Fuji Fujifilm Finepix S2940 14MP HD Digital Camera

This camera was a common model at Wal-Mart until recently. I picked mine up for $99 on a Valentine's special. I read the walmart.com reviews and felt I should add some points to the other points made by owners.

1. This camera is not bad like some people will say in the reviews. Some people gripe the picture quality is like a cell phone camera. I would say if this camera is taking pictures that bad, then it is a case of USER failure, not CAMERA failure. If you can't be bothered to read the instructions, you really shouldn't review it. Most of my pictures have turned out great with just a few easy adjustments that were covered in the manual.

2. Sample pictures. Walmart.com has some really crappy sample pictures that are either non-corrected night shots that a person failed to adjust in the camera settings, or shots that the person CLEARLY did not use the focus feature by pressing the shutter button halfway. If you just go click click click, this is not a camera for you.

3. Zoom complaints. The zoom on this camera is really powerful and clear. I have had no issues with it, but I will say that you do have to hold STEADY. If you cannot hold yourself still and just slam your finger down on the shutter button (jarring the camera) your pictures will turn out like crap. Use a tripod. Unless you are shaking the camera violently, normal pictures all turn out fine. Zoomed pictures take a little more practice, but I was able to take a clear shot riding as a passenger in a car of a billboard 75 feet away at least. Again, most complaints are just USER failure, not CAMERA failure.

4. Color reproduction. When properly adjusted so that the light levels are even, I would say the color reproduction is approximately as good as a similarly priced Canon and better than the entry level Nikon cameras.

5. Video leaves a bit to be desired, but is still good quality. Zoom is limited in video mode, so have it prepared beforehand. Motor noise can be heard in the videos, but it is vastly quieter than the last generation of Fuji cameras.

Overall I'd rate the camera great at moderate ISO levels, excellent at outdoors shots, above average at indoors shots, and above average at video. Battery life is quite nice, and with four rechargeable AA batteries it lasts a long time. Make sure to use a high speed memory card or HD video will be a miserable experience for you with constant buffering. All and all a good buy.

Before buying this camera I read all the reviews carefully. Overall the reviews were positive so for $129 which included an eight gigabite, high speed memory card, I thought it a good deal. I was rewarded with more than I ever expected. The camera is fantastic and performs better than some of thethe more expensive cameras I've owned in the past. You have to be a real dunce to take bad pictures with this camera, and now I know the negative reviews I read were because the users simply did not take the time to read the instructions. For the money, you will not find the features nor the quality photos this camera is capable of. And, the video is not bad, either. Buy it!

Got this a few days ago. Very easy to configure. Had mine set up on my wireless network in minutes. Much better video quality than I expected for this price.

Definitely meant to be used indoors in low light. When I point it out the window, the image just washes out and goes all white. But indoors, with normal lighting, the image is great. Night time image is very good. The built-in IR LEDs work well to about 20ft or so. Beyond that, things are pretty dark. I tried an experiment and turned on a desk lamp with a very low power fluorescent bulb and the camera had enough light to see everything in the house in full color. Really good low light performance.

The microphone is also very sensitive. Almost too sensitive. It picks up every sound in the house. I can hear the ceiling fan, air conditioner, TV in another room, people talking in other rooms etc. Has 2-way audio but haven't tried it yet. UPDATEtwo way audio works great. You need a powered, amplified speaker; I used an old computer speaker.

Super easy to operate. You don't need any special software to remotely view, just Internet Explorer. You can view with Firefox, but you lose some features. When viewing remotely over the Internet, you can click on any point in the image and the camera centers itself on that point.

Tons more options and features but, you can read about them on the manufacturers website.

If this had a true optical zoom, it would be just about perfect but, full Pan Tilt and Zoom cameras cost a lot more than this one.

I am pleasantly surprised with this camera. I've tried several 'affordable' cameras over the past few years and have been quite disappointed with them. The only really good network PTZ I've found is a nine hundred dollar Panasonic. Too expensive for me and it does not have audio.

If you need audio and full range pan ant tilt, but don't need zoom, this is probably your best choice right now for any price. Panasonic makes a nice, small, wireless camera with audio and pan and tilt but it does not have the range of motion that this camera has and this camera has much better low light image quality.

