE 45231 cameras from Amazon to replace two cameras I burned up due to experimentation.( grin ). I discovered they are "very" sensitive to voltage spikes.

Buy GE 45231 Deluxe MicroCam Wired Color Security Video Camera with Night Vision, Black Now

I used to have a security camera system that had a small 7" B/W monitor and a camera so I wasn't expecting to much from this camera at first. Well, I was very pleasently surprised. I have a front porch that has a good protected area on it and I wanted a camera that would face toward the drive and street I live on as the trailer I live at has a front door that faces away from my street. Installation wasn't to bad. I ran into one small problem as the instruction book indicated that there were a template included as to where to place the holes to mount the camera base on, but I couldn't find one included as mentioned in the instructions. This was solved by taking a piece of paper and placing the camera base on it and trancing the outline of the base on it and then lifting it up and carefully punching two holes where the screw mount holes narrowed down. After this it was a matter of drilling two small holes with my drill and driving home the screws. The camera's base allows setting the camera in any position you need even upside down if you need to. Running the cable wasn't that hard. I suggest that you don't plug in the 60 foot cable before you need to. Since the 60 foot cable contains A/V and power your not limited to where you place the power supply and it can be at the end of the cable. I ran my cable from the front porch to the Computer Room which is at the front of my trailer about 50 feet from where the camera was. I had more than enough cable for this. I plugged it into a VCR I had and when I plugged it in, the camera worked the first time withj no problems. The picture is much better than the old camera I used to have and the audio is good too. I did noticed a very small amount of hum on the audio but it wasn't all that bad. I have a small night light on my front porch and it seemed to help the picture at night. I also noted and when a car turns in to my street at night, the color comes back on for just a second when the light reaches the porch from the road so it seems to adjust well to changing light conditions. To this time, I can little to complain about and it seems to work fine and without any problems so far. I'm glad I got this.

This camera certainly transmits a high definition picture to my monitor and it has very sensitive audio . The audo is very important to me in that I do not have to be viewing the monitor constantly. When I hear a noise (vehicle, human or non-human) I am alerted to look at the monitor.

I wish it was a little smaller and lighter but this become an unimportant factor after you play with it.... Logitech Alert 700i Indoor Add-On HD-Quality Security Camera (961-000330)

Logitech Alert 700i Indoor Add-On HD-Quality Security CameraI try to keep up writing reviews for products I buy, especially the items that I myself do a lot of research on, before buying. So I'll break this down as best I can. I live in a 2-story, 2800 square foot home. And for the longest time, I've wanted a surveillance system to make me feel safe both when I am at home and away. The Logitech camera system and software does it right, with only a few minor issues, and I stress minor.

I have an Apple router but run Windows 7 on my PC; I'm also using the free application on my iPhone. I had zero problems with the software install, even when it came to Window's firewall. I'm currently running 2 indoor cameras and 1 outdoor camera...but, I actually plan on using nothing but outdoor cameras for my entire system (to include for inside surveillance). And that's about the only real issue I have with the system. The indoor camera works awesome and does what it should. It delivers good quality color video and even over the iPhone application or over the web (from Logitech's website), all of my friends all have said, "Wow, that looks awesome!" BUT, and it's a big BUT, once the sun goes down, the indoor cameras are very limited. Shy of the bad guy turning on all of the lights in my house, then committing his crime, the indoor camera is of little use during nighttime hours. And at first, I was okay with that because I'm home at night and it's actually the daytime when nobody is home. But then I bought the outdoor Logitech camera and WOW, what a difference because it holds the very same quality as the indoor camera, but also does a phenomenal job at night. So with that, I'm going to return the indoor cameras and use the outdoor cameras for outside as well as inside. But I still want to give my review on the indoor camera as I've been using it for about a month now.

Pros:

Color Quality. Again, great color quality. Even using the digital zoom, I was impressed at how good it looks. My wife being the glass half empty type of person commented that you can't see the face of the person all that well. But my reply was but you can sure as heck see his race, clothing description, weight, height, hair color and most importantly you can see if he is or isn't wearing gloves...hence, you could see clearly where he may have left evidence (fingerprints, DNA, etc).

Included 2GB media card. This is a great feature!! This means that if bad guy breaks in and thinks he's outsmarting you by stealing your computer (with the footage of him), you can still revert back to the camera itself to retrieve the footage saved to the media card. Another great thing about the camera media card is that your home computer does not need to be always on to be recording. For example, my computer goes into sleep mode after about an hour of inactivity. So if my computer is in hibernate mode for a full day, the cameras are still recording footage and will sync to my computer when it awakes. For it to work seamless, I just leave the Logitech software running in the task bar (background).

