DEFENDER 21005 Ultra Resolution Outdoor Security Cameras

I have a SVAT video surveillance system. The cameras that came with the system worked good but it was hard to identify someone unless they were standing on a pre-marked spot with their name in a string around their neck.

I looked on the internet for a better camera that would not put me in the poor house, and I settled on this one.

After it came, I put it on a portable mount and played with it for several days. I must say that I was impressed.

The color is a good as any portable video camera that I have ever owned. The night vision is great. It might not illuminate someone in dark clothing at 100 feet but it does show movement in lighter clothing well beyond 75 feet.

It is now permanently installed watching one of my entry doors. It hasn't caught any suspicious activity as of this writing, but I am sure if it does, we will be able to identify who it is.

I purchased a $700 8-camera system from Defender 2 years ago and installed it myself during new home construction. It has worked fine, but I never thought the 420TVL cameras looked as good in real life as they looked on the Defender website. I just ordered 2 of the 21005 cameras to upgrade to 600TVL. The problem is the new cameras use a totally different connection than the old ones, which is not clear at all here or on the Defender website. Worse, there is no way to contact anyone there for assistance or to see if an adapter is available. I found a telephone number, but it is never answered. When I filled out the online customer service form and submitted it, I received a "page not found" error. I got the same result when I clicked on the "Live Chat" button.

I cannot recommend any company that works so hard to avoid customer contact. I am returning these 2 cameras and when the original system needs replacement I will not consider Defender again.

Amazon is a great company to deal with, so I know there won't be any problem with a return, but Amazon should consider dropping Defender products until they do a much better job with their non-existent customer support.

I purchased this camera for two reasons, Amazon's price was way below the manufactures price and because I wanted a middle of the road unit. I would not consider this a high end unit but it is a LOT better than their bottom of the line units. Works well at night. Well it's just my luck; the camera quit sending a color image after a week of use. S**h happens and I do not want to give this manufacture a bad review because of one camera not working. I have 4 more of the same cameras and they are working fine. Good resolution and night time viewing.

Installed a set in the front yard (the hard part is determining best location) connected to a video server (http://www.amazon.com/IP-Network-Server-Broadcast-without/dp/B000HBVTCA) and running 'motion' on my Linux server and liked the results so much that I bought another set (and another video server) for the back/side yards. The daylight color looks quite good, the nighttime black/white IR is also sharp (for about 25') and then fuzzy but recognizable shapes (cat v human) until about 50'. I liked the idea of no moving parts (i.e., less chance of breakage) so choose the Defender brand. I'm glad I did, they are metal (no plastic) and fill solid, hide the cord and perform well for my needs.

I ordered this camera to replace an older and much smaller bullet camera that doesn't have IR lighting. The Defender camera has excellent video quality and appears to be built to last. Excellent weather resistant design. For my particular application, I had two problems with it. First, it's big, much bigger than my old bullet camera. Second, it only adjusts left/right and up/down. You can't rotate the camera (and the image) independently if you need to mount it upside down. If these two things don't affect you, you will probably like this camera.

It is a decent design but it was shipped to me with some serious flaws. There could be the possibility that the one I received was subjected to moisture and ended up with some corroded parts. Let me explain. When I received it I noticed that, after tightening the knob, the joints would not lock so I decided to pop the C clips out and disassemble the locking mechanism to find two 2" pins that were corroded and binding within the channel in the arms. I took some emery cloth and sanded the pins down made the smooth again and lubricated the pins. Now the pins move freely and the locking system works properly. There is also the possibility that the corrosion might be from the fact that the pin is steel and the arm is aluminum and the channel in the arm had too tight a fit so liberally sanding the pin made it correct diameter. If you get one that doesn't lock then try the repair (it only took 10 minutes or so)and you will have a good clamp at a reasonable price.

This thing is super strong. It's easy to unlock and move each of the articulating joints, yet when you tighten it up, everything is rock solid, with no slippage anywhere.

The clamp itself is strong and opens quite wide, yet it doesn't take many turns to open or close it.