REVIEW UPDATEI've had mine now for several months and it still works great. I changed the video setting to "outdoor" and now it works perfectly in full sunlight. And it still works just as good in full dark as it did with the other video settings. I was having some problems with the camera losing it's wireless connection to my Linksys router. I would have to power cycle the camera to get it to reconnect. But then I started having other problems with the Linksys router so I replaced my old Linksys router with a newer D-Link router and the problems have gone away. The camera has not lost it's connection since I replaced the router.

Because this camera is IR sensitive and does not have a switchable mechanical IR filter, daylight images sometimes look a little fuzzy, as if the lens is dirty. This is most noticeable when viewing indoors with a lot of sunlight coming in through the windows. I have other IR sensitive cameras and they exhibit the same behavior.

Overall, I am still quite pleased with this camera and just wish Amazon would make it a Gold Box deal so I could get another one!

Amazon recently put the Panasonic BLC131A wireless network camera on sale for about 1/2 price so I got one to try. The Trendnet TV-IP422W is far superior to the Panasonic; it has much better image quality, sound quality and range of motion, and the Trendnet configuration screens seem much more intuitive to me.

If Trendnet would add a zoom lens and a mechanical IR filter, this camera would be perfect.

Hopefully you will find this review helpful for your setup. I know I rely HEAVILY on reviews and feedbacks for my purchase.

First off, don't expect much from the wireless feature. It's nice to have, for portability e.g. but not for reliability nor stability.

I bought 4 of these cameras, mounted them all wirelessly with (a) front door, (b) back door (c) kitchen and (d) foyer, to keep an eye on our dog. I figured I may be able to skip on pet hotel fees and get a big peace of mind at the same time. I setup my routers, sort out the remote web access and even got them to work via my iphone using the $5 eyecam app. The $25 IP PRO View app does not work with the IP422W's data stream.

When I was still home and before my first trip that truly tests out these cameras, one of the cameras would be missing from the network and never to be seen again even after a reset. Amazon promptly sent out a replacement but only after I discovered you really need to leave these cameras disconnected for more than a few minutes before it was really re-initialized.

Then we went on our vacation and after a few hours into it, 1 of 4 cameras were MIA. Still, it was fantastic to able to see our dog through the other working cameras. However, by day 2, we were left with only 2 cameras working and on our way home, only 1 camera was working. Of course, bear in mind, there's NOTHING you can do to fix it unless you get someone to go to your home, unplug and replug the camera's A/C adapter (a reboot).

The following week, we went On our 2nd and longer vacation and it was pretty much the same story. First, it teases you with much relief that it's working but then it never fails to disappoint with a non-functioning camera by day 2 or 3. On our way home from this 5 day trip, only 1 camera was working.

When we got home, I was bent on researching this further and opened two tickets with Trendnet, the 2nd one, they didn't even bothered replying. Now dizzy with the experience of being able to check on the house when we're away, I was prepared to send the Trendnets back to Amazon and swap them for far more costly Toshibas, Sonys or Axises.

But after much research, I quickly concluded that almost all of these IP cams just don't have very robust wi-fi components. Most reviews were plagued with widespread reports of losing connections, reboots and the like.

Still, I pushed forward, upgraded the router's firmware to DD-WRT, bumped up its transmitter range, added another router in as a repeater, relocated the routers to higher ground e.g. I even tried swapping the antennae on the furthest camera with a longer antennae that came off an older Linksys router. By now, there is probably sufficient signal strength in my house to service the neigboring five streets!!

But of course, one camera or another will still continue to drop out, never to be heard from again until they are rebooted. I supposed it would have been great if they will self re-connected again sometime later but they never did, not even once.

The geek in me then went into innovation mode, perhaps I can set up a script, reboot them every two days, use X10 power modules and restart them remotely. Then my wife gently reminds me we just spent a grand on cameras that have questionable functionality.

At this point, I bid kudos to those who have written about this same topic, about futile attempts to troubleshoot wi-fi problems, about even with the router next to the camera, it STILL loses connections. The optimist in me finally agreed, my wi-fi network is not the problem, THESE CAMERAS DON'T WORK WELL WITH WI-FI. Not that the wi-fi don't work at all, it's just that they don't work consistently.

So finally, I bit the bullet and reluctantly HARD-WIRED ethernet connections to all the cameras. I had explored using POE and possibly Homeplug to ease the installation pain but they added more point-of-failures and cost quite a bit more as well. I eventually opted to punch holes into the wall, fishing e.g. and did the hard-wired routine.

It's been a week since my wiring/stucco/drywall/painting work has just completed and the cameras have been live 24x7 without a hiccup.