Software. Logitech did it right with the software. It was a very easy install, features are clear and I love that you can customize each camera you have on your network. For example, out of the 3 cameras I have, I only want 1 of them to send off text message alerts. Again, it's nice that the alerts are not just a system feature, but rather an individual camera setting. You can also adjust the duration of alerts to save yourself from getting thousand texts. For me, a 5 minute window is perfect, just as long as I get the initial text, I wouldn't be concerned about getting 20 more in under a 5 minute or however long of a window you choose. I also like the way the software saves all of the recorded video. With 3 cameras going, I've been getting a lot of recorded footage. The software not only allows you to use choose a given date and time to research, but if you were to search out for that file in Windows explorer, the software does a great job by saving the footage under the name of camera (for example "Living Room"), then the month (10 for October), then the day within that month. Being a police officer, I really like that if I had to turn over crucial footage (if my home was burglarized, etc), all of the footage would have clear a folder structure and time stamp that would make sense to any other investigating officer.

Alerts. This feature sealed the deal for me buying this system to begin with. You select a zone in which if motion occurs, an alert will be sent. For example, although my camera has a pretty wide shot of my living room to include front door, my only concern is if movement is picked up at the front door. Once motion is detected, a text message is sent to my phone. The alert text message is awesome; it says what camera picked up what motion and at what date and time...simple and efficient. BUT, I will mention alerts in the Cons section, so please read on.

Camera size. Again, I have both the indoor and outside camera and was very impressed by how small they were. I also lucked out that I have power sources on top of my potter shelves, so I was able to plug in the cameras without any wires being run down walls, etc. And because the cameras are small, I've actually told friends that I have the cameras and it still took them a while to actually figure out where.

The "wow" factor. I'll admit it, I'm that guy who loves his tech toys, who loves showing off new technology and how I make it work for my family's safety. The first day when I showed all of my police friends the system, everyone was amazed. I should get a kick back from Logitech on all of the potential customers I made for them. Being able to open the iPhone app and show my friends that I have 24/7 surveillance of my home, felt very cool. The iPhone app also works very well over 3g cell service (not just wi-fi).

Cons:

Price. Well I mentioned the "wow" factor when I showed off the system to my friends. Well, I got the same expression when I told them how much. For me to get 6 cameras, all of them being the outdoor cameras, is a bit pricey. But, I will say that the software being free is nice. It's also nice to know that each camera comes with that 2GB media card (another plus that make the high costs seem understandable). And although I'm not that interested in audio, again, if you're going to pay the big bucks for a camera, at least it gives you color and audio as an option.

Night time quality. Again, if all you care about is crystal clear footage in the daytime, then the indoor camera is for you. But for me, I began to get frustrated that for so much money, I was only getting daytime footage. For a bit more money per camera, I feel that it was well worth it, to be able to see what's going on in my home 24/7.

Logitech server. This is a tough one to explain, but I'll do my best. When you install the cameras and software, the alert system is dependent on Logitech's servers / service. In the month that I've been using the camera, I only had 1 time that their servers went down. In that time, the cameras in my home were recording as they should BUT the alert notification system will not work if Logitech's service is down or disrupted. Although it was only down for a few hours, I was still very unpleased given the fact that the alert system is what it's all about. I don't want to come home to find my house has been burglarized and didn't get a text because the servers were down. Instead, I want to get a text message telling me someone is there, that way I can call the police and increase my chances of getting the suspect while he is still in the residence. The alert service has only been disrupted once, but makes me nervous for what's to come down the road as these cameras begin to sell.

Alerts. Again, read my Pros section about the alert function. Where I had a problem is how long it can take to get the alert text message. I've done some very extensive testing and it ranges between 40 seconds to 4 minutes from when my phone gets the alert text message. Now 4 minutes may not seem like a long time, but a skilled criminal can do A LOT in just a few minutes. I'm not too happy about the variations on alert times, especially since there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to why sometimes I get the notification in under a minute, but other times over 3 minutes. Clearly, it has to do with Logitech servers.

Plug outlet requirements. Although I get why you have to plug in your unit to the actual wall, it doesn't mean I have to like it. It's been a little bit of a challenge with some of my cameras to find a good discreet location coupled with having an available outlet there. I'm guessing that at some point, Logitech will begin selling overpriced extension cords or power bars that allow the cameras to work even without being directly plugged into the wall. I believe a read few reviews from people that have done this though; I would live to get their reply or feedback in this review thread.

Thanks for reading!

******Updated Review****** 12/19/11

So after more than a year of owning these surveillance cameras, I wanted to update my review.

Originally I purchased the indoor cameras, however, quickly realized that the outdoor cameras are your best bet even if the cameras are all for the inside of your home. I still strongly stand behind that assertion. After a year, I've upped my system to 4 outdoor cameras that are placed in and outside of my home.

