Panasonic HDC-HS100 Flash Memory High Definition Camcorder with 60GB Hard Drive & 12x Optical Zoom

Panasonic HDC-HS100 Flash Memory High Definition Camcorder with 60GB Hard Drive & 12x Optical ZoomThe marketing is a bit deceiving. It states that it is full 1920x1080 HD. While it is true that it records in this resolution, the sensors' native resolution is not even close to 1920x1080, so the recording is up scaled. It's not even 1280x720. If you read the specifications on the Panasonic web site, each sensor is only 610k (1280x720 is 900k and 1920x1080 is 2025k). The x3 they advertize does not mean that the total resolution is 610k*3, because each sensor is for a separate color channel. Even if it was 610k*3, it still falls short of 1920x1080. The color contrast is really impressive, but the low native resolution produces an image that is grainy (even with sufficient light levels) when compared to other HD content on my 1920x1080 Samsung television. I have since returned the unit.

For the price I suppose it's a quality HD video camera you can get. Image quality is solid and the built in 60 gig storage is awesome.

If you have a mac, it will easily sync with any version of iMovie after iMovie '08. I had iMovie HD on my 3 year old mac and was disappointed when I found out I had to purchase a new version of iLife to unload the video files.

Another horrible design is in how you have to hook it up to the computer or TV. Apparently the designers are chronic crack heads because all ports are behind the battery. You have to remove the battery, use the charging cord to plug the camera into an outlet, then plug in the video cables or USB cable where the battery was. It's quite possibly the worst design ever because it makes it impossible to sync the camera with battery power.

If not for this horrible design flaw I'd love this camera. Every other aspect has made me happy. Well, the built in microphone isn't great, but it is okay. Due to the battery issue I do wish I had done a little more research to see if there's an alternative HD video camera.

*UPDATE (July 19, 2010): I originally rated this with 4 stars. I paid around $600 for this camera about a year ago. Now that I see it costs up around $1000 I'm dropping my rating to 3 stars. This is nowhere close to being a $1000 camera. Actually, due to the fact that all the ports are behind the battery I'm not 100% sure it's worth $600.

This camcorder is packed with features and is very easy to use. Being full HD the image quality is absolutely amazing. I was considering buying an SD camcorder and was so glad I decided to spring the extra cash for HD. Optical zoom is fantastic & it fits in the hand easily. Favorite feature would have to be its' easy compatibility with my Panasonic BD-60 Blu-Ray player. You won't be dissapointed with this one!!!

Fujifilm FinePix AV200 14 MP Digital Camera with Fujinon 3x Optical Zoom Lens (Silver)

Fujifilm FinePix AV200 14 MP Digital Camera with Fujinon 3x Optical Zoom LensI bought this camera because it was the cheapest at my large local Japanese electronics store, it runs on AA batteries, and as well as loads of pixels in the still camera mode, it takes high definition videos. High definition videos are important even, or especially, on Youtube to get a crisp result.

I tried a competing Canon product, the A495, but it was more plasticy, thicker, the picture quality was no better, and it takes only SD movies.

The picture quality is fine. It is easy to use. The AA batteries are brilliant because I can always put in new ones without waiting to charge. The only other way to ensure that your camera is ready is to purchase a spare chargeable and a charger but that puts 30% on the cost of the camera.

My more expensive cameras (Canon D40, Sanyo Xacti HD2000) are both in for repair. I needed a stop-gap camera. And at this price you can't go wrong, quite.

The only problems are it is a little slow between photos (the time taken to save the last photo before allowing the next one to be taken is about a second or so and very far from instantaneous), and when strongly over exposed there are purple lines below and above the over exposed portion of the photo. That may be a problem of the particular camera that I have, which was an ex-display model. It is not that thin like more expensive models but who wants really thin? The bulbous right hand side, that contains the AA batteries, allows for a grip. The zoom isn't much at three times, but I hate zooming anyway. There is no way to switch between movie and still camera mode wihtout using a menu. I would have prefered a switch.

Recommended camera.

Decent camera with good features and price. However Folks (especially if you own this), mine had a major defect that does NOT seem to be an isolated case. When shooting video at 640 resolution, the audio and video will go severely out of sync and start to phase and echo in really weird ways at about 1:15 minutes (does NOT happen at 720 res). I repeatedly tested this to make sure it was not a one time accident, and the weird sync echo phasing problem happened every time, and will show on both the camera playback, and as an uploaded video on your computer. Coincidentally, one day while looking at video tests of this camera on YouTube, I found 2 comments stating this very same problem, so it is NOT isolated and perhaps deserves a recall. I suspect that most people who own this will shoot video at the max 720 resolution, so they may not be aware of this defect. I encourage owners to test this and will be curious to see the results. Luckily I discovered this defect before the Amazon return period expired and got a refund. It's a shame, because otherwise, it would be a pretty good deal. Cheers.