All in all, the IP422W is great, has a good enough picture, decent IR, great low-light capabilities to 15 feet, unmatched panning angles and more importantly, good value for the money. Just don't expect an optical zoom or a continuously functioning wi-fi.

We bought this camera to keep track of our kids at home in their playroom, and to keep an eye on our daughter, who occasionally has seizures at night that are hard to detect just by listening. This system is a little bit of overkill for that purpose, but the following are some things that made us settle on this camera instead of a more generic baby monitoring video system:

* It's encrypted, so people can't spy on what's going on inside our house.

* It's digital, so it works with all the wifi internet connections in our neighborhood instead of interfering with and being interfered by them.

* It's online, so I can check in on the kids and feel like I'm part of the family when I'm at the office.

The camera uses a regular wifi internet connection, and you open up the camera's web page to view the video. There are controls on the side of the web page that allow you to move the camera around, turn the sound on and off, and things like that. There are 8 presets you can label that will instantly move the camera to spots you select, which is a great feature. There is a button to cycle through all 8 presets once and then return to where it was looking before. You can set up guest users who don't have access to the controls, but can just view the video stream.

Despite having quite a few options, configuration was relatively easy, with all the options available on a separate setup web page. They did a good job of laying out the menu heirarchy to make things easy to find, although there were enough configuration options that I missed some the first time through.

Some of the drawbacks are:

* Some things only work on Internet Explorer using ActiveX controls. That's not a problem for almost everyone unless you happen to use Mac or Linux, like me. The basic functionality is all there, except for sound. I was able to work around that, but it seems odd to take the effort to support other browsers and operating systems with a java applet, then stop short of full functionality.

* The full manual is only on the CD-ROM, the only printed manual is a quick installation guide.

* The camera doesn't tilt down very far, which creates annoying blind spots when you set it on a shelf or something. However, there is a mounting bracket that we used to mount it upside-down, which gave us the full range of motion we needed. There is a configuration option to flip the image back upright.

* I wish it had a zoom, but the wide angle lens is a good choice if you have to have a fixed lens.

* The camera occasionally needs to be rebooted after experiencing a heavy load.

* The infrared illuminator doesn't come on automatically when it gets too dark, which is strange because the camera adjusts pretty well for brightness otherwise. There is a night mode button on the web page.

* Some of the configuration defaults are frustrating, like a 1 degree increment for pan and tilt. That would be fine if you could just hold down the button, but the web page doesn't allow you to do that, and pops up an annoying message to "Please wait" whenever you click the buttons too fast. The increment can only be changed on the setup page, but it's not a big deal because once the presets are set up, we hardly ever use the pan and tilt buttons.

* I wish it had a feature to disable guest access during certain hours. It would be nice to give access to the kids' grandparents out of state, but it would feel icky in the evening when we are all in pajamas to have people looking at us. I think I can set up a schedule on my router firewall, though, and it does have a schedule and motion detection I could use to upload still images to the family blog.

* It would be nice if the lights on the front indicated when someone was watching the video, not just if a link is established.

However, the drawbacks are nothing that can't be worked around, and overall the camera exceeded our expectations.

Overall a decent camera at a great price point. There are some minor glitches but none of those are deal breakers for me.

Pros

Feature packed (Pan/Tilt, 2 way audio, night vision, wireless with WPA2 support, stream to IE/Firefox/3G phone, recording to NAS, just to name a few)

For $ including shipping, it's definitely the best bang for the buck at this point

Easy to install

Everything works for the most part once it's set up

Cons

Build quality: The first one I got from Amazon has very loud grinding noise when it starts up. The second one came without any problem though.

Stability: Whenever you restart or power down the camera, there is a possibility that you won't be able to connect to it after it comes back. I have seen the same problem on both cameras (with the latest firmware build 71). Usually the problem goes away after a few reboots, but it's quite annoying.

Constant background noise: This is a confirmed issue caused by an over-sensitive microphone. Apparently Trendnet is working on a fix for this.

Even though the camera has a built-in microphone, you can only capture video (not audio) when you try to schedule any recording to a network storage device.

Lousy tech support. They are not responsive, don't not know much about the product beyond the superficial stuff, and sometimes have difficulty to understand what I am trying to say (and vice versa)

Other things I wish it has:

Support https so it's more secure when streaming over the Internet

Support authentication over RTSP. At this point, anyone with a 3G phone and the right URL can view your camera if you enable RTSP (Yikes!)