One great thing is the flexible mounting options on both sides. You can mount the camera or the clamp on either side and you can easily swap genders with the included adapters so it can mount on top of or instead of your tripod or other gear.

I have a few 7" LCD screens and these little clamps are perfect! The articulating arm along with the clamp allow me to use this on a tripod at different heights and they work great. Sometimes with cheaper equipment the arms will tend to sag under the weight of certain accessories, but these are holding up quite well with a 7" LCD on each one. These are great to have available! Definitely a must have!

This device is not precisely made, but it works great once you apply a bit of mojo. It will hold, say, a flash in place at an otherwise hard to achieve orientation for a full shoot, which makes it an essential tool for my macro work. However, upon arrival the ball joints would not go through full rotation because the metal retaining clips were misaligned, that is, not completely seated in their grooves in the sockets. I used a small screwdriver to move the retaining clips back into their grooves. Also the device was cranky and creaky, but a few squirts of WD40 and about five minutes of workout got things going. The secret to using it is to apply a LOT of torque when you're tightening it up. But be careful about where and how you clamp it -for example, I'm leery of clamping it onto the legs of carbon fiber gear, and even on aluminum I apply the least force needed to keep it in place. If you use flash for macro, you will treasure the utility of this device.

I bought this cam-corder because of budget constraints. Even tough I wanted a unit with many more features I find myself very pleased. I sold camcorders and known about home versions since they first became available. And of course Sony was number one then. The 130 is my third unit I owned, the others being VHS. Having a zoom up to 560, night shot, steady shot, I-link, many fades, and filming features are a big plus. I had it for about a month and find it lite and easy to use. The built in light is also a plus (eats batteries). Lot's of accesaries are available from Sony. All it lacks is a micrphone socket, wich will help zoom in on sound while elimnating background noise. Other than the mike jack you get A LOT OF BANG FOR THE BUCK.

I'll be honest and admit that if you want to spend a thousand dollars on a camcorder than you will definitely find something better. However, if you are somebody like me who had limited funds to spend but wanted all the everyday features a ... person would want, then this is the camera to buy! All the basics are included (still photo shots, fantastic zoom abilities, picture stabilization, ability to film in complete darkness and amateur picture manipulation capabilities).

It also hooks up to a PC using a fire wire cable (IEEE1394) and a video capture board, which I recommend buying the StudioDV from Pinnacle Systems that includes both for ... then getting sucked for ... by purchasing Sony's brand. Also I found the Laser Link feature to be the best features, allowing me to play back my tapes on the TV without having to hook up the camera to it every time.

Overall, the DCR-TRV130 is a great camera for what you're going to spend on it.

The Sony DCR-TRV130 is a good cam for the money. Two things that you should consider before you buy: Your computer may need to be upgraded to allow you to download digital images... and don't expect Sony to help you out with software issues. I got the Belkin firewire card... which came with VideoWave III software and a HP CDR to store images..., I also had to upgrade to Win 98 SE. But once you are set up its a breeze. You don't have to shot any digital photos with the capture button on the camera just export individual images from the video. Also, the camera itself is simple to use, which is great for our family because my wife can use it and so can our nieces.

I've bought my camcorder about a month ago and find it to be a dream. This is an upgrade of my 5 year old Sony camcorder and it has all the useful features that you would expect. It also includes a Lithium battery, a built-in light and a night-viewing system that allows you to shoot in total darkness.

I would fully recommend this to anyone looking at camcorders.

This camera is excellent. Excellent Price, excellent features. Picture quality excellent with Stereo Sound. Digital8 holds it's own against MiniDV. One good reason for buying this cable is to match a white colored laptop. One good reason to never buy a cable from Cmple is because they stole from me. I was bait and switched. I ordered 10 decent cables at a fair price and they substituted no name crap. There is a difference between cheaply made and well made cables, especially when you approach the 5 meter limit for this signal on this gauge of wire. It is important to choose a trustworthy merchant when buying HDMI cables.