As a first digital camera the Fuji FinePix AV200 is a good choice, it is economical, has plenty of features however the user manual has much to be desired in terms of simple step by step instructions. Being my first camera in many years I still hold it up to my eye when lining up to take a picture... I guess a view finder would be useful for me :)

Very nice camera for the price. Very disapointed that I could not use it right away. Fugi technical support said it has no internal memory for storing pictures of any amount. It does say that a memory card is not included, but I've had other cameras that allow you to store some pictures on its own internal memory.I cannot find anywhere writen on the box or product discription that you MUST have a memory card to save pictures of any amount!

Lorex LW2001 Digital Wireless Portable Color LCD Surveillance System (White)

Lorex LW2001 Digital Wireless Portable Color LCD Surveillance SystemPreface: This is my first ever wireless camera, which I am using as a baby monitor, one of the uses advertised on the product packaging.

Color reproduction is extremely poor, even in a well lit room. I do not expect the video to be as vivid or natural as the photos shown on the product packaging, but the color is very washed out, noticeably worse than any webcam that I have ever seen under similar lighting conditions.

Placing the monitor unit anywhere near (i.e., within 3 feet of) my notebook computer completely disrupts the 802.11g wireless network transmission, making wireless networking impossible.

Thus, although this product works adequately as a security camera, it is totally unsuitable for use as a baby monitor.

Ignore the previous review, as its comment has no relevance for use as a baby monitor. Yes, the color quality isnt great, but you dont need to see your baby in high def vivid colors, just need to see your baby clearly, day or night, and it does that great. The range is great. The only flaw is the noise sensitivity alarm. The handheld receiver doesnt turn on from sound until your baby is virtually screaming. The sensitivity can be adjusted, but it doesnt help much. It does turn on however, so it is still usefull.

Buy Lorex LW2001 Digital Wireless Portable Color LCD Surveillance System (White) Now

The video works well in both color and black and white, but the device emits a high-pitched whine that drives my husband and I crazy! Also, when we run the fan in the baby's room, the camera doesn't pick up the baby's noises until he's being loud enough that we could hear him without the monitor! So, overall, I would recommend a different model, like Summer Infant.

I used this monitor last night and will be returning it tomorrow. The sound quality was terrible. It cut in and out. The picture during the day was just fine but was a little fuzzy at night. I would keep looking around if your using this to monitor a baby and want to hear them.

The product is ok. Image quality and sound are good for it purpose. In my case the only cont. is that the display has turned gray in several occasion without any explication, being at the same room as the camera. I have turned off, and wait a couple of minuets an when I turned back on, then everything works fine. I have tried to find why it doing this, and I haven't found anything yet.

The rest is good.

JVC GR-SXM740U Super VHS-C Camcorder with 3.5 LCDThe sound on this camcorder is good. My 12 year old son was able

to make a very understandable commentary on his video shoot.

The video is very good, even on standard "SP" mode-not S-VHS.

I was able to use zoom to follow a cat outdoors at 30+ feet and

on playback on a 48" RPTV I could see each of his whiskers

very clearly. The controls are not in the most ideal position.

The camera has good balance. I feel this a good family use

7" Articulated Magic Arm with Single Rod Clamp - 15mm (4 1/4"thread) for Dslr Rig Support System

7' Articulated Magic Arm with Single Rod Clamp - 15mm for Dslr Rig Support SystemJust received this arm and tried to use it on a shoot today with the Lilliput 7" 5D field video monitor. The swivel joints all lock tight with the knob. However. the threaded post into the 15mm rod clamp, is impossible to get tight enough. The weight of the monitor keeps causing it to loosen, allowing the monitor to swing like a barn door. I'm going to try some Loctite on the threads, but if that doesn't work, I'll probably have to get a stronger arm. If I had something lighter to mount, I'd probably give it four or five stars, but with the 7" monitor it just doesn't quite do the job.

ADDED Feb 8, 2013:

I ordered a Cowboy Studio super clamp and have attached the monitor to the tripod on several days of shooting. This works great. It is pretty east to position the arm so the weight is pushing down against the 1/4" threads to keep it from loosening. Also the whole setup is much more sturdy on the tripod. For moving around I adjust the monitor arm & monitor to hang straight down with the monitor facing toward the folded legs. This works pretty well for re-positioning the camera without removing everything. Since mounting the arm to the tripod, I could bump it to four stars.

ADDED Feb 11, 2013:

I just received a double 15mm adapter-it goes onto both rails and has the 1/4" threads for mounting the magic arm. This is much more stable that the original single 15mm clamp. I still haven't had to do any actual hand-held production, but with the Loc-Tite on the threads, this seems a lot more stable in just testing it out in the office. I'm not sure why this part is currently not available-hopefully they will get more in stock, as it is really useful. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007GWFN8E/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00

Sony Professional HVR-Z1U 3CCD High Definition Camcorder with 12x Optical Zoom

Sony Professional HVR-Z1U 3CCD High Definition Camcorder with 12x Optical ZoomThe HVR-Z1U seems too good to be true. And it is.