A privacy button to temporally disable the camera, or some scheduling capability to turn on/off the camera

Multiple profiles for motion detect so you can monitor different parts of the room depending on the time of the day

I've spoken to customer service so many times to get this camera working that I've put them on speed dial!

The good news is that they answer quickly and have a good data base to solve problems. It would, of course, have been helpful if that info were on the web site.

I am not going to repeat much of the features discussion here but rather, deal with installation other issues that I've learned and that may be useful:

-Install both the IP Setup and the Secureview software.

-Give the camera a Static IP address even if your router has a DHCP (not fixed) address.

-Follow the installation instructions carefully, The first task is to have your router recognize the camera's fixed IP address using IP Setup.

-Make sure the camera is wired to the router; the router is hooked to your modem; everything is powered on.

-Somewhere along the way, the program will ask you to install an active x control perhaps more than once. Make sure that you click on the appropate strip on the top of the page.

-If the camera's IP address appears in the IP Setup window and you click it but can't get a picture, try Secureview. If that works, then there is a problem with IE.

-Especially if you have IE 8 or Windows 7, be prepared to download and install the newest software (you may have to connect the camera directly to your computer and follow instructions carefully). You might also try Tools Compatibility View on IE.

-Once you get a picture, note that the camera has a manual focus on the lens. Watch the picture on your computer and slowly turn the lens from the edge with one finger without blocking the picture.

If you plan to go wireless within your network:

-Make sure that you have the IP address of your router (192.168.0.1, for example look it up by brand on the web). Also, any router user name and password you set up (default is probably admin.admin). Also the encription key you put in. If you need any of this and don't have it, you may have to reset the router and run the router set up again.

-From Setup-Network-Wireless. Check Enable. Click on Site Survey, highlight your own home network, make sure the name appears in the box, set up the same encription and key that you set for other items that access your router. Click all the appropriate boxes.

-Remember to disconnect the camera from the router, power it down and then up again.

If wireless works and you want remote access, then note the following:

-It will be necessary, especially if other items (TIVO, printer) are connected to the network, to change the port (Settings Network Network). Your IP may also block port 80. I went to 8001 to avoid problems.

-You will need to go to dyndns to get a dynamic address. Access the site from the computer you are using to install the camera so that dyndns has a starting IP. You will create a user name and password and select a dyndns account name.

-Log into your router and follow the router instructions to Port Forward 8001 or whatever you selected in the camera setup. Once port forwarding is activated, you probably do not have to enter the dyndns information in your router. You may not have to put in the DDNS settings in the camera network setup page either.

-When you access your camera remotely, remember to start the address with http and end with :8001 (or your forward port). It should look like: h t t p: / / (username) . dyndns . org: 8001 (no spaces).

-There are issues setting up email and ftp forwarding. The camera will not deal with encripted email servers nor will it change the smtp port from 25. I have been unable to configure it to send email.

-If you use FTP, note that the host address should be in the form of 00.00.00.00, not (ftp or h__p).

On balance, this camera works more or less as advertised. The picture is reasonable in good light; somewhat grainy in poor light. The lens needs to be properly focused. Digital zoom does not give a sharp picture. The panning range is impressive. I wish that the software were more up to date; that it could send encripted email through a different port and that the instructions were better.

Still, this may be the best available for the price at this time.

UPDATE 9/10. FTP UPLOADS.

As noted, it is possible to use the camera's motion detect features to take photos and upload them to an FTP site than can be accessed through the internet.

Research shows that some FTP sites have a monthly maintance fee. I have been using a site called: transferum . com that provides limited but adequate FTP storage. There is a one-time $1.00 fee (paypal) to join but no continuing fee, and members set a unique username and password. The site can be accessed using an http command; specific FTP software is not required. Pictures remain on the site until deleted by the user. Note again that the when setting the camera, the FTP site must be referenced using its 00.00.00.00 address form.

When I got the 6ft HDMI Cable I was worried that it felt thin and cheap, but I have used it now for 3 weeks and I have no problem with the cable, image and sound. I am delighted with my purchase as these cables are much more expensive at the store.

Actually, no it's not even worth the $3. I used this to make my hdmi cable longer for my PS3, and when I plugged it in, the screen flashed, and there was static everywhere. It did not work at all. I thought it might not be super high quality, but it's garbage. Don't buy from this company.