I got 3 of these for a home entertainment product, ran the wires through the wall, tied down the cables, etc. 2 of the 3 worked. I had to order more cable and take the TV back off the wall, etc the next weekend. Painful. I ordered my next cable from Monoprice. It was about the same cost but appeared to be much higher quality construction.

If you get these, I would test them first before running them through the wall to make sure you don't have a dud.

This product was reasonably priced, however when I hooked it from my cable box to my TV, I could not get a picture. I got a "no signal" message on my TV. I replaced this cord with a spare one I already had and the signal from the cable box to the TV was perfect. I have no idea if this was a rare occurrence with this product or not. I do not understand if "version 1.3 Category 2, 1080p Mac" is a type of cable that cannot be used to connect a TV signal from the source to a TV...and if it is..this should be explained in the product ad..as I am assuming all video HDMI cables are the same

I'm using this HDMI cable to connect my wife's HP laptop to our 1080p Samsung HDTV. I choose this one because the cable is white, like her laptop and some of the other cables running around the baseboard. Works great -the image quality is perfect and the connectors seem well made.

I ordered this in Dec. 2009, and have used it to connect a laptop to a HDTV, primarily for watching Netflix movies. It died this week.(March 2013) I verified that it wasn't working by substituting a shorter cable, which worked fine. As far as I know, there are no moving parts in a HDMI cable, so this product should have lasted forever.

I just received this system yesterday and am returning it today. I purchased it to take wildlife photos and expected it to have continuous shutter firing as advertised. It does not. After setting my 7D and the receiver for continuous shooting and pressing the shutter button on the receiver the shutter fired ( very slowly ) twice and then stopped. I have ordered another brand and hopefully will have better luck with it.

DEFENDER 21002 Hi-Resolution Outdoor Security Cameras - 4 Pack

Purchased these to expand my existing Defender System to 8 cameras and after installing and testing all four, took them back down and sent them back. The color output does not even come close to an acceptable output no matter how much adjustment was done to the picture. Also at night the camera output flickers and is fuzzy compared to my existing Defender Cameras. Aside from the color output being wrong the daytime picture was clear as far as making out details.

I do have a system with the 21006 cameras. The 21002 are a major step down.

I ordered these defender security cameras to replace 2 samsung cameras that died after 2 years. The quality of these cameras is terrible. Colors are wrong, video is soft and blurry. The mounting brackets are very difficult to adjust. The grass in my back yard viewed with the samsung camers is dark green. When I plug in the defender cameras the grass appears red.

Defender's next generation cameras are an upgrade from their now-discontinued Spartan line. Be advised, if you are upgrading Spartan cameras to these new 21002 models, you will have to re-cable from the old 4-pin DIN cables to the new tandem RCA and 12v DC cable standard (a pain if you've already strung the 4-pin DIN cables through inaccessible routes).

The new 21002 line cameras have increased numbers of IR LED illuminators, and offer improved spot viewing after dark. Unfortunately, like their Spartan predecessors, they still have reduced color differentiation. Green objects in daylight illumination look red, and black objects in sunlight look purple. This is not a huge drawback in building a scene...purple trees just look odd. For the price these are a good upgrade/replacement item, compatible with earlier Defender display and recording units. At 420 lines, I'm not sure how they claim "Hi-Resolution". Face recognition at more than 5 meters is sketchy. But the cameras are physically pretty rugged, easy to install, and have withstood (so far) some pretty extreme temperatures.

the picture looks fine at night just the night vision dont come on all the time so it looks dark in our door way for a few HRs a day, the base is non detachable so its hard to put in the screws but its tough built, but my biggest dissapointment was that the 60ft security camera extension wire modle# DF10W that we bought dont work with the cameras and we had bought 4 for $19.00 each so now they are useless but it dose its job, O and we did not get the 4 decals.

I used these on an older defender DVR system and they exceed the recording capability of that DVR. In fact they exceed the recording capability of most new DVRs too! But the image records clearly and with pretty good fidelity.