It promises a camera with full HD resolution and outstanding features for a reasonable price. In many ways, it delivers. The video quality is superior to the JVC HDV camera. Unlike the JVC, the camera offers full manual control and is a pleasure to shoot with professionally.

Alas for someone who expects and needs full HD resolution, the Sony is a disappointment. Pointing the camera at a resolution chart while viewing the output on a high resolution monitor (or on a computer after rendering to 1080i or 1080p) quickly reveals that the horizontal resolution is about 1200 lines, and vertical resolution is a little over 500.

The pixel count is thus about twice that of standard video, not four times, as we perhaps hoped. The 1200 lines of horizontal resolution is pretty good just about the same as 720p. But the vertical resolution is not very good at all.

A little math tells the story. Sony advertizes 1.1M pixels for each sensor, and 1440 lines horizontal. 1.1M/1440 gives a maximum of 770 lines vertical, not 1080 as promised. The measured vertical and horizontal resolution is distinctly lower.

An extensive web search revealed that the sensor has 1080 vertical lines, but only about 990 lines horizontal. To achive something closer to 1440 lines horizontal the green sensor is offset by half a pixel, and image processing is used to give a possible maximum resolution of 1440 on a black and white image. The problem is that the edge contrast beyond 900 lines horizontal becomes quite poor.

To make matters worse, (or to degrade the vertical resolution to match the horizontal) the vertical lines are read out of the sensor in pairs, so that each field is a mixture of two adjacent lines. This gives the vertical the same poor edge contrast as the horizontal.

It is possible by using the unsharp mask tool in Sony Vegas (or other editors) to improve the edge contrast. I use the maximum effect with the minimum radius in the Sony tool setting the radius slider to .001 pixels. You must do the sharpening operation using a properties setting of 1440x1080. Slightly better results can be obtained by putting an additional unsharp mask in series with the first, set to half-effect.

A major problem is deinterlace. Most editors (and most display devices) deinterlace by averaging fields, which reduces the maximum vertical resolution to 540 lines. You can add Mike Crash's excellent deinterlacer to the sharpening masks, and remove this limitation. Crash's smart deinterlace for Vegas can be downloaded for free with patience and persistence.

Sharpening and deinterlacing the image is very compute intensive. It takes me a good fraction of a week to do a two hour movie on a 3GHz pentium 4. But the result can be stunning. With the sharpening the Sony camera can give you a result that is close to a professional HD camera. I render to WMV9 rather than to MPEG2 remember to keep the properties at 1440x1080. After the render is complete, you can re-render to 720p, adding an additional bit of sharpening to compensate for the re-interpolation.

For best results always use a shutter speed of 60 frames/sec or higher. I have had mixed results with the steady shot option. Keep the camera as steady as possible, and try not to use more video gain than absolutely necessary.

Bottom line this camera produces video that is MUCH better than standard video, and significantly better than DV. But it would be awfully nice to have a camera that delivered the advertized resolution, and did it with a flat video frequency response.

I've used my Sony HVR-Z1U HDV camcorder in some very extreme conditions, and it it comes through on a regular basis. I shot Hurricane Katrina video footage during the storm (for StormStock) in driving 100 mph rain. At that time, I had purchased and was using a rain coat for the camera. It never failed. Previously, in Hurricane Dennis, the unit failed in the rain, without the coat. The screen went black. I dried it off with a hand dryer and it came back to life to be called back into action with Katrina.

My HVR-Z1U has shot hurricane video, tornadoes, lightning, and other storm footage, often in the rain and dust. And, it keeps on going.

The unit prefers mid-range lighting. It can shoot good footage if you give it that.

Sony can improve this unit by adding SDI to output to HDCAM. I'd also like to see true 24P added and maybe variable frame rates.

This camera is just a couple options away from being a professional system.

I've chosen this camera for my short film after viewing some rough footage at a local studio. The colors that this camera can capture in DV mode are jaw-dropping! It comes with all of the manual controls you could hope for and they're very intuitive. I highly recommend this to independent filmmakers if you're able to rent them in your area. It does not offer the 'truest' cinematic feel but if you do some research on the web you'll find resources for things you can do in pre & post production to get the feel you're looking for regardless of the camera you use.

Indie Filmmaker here, always looking out for a better camera!

The Sony HDV series is an astonishing technology

Don't let people tell you that the footage is "too compressed" ---technically, it is, but once it gets on screen, it looks stunning!