I bought this so I could use it on diving trips coming up in Hawaii and Bonaire. As of yet I have not tried it underwater but I have used the inner camera for outdoor photos. So far the photos are good, the only problem I have is with the lag time between photos, but I knew that going in to this purchase. Easy to use and when the underwater case is on the buttonsa are large and easy to use. The back piano keys are very easy to use and should be great when underwater even with gloves on.

I'm writing my review because of the unfair one from the Big Man who wrote his review. Yes, this camera is made for a woman. It is very 'girlie' and I love it! It has lovely rhinestones and it is so very petite. I am not a teenager....in fact, I use this camera to take photos of my kids and grandkids. I carry it in my purse in the very cute little purse that comes with the camera. I also bought a rechargable lithium battery for a few bucks and it lasts all day. Took it to Disneyland and had a blast just reaching in my purse, pulling it out and shooting movies of the little ones all over the park. It's fabulous for the price. No, it's not a high price camcorder but that's also not what I paid . . . REALLY! Get over yourself and see that this is a great 'bang for the buck'. I LOVE IT!

Remember, it's an inexpensive camera and you won't be disappointed. So much fun!!!!!!

Recently had received a DXG 533V camera as a Xmas gift from a family member. It's a HD model sold via the Shopping Channel and pretty much the same unit as the 535 and 580 models.

First impression out of the box was cheap plasticy and gimmicky. Controls were the first source of utter frustration, just trying find out how to turn the damn thing on or start recording was a pain in the ass. Nothing was intuitive or clearly marked. Swear to God someone in China who never had used a camera in their life must have been given the task for the design of this thing.

I could give a dozen things but here's just a couple .

There's a tiny little scroll type wheel that you have to ever so carefully try and use to scroll with your thumb for a whole variety of functions being extremely carefully not to at the same time be pressing it to hard while trying to scroll otherwise you will inadvertently be making a selection of something you don't want to select. And yes within a day of using it this happened while simply trying to delete one vid all our vids got deleted with no "Are you sure you want to delete all files?" option being givin as a safe guard.

In addition the recording quality was pitiful with numerous vids having sound and picture out of sync and audio recording of musical instruments sounding wobbly in places etc.

In addition there's no way to use the camera as a HD webcam or as a direct feed Movie Maker type software as most other cameras do now which was a major drawback.

Then when we couldn't find the CD driver that came with it we went to the website to try and download it only to find no listing for this model at all. Called today and tried to get an answer why there was no listing and got some very rude tech support guy that basically gave no apology for the frustration and hassle I had to go through in not finding it on their site and just dismissed the issue by saying well you don't need it to download vids to my computer anyway. (Well my computer running Vista actually does not recognize this camera when plugged in and doesn't find the drivers.) I tried to explain that my original question was how do I get the download of the proper drivers that came with the camera he starting pulling some A Hole power trip on me claiming I interrupted him etc. and just got belligerent with me. I told him where to stick it and hung up.

Only reason hadn't immediately returned it was it was a gift and didn't want to offend a family member by telling them what a frustration the whole camera had been.

So my advice, stay clear of all that this company has to offer.

It doesn't come with a way to run it on AC power with a power adapter which would be nice and you'll need to keep extra AA batteries on hand as they tend to run down pretty quickly if recording video. On the upside it produces a pretty good quality video.

My kid had this camera on her christmas list this year, I wish my wife had not purchased it. It is a TOY it uses AAA batteries, and the battery life is about 1 minute. Unless you like frustration stay away.

I have the blue version of this camera. Tho I like it, and it works fine for what I use it for, the MOV files format it films in was my issue. They aren't acceptable formats on most video editing software. It requires me using Quicktime player and the video editing software it does come with messes up sometimes on my computer. I would like to try this little camera again, but I'm unsure if the minor glitches I mention have been fixed since then.

I bought the Sony Mavica MVC-350 camera to compliment my Nikon film cameras. I wanted a camera to build a website and to take photos of things that did not necessarily need to be printed out on photo paper. Most of the digital cameras I found were small and the controls tiny. Or they needed a memory stick with very limited photo storage space an then these memory sticks were expensive. Some cameras are so small you can barely hold them without fear of dropping them and this is not the case for the Sony. Also battery life was also a concern as my first digital camera ate AA batteries for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Floppy disks were ok, but again, photo capacity was not very large in the higher resolution modes. That's when I found the Sony MVC-CD350. It is a 3.2 megapixel camera with a 3x lens and built-in flash. It has a CD-R/RW drive in it for high capacity storage onto a 8 cm CD-R or 8 cm CD-RW disc. The MVC-CD350 uses a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery and it's life is about 130 minutes. It was exactly what I was looking for! The picture quality and the speed of the drive is very good.