I have to say that after a full year, I'm still very happy with the system and I use it every day. One aspect of the system that did get a welcomed update is the iPhone / iPad application. The best part of the updated app is the ability to see all of your cameras' viewpoint without having to selectively choose each camera. Although I would regularly use TeamViewer to remote into my home computer in order to toggle on / off the `Alert' settings, I ended up caving and buying the 80-buck a year subscription that allows the iPhone app to quickly turn the alerts on or off. What's nice about the alert system is that you can selectively leave an alert on per camera. For example, I leave my alert on for our garage camera 24/7, versus only turning the alerts on for the other inside cameras.

Although 80 bucks a year is a lot, I find it to be money well spent if not for the convenience alone of having the ability to playback footage from either a computer with Internet connection or my iDevice.

In the last year, I've recommended this system to ALL of my law enforcement friends and they too have been pleased with the product. Although I think some of them haven't found the software setup as easy as I did. So if you're reading this Logitech, feel free to throw a brotha a free camera, haha (just kidding well maybe not all the way kidding).

I recently wrote my review for 750e camera Logitech Alert 750e Outdoor Master Security System with Night Vision, which I also have. I highly recommend checking that one out to see my useful comments. I am writing this one merely as a way to give Logitech another 5-star review, which I thoroughly believe they and this product deserves. I also wanted very much to share my high-quality video of a theft in action. Although the perp was never caught, it's no fault of the video, and I think the world outside of Facebook should see how awesome this system is. I wish I was allowed to upload TWO videos, because then you could see this man walking away with my stuff. But this video is good. It shows him spotting the items in my door, checking out his surroundings to make sure no one is coming, and then brazenly opening the door and taking my wedding presents like they were his own.

While the hardware upgrades appear to be fine, the software is a major step back. You can not schedule "on" times for the cameras like the previous version. In other words, the cameras are always on, always recording. This will generate hundreds of files in an active setting. We used the previous version for night time monitoring set to record 8pm to 6am, worked great. For whatever reason they have dropped this from the software. Product support suggested unplugging cameras during the day, seriously. I would avoid this product until that functionality is brought back.

set-up was easy for one camera, added a second camera and the system worked for about 90 days. started having problems with outdoor camera and called customer service, they had me climbing up and resetting camera's three or four time over two weeks. camera was continously failing to record. they finally agreed to send me an advanced replacement and after waiting two weeks i called back and they said they never recieved my camera and that is why i never got the advanced replacement (not sure why they called it an advanced replacement). Sent camera and waited another two weeks for repalcement. installed new camera and followed set-up installation, now none of the camera work and are not detected by their system software.

I would recommend you checking out thier web site for the logitech commander alert support forum site and you will see why this is such a poor product. pages and pages of the same problem i am encountering, customers spending hours and hours trying to get this system to work.

I would look into a more reliable product than the logitech system. They say it does not need any wires but this is not true, you have to run the wire to a power outlet, plug another box into a power outlet and then connect that box to your router, the system uses your homes power outlets to send a signal thru the electrical wiring within your home. In the forums logitech admits this is not the most reliable method to use but good enough for consumers. How stupid is that, a security camera system that does not use a reliable method to transmitt signals.

bottom line, if you want a system that uses an unrelaible method to transmit signals to your pc, takes an enormous amount of your time trying to fix and you enjoy spending time on the phone with logitech customer support reps then this is the system for you!!!!!!

INITIAL REVIEW: After doing a lot of research (so I thought), I purchased the outdoor system. Once I unpackaged it, I had it up and showing video images on my PC within 15 minutes, and had web and phone access (the free stuff) working in only 5 more minutes. Other than not being able to set time frames on the alarms, I love everything about this product! The initial system worked so well that I bought another outdoor camera and an indoor one. Adding them was another piece of cake. It may be a bit pricey, but the merchandise is high-quality. My whole experience with it has been positive.

UPDATE1: Six weeks later, the honeymoon is over. Unexpectedly, this camera and my outdoor camera started to not be available much on my Droid phone. Then they became never available. Then the Logitech Alert web viewer quit seeing my cameras. Resetting the camera gives me one more viewing, but then they are unavailable again the next time.

UPDATE2: Soon after I wrote UPDATE1, the response time and success rate of the internet and phone-viewing suddenly became dramatically improved... better than it had been when new! What explains this? Dunno -could be Logitech's server, my Verizon connection, flakey hardware? So I bumped the product rating up to 3 stars. They'll get 4 if this holds out for a few weeks. But right now, I get my live feed super quickly and consistently.

UPDATE3: The last month has been a good one: zero at-home failures (summer storm power outages and all), a near 100% success rate getting a live feed over the internet, and about 80% success with live phone-viewing. And when there is a remote-viewing connection problem, it is gone less than an hour later.

SUMMARY: Maybe Logitech wrung out some bugs or got more/better servers, or maybe Verizon, as my ISP, did something to improve things, but overall I'm happy with this system -unlike the way I was a month ago. If it didn't have that earlier weirdness, I'd give it 5 stars.