I haven't done much filming with this camera ---but I have seen its footage and edited its footage

Both on television and the computer monitor, I was impressed with its 'look' ---very detailed and extremely clear

Editing was a BREEEEEZE with this footage! I edited on Final Cut Pro and could composite 5 layers all above each other, each with a different opacity, and FCP's real time engine kept up without having to render! Thus, the compressed footage makes editing EASY but Sony has managed to make a beautiful picture out of this stuff too

For the Indie Filmmakers out there ---test one out before purchasing..... I find the Sony HDV to be the most clear look out there --emulating a beautifully shot NFL game on HD..... but for cinematic looks, I still may stick with the Panasonic DVX100, as there is a more cinema feel to that one

hope that helps

HAPPY BUYING!!!!

I have filmed and edited with this camera for 3 years and it is still the top of the line and current professional standard for HDV cameras. Its professional XLR sound capabilities set it apart from all the other camera in its price range.

The versatile aspect ratios and shooting abilities in any condition make this camera a must have for any professional and amateur indie filmmaker.

Very durable and strong construction with lots of manual control buttons quickly accessible to the cameraman. The menu is easy and intuitive.

Great for weddings and events of any kind! I cant tell you how many times over this camera has paid for itself and given me the competitive edge in a highly technical and fast paced job.

SVAT CV0204DVR Web-Ready DVR Security System with 4 High-Resolution Indoor/Outdoor Night Vision Su

SVAT CV0204DVR Web-Ready DVR Security System with 4 High-Resolution Indoor/Outdoor Night Vision Surveillance CamerasI recently bought this system and spent yesterday installing and tinkering with it. I am quite happy with it! Here are my thoughts: Everything that came in the box was as expected, save that the DVR didn't have an S-video output as I had seen it with before (I believe I bought an "upgraded" one which didn't have the output). I was initially disappointed, but later found that the regular video-only composite output worked fine for me. That was my only disappointment with the system, and it has turned out to be a non-issue. One of the big things I was looking for was ensuring that each camera didn't require a local power source, as I didn't relish the idea of running receptacles to each camera location. This one has a single cable with an S-video connector that runs to each camera and carries both power AND video signal, so that worked out great. Installation was a breeze (despite spending a day in my attic) and the components worked together the first time I put the system together. Bringing the picture up through the web was also a snap as well the instructions in the user guide are quite good for what you need to do. One of the biggest complaints about this system (and really all others in the sub-$1000 price range) that I had read before buying it is the lack of night vision clarity. I don't know what people are talking about with this particular system because I was impressed with the picture I got from the night vision from the cameras out to about 20 feet away from the camera in a completely dark inside room and with some lights (like indirect lighting through windows) my outdoor cameras were able to have a complete field of view. As far as installation, I am not a techie, but installing it was very straightforward and made sense. It went together quickly and though it took me a day to install, the majority of that time was spent running cables through walls and through ceilings to have all of the cables hidden from view. Data recording is a snap, and changing menu items is easy as well. The only thing I wish I had known before I installed the cameras is their field of view, which I had expected to be zoomed out a bit more than they actually are. Had I known what I was going to see, I would have probably mounted the cameras back a little further from the areas they are recording in order to get a better overall view. My suggestion would be to lay the system out BEFORE installing it to ensure that you are happy with the view that you have before you start drilling holes and running cable. Overall, I am very happy with the system and I have already recommended this system to a family member who is planning on buying it as well. I would highly recommend this to anyone!

My company bought this system to monitor an industrial robot. They work great and the picture quality is decent. It interfaced with our network easy enough. It is a great resource to be able to review the video history and even save screenshots and .avi videos to our pc's.

Only cons that kept this from getting 5 stars:

1. The camera mounts are terrible. They are poorly designed and have to be readjusted often. We fixed this by globbing silicone caulk around the base so they wouldn't move.

2. There is a well known hdd problem with these units. Apparently if you are recording and lose power, the hdd can get corrupted. This happened to us a few months after installing it. Luckily, all I had to do was use the reformat option in the menu and the hdd worked again even though we lost the data.

3. If you lose power you can lose all of your settings (camera setups and IP addresses) It can be a pain to fix but not that big of a deal.

4. When reviewing video history, the dvr makes chapters every 45-60mins. You pick one of these chapters and then have to ffw to the part you want to see. The ffw can be pretty slow and it takes awhile to get towards the end of the chapter.

Other than listed above we have been very happy with this system. At six hundred bucks you just can't beat it. We just ordered another and I'm sure it won't be the last.

We recently purchased and installed the SVAT web ready DVR system at our place of business after being hit by thieves and vandals. The night vision cameras were unbelievably bright in a dimly lit area. Some of the features I like about this unit is of course the night vision cameras, the ability to view the cameras over the internet, the ability to record continuously or as motion sensors.

This unit was well worth the money. We have not been burglarized or vandalized since installing these. The presence is an excellent deterent. HOWEVER, If they come back -We are ready!