After charging the battery (it comes with one and a charger) I dropped in a CD-RW and turned on the camera. No, I did not read the manual.... I was asked to initialize the CD-RW and after a few seconds I was snapping pictures. I also discovered, on my own and not by reading the manual, that it can take MPEG movies. I will never use this mode but I know it would be a handy feature for some folks.

After filling the disk with a few dozen pictures I finalized the disk (had to read the well laid out manual) and put then it into my computer. It was very simple. The MVC-CD350 also comes with a USB cable (version 2.0 compatible) and, after installing the software on my PC, I downloaded the pictures from the camera. There were about 50 MB (or so) of photos and the transfer process went rather quickly; I'll guess 3 minutes or less.

The controls for the camera are nice size, even for my fat fingers and the layout is fairly logical. The only thing I do not care for is the location of the power button. I think it's too close to the shutter release. A friend owns the same camera and she doesn't think it's a problem, so it has to be me.

The built-in flash does a pretty good job and it has the red-eye reduction mode. You can vary the light output from the flash to from "Low/Normal/High". I call it a "party flash." You can buy a better flash from Sony but, like any powerful flash, it's big. For a party or casual use, the built-in flash seems to work fine.

The display/viewfinder on the back is bright and quite large. It measures 2" wide and 1-1/2" high. The display is of high enough resolution so you can review all pictures you have taken.

Overall I like this camera. The CD drive and rechargeable battery are big selling factors for me. Also, since it is made by Sony I know parts and service are easy enough to find.

What would I improve? The lens. I wish you could change the lens out, like an SLR type camera. The lens is ok, but I would love it if Sony had a interchangeable lens system. Otherwise, no complaints from me!

I love this camera. I don't have to develop film anymore or find a computer to remove the pictures from my camera when I am on a trip. I just need to pop in a new cd and keep on snapping! This camera takes great pictures in all kinds of light--we have beautiful pictures of sunsets and the ocean on a bright sunny day and clear pictures of us around a campfire. I don't have the problem of waiting for the camera between pictures like I had with previous digital cameras. You can also film close to an hour of mpeg movies on one disc. The battery runs practically all day, too. The only drawback I found was it was a little heavy to lug around Disneyland all day. We solved this problem by rotating it among our family members, though (everyone got to take their own pictures then, too). If you are a novice at photography like I am, this camera is for you. It is easy to learn how to use features like the zoom and flash (even without the manual) and takes nearly foolproof pictures, although you still have to remember to keep your thumb out of the way! The cds are great for storage of pictures--no more boxes of pictures that can get ruined over time or big, bulky photo albums. To anyone considering this camera, I say throw away those old rolls of film and buy this camera!

After a couple of years of using a Mavica 73 for web shots and a Canon 35mm for vacation photos (the serious stuff), I decided to upgrade digitally for a much higher resolution with the 350.

After taking some test shots, I realized I could trust this camera with the vacation and family photos that required superior reproduction for prints. The resolution is terrific! This is coming from someone who made money with theatrical, model, and advertising photograpy and even had a photo published in the World Book article on theater.

This is actually a computer that takes pictures and movies, and is easy to operate if you limit your technical requirements. There is very little intuitive about using the buttons & controls through series of menus, so I brought copies of the most important instruction book pages along on our cruise, and did refer to them two or three times.

Just like with the 73, the results appear much better on the LCD screen than on the monitor, so most shots needed photoshop enhancing to increase bot brightness and contrast. Of course, the corner drug store photo processors will also increase brightness, but they ordinarily do not touch contrast.

Also, several shots needed -cyan for better color balance -just like the early 73 Mavica.

Two of my Sony disks failed in the camera, and my friend, who bought a 350 because she like mine, also lost all her photos when her Sony disk failed in the camera. The Sony tech support guy said "It happens," and sent me a replacement for the first one. But after 30 days, no more replacements. I did buy three costly re-writeable disks at $6 each from Sony on line, one failed with only 12 photos taken, but it was too late to get a replacement from Sony. "Sorry."