SVAT CV0204DVR Web Ready DVR Security System w/4 High Resolution Indoor/Outdoor Night Vision Surveillance Cameras I recently purchased this item after going through the past couple of years with some moderate vandilism and criminal mischief around our house (ie. taking our decorative hay bails and lining them up across the road, stealing our decorative garden light, and breaking into our backyard to let our dogs out ultimately with one getting struck by a vehicle.) Anyway, these events led me on the hunt for a way to secure the place my family lives. I researched many types of camera systems and even consulted some experts and with my security background I came to the conclusion I need something simple and easy to install. When I came across this product, I knew I found what I was looking for. Well priced, good coverage, connects to the tv in the living room or any tv in the house for that matter, and I can see it from anywhere in the world! One point here, if you work for the government or somewhere with major firewalls, don't plan on being able to access this system from their network, I already tried and it doesn't work. Anyway, the installation was easy, I did spend most of the day in the attic running cables, but it was worth it. As far as the night vision goes, it works fine for me, although it's so windy here I do have to keep the lenses clean of the dust that blows around. The pictures day and night are perfect for my needs and it's in full color during the day. I did have some trouble with my internet service provider at first when I was attempting to access the system over the internet. But, a couple of phone calls to the SVAT support desk and I was up and running without any problems except the whole government computer issue. I now have full coverage around the house and my worries are minimized.

I get only B & W picture on my LCD TV not a big issue maybe needs adjustments and color off my computer.Day time camera pictures are very good and clear to 50 ft Night 25 ft and clear maybe more with outside lights. The best thing is to check the operation of the system prior to running the cables.Do a dry run with the cameras and check your angles set up was quick and simple after that.Up and running a week without any issues well worth the price so far. If not this model I recommend a security video system no matter what the perp says the tapes don't lie busted is busted Better security software & Remote would be a nice upgrade all in all I'm pleased

ADVANCED HIGH SPEED DIGITAL 6 FT HDMI 24k GOLD w/ PROTECTIVE FERRITE CORES

ADVANCED HIGH SPEED DIGITAL 6 FT HDMI 24k GOLD w/ PROTECTIVE FERRITE CORESI recently had the opportunity to test these HDMI cables with equipment

running at 1080p 60Hz with HDCP 148.5MHz The results were very positive.

Please note that success at 1080p depends on a lot of factors including quality

of TMDS transmitters, receivers, and anything you might have connected to the

cables like HDMI switches, repeaters, HDMI>DVD adapters, etc., therefore these

test results should be taken as a data point and not as a guarantee the cables

will be problem free @ 1080p with your specific equipment.

For example, during initial testing I had discovered through process of elimination

that one of the HDMI>DVI adapters I was using could not reliably pass 1080p. At

first I thought the cables were the issue, but after switching out the adapters, the

cables worked great.

Also please note, even though some of these cables are listed as only 1080i certified,

they did nevertheless pass 1080p without issues for the equipment combination I used.

See this post for what was tested at the factory:The process of listing a cable as passing visual inspection involved looking at black

screen for 30 seconds to detect sparkles, then watching video for 1 minute to detect

additional artifacts.

Sharp LC45GX6U is a 1920x1080 LCD display which accepts 1080p and 1080p/hdcp when

devices are connected directly to the panel, bypassing the external video processor.

Hope you find this information useful.

These are well made cables and at a CHEAP price. I dont know how they can sell such quality made cables at such a low price but somehow they do, and Im glad. With Fast shipping, I got the 3 cables I ordered quickly and as Advertised.

Really, you would have to be a complete Idiot to throw a Hundred Plus on some Way overpriced Monster Cable Garbage that uses lots of False advertising to get suckers to fall for it. Guess what, these cables are also Lifetime Warranty, not like youll ever need to worry about it. Stores like to display Side By Side Test Displays, and show one with Monster Cable in use and the other with a Generic cable, and of course the one using Monster is BETTER. What most people dont notice is that the picture on the Generic Cable Display and been purposely screwed up to look bad, or whats even better, they use a Composite connection on the Generic HDTV Display, (which means its not even showing a HD Picture) and a HDMI connection on the Monster setup. Most people arent going to try and see the cables and the hookups that are behind out of sight.

You could buy one of these new cables every year, for YEARS before you ever caught up to the price of buying a single Monster (Rip-Off) cable. HDMI is also a DIGITAL signal, as in 1s and 0s being passed though the cable, or as in On/Off, Power, No power. You either get a picture or you dont. Its not like a Analog single were the picture can get worse and worse.

Bought it July 24th at 1am, got it July 26th noon via USPS, from Califormia to Michigan!

Do not buy the same cables at your local stores or anywhere else Please. Monster-Cable-n-More provides, fast processing and most importantly, QUALITY CABLES!

First of all I have bought 10 of these cables for the Price of one at Best Buy, Not Kidding, I was a little skeptical but then understood why the manufacture could achieve such a great cable and then sell it to the reseller for low enough to then turn around and make a small profit, It's simple, the manufacture deals with the Sellers, instead of having 3 middle men like most companies (Except for WALMART. I also learned that by not paying for Marketing, Advertising, Branding, Packaging, Overhead (sales team, tech support, etc. They can Make a GREAT cable and sell it for way these that Best buy, Nothing is FREE folks, I learned this the hard way by always buying the cheapest, well the Cheapest is the Cheapest for a good reason, I am not contradicting myself because when I say cheap I mean $1-$5 cheap there's something wrong there, I feel this cable is fairly priced because of its length and quality, My Blue Ray picture looks great, my Audio Sounds Great, and I am good for years to come of future Technology, Look at how fast we are Creating High Def Audio/Video, I feel confident these Cables will see much use in the future.

A++ Buying experience as well!

Sony DCR-TRV330 Digital8 Camcorder with Built-in Digital Still Mode

Sony DCR-TRV330 Digital8 Camcorder with Built-in Digital Still ModeThis camera was a birthday gift from my sweetheart and isundoubtedly the best there can be for ME ! But for all you guys outthere here's what I found out.

1. Being digital hasadvantages... better resolution, color's great etc. Editing, however,is not so easy takes time and the right tools (e.g. 'AdobePremiere') so consider tapes being your primary storage medium. I'vemade VCDs and they're worth it but the quality is significantly lesserthan on tape.

2. Requires lots of light outside it'sbeautiful... inside JPG-like artifacts appear (also, colored dots ona perfectly white wall) But this is acceptable if you're *not* lookingfor professional quality.

3. Optical Zoom is great 25X one ofthe highest and definitely comes in handy. I've turned off digitalzoom (MoreThanYou'llEverNeed X) since it reduces picture quality and Ican anyway do it on the computer while editing. 25X optical is enoughfor most needs.

4. Picture stability (steady shot technology) isgreat shots from a moving car are stable.

5. Buttons are a bit tooclose to each other in my first exp., at a friend's party, I must'vemissed a cycle of on/off so, we got to see shots of table tops, walls;) and cleanly missed the action ;) fortunately this lasted for onlyabout 5 mins before i realized. The recording indicator is easy tomiss when you're concentrating on the subject (and if you've had ali'l too many beers ;))...

6. Memory stick stills taken in mediumlight again have JPEG artifacts and paying extra $... (over DCR-TRV230with no memory stick you *can* take stills on tape) for this is notworth it if you have a digital camera already. However, your cameramight not have 25X optical zoom so think about it. This camera usesthe same chipset for video and stills. In more expensive models, thereare two chipsets.

7. Night shot (shooting in darkness) sounds greatand works great if you don't mind loss of almost all color and agreenish tinge to everything. To our party, however, it gave a 'BlairWitch' effect everyone loved it. It's better to have some normal(intruding) light source attached to the CAM.

8. MIC is verysensitive and sound has been amazing throughout.

9. LCD is great -less dotty than DCR-TRV530 and uses less battery (1"smaller).

10. The bundled battery lasts for about 75 mins on an avgso you want to buy a backup for trips. Charging to FULL was somewhatslower than I expected.

This camera has some built-in editingfeatures which I am yet to explore fully.

To transfer the video tomy computer for editing, I had to shell out an extra $... for aFireWire kit. The installation on Windows 2000 was quite painless itdid everything for me except plug in the card physically.

Overall a4 rating a great camera and worth the money you put in even inthis recession.

My fiance and I just purchased this camera and boy was I impressed! This is our first camcorder but not the first one I have used. It's light weight make it easy to handle. And the steadyshot works quite well. My hands are quite shaky but you could never tell by watching something I taped! The picture quality is good, but I am only using the standard A/V cables. Once I get the S-video cables I should see a dramatic upgrade in picture quality. The battery it comes with isn't the best, only about 90 minutes fully charged. I particularly liked the nightshot feature. Although the images come out in a green tone the picture quality is outstanding. I was fooling around with it in a pitch black room and you could see everything clear as day(green of coarse). The LCD is exceptionally smaller than the 530 but it is still big enough to fit most people's needs. Of coarse if you want to save battery power just don't use the LCD. The only thing I can't comment about is the still picture option. I just spent a large sum of money on a straight up digital camera so I don't need to use that option. So I am sorry I can't help you out there! Overall the camera is excellent and I would suggest it to anybody looking for a new camcorder.