Luckily, I came across some software that lets users miraculously recover otherwise "lost" files on CDs and DVDs, and I was able to save nearly all the shots from disks that, when examined with Windows Explorer, showed NO FILES! I recommend non-Sony disks that are five for six dollar at retail, and the first five that I used not only worked flawlessly, but held about 30 more photos than the Sony disks. It's because of the latent possibility of such devastating disk errors that I took one star off the rating.

Also, the file transfer software supplied with the camera does not display any text, so I have to rely on using a magnifying glass to read the tiny screen captures in the instruction manual.

Neither Sony nor the software publisher's tech support could help with this stupidity, and each referred me to the other.

Everyone needs this camera because it's brilliant. My husband and I just bought it, and yes it's very costly on the front end, but we will never have to buy another roll of film, or waste money on processing. We can take tons of pictures now and not even have to think about printing them until we are much more fincially stable. Just last night we went to a Halloween party and took 132 pictures (I kid you not) and it didn't cost us anymore money than if we had taken 2, not so with regular film cameras. You do have to buy the pocket disks but they are dirt cheap, 10 for $6.00 or so and each disk will hold about 145 high quality picutres. I recommend the Memorex cool colors pocket CD-Rs because they are colorfull and therefore easy to keep track of. We haven't had any "technical difficulties" as far as the battery goes or the disks. If you are considering buying a camera you should definitley get this one, even if you have to do a payment plan of some sort. It will end up saving you money in the long run.

I had no intention of getting this item since I already had a digital camera, but I was immediately drawn to buying one by the ability to use cheap CD-R and CD-RW media, and the unlimited movie mode (limited by media only). As of this writing, no other camera matches this series at the comparable price. Unless Sony releases a DVD-RW capable camera at similar cost, I expect that this camera will last me for some time!

Pros:

CHEAP media great for trips when you don't have a computer to offload pics, and you don't want to spend almost the price of your camera to get extra storage space. Since it's just normal CD's, you'll be able see the pics on pretty much any computer (make sure to do the "finalize" on the camera beforehand though).

Video mode get a cheap digital video device. It can store about 8 min per CD on high quality (640x460) mode and 1.5 hours on low-quality (160x160). (see related CON)

Picture quality blows my old Olympus digital camera away. Lots of options to configure and learn to make you feel like a wanna-be pro photographer.

Pretty good reaction time People worry about extra lag in burning each pic onto the CD, but I don't really notice it.

Consistent battery I had doubts about the proprietary battery, but it is BY FAR better than my old camera that used normal rechargeables. Each charge lasts about 2 hours and the indicator is pretty accurate down to the minute pretty much.

Cons:

Larger physical size This is probably THE biggest deterrent to getting this camera. You can't exactly keep it in your pocket to point and shoot at parties, or sneak shots without people noticing. So think about how you're going to use a digital camera, and if having a camera that fits in your palm is more important than the advantages of this camera, look elsewhere. To be fair, it's not that much bigger than my parent's non-digital camera.

Resolution 3.2 is not the highest resolution available at this price these days. however, it's DEFINITELY sufficient for my needs, and each pic takes up less storage space. heck, I'm not trying to print posters here!

Video mode Although it suffices to capture lots of things with accompanying sound, the camera has no lighting in video mode -making night-time movies not so great. The captured videos also seems to come out darker than other digital cameras without lighting, though that may be helped by some post-processing. This camera is also awkward for capturing lengthy events at high quality (changing discs every 8 min isn't exactly ideal). Again, think about what's important to you. At similar prices, devices that advertise themselves as multifunction video and photo probably take better video, but much worse photos.

Warnings:

I bought 200 mb discs for this camera ignoring warnings that 156 mb ones work best. Well, I found sometimes I did have some issues with reading completely-full discs in the computer, but just used the handy USB cord to transfer instead. Out of about 10-15 discs of pictures and videos I've taken, I also had one occasion where the disc got corrupted. However, that happened when I was at critically low battery trying to take video on an almost-completed 200 mb disc.

Bottom Line:

After I got this camera, I found that I didn't want to let go of my old (smaller) digital camera because I still liked the small size for some things. That's probably the only reason I wouldn't recommend this camera to anyone and everyone. It's funny to me that even with digital cameras, people still find themselves having to think about whether to take a picture or not since they don't have so much storage space, or haven't unloaded old pictures, or are not sure how much battery they have left. This camera solves these problems. I wouldn't want to go on a vacation with any other camera.