I must say its a decent camcorder. It has a easy user interface for downloading into my computer. Video quality was excellent . Unlike other people who bitched that under low light conditions that the picture was more grainier then earlier versions of Sony camcorders I found this to be not the case. This has been my 3rd Sony camcorder that I have purchased in the last 12 years and as usual I found it to be an excellent product. I love my sony dcrtrv330! i have taken it everywhere with me this summer. It is small and compact enough to carry around and gets the job done very well. The digital still camera function isn't the best. But i suggest just exporting frames from your actual video tape for that. Its very easy to do and you can get it in higher quality as well. You can also avoid closed eyes and the like b/c you can choose frame by frame what to do. i definitely recommend you get a ieee 1394 firewire adapter card to get better connectivity with your computer. The usb is fairly useless! Works better in brighter lights but does fine even with no light at all! I love mine and will never own anything else but a sony in the future!

Want Sony DCR-TRV330 Digital8 Camcorder with Built-in Digital Still Mode Discount?

The product comes with a starter package complete with a battery, charger, memory stick, cables, tripod, and various cables neatly tucked into a carrier the size of a shaving kit. The plug and play features and the MGI software provide easy installation via the VCR, computer, or still photos. Unfortunately, you'll have lots of fun exploring images but then your battery dies during the 4th quarter of your son's football game, and you miss the winning play! Buy a backup battery and a 32MB memory stick to catch all of the action! Great product.

JVC GZ-EX210 - PAL - Full HD Everio Wi-Fi Equipped Memory Camcorder, 1/5.8" CMOS, 40x Zoom Ratio Op

JVC GZ-EX210 - PAL - Full HD Everio Wi-Fi Equipped Memory Camcorder, 1/5.8' CMOS, 40x Zoom Ratio Optical, WhiteIt takes good videos and stills, but the wifi features are not for the impatient as I have not gotten the syncing, and emailing to work yet. If you give Wi-Fi top billing, it should not take a rocket scientist to figure it out. The sync app is another puzzle.....

I bought this camera from someone else, but I do have a couple of things to say about it. It does take great videos, and is easy to handle being small and light weight. The software that comes with it leaves a lot to be desired, and the manual (on the disc) is about useless. WiFi? I have not figured that out yet. No directions included that tells you what to do if you run in to problems. Camera works fine, battery that is included only runs about 30 minutes. You will need another larger battery. Other than that... Works great!

Panasonic Lumix TS20 16.1 MP TOUGH Waterproof Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom (Orange)

Panasonic Lumix TS20 16.1 MP TOUGH Waterproof Digital Camera with 4x Optical ZoomI have had this camera for about five months and I absolutely love it. I wanted a waterproof camera so I wouldn't have to worry about ruining it in rain, snow, dirt, or anything else I throw at it.

Here are some my favorite things about this camera:

-It has a really fast shutter speed so it captures subjects in motion without blur.

-It has a burst function that takes lots of pictures in a row, and so far they have come out incredible. I recently went cliff jumping and got some really good progressive shots of people falling in the air.

-The camera has really good speakers when playing back video.

-Picture quality is fantastic for a point and shoot, both inside and out. Some pictures taken in darker rooms turn out grainy, but that has happened with all my other cameras in the past.

-The wrist strap is adjustable so it can be securely fit to your wrist while in the water.

-The interface is really quick and easy to use.

-The camera turns on incredibly fast so it's good for spur of the moment photo-ops.

-You don't have to change settings between photo and video, you just push a different button for video to start recording. This is really nice because on my previous camera I often forgot to switch it back to photo mode and would take videos instead of pictres.

All in all I love this camera. I don't have any complaints about it yet and I would definitely recommend it! I would also recommend buying a spare battery. The charge holds pretty well but if you are using it a lot in a day it's better to be safe and have a spare just in case. Wouldn't want to miss any great opportunities for a picture!

TO ADD ON:

I recently had my camera at the beach and someone dropped it in the sand. All the cracks had sand in them, so I was a little worried. I just filled my sink with water and sat the camera in in for about 10 minutes, and all the sand just fell off. It's like nothing even happened! I was so happy since my previous camera was ruined by sand.

I bought the Panasonic TS20 digital camera for my trip and was very pleased! The camera is made of mostly metal and feels very solid and durable. It is very compact and fits in my pocket without a problem, a big plus+ for traveling and wanting to avoid carrying a big camera. Also, having this camera made me feel more comfortable about not scratching or damaging it because it is made to be handled without the 'white glove' treatment. I'll get to the main point of having this camera; it does take really nice pictures -outdoors / indoor and with good light. Night time pictures can be a bit tricky and you will have to play with the scene settings. Just like MOST small compact cameras, their strong points are NOT taking pictures in low-light situations. Don't forget, this camera is waterproof and can take picture / video under water. I haven't tried this feature, yet. Will this camera replace a DSLR or micro 4/3 camera? Not quite. It will be a great in taking quick snapshots when you want to go out and not worry about carrying an expensive camera/equipment. For example, going out for dinner with your wife/husband and/or friends.... IMHO you really don't want to be carrying any big camera ( I have a micro 4/3 camera and I think it is sometimes a bit big to carry in certain situations). Did I mention that it fits easily in your pocket? If you are looking for professional photos, this will not meet your needs. If you are looking for a rugged, all-around fun, waterproof and durable camera that takes great pictures, the Panasonic TS20 will fit your needs... especially at a reasonable price. Highly recommended!