I purchased this DVR system after someone managed to get into our garage. I have another Q-See system that included a built in monitor that I use as a mobile IR camera set up. I was happy with Q-See for the most part so I trusted them again. My system is actually the QT474-452-5, the difference being the cameras included with the package

This DVR is very compact and small compared to the 4 channel I purchased a few years ago. However, the interface is improved, and the BackUp USB port is on the front so I don't have to lean and reach over the DVR or turn it around with all the wires attached to get my zip drive into the port.

I have a new Cable Modem, and new Router so I have all of the latest technology updates. This system almost installed itself including the remote monitoring. Q-See includes a few large instructional posters with the unit, one to do your basic set up and one to configure the remote monitoring.

I chose a spot in my basement, and was set up and running with remote monitoring in a little over an hour (Camera installation took more time.). Because my equipment was newer, the Plug N Play feature worked and automatically set up my connection to my router. All I had to do was test it using the supplied web page URL and grab the DSN number and I was pretty much done. I was able to log in remotely from all PC's in the house. The first time you attempt this on each machine it will prompt you to install a web interface program from Q-See. It says its compatible with Firefox, but I never got it to work with Firefox on my PC's. It needed a plug in that I never found. I just used IE instead. I was also able to get in using my iPhone by simply downloading the correct app from the app store and entering in the IP and password.

My only issue was that when you want to shut down the system, you go into the main menu and select Shut Down, wait a minute or two and you'll get a message that it is OK to power down the DVR. This requires you to pull the power plug from the back of the unit or unplug the power brick. My other Q-See has a little power switch on the back, that would have been nice to have here.

With this system you will need to invest in a monitor or a TV so you can set it up and view the menu or video streams from your security center. The DVR includes the RCA to BNC connector for TV hook up, and a HDMI cable. When you buy a monitor, it should include the VGA cable or you'll need to purchase that too.

All of the cameras worked perfectly out of the box. My cameras are the 500/100 where these cameras are the 400/70. This refers to the IR power and distance they can see. The higher the numbers the better. Installation was not too hard. I wanted to avoid mounting to my siding or soffet, so I mounted them to the downspouts under the soffet and ran the cables down the C channels on the corner and then tucked it under the siding and through a hole into the basement.

So far I am pleased with the ease of set up and installation. My other system I never did get the remote monitoring set up and working as the interface is rather crude, but I don't need to use that feature as its not a permanent installation use system. We'll see how this system does at capturing things going on at night while we are asleep.

A decent remote ip camera for home applications. Setup was easy, although I have set up similar products before. Shipped camera did not work properly in Firefox, although after I downloaded the upgraded firmware the issue was addressed. Focus is not great in low-light situations, but acceptable. I would recommend for the casual home user, but would suggest a more expensive version for business applications.

I bought this camera for the pan/tilt feature, but I found out that it does not work with well with Vista. I also thought the video would be as good as the TV-IP110W fixed wireless camera, but it is not. I am an IT guy and I have used several cameras and this is one of the worst I have ever used. I do wish Trendnet would get their act together and make a pan/tilt wireless with a high quality video sensor. Their other products are much better than this one. Buyer BEWARE....

I bought one for my house 1 1/2 years ago so I could see my cat when I was out on business, then I bought another one 4 months ago to monitor the back entry and traffic area. I haven't had problems with them and setup was relatively simple, after following the instructions.

I am a very detailed person and compared feature to feature, this product to similar D-Link and Linksys models. TRENDnet beats them on features and the price is 1/2 of that of D-Link.

You can pan and tilt the camera when you are out on business and it sends me email alerts when motion dection is triggered.

I purchased this camera to use at my cabin. I have trouble keeping a computer with a conventional webcam alive when I'm not there, so this was a great solution since it plugs straight into the router and functions without a computer. I find the picture quality to be good as long as there is adequate lighting. Actually, you can see quite a bit even in low light. I haven't been able to figure out how to put the video feed onto a separate web page, otherwise I would give the camera five stars. Programming the router for remote access via your ISP is not all that easy, but it can be done with a little understanding of IP addressing and networks. The camera has an amazing pan and tilt range!

Works as advertised, but the Java plugin is mysterious. I can't get it to work in Java mode on my Vista based PC, but it does on XP. None of my Macs can do it over the web. Active X in Explorer works fine. A bit pickier than the stationary trendnets.

Camera works great, easy setup, worth the price. Just be aware you're not going to view live motion with anything by Windows Explorer and Active X.