I have to admit, that I wanted to like this camera. It was to replace my old and now, not working, Olympus SW720a precursor to the "tough" cameras. That camera went through a lot and kept working, till the screen went white for no apparent reason, but I digress...

This camera is thin & light. It has a 4x zoom (longer than my old cam). It shoots HD video (not SD like my old cam). It doesn't have a lens cover to jam up on sand, like my old cam. More resolution. Panny's "intelligent resolution" to ensure sharper looking images and "intelligent exposure" to brighten some darker areas. I looked forward to using it.

But the image quality was not up to what I expected. Even bright daylight photos, with a forced flash to fill dark detail, when you look at the photos at 100%the images just get muddy and undefined, they lack the detail I'd expect. In darker situations, image quality deteriorates pretty quickly. I tried forcing the ISO to 100. I tried letting the camera pick everything. I tried dropping the frame size in case it was "interpolating" to a higher resolution. Nothing helped. At best, some images are "nice" but none are great. Some suck. Several wee missed because the camera wasn't focused. I meanon the beach, there's my boy, and the whole shot is out of focus. What did it focus on? I have no idea.

The video is rough and heavily compressed. Audio is "eh." Audio in my old camera was bad too. I guess that's the nature of being an underwater camera. But why is the microphone on TOP of the camera when the lens is capturing something in FRONT of the camera.

Battery lasted one day of occasional shooting, with more photos on the beach, but maybe 50 70 shots (I shoot a lot in a row when the kids are doing something interesting) total before I had to recharge the wafer-thin little battery. I admit the camera is thin, easily pocketable. Convenient. But that extra thinness also made it a bit harder to grip while my hands were wet. I'd prefer something chunkier. Then it could have a bigger battery.

I tried to shoot a couple panoramas with the camera. It stitches and crops the image in the camera and, no matter what I did, the panos are very small. Maybe that's just how they arelower resolution than actual stills. A lot lower resolution. Plus, exposure changes throughout the shot made it look weird. But I was impressed at how well it handled houses that would be "bent" because of the wide angle curve of the lens. Sony's in-camera pano mode has fared worse in this regard, but Sony delivers higher resolution stills and the exposure is locked through the pano. Also, Sony reliably gave me a pano each time (even if the pano sucked). The Panny would error out about half the time because I was going too slow, too fast, whatever. I don't know. As I didn't buy this underwater camera for panos, I don't hold that against the score of the camera.

Lastly, there's two places you really expect to use an underwater camerathe pool & the beach. It was fine in the pool and the wrist lanyard was very good. But at the beach, when you get some sand on your hands because, well, it's THE BEACH... the sand gets under the shutter trigger and, again, I was missing photo opportunities because I couldn't press the damm shutter button. The video button still worked, but why would they not expect that SAND might be present at the most common areas on the planet where there's waterthe beach.

Some vigorous sloshing in the sea while pressing the shutter button worked the sand free and I was able to take more pictures.

Pros:

small, lightweight, thin

waterproof, submersible

shoots HD video, big stills

can force the flash, can compensate the exposure, set spot focus/exposure, manually set ISO

has some scene modes that help a little with dark shots

CONS:

high resolution is lost when you actually look at the stills

video is grainy

a little too thin for my hands

debris can get under the shutter button preventing you from taking a picture

sometimes focuses on... nothing

I really wasn't expecting DSLR-like quality, but I wanted better, and I wanted reliability, not missed shots. So I returned it.

I got this camera a few months ago after researching waterproof digital cameras and reviews extensively. The price has come down a bit from what I paid, but it was worth every penny. My camera has been in the water in San Diego, Cabo San Lucas, and Maui. It has survived in my boardshorts pocket while:

Surfing heard it knock against my board multiple times

body surfing

swimming in river

jumping off 20 ft waterfall

Have taken video underwater with good quality. This camera is great. Hopefully it will last longer than my previous waterproof cam that was by a different manufacturer, but I didn't properly care for that one. I've been more committed to using the suggested maintenance procedures when using this one, like soaking it in a bowl of water after having it in salt water and keeping the seal clean with the brush they provide. The pictures are sharp and defined high quality.

In 7 days in Cabo I didn't have to recharge the battery once. I expect this camera to last for years.

I bought this camera for my trip to the Bahamas, and I could not be happier with it. I wanted a camera that I could bring with me into the ocean and on the water riders to capture the memories. The camera lived up to its expectations. My underwater pictures and videos came out great. It was very durable and held up and I went on water slides and rapid rivers. The battery lasts long as well. I used the camera for 5 days straight and still have a charge. I would definitely recommend this camera for someone looking to bring the camera to a beach or water park!
